Well, you've read the notes, the notes had both egg and eggplant on them, and now it is time for you to post until the egg on an eggplant eating cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: INCULCATE!
-
First after BK? At 7:45 eastern time?
-
Thanks for the good wishes yesterday, Jane!
-
I pretty much agree with BK's assessment of KIDNAPPING MR. HEINEKEN.
It's nothing great, but an okay way to pass the time.
-
Good morning, all! I am up and moving about with very little to report so dar.
I need coffee.
-
TOD: Lima Beans, Spinach
-
GOOD MORNING TO ALL
-
Sad day.
One of the great character actors of all time Christopher Lee has passed away.
-
Many thanks to Jeanne, as well.
-
The great Ron Moody has also died.
-
And the word of the day is: INCULCATE!
And The Song Of The Day Is: TEACH ME TONIGHT
-
Sad day.
One of the great character actors of all time Christopher Lee has passed away.
He was my publicity client when he lived in Los Angeles during the mid-1970s.
:(
-
Ron Moody (OLIVER!) has also passed away.
-
Good morning, all.
-
That's two bits of sad news to wake up to.
-
TOD:
I love broccoli, cauliflower and zucchini all stir-fried together - maybe in some butter and salt and pepper and a little garlic. I only like onions if they're very well cooked while raw onions have a texture I despise. I HATE HATE HATE beans and peas. And when I say, "beans" that doesn't include string beans, which are wonderful. I'm talking about black beans, navy beans, kidney beans, refried beans, etc. etc. They really do make me want to vomit on the ground, mostly because of the texture. I can only tolerate lentils because they're so small, but I don't particularly like them either. I love all the little vegetables you tend to get in Chinese food like watercress, mushrooms, bean sprouts, peapods, and those little mini corns-on-the-cob. Unfortunately, Mark hates all those vegetables, so we always have to ask the waiter to remove them from everything. I've had a couple of eggplant dishes I enjoyed but only because it's usually drowning in butter and garlic or melted cheese.
-
I like corn....served just about any way.....corn on the cob is messy to eat, but it is a fine summertime treat.
I like to fry some corn with green peppers (not the spicy kind)....it is a nice side dish.
Other than that you can take vegetables and eat them yourself.

Thanks for all the comments on the story of my uncle George. I was still thinking about it after I wrote it, so my sister and I got out our picture books.
He and Jim were NOT identical twins, George was quite a bit taller. We have a few pictures of him. He liked to dress up and wear what I guess we could call a golfer's hat.
There were also a few pictures of his girl friend.....they never got as far as engagement..... Her name is Opal, and she is a pretty girl.
I asked my Dad about the the day he died. My dad was 9 years old. He said that the man from the sawmill came to their house and got Grandma and took her to the hospital where they had taken George. He lived for a few hours after the accident, but never spoke.
They had the funeral in their home where the casket was for a day or two....and he was buried in the IOOF cemetery where Grandma is buried.
Uncle Jim married a wealthy woman (our Aunt Mary who is still living and is a hard-working great lady) and had three kids....but he was always a bit sad and drank quite a bit.
-
Thursday morning greetings! Today I must pick up some flowers and go to the hospital to visit our AAUW treasurer who fell yesterday and broke several bones. Vibes for Karen would be appreciated...
-
DR JRand, I missed commenting on your story yesterday. Such a tragedy...
-
Oh my. VIBES for Karen!
-
DR Jrand thank you for more details on your family stort. I wondered how your uncle coped with the loss of his twin and the how of that loss.
-
Vibes for Karen.

We have a long, beautiful walking path along the water. We know people who also bike it. Keith would like to get a bike and othets have suggested it. I would love to do also get one but am too afraid of sometghing happening that would cause me to fall off. The path is concrete.

Thanks, DRs ChasSmith and Jane!

What a harrowing and sad story, DR Jrand64. I can't even imagine.
Thanks for posting the family photos.
-
CONGRATULATIONS to the accomplished cousin of DR FJL!!!!!
How nice that you were there to support and celebrate her!
-
I am at one of the public libraries today.
No customers at the moment.
-
I am here for 7 hours. This morning I put out a water bottle to bring with me, but it seems to have been misplaced somewhere along the way.
I did remember my lunch, though, thank goodness!

~ ~ ~ MENDING VIBES ~ ~ ~ for Karen, the DF of DR Ginny...
Thanks, DR Singdaw! Enjoy your day at the public library.
-
Good morning. I did some much-needed yardwork this morning.
-
I'm on a roll: I just had inquiry about availability for orchestrating part of a December NY Philharmonic holiday concert, and i have a small recording job in October.
No word yet on the job i said yes to,. but the new moon begins today, so . . .
I hope this all means the slump is over.
-
Great news, Elmore!
-
Happy for you, DR elmore3003.
-
I hope it's a buttered roll.
-
Or a hot-cross bun.
-
Roll, roll, roll in the hay!
-
thanks DR SINGDAW.

