TOD:  so many favorite performances.

As to recordings, I'd say The Trolley Song and Get Happy are the ones I most often seek out on YouTube, so they're probably my favorites.

A really really really fun performance of "That's Entertainment" by Judy Garland, and her attempt at telling a Borscht Belt joke at the end of the clip

The wizard of oz comes immediately to mind... It played every year around Thanksgiving and as we watched her open the door to Oz on our little black and white tv. My dad would describe how suddenly the movie would change to color!!!

This is a very interesting NY Times interview with Molly Ringwald, who is returning to the New York stage as Aurora in Terms of Endearment

Pretty aimless here, too.

Got plenty to do, but I had a restless last few hours of sleep peppered with extremely silly and annoying dreams, and I just feel like sitting in this here recliner getting a nice slow start on things.

I need to blow the last few days worth of leaves off the yard and driveway and into the woods as best possible.

This is a never-ending task.  And there are still tons of leaves on the trees.

Why don't you do what my neighbor's "lawn" service does: blow everything into all the neighbors' yards, especially right after they wash the cars.

Well, it's been a rather busy 3 months.  10 weeks of shows - 4 shows, Legally Blonde, Spring Awakening, Evita and School of Rock.   All were fine, but I won't be going anywhere near that drek that is Spring Awakening ever again.  I only MD'd School of Rock with high school kids and that was awesome.  Evita was also done by a high school, and they pulled it off quite well.  This will be the first week of being show-less and I'm really happy!!   The last weekend was challenging as I had some sort of stomach thing happening and had to conduct School of Rock with several bouts of nausea on Saturday night.  I don't recommend that to anyone.

So now I'm show-less for a few months.  Then in January it starts all over again.  I'm looking forward to Spring Break as I'll be heading to NYC to see shows, sights and people.  I have tickets to see Bette in Hello Dolly! and of course I'll see Sunset Blvd

The dogs are finally getting along.  In fact, I'm listening to them play on the patio as I write this.  I can't be happier.  It was touch and go for the first few months, but some puppy day camp has done wonders for both.

That's all for now.

DR Jeanne, did you see my answer to your psychic phenomena inquiry?

Yes, I did. Thanks for reminding me. (Half a brain at the moment due to lack of sleep.) My impression is that most of these are similar to yours, i.e., more of a vision that any sort of interaction.

When I lived in Old Town Alexandria there was sometimes a strange presence in the guest room on the third floor. (House was circa 1820.) No actual ghost sighting, but just a feeling that there was something there. I wasn't the only one who felt it. A painter I'd hired asked if the house had a ghost. He'd been alone in the house, working on the third floor. I'd never mentioned a ghost. I dealt with it by talking to the ghost/presence one day when I was alone in the house. I told it I wished it no ill will and that it was welcome to stay, but please not cause any problems. (No poltergeist, please!) We seemed to get along after that.

Thanks for your answer, Larry, and I'm always up for ghost stories.

And, no, I didn't mention it when I was selling the house. Many houses in that neighborhood have a reputation, but I'm sure the real estate agents avoid the topic.

I don't like shows (TV or movies) where the humor is supposed to come from someone who has everything go wrong and no one cares.  I don't remember the original book at all, so I don't know if it's anything like it.  That being said, Elijah Wood's character wasn't as downtrodden as others I've seen, and he had some non-depressing moments that made it more palatable.  Also if nothing else, the two lead actors are nice to look at. ;)

We watched the entire first episode which Keith regretted.  Until after we watched I didn't realize it was suppose to be funny.  I maybe laughed  few times.  It is very strange and I am fine with not seeing another episode.

I've accomplished a few things today, and I solved a modulation I was not happy with in my choral arrangement.  Unhappily, I made a lousy error in the Guys & Dolls percussion part for 25 bars of the Havana sequence that my collaborator Jason just caught.  It's embarrassing because it means h has to go back and clean up a mess I let pass.

The clocks and my watch are turned back, so I'm already on tomorrow's time schedule. In about an hour I wil give some thought to dinner.

We are also on tomorrow's time, but it's because we drove this morning to Evansville, Indiana, for Fr. Richard to participate in an ordination service.  The way I figure it, by tomorrow we'll have gained 2 hours but we'll lose one of them on our way home.

Had our stumble-through, then went to Du-Par's because I was craving their mac-and-cheese, which I had with a small Caesar.  The first thing we heard upon entering was "Cash only" - seems their system was down.  The second thing we heard was "no Diet Coke."  Two strikes.  And then there was the mac-and-cheese which was like soup.  Three strikes and you're out.

I need to get back in the habit of daily writing.

I was hoping I would get an update from friend, Betzy, on where the book is heading.

My mother and I ere invited to a luncheon to celebrate the grand opening of a new cancer treatment center today. My radiation oncologist and his team (they also treated my fathers thigh tumor and my mothers brain megliamona) are moving it o a beautiful new center .  It is wonderful place and it was very moving to see everyone again  and to share stories with others who have been treated or are being treated by my amazing Dr JohnAmes

That is very nice you both could be there for the event.  May you never have to go as a patient.

LOL!  I was just remembering in junior high school when we would get cast in the school play, we would all count the number of lines we had to see who had the most.

Well, I must be off.  I'm going to my parents' for dinner, then I have to leave to work concessions at 6:00 pm.  I forget what it's for, but since I signed up for concessions, it's not something that I specifically want to watch.  So, I'm bringing my Kindle to read during the show.

Be back later.

Well, I worked concessions for the Olympia Chamber Orchestra.  It sounded good from the lobby.  The other concessionaire and I did not go in to listen.  We both stayed out and read our books.  After intermission, we cleaned up, put things away, and left.  I went and got me something to eat and read some more.  Now I'm home. :)

I just watched this past Moday's episode of "The Odd Couple" and they previewed next week's episode.  It's going to be a Gary Marshall tribute episode.  Gary Marshall played the father of Oscar, who is played by Matthew Perry.  They're having special guests who were on some of the shows Gary Marshall created.  Cindy Williams and Penny Mrshall will be in the episode, and are interviewed for this clip from Entertainment Tonight:

I recorded "Star Wars: A New Hope" on TBS and on my 16:9 widescreen TV, the image fills the screen.  The problem is that the movie is supposed to be 2.20:1, meaning black bars on the top and bottom of my widescreen TV.  That means that even in a world with widescreen TVs, we STILL have to deal with modified images and full-frame movies.  That's just wrong!

I would be outraged if I knew what that meant.
