Title: HERE COMES JULY AND FIREWORKS AND JOY AND CELEBRATION OH MY

Well, you've read the notes, the notes had fireworks and joy and celebration, and now it is time for you to post until the celebratory cows come home.

First!

Good morning, all.

From one who is not really up.  Just been listening to the most incredible rain and thunder ever.  And I mean EVER.  On the radar we were in the red.

Seems to have passed.  Probably on its way to Boston or out to the ships at sea.

Okay, that's all for now.

A little more sleep, hopefully.

I don't think I had ever heard that story about the original print of The Creature. Or if I had, I had forgotten.

Tarnation!        :P

Indeed, that was some loud thunderstorm at 4 a.m. or so.

Sounded like someone was practicing for Saturday's fireworks.

We had a huge thunderstorm yesterday at work. It rained like crazy, prompting flash flood warnings. As I drove home after the rain, water was high in the culverts and moving at a violent pace.

By the time I got home, I discovered that my neighborhood had a sprinkling and little else.

Guess I'll be watering today.

And I got two more hours of sleep after that.  With two of the craziest, most intense, wacky dreams ever.

Had some windows open, and was really lucky it wasn't blowing in.  Some wet window sills, is all.  But the sound of that rain is so gorgeous and the air so delicious that you don't WANT to close the windows more than necessary.  A truly incredible storm, that was.

Tomorrow. my beloved goddaughter Charlotte and I will see Jurassic World in 3-D.  When I paid for the tickets, I nearly dropped dead: $45.00 for two - one of them a senior citizen ticket! - to see a silly 3-D moving picture.

Ridiculous.

I woke up at 5:30 and Keith was already up.  I had better do the same and help unpack.  Yesterday I did 3 large wardrobe boxes and a couple of bedding ones.  We needed the bedding and linens.  I bet the coffee maker is out, if only we had coffee for Keith.  Fortunately the coffee shop we love is close by.

Does the book mention the McNay Museum here in San Antonio? It has a collection of Eckart designs. They even staged a revue if songs from musicals that the couple worked on. Sadly, the organizers were too enamored of Maggie Flynn.

It lists the sources for all materials, so I'm sure it does. The book is now out of print so I'm glad I purchased it new.

I think the Packard Appreciation Wall at the Aquarium is for

The David and Lucile Packard Foundation (http://www.packard.org/)

which is different from the

Packard Humanities Institute (http://www.packhum.org/)

The Packard Foundation is a very big and long time supporter of the Aquarium.

Monterey Bay Aquarium (http://www.packard.org/what-we-fund/institutional-support/monterey-bay-aquarium/)

The Packard Humanities Institute (PHI) doesn't give grants to organizations such as the Aquarium. It's an "operating foundation" a distinction not easy to define to the layman but essentially it means that Operating Foundations choose what they do and are most often "non-grantmaking" organizations. PHI focuses on archaeology, music, film preservation, historic conservation, and early education. The work Larry has done for them is not "grant" related. It's one of their many projects over the years. If they choose to make a grant it will be to a "pre-selected" organization. They do not solicit grant proposals or applications.

It's an odd day.

First day of the new Fiscal Year.

I have added money to all our monthly purchase orders.

I have created a contract and requisitioned a purchase order against it for furniture.

Against that same contract, I have requisitioned a purchase order for labor to install the furniture.

Different purchase orders coming out of different departments all because of the cost of the labor.  Anything over $25,000 in labor costs has to be approved by our Board of Supervisors and the purchase order must be issued by the Auditor-Controller's office.

Isn't my work simply fascinating?

It was interesting. And, they fed us lunch!

AND, a group performed authentic Native American songs for us!

1. I was stung by a wasp below the collarbone; said wasp then flew down my shirt.

2. We had a speaker from Africa, and I couldn't understand a word he said. He spoke English real purdy, though.

3. I am glad I was not the one who cleaned out the cupboard, which made one of the church members angry when she discovered some of her 874,372 plastic utensils were tossed.

A Question for BK:

In your notes today (and previously), you use the term "put-together," where two or more songs are "put together" to make one longer piece.  I'm curious.  Is that actually different than a "medley," or are they essentially the same thing and you just like to use that term?

:)

Put-together is kind of my term (I'm sure others will use it now) - to me, medley is something where more than two songs are involved.  I suppose two songs can be a medley, but I just prefer put-together because I always do try to put together songs that belong together either musically or lyrically.

Ages ago, when I lived in upstate New York, I was driving home from work one day when a wasp flew into the car and up my pants leg. It did sting me. Hurt like the Dickens.

My dad said to moisten some tobacco and place it over the sting. The tobacco would draw out the poison, he said. I don't know if that's entirely what it did, but it was awfully less painful in a few minutes' time.

Pays to have a dad who has chewed tobacco, I guess.

I've never been stung by a wasp, but I got a bee sting on my foot quite a few years ago at a friends house, and after they got the stinger out (evidently, the area had a lot of bees and they had a lot of experience removing stingers), they put some toothpaste on it.  I really don't remember if it helped or not, but I think it probably did.

I did watch the pilot episode of GRACE & FRANKIE.i may watch more dpisodes.

I still haven't taken the time to watch that, but I will...eventually.
Just to watch Martin sheen and Sam Waterston as lovers is fun.

I know!  Even the show is mainly about the women, I want to see for the men's story line, also.
