Well, you've read the notes, the notes played on, and now it is time for you to post until the playing on cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: BEATIFIC!
-
First post after BK!

Listening to the Walton second symphony, which is, I have to say, one of my favorite symphonies ever. Wags consider it the weak sister of the first symphony - I like it better than the first. Oops. I love the first, too, but there's something about the second that just gets inside me. Fantastic music - many recordings - I uploaded two - the American premiere of the piece by George Szell and the Cleveland Symphony, and the much later done for CD on Chandos. I played the first minute of the Szell and then the same on the Chandos just to see which I wanted to hear - night and day - the Szell is superb sound, maybe one of the best sounding classical recordings I've ever heard. The Chandos tempos seem off to me, but it's the damn sound - the orchestra is about three blocks down the road and you get know detail at all and believe me you want the detail in Walton. This is amazing music I could listen to over and over again.
-
T.O.D.
What is your very favorite classical piece of music?
-
My favorite would have to be "The Warsaw Concerto" which ironically was originally a film score.
-
A close second would be "Rhapsody in Blue".
-
I certainly hope George is okay.
-
Hello, Tom. I'm fine. :)
-
I came home after going to my sister's to help her move her daughter's bed back into place (it's VERY heavy), then I had to do some work on my old computer and that got me looking at things and losing track of time. I then realized that I left my tablet at work (I HATE it when that happens :P ) and now I'm up in my bedroom on my new computer. :)
-
Hello, Tom. I'm fine. :)
Good! I am very glad to hear that.
-
While I was at my sister's, my niece asked if I would (also) help carry some boxes of her books up the stairs to her bedroom. She had several heavy boxes. Not was I was originally asked to do, but I helped moved the boxes.

So far, so good. I haven't been on it too much, but it does just about everything that I expect it to do. I just remembered that I still don't have Microsoft Office on it, yet. I was looking at some documents that I have on a thumb drive and one I wanted to look at is an Excel file...but I can't open it here.
-
It's kind of chilly here, too.
-
I copied it from my old computer, so there's no problem for me to look at it there, or even at work. I'll eventually get MS Office on the new computer.
-
I just noticed that today is (former) DR Jed's birthday! Happy Birthday to Jed!
-
Hello, Tom. I'm fine. :)
Good! I am very glad to hear that.
Thanks! And how are you this chilly evening?
Fairly well, thank you. I thought earlier that I might be getting sick, but now I think it is just old age.
-
Happy Birthday to former DR and still DS Jed.
-
It's kind of chilly here, too.
And what do you consider chilly?

Well, this is pretty cool:
Tacoma Little Theatre's 'Dracula' thoroughly engrossing (http://www.axs.com/tacoma-little-theatre-s-dracula-thoroughly-engrossing-108750).
Directed by the iconic pug Bujeaud, the cast puts forth uniformly excellent performances. There are no weak links in the chain, and the show has excellent continuity, as a result. A few performers stood out with particularly superb performances.
:D

Congratulations to pug and to old actor lunch member, Joe Grant.

