Well, you've read the notes, the notes are counting down, and now it is time for you to post until the counting down cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: ETYMOLOGY!
-
First post after BK!
-
Second post after BK!

T.O.D.
INVADERS FROM MARS
THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL
INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS

Just as I was leaving my parents' house after the family dinner and losing two, count 'em, TWO games of Phase 10 last night, my friend David texted me, asking if I wanted to meet him and his wife at Denny's. We hadn't seen each other in a couple of weeks, so I said sure, I didn't have anything better to do. We chatted for a couple of hours and ate. I actually ordered the loaded hash browns...it was a smallish side dish (so I'm not stuffed) and totally delish. Then I came home, which is where I am now, of course. :)
-
Today, I need to get some paint so that the floor of The Midnight Sun can be repainted black in preparation for TAO's next production which opens next Friday! I also need to get a new mop head for the mop at The Sun...it's old and kinda gross. :P
-
Then, the stage manager, the other ASM and I will meet to assemble the sound cues into the computer sound board and work on the light cues. Then, I'll come home and make some props that I said that I could make: an Ella Fitzgerald CD, a Billie Holiday CD (I'm just going to print out the booklet covers and endcards), and jazz charts for a small combo. The actor just holds them, so they don't need to be the correct parts, just specific titles on the music. It'll be very easy.
-
Good night, George!
-
Good night, Tom! I'm off to bed now, too.
8)

Sorry to have been E &it. Between work and this head cold. Basically working and sleeping
-
good morning to all
-
Glad to see Michael is here and OK!
-
Good morning, all.

And an early one it is. I have a library sale to go to this morning. Last one of the season for me. Fortunately, it's my very own town's library and the sale is held only two miles down the road from me. That's really nice and relaxing for a change, and I didn't really have to be up this early, but it's fine.
-
So, a cup of coffee, perhaps a breakfast burrito, and I'm out of here for a while.
Cold go away vibes to vixmom, and best weekend vibes to all.
-
TOD
THEM! is the best sci-fi movie to come out of the the 1950s and, indeed, is one of the best of the overall genre. Great script. Good actors. Well directed. Even with the clunky giant ants, it holds up extremely well.
Director Gordon Douglas told me he was more proud of that film than any of the others he had ever done.
-
TOD (2):
For sentimental reasons, I also enjoy:
THE BEAST FROM 20,000 FATHOMS
CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON
-
So glad to hear Michael is safe. Vixter and VixBF are fine they lost their electric for 2 hours it came back on and promptly shut fine for another several hours but by nightfall they had power again. Did anyone hear from Danise?
-
Good morning.
-
Good morning, all!
-
I slept late and wouldn't mind staying in bed today, I have no plans and little ambition.
-
I will tidy a bit, clean up more of my mess, and maybe work on a score.
-
Back from the library sale with just a few odds and ends.
It's a strange day -- cooler, and quite misty in this part of town. Don't know why. Driving past the lake on my way to the sale, I couldn't even see the water, and I just assumed there was a ghost ship out there and I'd best keep moving.
-
Enjoying another cup of coffee.
-
And the bacon-y breakfast burrito I didn't have earlier.
-
And a nice medium sized tomato out of a friend's garden, sliced, with fresh ground pepper and Himalayan salt.
Delicious.
-
This evening I'm returning for the closing night performance of THE MAN WHO SHOT LIBERTY VALANCE and I'll drop by the cast par-tay at a friend's house afterward.
-
Saturday morning greetings! Sorry I left my computer logged in here all day and all night.
To answer DR TCB's question about First Friday: It's a thing to get people to downtown Middletown. All the studios and galleries in the Pendleton Art Center are open, as are the shops and restaurants along Central Avenue, and there's live music and refreshments. It's kind of the "place to be" in Middletown and we usually drop in for a bit each month. Yesterday, we left home about 4:30 to go to the public library first and traffic down Central Avenue was bumper to bumper. Turns out the Middletown High School homecoming parade was forming up in the parking lot just north of the library (and across Broad Street from DR John G's former workplace). So, we visited the library and then stood at the corner of their parking lot to watch the parade step off. We wouldn't have intentionally gone to the homecoming parade, but it was fun to see it since we were there.
-
Unfortunately, the Middies were trounced 47-8 by Colerain.
-
I like that First Friday idea, DR Ginny.
-
Two!
-
Good morning, all!
-
Glad to see DRs Michael and Druxy back with us.
-
I need to get the neighborhood library book sale this morning.
-
Great find vibes for DR CHAS SMITH and DR JOHN G at the liberry sales.
-
DR JEANNE I got my Boiron cough medicine today, so I try it out.