DR ELMORE the Mercury retrograde ends today....so we can all breathe a sigh of relief.
Nice review that MR BK posted last night.
-

As long as you are comfortable riding a bike i would not be concerned about falling off. I have never fallen off mine, although I do have to keep an eye out around the lake for branches or rocks. You could always get one of those adult three wheelers if you are worried about having an accident.
-
TOD: I love tomatoes (which i consider a vegetable :) ), avocado. The ones i eat the most are lettuce, cucumbers and broccoli.
-
Yes, DR Jrand, your family story is sad and yet is part of your family's history, reminiscent of a time that seems so far away.
-
I am in mourning over the death of Sir Christopher Lee, one of my all-time favorites. My friends knowing my affection for him, and having seen him play Count Dooku in the otherwise execrable first two STAR WARS prequels (to bookend his Hammer horror colleague Peter Cushing's appearance in Part IV, known as the original Star Wars), nicknamed me Dooku, or as it's sometimes spelled Dukoo. So, that's one of many nicknames that have stuck to me over the years.
Here's the great Lee singing operatically, as an homage of sorts to his Italian mother (she was a countess):

-
I am sure no one has seen this weird Australian film, CAPTAIN INVINCIBLE, that starred Alan Arkin (great in a bad movie) and Christopher Lee (as the bad guy, of course). It's a musical, and Arkin and Lee sing a duet (sort of):
https://youtu.be/fh_pCaOupSs

More singing from Christopher Lee from the cult classic (?) CAPTAIN INVINCIBLE:

-
Yes, Christopher Lee did enjoy expressing himself vocally:
https://youtu.be/y6JaM4kXtgU
-
The late great Ron Moody singing for the second time, Reviewing the Situation in OLIVER!, this time as a denouement. He effectively changes the mood of the song, leaving things in a kind of hopeful way:

Vegetables I do not like and that do not like me:
Raw onion (cooked okay)
Wax beans (just the name alone)
Rhubarb (passable in a pie drowned with sugar and strawberries)
Lima beans (they look like kidneys, not really an organ meat a/k/a variety meat fan)
Kale
Rutabaga
Escarole (not the Good Times co-star)
I'm sure I'm leaving (not a pun) something out.

Christopher Lee is the King on this complete recording. It could have been so much better since the cast and conductor are good, but i find it just a bit tepid. In its defense, I thought the Tony clip of the new production, which didn't impress me, makes this recording look even better.

Vegetables I have grown (older) to love:
Eggplant (in parmigiana or baba ganoush or moussaka)
Spinach
Brussels sprouts (basically little cabbages, although I'm not a fan of full-sized cabbage)
Most lettuces
Bok choy
Napa cabbage
Carrots
Potatoes
Tomatoes
Broccoli
Anasazi beans
Indian beans
Olives (prefer green with the pimento)
Bell peppers (other than green, that's the most difficult to digest)
Corn (in small amounts since most gluten-free stuff has varying amounts of corn, so I don't want to overdo corn; my Native-American friends advise not to eat too much corn as most of it is GMO and its high sugar content can lead to dental problems)
Beets
Chives
Onions (cooked)
Shallots
Okra (not that great to look at, but I've grown to appreciate it)
Celery
Parsley/cilantro/any of that frizzy stuff that winds up as "garnish" (it all is very high in Vitamin C)
I'm sure I've forgotten some things I like. But I like a lot more vegetables now than I did as a kid. I appreciate the nourishment vegetables provide, providing they have not been genetically modified. GMO vegetables literally have no taste.

Thank you DR elmore! I will try to obtain a copy sometime soon after my surgery next week.

I forgot that Christopher Lee is Sitting Bull on the TER complete recording of the 1966 Lincoln Center revisal of ANNIE GET YOUR GUN. I like this recording quite a bit, but i think Barry Bostwick is a poor choice for Frank.

Thanks! It's one of my favorite musicals.
I always regret that I could not make it to see Christopher Lee when his book was released and he made a book signing appearance at the Barnes & Noble @ Union Square (which was one of my hangouts).

Thank God the mercury retrograde is over! I think my surgery will be during a clear period.

Not Kritzerland, but another soundtrack label vastly overuses exclamation points in their CD release blurbs. This is not a criticism of the actual CDs, but an observation of punctuation abuse. A clew: rhymes with the movement Picasso was a part of prior to Cubism. Another: somewhat reminiscent of the one and only Iron Butterfly song.

