Good morning.
I will listen to a McGlinn recording in his memory today, Elmore.
Bourbon cocktail notes are always welcome.
Home from Columbia and the market. The laundry is in the washers and I need a nap.
Ninety years ago today, Richard Rodgers' first Broadway success, Dearest Enemy, opened at the Knickerbocker Theatre.
We had our best show for what was probably our best audience last night....funny how that works. Two more to go, and then the 54th season is OVER.
Isobel Lennart wrote the original script for the 1964 musical that has a score by Jule Styne and Bob Merrill. Chocolate Factory artistic director David Babani told the Daily Mail (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-3239080/BAZ-BAMIGBOYE-Nicole-Kidman-got-hit-film-DNA.html#ixzz3m2h3NNG8) that Fierstein has been tasked with "revising the shows book and making it acceptable for an audience today."
The show, about American comedienne Fanny Brice, made Barbra Streisand a star on Broadway in 1964. But its rarely produced, for two reasons.
First, there are few actresses with the acting and vocal powers to portray Brice.
Second, the shows book has always been problematic.
Streisand had considerable influence over the creative team and, as a result, the second act is more like a Fanny Brice concert than a show with a story.
This problem is about to be solved. Harvey Fierstein, who wrote the script for new hit Kinky Boots, has been contracted to revise Funny Girl for the forthcoming production at the Menier Chocolate Factory.
David Babani, the Chocolate Factorys artistic chief, confirmed: Harvey Fierstein will be looking at revising the shows book and making it acceptable for an audience today.

I listened to Annie Get Your Gun while driving this morning. Wae-Ling had put it in the CD player -- it is one of her favorites.

Which version? Doris Day? Mary Martin? Kim Criswell? Betty Hutton? Suzie Quattro?
Kim Criswell. That's the McGlinn version.
Kim Criswell. That's the McGlinn version.
I have this, also. Right now, I'm listening to "Songs of New York" which has a few songs by Kim Criswell (I love her!) and orchestrations by our very own Elmore!
Off in a few minutes to the penultimate performance of THE GAME'S AFOOT.

What is in Lumberton, NC?Lumberton is about halfway between home and Kissimmee We discovered a Country inn and a Suite sheer a few years ago that is clean, roomy, right off the highway and serves a free breakfast buffet and if booked in advance we get an extremely economical rate
Vixmom -- turn off your phone! You don't want the boss to call and order you back to work.
We passed the road works guys getting ready to shut down the left lane just in time for rush hour and so missed the inevitable miles long traffic back up

Good morning, all.
I survived my trip to nine bars over 8 1/2 hours to taste nine barrel-aged bourbon cocktails. It was tough work.
Holy crap! I have been notified by my HMO that my Medicare premiums are going up $73 next year. At this rate in another two years I will be paying what I paid monthly for health insurance before i turned 65. On a relatively fixed income i cannot afford this and it's disturbing.

Have you looked into a Medicare Advantage program? I pay nothing per month over the $104.90. It includes much of what one would normally obtain from a Medicare supplement plan. Some friends have Secure Horizons and are very happy with it. My plan, SCAN, is a tad cheaper, but only available in California and Arizona.
DR Jeanne, how's the healing coming along?
Vixmom, did you ever consider staying at "South of the Border"?
(For those who don't know, that's a very deliberately kitschy "tourist trap" attraction that I, for one, find fascinating and entertaining. But I've never done more than stop and look around.)

I had stayed with my HMO because i wanted to keep my doctor, but I may have to reconsider options. I was paying $150/month when I signed up and it's doubled in three years.
I shall now be on my way to the theater - please send most excellent vibes and xylophones for a decent-sized audience.

I settled on Chinese and ordered the wrong tofu dish.
Damn.

And how was your workday today? ;-)
I swear, I do believe Donald Trump and the bigoted fundamentalist Christian idiots following him are the new Nazi party. I always thought he was a vulgar, crass putz but now he and his thugs are beginning to terrify me.
Welcome to Berlin.
Travel vibes to DRs Jane and Vixmom and their traveling companions!

She of the Evil Eye has come and gone. I had some bacon and eggs.
The travel vibes were a splendid success, thank you all!
Congratulations to Elmore on the glorious write up
Congratulations to Tom on the call back ! Break a leg vibes for the callback audition
