DR slingshot, the first thing I saw on TV this morning was a CBS This Morning clip on the liberation of Auschwitz 70 years ago.  I'm still teary about it.  I hope your concert goes well.

Tuesday morning greetings!  I have some follow-up to do after last night's AAUW board meeting and some Chicago prep, too.  If the weather cooperates, I'll go out to visit Mom this afternoon.

NIGHT WILL FALL was interesting and informative.  As always, the film taken by the British and American troops [and some Russian] was most difficult to watch.

A few minutes of color film was included.  The story of the abandoned documentary and the involvement of Alfred Hitchcock was very interesting.

IF you are a student of the era....you should watch the film.  We are getting to the point where there will be no more eyewitnesses to this history, so it is good that people are telling their experiences.

There was also more in this documentary about what happened to the people who survived the camps in the next few months that followed, that I am sad to say I never even really thought about....

Certainly more than worth seeing....and thinking about.

Today is the 130th birthday of Jerome Kern, who died far too young at the age of 60.

Take a moment and listen to one of his songs or scores today.

TOD: I remember one night back when I was in high school that it snowed 17 inches and I had to get out to deliver the newspaper. Well, in Louisville, that was enough snow to prevent the paper from getting to me until around 8 am. Paper was supposed to be delivered by 6 am. People called the house to complain and they didn't like being told that I couldnt deliver what I didn't have. I then had to trudge through the snow to deliver those papers.

School, of course, was canceled. So was the mail. But I had to deliver the afternoon paper, too.

The news coverage of the "blizzard" was an all time nadir if such a thing is possible.  The apology is, perhaps, a first?  The people who went crazy buying "emergency" supplies for what was supposed to last twenty-four hours tops, should be ashamed of themselves, but alas, they aren't.

Oh, I see, the person apologizing isn't from CBS - he's the man who predicted all this.  The news hasn't apologized for their usual end of the world predictions that cause all the panic in the first place.  "Blizzard of 2015" my butt cheeks.

I recall buying the last, or 2nd to last carton of milk before a storm.  What I purchased was usually just what I needed for the amount of time before I expected to get to the market again.  You didn't want to stock up too much on foods that would go bad if power was lost.  Of course, in that kind of cold the outdoors worked just fine as a frig, as long as you made sure to get the food back in the house before the temps warmed up.  Once we had ants.

Wait, only one person predicted the big storm?  I would expect multiple meteorologists did.

Take a moment and listen to one of his songs or scores today.

I just listened to three great Kern songs:
Cinderella Sue from BK's release of the "Centennial Summer" soundtrack
Long Ago and Far Away
Poor Pierrot
What hell rages in the heart none may know
For fickle Pierette has forgotten poor Pierrot.

It's overcast here in the bay area, no sign of rain but it's not as chilly as the last few weeks.  I'm going out for a quick bike ride soon, then I need to finish a song I'm writing for a musical that I'm suppose to be composing from someone's "poems" about JFK's presidency.  Don't get me started on my lyricist....

That's all I'll say about that...
