My doctor did not want to refill my muscle relaxer nor my Tylenol with codeine and recommended Tylenol PM if I had trouble with sleep.  Well, I took the damned tablet around 8:00 and at 12:30 I was still awake, wondering why.  I am not happy at this moment. since I feel drugged.

This seems like a long time to feel drugged when it didn't put you to sleep.  Have you taken Benadryl before and does it normally react like this?

I finished the arrangment I needed to adjust for my publisher and I listened to the new recording of Tales of Tinseltown.  I worked on trhe 1985 showcase, got dropped when t went to the George Street Theatre later, then did it in San Diego for the Gaslamp Quarter Theatre, and then turned it down when I was caught up in the Houston Grand Opera production of Babes in Toyland.

I was asked to work on this reording, but it was during the height - or depths - last year of my lousy health when I also turned down BK's Li'l Abner. Some of the recording cast sates back to 1985, and I miss Jason Graae on the recording.

I don't know if anyone's interested, but I found this 2012 BBC Proms broadcast of "The Lusty Month of May," conducted by John Wilson, and it's the complete Broadway number, including all of Trude Rittman's dance arrangement, which I heard when I saw the show around 1962, but which I never thought I'd ever hear again.

I asked Trude why the dance music had so many meter changes - 2/2, 6/4, 2/2. 3/4 - and she told me: choreographer Hanya Holm could never count.

I have a question for our resident HHW tax expert, DR FJL:

Typically, the IRS (or state taxation agency) reviews my tax return when I first submit it and will sometimes send me a letter regarding an adjustment. I was told by a friend that if they review it later, perhaps a year or two later, that they can only do that once, ie, they can't keep coming back and saying you owe more money and more money. Even if they missed something.

Can you confirm this?

Thanks!

I don't really know.  I just try to keep track of the number of green lights on the dial.  When they start to go out, I know I need to start heading back to my charger.

It was a beautiful sunny day.  Apparently the first really nice day of the season.

Good timing :)

Sunday afternoon greetings!  Richard and I went to a church he likes in downtown Dayton, followed by coffee at Starbucks and lunch at First Watch.  I'm home, have changed my clothes, and I'm trying to talk myself into visiting Mom.

I remember when you used to enjoy spending time with your mother :(

So do I, DR Jane, so do I...

Thank you, DR Elmore - that's exactly what I needed after visiting Mom.  It's so depressing...

Thanks!

I'll send you a PM based on what I've seen.

In Germany, I didn't want to presume that everyone spoke English so I usually asked.  There were a couple of people who only spoke a little and a woman at the bus stop who didn't speak it at all.  Everyone else seemed fairly fluent.

When we began walking this morning, around 10:45, wearing shorts and a t-shirt we were a bit chilly.  Four hours later when we returned we were very warm and the day was perfect.

We didn't walk as fast as usual and made a few stops, including the farmer's market in town.  I think we walked about 8 or 9 miles.

We sampled a variety of butters, such as pumpkin and cashew, leaving me with a bad taste in my mouth.  While Keith was buying the challah he likes I decided to try one of their scones to get rid of the bad taste.  The scone wasn't very good and didn't help so I stopped and got some fresh friend potato chips I've been wanting to try.

Bruce, Jeanne, did you ever eat the BEST EVER fresh potato chips ever at the Santa Monica Pier?  These were ok but not worth buying again.

I then had to go to Subway to get a drink since I was very thirsty.  We sat on the lawn in the downtown park and enjoyed the magnificent old trees.

Well, I just received a phone call that I wasn't hoping to receive. It seems as if a very good friend is on a rapid downward slide.

I've known Glenn and his wife, Mickey, since I moved to San Antonio. I've traveled with them, often to South Padre Island but also to Santa Fe, N.M. I rang in the new millennium at the top of their tree house, which they have at the back of their ranch house. And they celebrated more than a few Kentucky Derby Days and Night of the Radishes at my house. We've cooked together, gone on birding trips and dolphin tours, and just relaxed under the love oaks in their backyard. We've eaten our way through restaurants far and wide, we've sampled fine wines, guzzled lousy gins, sipped Moscow Mules (a drink Glenn introduced me to years before they got trendy) and generally enjoyed each others' company whenever we could.

He has always displayed this outsized lust for life that made him so much fun to be around. Unfortunately, he has had to go on oxygen and it has depleted his energy almost entirely. In less than two weeks' time, he's become almost entirely bedridden and hospice has been called in to help the two of them at their home. Who knows if he has a week or a month, but he seems to be ready, from what my friends tell me. I am set to go out Thursday. I may try to go out sooner.

Some of those HHW vibes for Glenn would be appreciated.

DR TCB - LAUGHING STOCK as DR GEORGE said.....is a comedy about a theatre company that produces shows in a barn.....just like we do....a lot of it strikes very close to home in a very humorous way.....I'm hoping that it survives the general board meeting.

The Program Committee works hard to put together a season that will work together with our talent pool and our audiences....  Then we get into a meeting and some fool says....."Oh, my great aunt Minnie saw [show] and she didn't like it at all...."

"Oh that's terrible....remember when we did Beans for Breakfast back in grade school?"

"Oh I love Beans for Breakfast....oh let's do that.  All in favor.....motion passes."

And there you are.

Thanks for your information DR ELMORE.  I am reading the script online and it seems a bit disjointed, but I will have the CD soon to listen to.

Just watched a wonderful production of The Skin of Our Teeth with Blair Brown, Harold Gould, Sada Thompson and Rue Maclanahan. I hadn't read or seen the play before. Great stuff.

I have just finished the last of the loquats. I made 5 1/2 pints of loquat jelly.

So, that's two types of jam, one order of preserves, one mammoth batch of chutney and tonight's jelly, plus a loquat raspberry pie. I think I'm ready for the season to be over.

I think I saw it 6 times, maybe more.  Both in LA and NYC. I loved seeing how the show developed.

Back from a good Kritzerland show.  Almost full house.  Not my favorite of our shows, although there were many highlights.  I just didn't have the time to do what I normally do, and we cast it so late that I had to let some of the singers do stuff they knew - unfortunately, that rarely works for our shows, which are highly structured.  I never had any real time to finesse the commentary and therefore didn't even notice that I'd left one song out of the commentary - fortunately I knew the history of the show pretty well and was able to improvise my way through.  And we had so much trouble casting the second male, and I took a chance on someone Doug suggested and while he's a very talented fellow, cabaret is too new to him and he was too uncomfortable and nervous (he was much better at the stumble-through), and he blew several lyrics in his first song, which just put him in a bad place in his head.  I will never do that again - I either have to know or hear the person - cannot cast blindly.  Kerry was superb as was Damon Kirsche and Brittney Bertier and Amy Gillette both did well, but again, I should have chosen their songs, not them.  Maude Maggart everyone loved.  And opening the show with our entire cast of the LA show was great.  Some of my patter landed very well and the tiny What If I did actually got howls of laughter.  One of the most assured performers in the show?  Sami Staitman.  She inverted a lyric in my song about movie theaters and I heard it right away and was so scared for her and how she was going to work her way out of it - but not one single person in that room had any idea and she got back on track brilliantly - the two lines involved thankfully could go in either order, but it was musically getting out of the second line (which she did first) that was worrisome and she was just perfect.

BK, you'll always realize the mistakes, but the audience won't.  They enjoyed it.  It was a learning experience.  Congrats on the show!
