Title: BABYLON BABBLE ON
Post by: bk on May 12, 2015, 12:29:09 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes babbled on in Babylon, and now it is time for you to post until the babbling cows come home.

And now, I'm off to bed.  I can't miss this meeting.  It's about the library's health care and hopefully getting a service that still covers what people want, but costs less for everyone.

Have a good day, all!

Good morning, all!  Last night's remembered dream had something to do with a band rehearsal and a battle with a director over casting decisions. I recall very little now.

I will shortly head down to Toyland.  I want to send "From Atlanta To The Sea" to my co-editor today, and I have to redo several piano sections and scan all the music and fixes.

Yes it is crazy we have company.  When we moved moved here He, of the couple here, was just a young lad.  He and his family were our first guests.  We were still putting the house together and adding on to make room for the pool table.  Last night He and Keith played pool.

It seemed fitting to have a member of this family as our last company.  It also pushed me to get more accomplished sooner.  They will leave this morning shortly after I do.

I shall soon be on my way to my appt.  Thanks to all for the vibes....we shall see what we shall see.

There was a disappointing elimination on RuPaul's Drag Race last night.....although the contestant that stayed did do the best lip synch - he is such an unoriginal, argumentative, and dumb person, that I hate to see him around.  The eliminated contestant was creative and very funny.....but failed in the lip synch....  Sad....

TOD:

Right now I like the Captain America movies....and the Iron Man movies are okay.....

Back then, I kept hoping they would get Superman right, but the never did.  Krypton never looked like it did in the comic books.  Of course now everything in the comic books has changed, some people are dead, costumes are different.....so I am not much interested in Superman and his universe as it exists today.

I do NOT like Spiderman, X-Men, or Transformer movies.

I not a big fan of movies from superhero comic books, though I did think that the first IRON MAN with Robert Downey, Jr. was pretty good.

I did not like any of the BATMAN movies.  On the other hand, GOTHAM started our okay, but I tired of it about halfway through the season.

I really enjoyed the first three X-MEN movies; thought they were intelligently scripted and well done.

Well my massage therapy was a great success.  I no longer have the pain in my lower back/upper backside.......a bit of pain in the calf remains, but it doesn't inhibit me much.

Therapist said that I had a few small muscle tears and they would heal in two-four weeks, and just to be very careful lifting and carrying.....which I shall do.

But walking and standing is no longer impossible.....

I never read comic books. But I have liked all the Spiderman movies. I only just recently saw the newer "The Amazing Spiderman" on television and I liked it very much. I was surprised they made it though because the Toby McGuire movies were made just not that long ago. I swear, sometimes it seems like Hollywood just runs out of ideas so they have to remake old stuff that's not even that old. I liked the "Ironman" movies too. I also just recently saw "Captain America" and was surprised at how much I liked it. I've grown tired of the "Batman" movies and I can't stand Christopher Nolan as Batman. He's okay as Bruce Wayne, but he does weird things with his mouth in the Batman costume and we all know how important Batman's mouth is in that costume.

I don't care for the recent spate of comic books movies for one reason: too much CGI. Looks too fake and I'm sorry but even with all of the technical skill and the talented artists that work on these movies, still fake. Now, back in the days when artists painted mattes and models were used for trains rounding a mountain, those were all done to scale and in camera or in process, and while we can see some fakery in those shots, there were many, many more matte shots that go undetected by the audience. That's the mark of a skilled artist; that you don't notice that the artist was even there, and the eye accepts what it sees as natural.

Comic books brought to movies:

I haven't seen them in years, but the BLONDIE movies were always fun.
Cartoons were a natural next step for comic books, so I liked ARCHIE and the JUSTICE LEAGUE, AQUAMAN, GIGANTOR.
DICK TRACY has been enjoyable whether it was the 1940s serials, the 1960s cartoons or the Warren Beatty movie, even despite Madonna. I know there are a lot of fans out there, but watch the movie now and you will see how out of place she is. She does not have the timelessness of Elizabeth Taylor, etc.

I was never a fan of the George Reeves SUPERMAN. Don't know why, but I also never was a fan of the original KING KONG. I don't dislike them. They're just not something I go back to for entertainment. Maybe it's a generational thing.
The first two Christopher Reeve SUPERMANs were very good, if somewhat predictable. They are Chinese food movies. Great while they're on, leave you wanting more, and forgettable for a while after.
I am not a big fan of the BATMAN movies, but I have always loved the 1966-68 Adam West series plus the "feature". Yes, they were campy and full of day-glo colors, but they were fun and a great stopping off point for big stars of the Golden Age before they shuffled off for good altogether.

Most of the Charlie Brown/Peanuts feature films and TV shows were good, particularly the earlier ones. I always thought it daring for Schulz, Mendelson and Melendez to have jazz music on a kid's show and Rod McKuen on a kid's movie.

If you mean Christian Bale (and I'm sure that you do), I've never seen these movies, so I can't really comment on how he interprets the character.

I didn't know some of them were lost!

Seasons 1-5 have never been re-broadcast, re-run, or otherwise seen since their original airing.

Those must have been when Tim Conway was a guest star and not a regular cast member.

I know it has to be a great shock to mind and body, so just take yer damned time healing and getting over it.

This has obviously been one bizarre day all around.

I won't even bore you with my silly adventures.  But everyone's having them today, and in the scheme of things I escaped relatively unscathed, for which I am grateful.  But what a frickin' day.

The train was a regional Amtrack going from DC to New York.  Many of the news reporters are saying they use it often

Local news here in Tucson reported that a University of Arizona student who had volunteered to help the recovery efforts in Nepal is now missing after the latest earthquake. And, the U.S. Marine helicopter is missing there. Not sure if they can't communicate. Hope is that they are safe but out of reach.

As long as it's not a contract, then it's just a strange confluence due to Mercury retrograde, or the quincunx. ;)

Ah, Singdaw covertly wrote a review.

Format: Hardcover
Fans of Adriana will already want to read this book. And if you're not a fan, what are you waiting for? This unusual teen sleuth is back in an engaging investigation that starts with a bang and doesn't let go until the final pages. All your favorite characters are here, Weaving a light mix of suspense, humor, nostalgia, and cuisine, author Kimmel gets the balance just right in this fast-paced and entertaining spin. There are many reasons to read and enjoy this book, but this time there is one extra incentive, and I don't think it is giving too much away to say: BONUS RECIPES! You can enjoy this book as a standalone, but part of the fun comes from experiencing these characters' quirks as we've come to know them from all the previous installments. Highly recommended!
