Post by: bk on September 24, 2015, 12:21:05 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes did the hoochie coochie and wore a fez, and now it is time for you to post until the hoochie coochie cows come home.

I have a fez.

You read that right.  I, DR ChasSmith, have a fez.

It was purchased back in aught five at the Morocco pavilion in Disney World's Epcot.

Now, let me also tell you that having a fez and wearing a fez are two different things.  But I'm fairly certain I've set my own trap here and shall now have to produce some photographic evidence.  So, we shall see.

Good morning, all! The Upper West Side this morning is as quiet as it is after a heavy snow, so I slept in. I needed it.  I will finish up at Columbia tomorrow.  I may walk down to Staples and photocopy some of these band parts for the October recording, but I'll mostly work around the apartment.

I like all of the versions of the swing.....and I liked the twist and the stroll....

All of those crazy dances like the pony and the jerk, etc.

Disco dancing was most entertaining.

Here's some faux disco from So You Think You Can Dance.

TOD:

I'm embarrassed to admit it, but I am a product of the disco era. There, I said it. Now that means I also have to confess to doing The Hussle more than once. I've also done The Hora more than once, and many other Israeli line dances as I used to take Israeli dance classes. I remember doing the Hokie Pokie at an ice skating rink. Putting your left foot in and your left foot out while on ice skates was somewhat challenging, but I don't think I ever fell down, even once. I'm too young to have done 50s dances like The Mashed Potato or the The Twist. It's too bad because I think those would have been more fun than The Hussle.

There are probably some tongues wagging in our dentist's, insurance agents's, and optometrist's offices because he called and gave them our cell numbers.  We have different area codes and it sounds like I've picked up and moved to Dayton!

The first recognizable dance I ever did was The Bunny Hop!

Before that early 1950s craze, I'm sure I danced around a lot...the "gotta-go hoochie coochie" was probably my most oft-repeated dance.

Nowadays, I do a "gotta-go gotta-go gotta-go right now Hoochie Coochie".  Thankfully, it's not all that often, but it's what can make me dance a bit.

I never think of Mr. LaChiusa, Mr. Larsen, Mr. Brown or Ms. Tesori.  Sondheim, Herman and Yeston, sure.  Ahrens and Flaherty and Coleman as someone already suggested, sure.  To that, like him or not, one would obviously have to add Andrew Lloyd Webber.  And for that matter, Jule Styne still had one up his sleeve in the last thirty years.

Back from what will be our last pick-up rehearsal.  I finessed a couple of moments, tried out one new line, which I know would get a laugh at the top of the show, but Sami just is not going to be able to be comfortable trying it because she's connected the original lines there and this one breaks up the rhythm of line pre and post the new one.  So, maybe we'll throw it in sometime during the final weekend.

Late night snack report:

Utz Multigrain Tortillas [sic] [i.e., not Tortilla CHIPS, even though that's what they are].

DELICIOUS.  If you like tortilla chips in general, and if you like the taste of flax seed which is prominent in these.  I happen to have grown to like it.

Oh my goodness.  They contain QUINOA.

Flax seeds, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, KEEN-WAH, corn (of course), and brown rice.

And they're (get ready for it) gluten free!  :)   Just noticed that.  I didn't buy them for that reason.  But they're very tasty.

I'll keep my AT&T (now Frontier, whoever in the HELL they are) landline until they pry it from my cold dead (etc.) even though I have an internet phone line on my Comcast modem/router.

As I said to the nice lady in Arizona yesterday as we were troubleshooting my problems:  "No, nice lady in Arizona, the number you can call me back on if we get disconnected is a traditional AT&T landline, so you needn't worry about disconnecting me when you try jump-starting this modem again.  And might I add, I wouldn't exactly be talking to you and getting help right now if my main line was the internet one, now, would I?  Eh?  Would I now?  Would I?"

(Insert "Would I?" joke here.)

(Of course I also explained that cell reception here at the house is only fair to middling, another perfect reason for keeping the buried phone lines God gave us.)

The reason I know about the new "queue" is that we were there in the middle of winter and it was freezing that night and though the Peter Pan ride is lovely and we've ridden it many times, it was heavenly to go through the new indoor "queue" just to be out of the cold air for a while.

We had one in Ashland.  Keith thinks I would also need an external one for the computer.  The wfi didn't even work well sitting next to his computer.  He finally plugged it into his computer in order to dowload windows 10, which he read on the internet helps.

We saw former DR Jason briefly he was working and conditions were not conducive for picture taking

I'm glad you had a little time to see him.

What is Windows 10?  I have a vague memory of Windows - it gives me the Willies just thinking about it.

The entire first half hour of the late-night local news was taken up by the bus crash.  It was a terrible accident, but there is other news going on in the world.

I don't really like the keyboard on my laptop & if I use a good keyboard the screen is farther away and a bit small to see.  We purshased, as the price was excellent, a monitor with a built in computer that includes a keyboard & mouse.  It seems like a nice size for me.  I am still waiting for Keith to set it up for me to try.  There is one major problem and I might have to return it.  The wifi is rather bad.  Unless Keith can boost the strength is will not be worth the great price.

Jane, you can easily get a wi-fi hub (or whatever it's actally called) and boost the signal to other parts of your house.  I know several people who have them and say they work very well.  I would assume that some are better than others, but I'm sure that Keith can find a good one.

We had one in Ashland.  Keith thinks I would also need an external one for the computer.  The wfi didn't even work well sitting next to his computer.  He finally plugged it into his computer in order to dowload windows 10, which he read on the internet helps.

Interesting.  Good luck!

We're heading toward the ending.  The run wasn't without it's problems, but it's fairly solid...just a few lines here and there need to be set more securely.