TOD:
The Creature Walks Among Us
Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman
Them
Invaders From Mars
Flight to Mars
World Without End
The Queen of Outer Space
War of the Satellites
-
I'm up, I'm up - I think I got a little over eight hours of sleep.
-
From DR TCB:
You could have taken it home to have for breakfast.
I could have but, of course, it was best that I didn't. I brought home leftover wedge salad. We never by iceberg lettuce anymore so the salad is a treat.
I was rather surprised to find a wedge salad, I kept hearing about as if it was a new popular salad, was basically an typical salad when we were young.
-
From TCB:
Now, I have lost Jane and all three guests.
Sorry I missed these posts. I read for a little bit and then fell asleep.
-
Thanks for the vibes Tom. I slept and am fine. I really needed to sleep.
-
Sorry to have been E &it. Between work and this head cold. Basically working and sleeping
I hope sleeping more than working. Try to rest on Sunday instead of working as hard as you normally do.
-
good morning to all
Good morning. You were way too quiet during the hurricane.
-
So glad to hear Michael is safe. Vixter and VixBF are fine they lost their electric for 2 hours it came back on and promptly shut fine for another several hours but by nightfall they had power again. Did anyone hear from Danise?
Danise is fine weather wise, however, she was home sick. I haven't had an update on that yet.
-
DR Druxy, is your vision better today?
-
Just had a lovely chat with Hayley (Mills) - I may go meet her and her sister at some bar at six, or, better for me, may meet them for brunch tomorrow - bars are too noisy. She'd invited me to see her son at the Roxy tonight, but I can't do rock concerts in small venues - last time I tried that at the Roxy it killed my hearing for a week.

Her sister Juliet?
-
I would guess so since she only has one sister and one brother.
-
I heard back from Danise and she is feeling better.
-
Either way - it's time well spent with Miss Hayley Mills.....I think I would prefer brunch as well.
-
DR Druxy, is your vision better today?
It's sharper, but the eye the was operated on seems to be slightly darker; like there is a slightly tinted screen in front of it. I assume this will clear in a day or two.
-
Has anybody seen the movie Sing Street? It's kinda of like The Commitments for teenagers, Irish kids form a rock group.
The music is very true to the 1980s setting.

That's pretty cool, BK (not about your hearing, though).

I have to wear ear plugs when I usher for shows that are miked at all. So, my ears will be all plugged up for the B52s tomorrow night.
-
Well, I'm still at the theater, and Vanessa the stage manager and I have entered all the light and sound cues into the respective operating devices. She actually had to redo a lot of the light cues, though. It seemed like that the person who did them didn't know what she was doing, but she actually has designed lights for TAO here at The Midnight Sun for at least six other shows, so we couldn't figure out what happened.
-
Anyway, it wasn't that difficult, but Vanessa did have to get out the ladder and refocus a couple of the instruments. But now, it's mostly done. There is one picture left for the slides, and one or two sound cues, then it's done. Tomorrow will be the first full run-through, and the start of
hell tech week.
:D

My niece has hyperacusis (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperacusis). Ear plugs don't work. She can't even go to the movies or even some stores anymore. :-\

Page two? Really?

VIBES IT DOES!!!
-
Sorry about your niece, George. That must be really painful.
-
Just finished up Dekalog 4. If they keep up being this depressing, I may have to take a break.
-
Tonight's feature is a little lighter: French noir, Rififi.
-
Since we expect heavy rain tomorrow we took a long walk to the growers market and back today. I also did a short, but brisk, 45 minute walk this morning. In total I walked close to 10 miles today. I hope this means I have lost one of the pounds I recently gained. When I stepped on the scale this morning I was very glad I passed on the cheesecake yesterday :)
-
Sorry about your niece, George. That must be really painful.
At times, it can be very painful for her. She's learned to anticipate some situations, but of course horns honking or other sudden sounds coming out of nowhere can't be.
-
I have enough problems with my sensitivity to sound and it is nothing compared to that.
-
Back from a three-and-a-half mile jog, which I needed to do because I had some Wacky Noodles with chicken, although, that said, I only made two cups of pasta (four ounces - four hundred calories) and the equivalent of less than two chicken breasts.
-
Time for episode 3 of Poldark :)
-
Season 2
-
Keith popped corn.
-
Happy hair dreams, Jane.
-
I saw a Poldark DVD at the library today. I was hoping it was season two, but it was only season one.
-
Happy hair dreams, Jane.
Thanks 😄
-
I managed to get a couple of interesting books at the library today. A volume of poetry by Gerard Manley Hopkins and a couple of Russian novels printed together called The Way of a Pilgrim and The Pilgrim Continues His Way.
-
I saw a Poldark DVD at the library today. I was hoping it was season two, but it was only season one.
You will have to wait for the season to be completed.

Not always. Downton Abbey was released on DVD long before the season ended.
-
Good luck it is soon available. We are watching it on a Seattle PBS station.
-
Good evening!

Amazon says the second season will be released in the UK on Nov. 22.

Good evening, John.

Good evening, Jane.

Well, at least I am not alone.
-
What is POLDARK?
-
Nice photo, John.
-
Just one more post.
-
Four Finally
-
Poldark is a Masterpiece series that is based on a series of novels form way back.
-
BBC has done it before.
-
I forgot about THEM. That is a good film, but I don't think of it as sci-fi.
-
It features this man and his hair.

