Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of the benefit, and now it is time for you to post until the third annual cows come home.

Had a pretty solid sleep, but with a dream about a couple of songs from a particular show that, during it, I could SWEAR I'd had before, or been over this material before, possibly earlier in the night.  It's all a lie, I know.  But dreams are powerful things, and we are so gullible.  I'm just always amazed at this.

Very glad to hear the starry night went well, even with hiccups.  I know BK will enjoy his lunch(eon) at Disney Studios today!

I saw a play once.  It was a comedy.  One of the actors was a bit "off" during one scene...and it ended with him sending a blast of vomit across the stage floor.

Curtains, everyone!   He recovered and continued into the next act.  A light smattering of applause accompanied his entrance.  Fewer patrons, however, were there to experience his recovery.

In Cleveland, around 1968 or 1969 when the Metropolitan Opera was still doing its tours, I was in the typically inappropriate, cavernous, Cleveland City Auditorium or whatever it was called, watching (I think) Trovatore.  Suddenly, during a quiet scene, someone screamed a few times and I saw some scurrying around about a mile from my seat.  And that was it.  I never learned what happened.

In L.A., early 1980s, I was watching a film at the Royal on Santa Monica Blvd. (a few blocks west of the Nuart), and something of a similar nature happened but without the noise.  They turned the lights on and held the film while the ambulance got there and took the person out.  The movie was one of those takes on Carmen

Apparently, the operatic world carries a certain amount of risk.

Okay, that's it.  The contest is closed.  We have a winner.

Wonderful notes!  Congrats to MR BK & Co!

Sounds like a wonderful night....and the hiccups can be expected with such a SHORT rehearsal schedule.  It's more amazing that anything goes RIGHT than a few things go wrong.

It is INEXCUSABLE that MR BK's name was omitted from the program.....

I haven't been to any of these celebrity-laden fundraisers, but I have been to culinary ones. The sit down dinners are endless. Twelve or 14 courses of food you don't really want to eat separated by an endless stream of chefs blathering on about the sous vide or confit methods they used. One chef, whom I actually like, told about the heirloom tomatoes that he let cook for nine hours and all this torture he put them through. What we had on our plate looked and tasted liked a canned tomato. Yawn.

I can think of two:
1.  The Three Musketeers on Broadway; dreadful show.  The horse on its way through the theatre to the stage dropped a big load in the aisle.
2.  In Love, Valour, Compassion, Randy Becker left the stage during a dinner scene and never returned.  After a long wait, the stage management asked if there were a doctor available.  Becker had had a seizure.  We sat for a bit and then there was an announcement that Becker's understudy weas getting ready to go on.  That night we saw six naked men instead of five.

In my second grade Christmas pageant, one of my classmates vomited, forcing us to spread out in our little fold-up wooden chairs. It was a new church with nigh perfect acoustics. Don't know which was worse, the echo of his puking or the clatter of our chairs.

Had a very stressful 15 hours.

Last night I came home with dinner with friends and when I came back to the apartment I am staying in the key broke off in the lock and I couldn't get in.

Fortunately the people who own the apartment also have a guest house. I called the emergency number for the guest house and someone met me there. They put me up in one of their rooms and called a locksmith in the morning.

It was a very stressful night and I didn't sleep well. The locksmith didn't come until late morning and most of my day was wasted and couldn't go to Cambridge as I wanted to.

The plus for the day is I am going to see Barbra Steisand tonight.

I am so afraid that the the key will break in the lock again that I am limiting my going in and out of the apartment.

I leave early tomorrow morning.

TOD - During a Sunday service in our former church there was a commotion behind us and to our right.  An elderly gentleman had passed out and his wife was calling for help.  My friend Barb, who's a nurse, shot out of the choir loft to help and 9-1-1 was called.  They asked everyone else to remain seated while the medics stabilized him and took him out.  The organist quietly played hymns and it was very somber.  Turned out to be some kind of imbalance in Mr. F's medications and he was fine after that was addressed in the hospital.

Michael:  A little WD-40 sprayed into the keyhole on both sides of the door should make the lockworks operate more smoothly.  A new key is unlikely to break in the lock, at any rate.

Today I visited one of those WE BUY GOLD stores. I brought in the gold from the two gold crowns I recently had replaced. Four tiny bits of gold = $22, about what I thought it would be. Not even close to what the new crowns cost me, but it did buy lunch.  :)

(I use a rebate credit card at the dentist and the points bought me a DVD.)

Congrats to TCB on his raffle winnings!

I couldn't be happier for you.

But what is a 50/50 raffle?

A 50/50 raffle is where the theater gets half the proceeds, and the winner is supposed to receive the other half, but is usually asked to give it back to the theater.

Well, it's time for me to leave work.  I need to go downtown to The Midnight Sun.  Theater Artists Olympia is doing another installment of their "Words Words Words" series.  This time, it's "Contemporary Horror Stories."  Spooky!! :D

I'll be running the sound and/or lights, which I've only really done a couple of times there, so hopefully, it won't be difficult.  I'll find out tonight!

Be back later.

Elmore, I've started reading Balzac's Cousin Pons, which apparently a companion novel to his Cousin Bette. The main character is a composer down on his luck who, when things are flush, hires his friend to do the copying work for him. Good, juicy read. Almost all of the characters are grotesques.

Sad to read about John McLaughlin dying at 89. He hadn't missed a show in 34 years until this past Sunday. I didn't necessarily agree with him, but I did enjoy the bombast of his show. And I loved the SNL spoof of him.

Actually it was Texas  Roadhouse  for dinner!  They had sent me a birthday coupon for a free appetizer or sidekick so I chose a side of their grilled shrimp to accompany my 6 oz sirloin and baked sweet potato and house salad

I am so sorry to hear this.  I am glad at least you had as place to stay but what a shame there wasn't. 24 hour locksmith available to get you in right away

A 50/50 is very common around these parts.... Half the pot goes to the winner the other 50% is kept by the organization

Went to Gelson's for some snacks.  For lunch I had what was a very small Cobb salad dressed with red wine vinaigrette and very little of that - so very low cal and that's all I had.  The deli at Gelson's was absurd - a twenty minute wait at 8:15, mostly thanks to only two workers and two entitled Studio City twerps ordering everything under the sun and plenty of it.  One of them finally looked like they were done but the little entitled kiddies needed corn dogs and chicken tenders.
