Well, you've read the notes, the notes met Hayley, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently MOOting Hayley.
-
And the word of the day is: SACERDOTAL!
-
First after BK? Been a long time since that's happened for me.
-
Lovely notes and lovely photos!
-
good morning from Boston
-
Good morning, all!

TOD
I had the opportunity to meet many people of the years, but top twofavorites have been
Stephen Sondheim (been invited inside his house)
Angela Lansbury (worked with her on a tv movie. Got to talk with her asked her about Sondheim and her doing Sunset Blvd)
-
I've been up an hour. I had to deal with an email problem, answer a request about orchestrating for band, and I need to finish up some G&D work before I head out around 1:00.
-
Tomorrow I am seeing Barbra Streisand in concert. First seeing her live.
-
At 2:30 I'm seeing Dr Gitlin about these hip injections. Before I go, I need a trip to post office.
-
And while I'm out the temperatures will be in the 90s.
Hoop-de-doo!
-
Tomorrow I am seeing Barbra Streisand in concert. First seeing her live.
Enjoy the concert.

GOOD VIBES!
-
Hayley Mills is incredibly talented. Are you having her sing anything else besides "Let's Get together"?
-
Good morning, all.
-
Coffee!
-
Great notes and pictures.
VIBES for a greater than ever long day and show!

I was somehow allowed to sleep in a bit this morning, and like I've said before, sleeping more than usual is always a hotbed for the absolutely craziest dreams, and they go on, and on, and on.
This one concerned a graduation day. Mine, perhaps, who knows. And concert music needing to be prepared. And laundry needing to be done. And living in a bizarre house with the craziest bathroom. And being around a bunch of people in the nearby school lobby who I sort of knew, with the few I did know being involved in some bizarre project in a small room just out of sight.
And as I began to wake up and lie there for a moment, my eyes would close again and the thing would resume, practically seamlessly. Finally I said Enough! and got the hell up.
-
DR Elmore, you mentioned an email problem. Did you get one from me yesterday? No hurry on replying!, just checking -- because oddly enough, I have three (3) emails sent out yesterday that don't have replies yet, something that happens to me now and then and if I recall correctly, you said that happened to you not long ago.
-
I'm going to have to think about the TOD. It's a good question and I need to do some reminiscing.
-
I'm up, I'm up - maybe six hours of sleep.
-
Great notes and pictures.
VIBES for a greater than ever long day and show!

TOD:
That is such a difficult question. I've met so many, and almost all have been interesting in different ways.
It would be easier to answer who was the least interesting, and that would have to be:
Oops! I'd better not say, because he's still alive.
He used to be a major television star; had a couple of hit series.
I met him at a party many years ago. He was friendly, but so BORING.
-
Celebrities, Hmmm . . .
Most fun: Elaine Stritch, Jim Dale, Stockard Channing, Stephen Sondheim, Jerry Herman, Ilka Chase, Twiggy
Not fun: Kiri Te Kanawa, F. Murray Abraham
You didn't like Murray Abraham?
I met him when he was playing Al Capone in the film I wrote. He seemed like a nice guy. We spoke on the phone a few times after that.
-
Monday morning greetings! Pouring rain here. If this keeps up, we're going to need to build an ark.
-
I have been looking at a slide show of photos of the Montreal Botanical Gardens. I would like to go there. DR Jennifer is it as impressive as the photos?
-
TOD:
I've spoken with very few celebrities. When Mark was writing for the Ventura County Star newspaper, he occasionally interviewed celebrities on the phone from our house. I talked him into letting me answer the phone like a secretary: "Mark Wyckoff's desk, may I help you?" even though they were calling our house. It was pretty funny. I got to answer the phone for Burt Ward and Bob Eubanks that way. Unfortunately, I wasn't home when Huey Lewis called us.
The only celebrities I've talked to for any length of time are David Cassidy and Shirley Jones (not at the same time). They are both charming, interesting people.
-
I love the notes AND the photos!!
So excited for MR BK being able to meet and work with Hayley Mills and Hayley Mills and Richard Sherman!!!
WOW!!!
Show Day vibes for MR BK & Co.
-
HMMMMM.....TOD:
Donna Douglas - who was making an appearance for a radio station in my hometown, and I couldn't pass up the opportunity to walk down the street and meet Elly May Clampett. She was charming and loved talking to people....EXCEPT for the Elvis Presley impersonator who wanted a photo with her - she was a bit freaked out.
But my favorite celebrity meeting was with MR BK himself....when he and DR CHARLES POGUE came to Indy several years ago.....FUN!!!!
-
I have found many authors I have spoken to very interesting, but they were brief conversations.
I have spoken with many actors. I rate Henry Jones as the most interesting, not that we was actually speaking just with me. I had the privilege to be invited to the same evening for dinner.
The most interesting celebrity I have spoken to, and the one I have had the most conversations with, is Ray Bradbury.
-
BK, great notes today about your get-together with Hayley Mills and Richard Sherman!
-
I shall now be on my way to the Pasadena Playhouse for the long day, and then our show.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Made it safely to Louisville, despite some misadventures on the road.
-
The bird has also survived. And he's trying out for the next production of Peter Pan, because all he seems to be doing is crowing. ++
-
TOD:
I have met more than a few back in the day, but I guess the ones that meant the most were Lena Horne, Bobby Short, Harold Nicholas, Lily Tomlin and Charles Strouse.
-
Tomorrow I am seeing Barbra Streisand in concert. First seeing her live.
Have a great time!