Even if the reviewer didn't know what role Joe played in CABARET.
-
Well, George, I think it is bedtime for me.
-
Good night!
-
Good night, Tom.
-
27th after BK!
-
And that's at 5:20 EST. You have to be up pretty early in the morning to be 27th after BK!
-
More travel vibes to Jane!!
-
Is it really page 2?
-
First on page 2! (unless someone deletes something)
-
Good morning to all
-
Wednesday morning greetings! Today we're going to visit James and Dolley Madison at Montpelier, which is on the way to Richmond. That's where Richard's clergy meeting starts with a reception this evening.
-
Thanks to everyone who's sent travel vibes! In addition to all the HHW traveling, there's a lot going on among our family and Middletown friends. My sister and her husband are on their way to Florida, their daughter from Illinois is meeting them there, and Brian and Margie are touring NE Ohio.
Continued travel vibes for DR Jane & Keith and for DR ChasSmith!
-
Good morning, all!
-
My back is out of whack. I may spend a bit of the morning lying on a heating pad.
-
I had a really strange dream: I was in church - I was in a pool - I was in a church - I was in a pool with a number of my deceased relatives. We all had those savings club brochures my mother used in the 1950s for Christmas saving.
-
Back to the heating pad!
-
I've filled out most of the forms for tomorrow's meeting with Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts. I don't understand a couple of them, but we'll see how it goes.
-
I need some breakfast. And a masseur.
-
Why-if I didn't know better, I'd say it's morning!
-
Good morning, all.
-
I've been doing last minute chores since 7:30 in the a.m. and decided it's time for a coffee and bagel break.
-
I want to be out of here by 2:00 p.m. so I can get to Harrisburg, Bedford, or even as far as New Stanton, PA for the night. That should be doable. Tomorrow is definitely all rain, everywhere on the route, so I'll only have something like six hours -- and all day to do it in -- to drive through it.
-
BK sez:
Sitting here like so much fish listening to some William Walton music. This is three Williams in a row - Alwyn, Walton, and Wordsworth.
And look at all the damned W's! W's in every first and last name. W's everywhere!
I think there should be a BIG W to mark the spot on the shelf where all of these go!
-
Well, that's about it for me. I must get back to taking my leave.
Good vibes to all!
-
Where in the world is Jack Randall Earles?
-
Jack: I hope you're not incapacitated by illness.
-
No just late DR RLP. Thank you for the encouraging meme from yesterday.
-
Travel vibes for DR CHAS SMITH, DR GINNY & DH RICHARD, and DR JANE & KEITH.
Fun and photos!!!
-
DR GEORGE you are a good brother.

DR ELMORE the Dream-O-Matic 6000 says that your dream indicates you don't want to be overwhelmed by the holidays this year, but that they are already closing in on you. Stay light and do not feel compelled to celebrate except how and with whom you choose.

Amazing! Every tme I dream of my dead relatives, I worry that they are coming to take me with them.
-
I've filled out the forms for VLA that I have answers for, I've looked at "Luck Be A Lady" briefly, and I've finished four pages of a score involved with the Big Announcement. I'm still waiting on the release to announce it.
-
I'm up, I'm up - barely. Seven hours of sleep.
-
T.O.D.
What is your very favorite classical piece of music?
When I was going to Western Washington University, we did Carl Orff's "Carmina Burana." I love that whole score. I've listened to several versions over the years, but one of the first I listened to way back when was the James Levine/June Anderson version (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0015S70X6/). It's also become my absolute favorite. It was the very first CD that I ever owned...and I got it four years before I actually owned a CD player! ;D I had friends who made and audiotape copy for me.
Because I have Amazon Prime, I was able to stream and listen to this whole version (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0015S7040/) for free just a couple of days ago.
-
DR GEORGE you are a good brother.
I know. ;) But she's a good sister. :)
-
Well...

...since we're so close...

And speaking of Carmina Burana, I just got this version on DVD (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0001Z65PS/) from the library:

My question for ASK BK DAY:
Do you have a favorite album cover from your youth?
-
I loved album covers. Of the Broadway ones I was always entranced with the Subways are for Sleeping cover on the gatefold album. I also loved the cover of Bill Evans' album Conversations With Myself - in fact, I really loved almost all the Verve covers. RCA had some great covers back then, too. Soundtracks-wise, Summer and Smoke was gorgeous.
-
Just had the freakiest thing happen - my desktop folder with all my documents just disappeared right off the desktop - there one second, gone the next. I could find it in Spotlight and Recent Folders so I knew it was there, but I couldn't figure out how to get it back on the desktop. I Googled and I have to say it's happened to others and the responses to them on various help boards are so shockingly inept with not one person actually offering the simple solution that works. I called Apple and got some woman on the phone with laryngitis and not much knowledge so rather than waste my time I immediately asked for a senior tech. Once she was on the phone, she had me go to Finder, we found the folder and it was just a simple thing to drag it onto the desktop, so that was easy and hopefully it won't happen again. She then asked me to look at various things, and we found a PC listed in my list of things on this computer - she said she saw that just yesterday on someone else's computer, so we got rid of it, installed a malware search thing, searched and nothing untoward was on the computer, so she thinks it was just some weird glitch - but it's good we got rid of whatever that PC thing was and we also nuked a few programs in applications that I wasn't familiar with - stuff I may have downloaded at some point but never used.
-
Okay, my load of clothes is dry and I'm almost outta here.
-
LOVE album covers. Too many great ones to even think of right now.
-
BK: Whew! I sure am glad that story turned out well.
-
The Levine recording is, for my taste in conducting, right on top of the stack -- with the immortal Ormandy one right next to it. The third one I really like is Robert Shaw's for some really beautiful moments.
(The Chicago Symphony was in its Levine prime right then, and in addition to those soloists you have the incredible Margaret Hillis-directed chorus which was second to none.)
-
Okay, I'm hitting the road. Bye!!
-
One of my absolute favorite album covers is the original Broadway cast recording of Ain't Misbehavin' vinyl LP gatefold. The CD is just tooooooo small to really appreciate the detail of the illustration. It's beautiful!
-
More travel vibes, Chas!
-
Here (http://vinylalbumcovers.com/aint-misbehavin-original-broadway-cast-recording/) is a fixed up scan I found for the front cover:

