Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of Kritzerland at Sterling's 72, and now it is time for you to post until the 72 cows come home.

Dracula at Tacoma Little Theatre yesterday was very good.  It's pretty much the story that everyone knows, but it was really well done, and the house was pretty full. They had a simple set that was used effectively.

Another fav

Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas  which has three versions out there. The Judy Garland film version, The Frank Sinatra version and Hugh Martin's religious rewrite.

I have a quite a few recordings of it and two (Dorothy Loudon and Linda Eder) sing a verse that is rarely used:

Christmas future is far away
Chrtismas past is past
Christmas present is here today bring joy that will last

and has anyone ever recorded the original depressing lyrics?

Have yourself a merry little Christmas
It may be your last
Next year we may all be living in the past
Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Pop that champagne cork
Next year we may all be living in New York.

Today, I am meeting my friend Steve Young for lunch.  Steve was an undergrad when I was a grad student.  When he came to the Moonshine & Mistletoe reading in August, it was the first time I'd seen him in 42 years. So, around 10, I'll go to Staples and photocopy some blank music sheets, then hop a bus for 28th Street.

Yesterday I was going through some stuff, and was inspired to take out a recording I probably hadn't listened to in close to forty years:  The Six French Suites and Italian Concerto by one J.S. Bach, played by one Arthur Loesser.

Oh my lord, could that man play the pye-ano.

I feel so privileged to have known him at least as a teacher for a short time before his death.

I don't think he ever recorded for a mainstream label; this was done locally in Cleveland, and I'm thankful it sounds as decent as it does.  I'm going to record it to high-res digital, and will see about acquiring the few other such recordings of his that are out there.

Yesterday's inspiration was inspired, itself, by DR Elmore's mention of a harpist I had known (in passing -- I don't think we ever did anything together except probably play in a few orchestral pieces) as a student:  Lisa Wellbaum.

I found an article announcing her retirement from the Cleveland Orchestra in 2007, in which she reminisces about Alice Chalifoux, the orchestra's harpist I totally remember as a constant presence in my years there.

A wonderful trip down memory lane.

I am home, and an ordeal it was: something is wrong with the subways - a person was pushed onto the tracks, I just heard on the news - and the buses are screwed up.  I waited for over 25 minutes for a 104 bus, that usually runs every 10 minutes.  I got to Staples, made my copied, and I am home.

I did have a nice lunch with my friend Steve.

I've accomplished more than I thought today.

I'm going to bed early since I want to be up by 6:00.  I'd like to get to the polls by 8:00 or so at the latest, so I can head down to City Center by 10 or 10:30.

About half an hour before the ladies' meeting was to start, I gave in to my upset stomach and called to say I wouldn't be there.  I've lolled around all day and feel somewhat better, but not 100%.

I just finished watching the Jean-Pierre Ponnelle film from the 1970s of Carmina Burana, beautifully sung with fantastic designs out of Bosch and Breughel, a phantasmagoria of sexual imagery (huge green phallus of shrubbery in the Spring section) and some war raging between heaven and hell, with black devils, a campy angel who gets roasted in hell, and frolicking young men and women.  It was very interesting, and that amazing score is unbelievable in its sounds and imagery.

That could be a  nightmare.  But are they similar enough that if you start to recite the previous version that it won't ruin the current show that you're doing? ::)

I couldn't work on them tonight because the Seahawks were on Monday Night Football.

Robert, the lead actor, asked if I had seen any of the game and when I started to mention that the Taco Del Mar where I had dinner had the game on, he instantly told me NOT to tell him ANYTHING about the game or the score...not even who was ahead (the Seahawks)!  He was recording the game and wouldn't see it until after rehearsal.  He's a die-hard Seahawks fan!

And as much as I would love to stay up and read about it all as soon as it's posted, I need to go to bed early so that I can get up early to pick up some medications.  I went today (Monday), but their computers were having troubles and the wait was supposed to be more than an hour!  So, I figure if I get there early enough in the morning, and they're still having troubles, it at least won't be as bad as going at lunch time. :-\ We'll see.

Good night, all!
