Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of the final five, and now it is time for you to post until the final five cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: FURPHY!
-
First post after BK!
-
First post after TCB!
-
Well, I need to get some much needed sleep.
Good night, Tom!
-
Good night, George.
-
I wish I could remember if I was part of the Indiegogo cast CD fundraiser.
-
Good morning to all
-
Good morning, all.
-
Woke up at five in the a.m. and finally gave up and got up. There will have to be a nap at some point during my day. I have a lot of work to do at the piano, and I'd like to actually be awake this evening at a semi-staged reading of Sartre's NO EXIT I'm attending.
-
I am very very glad to hear BK will be capturing the show in both audio and video.
-
Got two more productions to attend this weekend: THE TALE OF THE ALLERGIST'S WIFE at one theater, which I'm really looking forward to, and THE FANTASTICKS at another. That's one I was asked to do, and I'm afraid I wouldn't have even if it hadn't overlapped other commitments. But there's no way I'll miss seeing what they're doing with it
-
A week from Saturday I'm accompanying a few people in a li'l preview of their summer season featuring ZORBA and THE FANTASTICKS. After that, I just have ACT ONE, and that about covers the excitement here through late June.
-
Well.....I ran the three numbers from LITTLE WOMEN. This pianist - who is classically trained, I am told - can't seem to remember from day to day what she played for the ballroom dance......she either stops too soon or just keeps going when the dance is done. The dance NEVER changes....so it has to be the music. I will take her a CD of what she played the first night we did it, maybe it will help her remember.
She was also adding two measures before a dance break in another song....two in addition to what was written - to give the actor time to move downstage.....the first time it was forever. I asked her to just play the original two measures....not enough time.
I just asked: "How can four measures last 20 seconds and two measures can only last 6 seconds?" She replied: "Maybe I'll just play the four measures faster." "Good idea," says I.
-
Science!
-
And of course my LEAD was not at ON GOLDEN POND - his wife's surgery was yesterday. And of course I could NOT explain to everyone why he was not there and that in fact, he may not be doing the show.... And our kid actor was also a no show.
When he was called, he said he didn't know he was supposed to be there, although he was TOLD and there was a BIG YELLOW POST IT NOTE on his script with the day and time on it......
-
Yesterday and the day before were NOT good days for many reasons. Hopefully today will be better all around.
The good thing is today is my mother's LAST radiation treatment!
-
Good morning, all! I slept late for all the complained of resons for the past several month. I was much happier before my doctor decided all I need is Tylenol and Tylenol PM.
-
I am going to see THE MERRY WIVES OF WINDSOR on Sunday! It is set in the 1950's - as one does.
-
DR vixmom, yes, former DRs Jed and Ann are in Manhattan and this is the second time, to my knowledge, they have visited without contacting anyone. I've moved them from the A-list and have no plans to maintain any interest in their activities on or off HHW.
-
This is a work-at-home day. There's much to be done on three different jobs.
-
I'm grateful the fourth, the final Moross edit, is still out.
-
DR ChasSmith, why would you turn down THE FANTASTICKS?
-
I got a wonderful email from my friend fighting cancer:
I went to Philadelphia on Monday and got great news from the doctors. The treatment was apparently very successful and they are extremely encouraged.
Since my friend Alan Freeman was told his brain tumor was in remission in 2013 and then died from it in March 2014, I trust no diagnosis. Please keep him in your thoughts.
-
DR ChasSmith, why would you turn down THE FANTASTICKS?
Much about the way this venue operates and approaches material is not to my liking. As regards the music in this case, I was told up front that I'd be the only one paid while they'd be using a volunteer bass player and drummer, and that seeking a harpist would not even be considered. It also overlapped existing commitments. Even if the opportunity had been desirable, I wouldn't have been able to take it without damaging other relationships. All of that having been said, I'm curious to see it and I'm sort of in study mode on it anyway since I'll be playing several numbers for another group next week.

Wonderful! What promising news. And he absolutely remains in our thoughts.

Delightful exchange!

Could she perhaps exchange some money for me?