Back from delivering a lovely bouquet of daisies in a bubble bowl to Karen and getting the full story of her mishap. She was walking to her car outside her new apartment with her arms full and fell against the headlight of her car. That shattered her left knee and, when she tried to get up, she fell again and broke her right arm. She had surgery on both last night and is looking at 6 weeks recovery, at least.
She's left-handed, which is about the only bright spot in an otherwise pretty grim situation.

Had a fun early lunch with fun folks at the House of Pies.

...and I think I chipped the back of my temporary crown :P

fun folks at the House of Pies.
I tried to make a joke here about Fun Home, but it didn't quite come together. In a way that made any sense. :P
-
I hope you didn't, DR Ginny. But if you did - well, it's temporary. :)
-
Yeah, there's that, DR Singdaw. I'll call the dentist's office first thing tomorrow, but there's probably not much they can do about it. Fortunately, it doesn't hurt - yet.
-
In case anyone's wondering, here is what daisies look like in a bubble bowl. Someone sent me some when I was hospitalized with a blood clot 7 years ago and I remembered how cheerful they looked up on the shelf. Karen's do, too!

Wow! All three lived pretty full lives: Moody, 91; Lee, 93; and, Coleman, 85. They've all left some great legacies and memories.

DR George, thanks for the vibes for Karen!
-
Good Lord, the things still going on here. Vibes to everyone!
Me, I'm about to leave for a dress rehearsal of an outdoor venue ONCE UPON A MATTRESS. Sitting in on this one, then attending a performance next week.
(They had asked me to piano/conduct, but I just needed some time out.)

Recovery vibes for Karen!

Thank you, singdaw!!! It was a lovely, memorable day and evening.

Thanks, DR FJL!

Well, time for me to leave work. Theater Artists Olympia is having our $5 Preview for our latest production, Tartuffe (http://taotartuffe.bpt.me/)! I'm not directly involved, but I'll be house manager tonight (basically, selling tickets and concessions) and a couple of other nights. I don't really know anything about the show, other than it's completely rhymed. I'm sure it'll be good!
Be back later!
-
Oh my DR GINNY how terrible. Recovery vibes for Karen.
-
Oh, poor Karen! I hope she mends quickly and uneventfully.
-
DR George, thanks for the vibes for Karen!
Vibes for Karen and for you. I dislike dental problems the worst, even considering everything I've been through from lymphoma.
-
Thank you, DRs JRand and Laura.

Thank you, DR Dan M. Compared to what Karen's going through, my problem is minor. But annoying...

Good evening. Vibes to all who need them

Well, it's been an eventful week. I got a bat proofer to seal the house and find out where the bats were coming in. He found a place right near my bedroom window, he put in the one way door they use (bats can get out but not back) and said he'd seal it up in a month when he was sure they were all gone.
-
I started thinking about the fact that the trim around my bedroom floor wasn't complete. Prior owners had taken out the quarter round when they installed carpet and I hadn't replaced it (on the to do list for years). So I took off yesterday afternoon, went to home depot, got all the stuff I needed and put down about 52 feel of quarter round.
-
As I was doing that, Ricky was very curious about a spot on the back of my mattress and it reminded me that I had stuck my had under my pillow in that area either Friday or Saturday and thought I scratched my hand on something. I was going to look later to see what it was. I had some marks on my finger where I thought I scratched it
-
When I got done working I relaxed awhile and then started looking for photos of bat bites. The first one that came up looked exactly like my finger. CRAP! So about 11:00 pm I called the free nurse at a local hospital and she told me to go to the Emergency room immediately and not wait until morning, that I had already waited longer than I should have
-
So at 11:45 PM I went to the emergency room. They said it looked like a bite. I had to meet with an agent from Animal Control. He said "looks like a bat bit to me". We discussed the situation and I learned they would come out in the middle of the night to get a bat. Who knew? Since I didn't keep the bat, we had to assume it was rabid. That meant I have to have all the rabies shots
-
I was at the ER until about 3:00 AM. I got a number of shots and have three more to go.
-
Today I called the vet and she said even though the cats were current on their shots, they needed a booster, so I herded them together and they have been boosted. There is often a quarantine requirement for animals, but since mine are inside cats and I'm the only one around them, I just have to keep an eye on them. I'm not too concerned about that
-
What an ordeal, DR Cillaliz!
-
I haven't had a decent night's sleep since Friday. I was planning to work at home so I could watch the cats in case they reacted to their shots. I came home, laid down for a minute and woke up 5 hours later. Boy did I need that
-
Now I just pray my insurance company covers this. It's very expensive, but if you get rabies you die. So, there really isn't a choice.
-
What an ordeal, DR Cillaliz!
I guess it has been. I was a basket case for a few days. Getting the quarter round down and therefore sealing the bedroom much better was a huge relief. After that, the cats quit acting weird and seemed to relax, although they were pretty wound up when I got home at 3:00 AM. I had a nagging feeling that has gone away since getting the medical treatment started.
-
I'm glad you thought to look up bat bites, Cillaliz. Hopefully the bat wasn't sick and you'd be fine anyway.
-
Well, it doesn't matter now if it was sick or not, with the shots I won't get rabies.
-
The had to give me a shot in my finger near the bite. That hurt more than anything
-
I was just reading up on rabies on Wikipedia. You have 100% chance of survival.
-
I'm glad they had all the stuff available.
-
I was just reading up on rabies on Wikipedia. You have 100% chance of survival.
Yup. Get rabies = die. Get shots = no rabies. There was no decision to make
-
I'm glad they had all the stuff available.
It took them awhile since it was the middle of the night. Luckily one of the doctors at the ER had given the shots to a man recently when he reached up into an area in his attic and was bitten.
-