My friend Carol worked wardrobe on the Madison Square Garden production of Christmas Carol. She said that the season Abraham played Scrooge, he was always nice to the people backstage. She had him autograph a DVD of Amadeus as a gift for me. (Likewise, Tony Roberts autographed a CD of How Now, Dow Jones for me when he played Scrooge.)
-
BK, great notes today about your get-together with Hayley Mills and Richard Sherman!
They were, indeed. Kritzer Time is next on the list when I get back home.
-
Hello from Amtrak train 185. I've been catching up on notes and posts from the last several days.
-
TOD - James Roosevelt, son of FDR and Eleanor. He visited the Miami University Middletown campus when I was library director there. This photo was taken at a faculty member's home by our campus PR guy, who delivered a print to me the next morning. That afternoon, when JR visited the library he autographed the photo and we chatted about pop culture portrayals of his father (like in Annie). I'm on the far right in the photo and the other women are my friends Stefanie and Jenny.

Awful man. He was either rude and insulting to the Drama Book Shop employees or overly nice. So were Tom Hulce, Jeff Daniels and Fran Liebowitz. Tovah Feldshuh could be unpleasant at Barnes & Noble.
Also fun: Madeleine Kahn, Ann Meara, Jerry Stiller, Hume Cronyn, Lynn Redgrave, Milton Berle, and composer Johnny Green, whom I loved.

I knew Johnny Green through my client, Paul Francis Webster, who wrote the lyrics for the title song of RAINTREE COUNTY. I also found him to be very pleasant.
I met Milton Berle when I accompanied client Abe Vigoda to a Friar's Club roast. He was..."Milton Berle".

With regard to Murray Abraham, I certainly don't know what was going on at the time, but I can understand how somebody might lose their patience with a bookstore clerk.
The fact that somebody works in a bookstore does not mean they are well read.
I didn't lose my temper and wasn't rude, but I recall two different instances where I was in a bookstore, asked the clerk for a title, and they replied: "Do you have an author?"
The books were DR. JEKYLL AND MR. HYDE and OTHELLO.
I guess they don't teach basic literature in school any longer. They just teach to the test.

Nice photo DR GINNY....thanks for sharing....and for the story.
My friend worked with F. Murray Abraham on a tv show......my friend asked him what the "F" stood for, and he replied: "Famous."

He wishes. He is one of the "inexplicable" Oscar winners...along with Adrian Brody and Gwyneth Paltrow and Halle Berry, et. al.

Hello, everyone.
-
Ron's left. When you return, Ron, will you let us know how you're feeling?
Hope to hear you're on the mend.
-
I didn't get enough sleep last night and am not fit to do other than mundane things. I have laundry in the dryer, then my second ART treatment at 2pm. I can't say I've seen any progress so far, but I'll give it another chance.
-
PAIN-RELIEF VIBES to Larry, TCB, and anyone else who needs them.
-
I've also been watching AGATHA RAISIN. I like Ashley Jensen, who plays Agatha. She was wonderful in UGLY BETTY. I'm so-so about AR. I suspect the producers felt they needed to soften the lead character. Even with AJ's charm, I find the character not very likeable.
-
Jane, Acorn also has A PLACE TO CALL HOME, an Australian drama that is just riveting. I watched the first two seasons on Netflix. It's the sort of thing that you shouldn't start if time is limited. It's very addictive.
-
John G, I meant to send you travel vibes, and see that you could have used them. Glad you're safely there, though. I hope your stay goes as smoothly as possible.
-
SHOW VIBES TO BK and CO!

Vibes for a good week to all DRs!

Yes DR JOHN I am glad that you and your aviary companion made it to Kentucky....home of my paternal ancestors.

Hope to hear you're on the mend.
Am feeling much better. Have slept through the last two nights in my bed. Happily, I was able to sleep on both "sides" last night without resorting to coughing spasms. The next step will be to resume using my C-Pap. Last night, I tried but it was "no go". My breathing patterns just haven't gotten back to normal, but I'm coping rather well.
Thanks for asking.

Your post implied that nice guy F. Murray Abraham could lose his patience with a book clerk who knew nothing. He wasn't a nice guy. He was arrogant, impatient, pompous, misinformed, and he was downright nasty and supercilous to me since I could not provide what he wanted. What he wanted did not exist, and he only calmed down when the shop owner assured him that I was correct. There was no apology either.
-
Glad to hear DR RLP is feeling better.

DR ELMORE maybe the "F" stood for something different than "Famous."