TOD: Hot dogs in a blanket

Page 2 before 10 a.m. EST, possibly?
-
Yes! Page 2!
-
DR JRand65, fire the pianist, She's an idiot.
-
DR ChasSmith, THE FANTASTICKS with no harp is a souffle that will not rise, in my book.
-
I just got slapped on FB for liking BRIGHT STAR!
-
TOD:
There's a lot of appetizers I haven't had in many years because Mark either doesn't like or is allergic to most of them, but here's a few of my favorites:
stuff mushrooms
fried calamari
spinach-artichoke dip
The only appetizers Mark and I sometimes do get are crab cakes and bruschetta, which are both very nice.
-
Good Morning
-
I'll be back later
-
Good morning, all.
-
It's a very wet morning here. We've had 5 inches of rain in some areas.
And I, of course, had to fill the gas tank on the way to work.
-
I just got slapped on FB for liking BRIGHT STAR!
I love this score. Sun Is Gonna Shine Again is my theme song for the week.
-
TOD:
Antipasti of any sort
Charcuterie
Cheeses
One of my favorites to make is raw radish ravioli. Take thinly sliced daikon radish and soak it in lime juice. On one slice spread a combination of goat cheese mixed with toasted pine nuts. Top with another radish slice and piece together like ravioli.

I do, too. Ms Brickell's lyrics are often poor, and in the case of the adult Alice Murphy's really lousy and out of character, but the heart and humanity in this show are huge.

Another bit of good news: there might be a reading of Moonshine and Mistletoe in the first week of August at the York Theatre if we can make it happen.
-
There is much happy news about "upcoming" Blu-ray discs of musical films coming out of Warner Archives!
Slated, but not yet scheduled for ordering, are:
Love Me or Leave Me
Silk Stockings
Victor, Victoria
The Unsinkable Molly Brown

Fire the pianist! HA! She won't be there tonight for some reason - we only have the keyboard player.

Good morning, every day,
Her joys, her woes...

I agree, how long remission will last can be a guessing game. Still, good news from your friend.

LOL DR CHAS SMITH - I must stop saying bad things about her here when I am nice to her in REAL life.....it isn't nice.

;D
-
Bruce how are garlic cheese bread and clam chowder calorie friendly?
-
Because the garlic cheese bread is cut in very tiny pieces and eating three of them is like eating one dinner roll, and a cup of clam chowder has under 300 calories in it.
-
I shall shortly be on my way to LACC for our matinee, after doing an errand or two.
-
Thursday afternoon greetings! I was out of here early for my collage/art journaling class in New Lebanon and came home by way of the southern Dayton 'burbs where I did some errands. Might need a nap before book group tonight...
-
People are starting to really annoy me - present company excluded.
-
The dress rehearsal we attended last night was quite an extravaganza. First there was the world premiere of a (too long) one-act opera that was supposed to provide some context for Carmina Burana. It did that, but was not very strong material. The opening was very derivative of the opening of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Phantom of the Opera with a baron and a bookseller competing for the book of poems on which Carmina Burana is based. Then, the rest of it was, "I have the book" and "I want the book" back and forth. I found the scenery, lighting, and visual effects more interesting than the piece. The second act was the actual Carmina Burana performed by the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra, the Dayton Ballet, and the orchestra and opera choruses. The 3 main characters from the one-act opera were the soloists and got in the way of the dancers from time to time.
We did get to see a little behind the scenes stuff during intermission. Maestro Gittelman wanted to run the auction scene to correct some timing issues. It was also amusing when he messed up his part of the curtain call. They made us leave after that, but we could hear the strains of "O Fortuna" as we were leaving, so I guess there was still some work to do. I'll find out more from Sharon (opera chorister) when I see her tonight at book group.
-
I have seen soloists get in the way of the dancers - it isn't pretty.

I just watched a Kevin Kline-Maggie Smith film by Israel Horowitz, My Old Lady. I sorta liked it, but I either missed something or a scene is missing.
I'm off to bed.

I remember My Old Lady. I'm not sure what you are referring to, however, I do recall being a bit confused at one point. :D

The end of the Southerner is no happier than the beginning. Lot of misery in this movie. I can believe when I read that Faulkner had a hand in the script.

I'll start something cheerier next. Like Macbeth.

Now there's a laugh riot.

There is a five page closing disclosure form that I have to complete for every transaction. After getting aparticularly detailed and complicated one completed I printed it and watched in amazement as half the entries disappeared while others were suddenly duplicated or triplicated

Another long day of work and dancing.

And I missed tonight's start of the wine and food festival going on. But I'm going tomorrow night.

Sorry about that. I was on a roll. Congratulations on your milestone!

So what did you decide, furniture wise Tom?
No decision made. I may bag the whole idea. The whole thing is just too overwhelming. Having to move the old furniture out. Cleaning the carpet before moving the new stuff in. Having to beg friends for help moving things.

Yes, that is what I should have said. I enjoy the supporting cast, as well as the two leads. Together, they have created their own world that is totally separate from "the odd couple."

Good night, George.