Happy things resolved for you and that you'll be okay. But, bats are rats with wings. Yecch. They're always flying around here at night, which is okay since they eat many of the pests like mosquitos and gnats, but to have them inside is another thing. I had to catch one once in college. It had gotten into one of the halls, and I had to keep it from getting into the music library. Many students and workers fled the library in fear. Like some kind of monster movie.
-

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is crazy.
-
I like bats, but we don't have a problem with them out here. It is a treat to get to see one at all.
-
Page four? Really?
-
We have lots of bats here, but they usually don't get into the living spaces of houses this early in the season. The animal control officer told me he's been getting about 2 calls a night to get bats from houses.

Greetings from Maui.

That is just outrageous, Cillaliz. Glad you're OK.

TOD: I love almost all vegetables as long as they are prepared right. I prefer raw best of all because of the freshness of the flavors.
I'm not big on rutabagas, but I've had them made with plenty of butter and cream -- and that seemed to do magic.

Hi DR John G. from landlocked Tucson! I was listening to some ethnographic recordings that were transferred from old 78s to CD, and one was a recording from Hawai'i made in the Teens or Twenties. I think it was its own country then, or maybe a protectorate. But certainly exotic. Have a great time!
-
Thanks John G, hope you're having a great time

We have a long, beautiful walking path along the water. We know people who also bike it. Keith would like to get a bike and othets have suggested it. I would love to do also get one but am too afraid of sometghing happening that would cause me to fall off. The path is concrete.
As long as you are comfortable riding a bike i would not be concerned about falling off. I have never fallen off mine, although I do have to keep an eye out around the lake for branches or rocks. You could always get one of those adult three wheelers if you are worried about having an accident.
I am more worried about being knocked off my a dog or person.

DR Dan I have osteoporosis and have not forgotten the pain from when the dog knocked me down and broke my shoulder in 4 places. It is hard to forget when the pain never really goes away, just has good days.

I like watching bats fly around but would not like one close enough to bite me. I'm glad you also thought to call the vet.
I've been reading a lot online about rabies over the past week, as you can imagine. I saw something about pets getting a booster so I called the vet. Glad I did

That is understandable. I've always feared falling on ice from all the times in the past that I did, so I can empathize.

I have done that too many times. Now that I have concetns I am extra careful. Keith also watches out for me if it is icy out.

Finished with my viewing.

It was much cooler today in Tacoma. 75 degrees. Hopefully our dry weather will last another week for the U.S. Open.

Vibes to all in need. That includes all Dittos.

Aloha, John.

I gotta tell you.

I really had no idea what "Tartuffe" was about before seeing the show tonight.
-
And what a delightfully delightful show it was!
-
All the actors were very good in their respective roles...and all that rhyming!
-
Their script (adaptation is credited to "The TAO Collective") was easy to follow and quite funny.
-
And since we're so close...

;)

And speaking of "The TAO Collective," that's who's credited for writing our version of "The HEAD! That Wouldn't DIE!" and its upcoming revisal.
-
What an ordeal, DR Cillaliz!
Agreed!
-
I was just reading up on rabies on Wikipedia. You have 100% chance of survival.
Yup. Get rabies = die. Get shots = no rabies. There was no decision to make
The Miracle of Modern Medicine.

On Sunday, it's supposed to get up into the low 80s, at least here in Tumwater...with a very low chance of rain.
:P
-
Now I just pray my insurance company covers this. It's very expensive, but if you get rabies you die. So, there really isn't a choice.
Cillaliz, do you mind if I ask how much it cost? :-\

And speaking of "Tartuffe" (I was, wasn't I? ;) ), the costumes were exquisite! The costumer, Sunny Jim (it's her FB nom de plume...actually, she prefers to go by Jim), made some detailed and beautiful pieces. The colors were bright and vivid, and they were all designed and built specifically for the women in the cast.
-
The men's costumes were for the most part regular shirts and jackets and pants, but painted and decorated very specifically. Overall, some of the best costumes that I've seen in a long time.
