Well, you've read the notes, the notes had audio and commentary, and now it is time for you to post until the commenting cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: SYMPHYSIS!
-
First post after BK!
-
First post after seeing Doctor Strange (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1211837/reference) in 3-D IMAX!
-
It was very good. The story made sense (in a superhero-type universe) and the special effects were incredible.
-
If you go, stay to the end of the credits. There are two extra scenes...one was right after the main end credits and the other is at the very end of the credits. And there is the obligatory Stan Lee cameo. It was good and a lot of fun.
-
BK, the pictures from THE BRAIN in your notes are wonderful!
-
And I love the videos, too!
-
First after George!
-
Today is a day off from work, so I get to do laundry. Later in the afternoon, I'm going to my parents' for our weekly family dinner, then I'll go to the Washington Center for the Performing Arts to work concessions for the latest Warren Miller movie, "Here, There & Everywhere (http://www.washingtoncenter.org/event/warren-millers-here-there-and-everywhere-2/).
It'll definitely be an evening. ;)

Thanks for the tip. We often leave before they are done. We won't see it in 3-D at the IMAX, just at the theater near us.
-
And now, to bed.
Have a good day, all.

Most Marvel movies have a scene after the end of the credits. Unless I specifically hear that there isn't one, I always stay to the very end of their movie credits.

I enjoyed reading about the making of the commentary.
-
I also enjoyed the photos.

I keep my tablet set to mute.
When you get a chance, you have to watch these. They're worth it!
-
Good night, Jane.
-
Good morning, all.
-
It's actually just after noon here. I have been enjoying a lazy morning of reading on the balcony, which overlooks the sea. A nice breeze is blowing. The sun is out but the balcony is covered.
-
There's a pleasant clatter of goats' bells faintly in the bag round mingled with a few bleats and some meows from the kittens.
-
Another friend of Carol's arrived last night for a few days. Clairy is from Greece and she's cooking lunch for us. Intoxicating aromas of garlic and plums cooking in honey and cognac are drifting up the stairs.
-
I'm digesting this morning's reading in Proust and trying not to fall back into that artificial society. But I'm too happy and lazy and unmotivated to do anything but post here.
-
Jane, Clairy owns a hotel on the island of Kos, which recently closed up shop for the season. She informed me that she has both the stray dogs and cats at her place spayed and neutered, so it's an idea whose time is coming.
Her own pet cat and dog were both strays who adopted her.

During the day when I am at my computer.

Good night, Jane.
'night George.

DR John, your day sounds lovely.
-
TCB, regarding your post from a couple of days ago. Have you ever thought of pulling an Elaine Stritch and having your lines on a try that rests across your wheelchair?
-
Well I am up
-
Two!
-
Good morning, all!
-
Nothing more to report at the moment.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Lovely photos and videos, and I love Boswell's "Send in the Clowns".
-
There's a pretty solid dream I had that refuses to let itself be remembered.
-
Good morning!
-
Nice videos and photos from yesterday and today, BK!
-
Looking forward to Tom Sawyer!
-
Glad to read that Huckleberry Finn is going to on the Tom Sawyer DVD.
-
Good morning from my desk
-
I've often wanted to do an audio commentary on the musicals that I conduct. Unfortunately, I'm not sure that certain people would find it funny. Probably something to do with your closest friends and a bottle of whisky while sitting on your couch.
-
Scrounging through the fridge for stuff to use up, I just made for myself an egg and chili and cheese and onion concoction.
You wouldn't call it an omelet, and indeed I didn't even try.
And yet it's more than a scramble. Actually, let's just say the form defies description. :)
The chili is some leftover Skyline from the other night, which - as I'd thought - is a fine one for adding to things like eggs.
So, it's not exactly worth any photographic evidence, but it's most satisfying!
-
More Guys & Dolls angst today. My colleague Jason is really good-natured about my panic attacks.
-
Good for Jason :)