I mean is it a detective series, or is it a Downton ABBEY type show?
-
Or this hair.

-
I mean is it a detective series, or is it a Downton ABBEY type show?
Kinda of a period piece that mixes politics and swashbuckling and social commentary. In short, a literate soap opera.
-
It's set in the late 18th century. Never watched either.
-
With hair.
-
He is kind of Pol dark and handsome
-
One of the extras on Rififi is a half-hour interview from 2000 with Jules Dassin. It's great stuff. He's thoroughly charming.
-
elmore, what are you doing up this late?
-
Absolutely no action on the countdown to the close of Indiegogo. Too bad.
-
Did you sell that last musical quote from Mr. Sherman?
-
What song would you have Mr. Sherman quote?
-
Good night, all.
-
Was it something I said, John?
-
We needed some more favorite sci-fi titles.
-
There were a bundle of those movies in the 50's.
-
Today was not a good book writing day.
-
Or this hair.
I must watch this series
-
Still fighting this stupid cold
-
The cold is winning
-
It was like pulling teeth.
-
Tea with honey And lemon and a little whiskey has helped me sleep
-
But done little for the state of the house
-
Or my spirits
-
I hope you can rest up tomorrow.

Or this hair.

-
5ive
-
Is that a bad thing
-
It looks photo shopped to me. I think it is his head shopped on my body.
-
I don't doubt it fir a minute, you handsome devil, you
-
Sometimes I don't know where my head is going!
-
Have you had your honey and booze yet?
-
Is anyone in touch with former DR Edisaurus? I hope she is safe from the hurricane
-
I guess so, since it is after midnight there.
-
Are you staying home from church this morning?
-
Have you had your honey and booze yet?
I had some earlier but now I am awakr
-
Dear reader John took the last Sherman musical quote but there are still great perks left with three hours to go - we're at 122% and I would seriously like to get us to $4500, which would cover all the fees and the extra dough the sound package rental is costing. Puuuuuuush.
-
And brunch with Hayley tomorrow at noon o'clock.
-
And brunch with Hayley tomorrow at noon o'clock.
Is that perk available on Indiegogo?
-
As I was saying earlier, I think everything I wrote today is going to be deleted tomorrow.
-
In a short burst of productivity today I did make a cheap and cheerful imitation of Greek Lemon chicken soup
-
Don't delete until you've read it.
-
The real one uses egg yolks and cooking talent
-
Finished with my viewing, an all documentary day.
-
I found this recipe online and I had all the ingredients available
-
Amazon says the second season will be released in the UK on Nov. 22.
Keith noticed it can be streamed from Amazon for $1.99 an episode. I don'the know if you have to be a member. We are.

I will certainly read it tomorrow, before I decide what to do with it.

The two main women in the show are beautiful.

-
He is kind of Pol dark and handsome
These Poldark jokes have me laughing.
When we first see Poldark he is fighting in the Revolutionary War. When he returns home the economy is in a downturn due to the war and higher taxes and the Poldark aristocratic families are strugling.

I was surprised at how well it came out. In our old office building the cafeteria was run by an older Greek gentleman who occasionally made Greek lemon chicken soup. To my admittedly unrefined and cold challenged palate it tasted just as good. And it was very easy to make.

46 ounces seems like a strange amount of chicken broth

She is in Atlanta which I think is in the path of the hurricane

TCB, I have sometimes gone to bed hating what I've written, only to wake up the next morning, read it, and rather like it - I then finesse what I don't like and move on.

All right you late-night denizens, we have one hour left in the Indiegogo campaign. Let's take this home, baby - lots of perks left at EVERY level.

I think it's the size of a large can , I had a six pack of 32 oz containers do I estimated the amount
-
Maybe our lovely stalker would like to grab one of the perks. If so, I will personally send her a lovely personal note with whatever perk she chooses. :)
-
ok I must get some sleep goodnight
-
Sleep? What care I for tinsel and glamor and sleep?
-
I'm looking forward to Hayley.
-
And now - Dino at the piano.

Where in tarnation IS everyone? Don't we want to be here for the big final close of the campaign? I know I do.

Yup, a very attractive man and his very sexy hair.
;)
-
Hey George!
Hi, Tom!
-
I'm home.
-
After the tech work this afternoon, I got something to eat at McDonald's (I had a buy one, get anything of equal or lesser value for free coupon), then came home and worked on making some props for the show. I printed the covers and endcards for a Billie Holiday CD and an Ella Fitzgerald CD. They're just shown, so they don't need to be real CDs. I also printed some fake music charts for the same play.
-
TCB, I have sometimes gone to bed hating what I've written, only to wake up the next morning, read it, and rather like it - I then finesse what I don't like and move on.
But did you ever have a day where you felt you were forcing it, just to get words on the page? That is what today's writing felt like.
-
Now that that's all done, I need to go to sleep because rehearsal tomorrow is at 8-freaking-a.m. in the freakin' morning! :P