Topic of the Day: I haven't met a lot of celebrities, but the ones that I have met have pretty much all been interesting:
Of course, our very own BK, and his writing partner David Wechter, when they came to Olympia to see TAO's production of THE BRAIN FROM PLANET X.
Jarrod Emick, he was cast in and as SWEENEY TODD at Capital Playhouse. It was a very interesting (but good) production. I got to chat with him after the show and he autographed my CD of DAMN YANKEES (http://www.haineshisway.com/smf/index.php?topic=1540.msg383274#msg383274) that I brought to be autographed.
Frank Ferrante, he performed the show GROUCHO: A LIFE IN REVUE here in Olympia and had what was supposed to be a "comedy workshop" earlier in the day, and I went to the workshop. It was essentially just five people sitting around and chatting with Frank. It was a lot of fun.
The Manhattan Transfer performed in Olympia! I just briefly met Janis Siegel and Alan Paul, chatted a bit with Tim Hauser, but I got to chat the longest with Cheryl Bentyne twice, once then in Olympia and once in Seattle a few years before that at her solo show at The Triple Door.
Marin Mazzie in London, England after seeing KISS ME, KATE! Brent Barrett was in that production, but he never came to the stage door.
Diane Schuur, jazz singer, when I was in college.
Otherwise, I've just been introduced to celebrities such as Betty Buckley, Patti LuPone, Bernadette Peters, Regis Philbin...I'm sure that there have been more, but those are the ones that I can remember.
-
Speaking of books, this The Bookman's Tale is quite wonderful.
I just a hold on it at the library. I'm next in the queue.
-
I have been looking at a slide show of photos of the Montreal Botanical Gardens. I would like to go there. DR Jennifer is it as impressive as the photos?
I have not been there in a very long time. But it is very nice.
-
I remember the first time I went to Border's, to the original store before they became a chain, in Ann Arbor. It was the best book store I had ever been in and the staff were all well read and well informed.
-
Ron's left. When you return, Ron, will you let us know how you're feeling?

I looked for more to this. It is very good that you like him. Did he give you an injection or do anything besides tell you to meditate?

Sorry DR Druxy but I apparently read it the same way DR elmore did, not that I believed is was what you meant to say.
Me too. There's no excuse for him to be rude.
-
Thunderstorms in the DC area tonight.
-
While in New York, I saw "The Humans." I enjoyed it very much. Jayne Houdyshell is just fantastic!
-
I also really enjoyed "Cagney." Robert Creighton is wonderful in the title role.
-
Nice photo, DR Ginny!
-
Break a leg vibes for BK and company! I would love to see Hayley Mills and Richard Sherman's duet!
-
And now, I'm off. I'm going to do a little shopping before I go home, and then I'm going home.
Be back later.
-
Vibes for BK and co. tonight.
-
Thank you, DR Jeanne. Words of advice: never book a hotel/motel room last minute through Expedia.com.
-
Two separate motels I booked rooms in didn't have the reservations or a room when I showed up. After driving 600 or so miles, I was not happy. Extremely not happy.

Absolutely not...and I said that.
-
I wonder how the show's going. And I hope there will be videos.
-
Gratuitous post No. 102.

I didn't say he was rude, just that it sounded different than he intended it.

I have heard of this happening. Our missing reservation in Krakow was not through Expedia.

Bobby Creighton is such a wonderful person! I love him. Every time his Irish brogue pops up on the "Paint Your Wagon" CD, I break into a huge smile.
Another celebrities I really liked working with: Keith Carradine, John Turturro, and Zoe Wanamaker.

The new Ben-Hur is only two hours long. Huh? Is it just the chariot race?

Ron's left. When you return, Ron, will you let us know how you're feeling?
Hope to hear you're on the mend.
Very glad to hear this. Yes, it often takes a while to get back to 100%, but you sound like you've come a long way. Vibes for continued progress.

We only found the first 4 episodes. Agatha gets points for trying ;D
They're releasing a new episode each Monday during August, so there should be a total of six.

Maddening. I'd also be upset. I hope the bird told them off.

Where's TCB?
-
Maybe he's recovering from his vacation.
-
Good night.

Thanks. We were thinking about canceling Acorn but can'take now. We have to keep watching A PLACE TO CALL HOME. Thank you very much for suggesting we watch it.

Yes, it is addictive. We watched 2 episodes tonight.

Hmmm I have been lucky enough to meet some really nice celebrities apart from the wonderful meetings with BK and Elmore and FJL and Skip
-
George Takei was really nice the Vixter and I went to a. Lecture about the Japanese internment camps and afterwards he stayed and spoke with just the two of us for about 20 minutes
-
Occasional but mostly lapsed DR Charles Pogues close and personal friend Harlan Ellison was fun. He was so curmudgeonly during his talk and then while we were getting his autograph someone came up and asked if I was the Vixters mom. Turns out she was feeling ill and sent for me.... (Turned out to be too much junk food in her delicate tummy).... The next day Vixdad and I went to another of his talks and he spotted us in the audience and stopped the Lecture to chat with us and find out how she was and what had been wrong and proceeded to tell some anecdotes about how he drove his mother crazy when he was a boy
-