DR Ginny is the Middletown that J.D. Vance described the same as the Middletown you know?
-
I'm up, I'm up. I'm sure I got a bit over eight hours of sleep.
-
I had that thing happen that hasn't happened in ages, where I'm dreaming and suddenly my calf muscle is spazzing out and then I wake and it IS spazzing out - this time repeatedly and painfully, first one leg, then the other. It would abate, I'd fall back asleep and literally have the same dream and the same thing happen - four times, both legs. I can barely walk but hopefully it will work itself out in the next couple of hours.
-
Friday (late) afternoon greetings! I was at the Holiday Bazaar venue from 10:30am-1:30pm and had a great time selling, visiting, and shopping. Of the 18 gift bags of caramel corn I'd taken in yesterday, there were only 3 left. I offered to make some more tonight, but we decided that we needed to sell some of the other donated foodstuffs, so I'm off the hook. I'm working the same hours tomorrow.

DR Ginny is the Middletown that J.D. Vance described the same as the Middletown you know?
DR Jane, I wasn't very far into it before I commented to Richard that J. D.'s Middletown reality and ours were entirely different. The more valid comparison would be between him and Rob, because they're about the same age. Rob was raised in a stable household by 2 professional parents and we all have the same last name. We saw that he got to school every day, except when he was sick of course, and we provided enrichment in the form of Scouts, travel, church, etc. The 2 guys attended the same high school, but Rob was clearly on a college-prep track that included taking classes at the Miami University campus during his senior year. To my recollection, he only saw his parents clash (mildly) once and that was traumatic enough. I'm not denying that many families like J. D.'s still exist here, but their circumstances are not Middletown's fault.
J. D. was the speaker at last night's Middletown Community Foundation annual meeting and will speak next Wednesday at Miami University in Oxford. Several of us are going to hear him then. His book is well-written, but he comes across as very impressed with his own accomplishments. He is not the only Middletonian to attend an elite east coast university - my friend Emilie graduated from Wellesley in the 1950's and Betty's daughter from the Yale School of Drama more recently.
I'm looking forward to discussing the book with my friends next Thursday evening.

DR Ginny, did you see the Wright State No No Nanette? Did you report on it and I missed it?
-
DR Vixmom, I'm glad to share my caramel corn recipe:
20 cups popped corn
2 sticks margarine
2 cups light brown sugar, lightly packed
1/2 cup light Karo syrup
1 tsp. salt
Pinch of Cream of Tartar
1 tsp. vanilla
Put the popped corn in a large roaster pan that you've greased with the wrappers from the margarine. In a medium saucepan, combine the margarine, brown sugar, Karo syrup, and salt. Carefully bring the syrup to a full boil and boil for 5 minutes, stirring constantly (it can burn easily). Remove from heat and stir in cream of tartar and vanilla (makes an interesting chemical reaction). Pour the caramel over the popped corn and stir. Bake in a 250o oven for 1 hour, stirring at 15-minute intervals. Cool completely, break apart, and store in airtight container.
Tips: I don't measure 20 cups of popcorn, but just fill up my turkey roasting pan. To time the baking, I set out 4 toothpicks and set the oven timer for 15 minutes; each time I stir I discard one of the toothpicks and set the timer for another 15 minutes. When I'm out of toothpicks, my hour is up. And wear an oven mitt when stirring, because that caramel is HOT and can burn your hands!

We're seeing it Sunday as part of Richard's 70th birthday celebration.

Get-better-quickly vibes for BK!

Page 2???? What??
-
BK - that happens to me all the time. Just point your toe as forward as you can and that will stop the spazzing. You may hurt for a bit until you walk on it, but that's the best way to stretch it out again
-
Hello, everyone.
-
I'm still here.
Haven't left.
-
I have little to report.

TOD:
Maybe DOC MARTIN.

Good weekend vibes to all.

I find it interesting they went to the same high school, or is there only one high school in Middletown? I am not surprised his Vance's Middletown is different than yours. I actually would have been more surprised if they were the same.
He wrote most of the book while he was in college and needed to be impressed with himself. As one who came from a dysfunctional family, though definitely in better circumstances, I could relate to his struggle.