I grew up with Eugene Ormandy's recording with Harve Presnell. It was a revelation in 1960, since hardly anyone knew it then.
-
I finished my chart, I'm happy to announce, I need a run to the market, then back to Guys & Dolls. The sooner we get through this round of fixes, the sooner we are paid for Act Two.
-
I need to purchase this again when the G&D money comes in.
-
I have the Ormandy Carmina - wonderful performance and Harve Presnell is always a plus.
-
Back from a sandwich and a few fries (and I mean I had a small side and only ate about a quarter of them).
-
Here we are in the northwest 'burbs of Richmond, VA! We had a nice tour of James Madison's Montpelier and a smooth drive into Richmond. We're settling into our room before the reception that starts in about half an hour.
-
When are you returning to Ohio, DR Ginny?
-
DR Elmore, we have to be in Centerville by 3pm Saturday for Richard's ukulele lesson and we'll be home after he's finished.

Is he going to do a guest shot in the Wright State NO NO NANETTE?

They are now tearing down the house next door to the house in back of me - so after enduring that horse crap for four months, we all get to endure it again - brilliant. There ought to be a law. The monstrosity they built in back of me sits unsold for the past six weeks. And I hope it remains unsold forever and I hope the same happens with whatever monstrosity they put up next to it. This is all ONE speculator paying people outrageous money for their homes so they can tear down and decimate this once wonderful and charming neighborhood, which they will then abandon.
-
Good afternoon, all.
-
Crazy busy day at work.
-
The Oreo Krispie Treats went over well. They disappeared.
-
My laptop decided to go haywire. I've got too much to do.
-
But now, all I want to do is think about album covers. On the 20th Century was a particular favorite.
-
Four!

I like that one, too.

Just heard a little of Herbert's Eileen. What a great recording, Elmore.

Thanks! I'm rather proud of it. Nice cover, too, I think. Ol' Victor up in the right hand corner!

Nice album covers from everyone.

Have gone through iTunes, cleaning up all this junk I've had on there forever - all the rough recordings of all the songs I've written for the last decade - who needs all that crap. Plus stuff I never listen to that I've uploaded at some point - over 1000 tracks I got rid of.
-
Listened to the amazing Ravel Valses Nobles and Sentimental. Whatever performance I uploaded isn't very well conducted. I have some long ago memory of loving a performance by Charles Munch - have to go see if that's available somewhere or even if I have it.
-

Is he going to do a guest shot in the Wright State NO NO NANETTE?
No, but his teacher has been coaching the cast for the big ukulele number. We're going to see the show on Richard's birthday.
-
Well, I must be off. I'm working concessions tonight for Ben Folds and A Piano (http://www.washingtoncenter.org/event/ben-folds-and-a-piano/)! I more than likely won't get to see the ENTIRE concert because we have to put things away when the show starts, then clean up after the intermission, but I'll get to see most of it and hear all of it. :)
Be back later!
-
I am not happy that it is so cold. Just 2 weeks ago i was wearing a t-shirt outside and it was hot. :(
-
Terrible wifi here at this otherwise lovely Days Inn (been here before and definitely like it).
So... in one post:
Horrible news, BK. These people need something ugly visited upon them, and soon.
Charles Munch recordings were always great in my book.
Oh hell. There was more, but I forget...

Eating pumpkin raisin cookies.
-
Got to my goal, New Stanton, PA. (Yay!!)
That leaves only five or six hours of driving tomorrow, with all day to do it.
-
Oh well. More tomorrow. Gute Nacht, alles.
-
Good evening!
-
George and I almost complete Page One for everybody, and you still only get us to page four??
-
Believe it or not, I don't have anything to talk about tonight.
-
No word back from Nicky's doctor.
-
Good evening, TCB.
-
Where's everybody been for hours?
-
I need to get to bed.
-
They should have gotten the results back today, but hard to know why they didn't call.
-
Very odd evening with two people fighting while I was trying to enjoy an excellent meal.
-
If I don't hear by the end of the day tomorrow I will call them.
-
THey were fighting over the way she was reacting to her father's impending death.

Not a jolly holiday.

Nicky ate his Renal food today without complaint.
-
Vet vibes for TCB's Nicky.
-
Five!
-
Good night, all.
-
Frankly, it doesn't smell that good, so I am glad the taste is okay.
-
I am not happy that it is so cold. Just 2 weeks ago i was wearing a t-shirt outside and it was hot. :(
Fortunately our fall weather has been fairly comfortable.
-
Hello, John!
-
Lithia Park, as always, is especially beautiful at this time of year. Keith put a sample photo on facebook if anyone wants to share it. We will be home tomorrow afternoon.
-
Good night, John.
-
Good evening, Jane.
-
Got another Finzi CD - now THIS is the Finzi I remember and love - gorgeous music - don't know how I missed it in the closet. Also have listened to more Holst - I do think his magnum opus is The Planets - but I enjoy some of the other stuff.
-
Eating pumpkin raisin cookies.
They sound super delish.

Continued travel vibes to DR Ginny and to DR Jane.

Back pain be gone vibes to DR elmore.
DITTO!
-
GD payment vibes to DR elmore.
-
Good news vibes for Nicky!
-
The other interesting thing about this Finzi CD - it has two pieces that were on the other one and I thought they were merely okay but I kept them to give them another listen at some point. Well, sometimes it's all in the sound and performance - the other CD's renditions of these two pieces are terrible - drawn out, each a minute to a minute-thirty longer and with that awful distant sound. Hearing this beautifully conducted and with the orchestral detail in full bloom - night and day, baby, night and day. I has spoken.
-
Good news vibes for Nicky!
Thank you.
-
Oh, and conductor on the good one is someone named Sir Adrian Boult, only one of the greatest conductors of the 20th century and someone who knew his English music better than just about anyone.
-
Time to change computers. My laptop is behaving badly tonight.
-
Better. Much better.
-
Greetings, 1 Guest!

What is your favorite candy bar?

Almost done with this page.

I'm home. I didn't get to see any of the first act, but I did get to see most of the second. It was just Ben Folds singing and playing a piano. He was very good and the audience loved him. I knew who he was, but I didn't really know any of his songs. I'll have to rectify that. I really enjoyed his concert. ;D
-
I don't think I have ever heard of him.
-
I never watched THE SING-OFF.
-
I don't think I have ever heard of him.
He was one of the judges (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1072886/reference) for The Sing-Off (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1565059/reference).
-
I never watched THE SINGOFF.
It was one of the talent shows, but for a cappella groups. They started with only 12 or so talented groups who pre-auditioned before the TV show portion of the competition starts, so the audience doesn't have to sit through bad groups.
-
I saw the previews, but it didn't really interest me.
-
Did he have a full house?
-
Did he have a full house?
Close to 800! The house holds 988 or so.
-
Not to shabby. Think how full the place would be if we did a concert there.
-
I'm watching the first episodeof the new TV version of "Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency" on BBC America and it's set in Seattle. That's pretty cool.