Forward, not back? Interesting.

Maybe DOC MARTIN.
I was excited until I realized these are reruns and not the new season.
-
Yes, DR Jane, there's only one public high school in Middletown. There's also a Catholic high school that draws from Middletown and surrounding communities.
When Richard and I were out doing errands late this afternoon we drove down the block where J. D.'s grandparents lived. It's the neighborhood where Richard's family lived in the 1950's and '60's, but has deteriorated a lot since then. When Rob did a police ride-along as part of his paramedic training he learned that it's one of the high-crime parts of town now.
And the grocery store where J. D. worked when he was in high school? It was the go-to place when I needed to send Richard for something I needed for a cooking project in progress. He probably waited on us. The Dillman's chain closed and that building is now a dollar store.
-
Very interesting Ginny, thank you.
-
We are about to watch DESIGNATED SURVIVOR.
-
I just finished watching this. Its tonight's Paddy Considine film. 1984, Gays and Lesbians Support the Striking Welsh Miners, a true story, Timely, amazing, heartbreaking, funny. It was quite wonderful, and the cast is excellent. The leads are good and there are some wonderful cameos: Russell Tovey has a frightening and unsettling 5-minute turn as (I think) an AIDS victim out for one last party before he dies.
-
We are now watching A PLACE TO CALL HOME.
-
My computer is in the shop....so I have been E/T for a couple of days. It should return sometime on Monday.
Keep the home fries burning.
-
Good evening.
-
I was unable to get internet connection yesterday.
-

I am glad you could stop in for a short post 😊
-
Good evening!
-
Page 3? Oh dear.
-
I am not sure I can be much help.
-
My brain is living in Bedford Falls.
-
So I don't have much to talk about.
-
Today was another dry day.
-
But you could tell that the weather is getting ready to change.
-
The clouds have been rolling in this afternoon.
-
I didn't realize that today was Veteran's Day.
-
I mean I know that 11/11 Is Veteran's Day, but I was thinking that it was one of those holidays that was moved to a Monday to make a three-day weekend.
-
Actually that I a copout.
-
I don't think I even knew it was 11/11.
-
I have kind of moved into Bedford Falls.
-
But this is only a temporary condition.
-
Page four!
-
I am in that place where the lines are still being pushed into my memory.
-
Any moment (or day) they will click into place and I will be free again.
-
I mean I know that 11/11 Is Veteran's Day, but I was thinking that it was one of those holidays that was moved to a Monday to make a three-day weekend.
Or was it left alone because it was a Friday?
-
This is the worst part of acting.
-
I have kind of moved into Bedford Falls.
It is a nice place to be 😊
-
Freedom vibes for DR TCB!
-
'night
-
I love the part of creating a character.
-
But getting the written words to gel with that character I have created aren't always easy
-
At least, for better or worse, this will all gel by Monday evening.
-
Tomorrow we actually have rehearsal at the theater.
-
At 11:00 a.m.
-
Unfortunately we have to share the stage with the set(s) for THE WIZARD OF OZ.
-
From what I understand, part of the set will be transformed into our set, but I am not sure what that means.
-
Maybe the Emerald City will become Bedford Falls.
-
Oh well, it will all work itself out by Thanksgiving.
-
Well, it better come together the night before Thanksgiving since that is the night we preview.
-
Years ago, when it was decided that Thanksgiving weekend was a good time to unveil the holiday shows, they tried running dress rehearsals on Thanksgiving night.
-
First problem was finding casts that were willing to give up their after-dinner holiday evening for rehearsal.
-
But that was the least of the problems.
-
The big problem was getting a cast of overstuffed actors to actually act.
-
That was quickly decided to be a bad idea.
-
So, now we are dark the night before we open.
-
Back from dinner at the Newberry Park Islands (terrible) and then seeing a high school production of Pippin (terrible, but you just go with it - these kids, however, at least deserve a director who directs them).
-
Page four? Really?
-
REALLY?
-
I took an unexpected nap this evening.
-
Let's get some postin' goin' on, shall we?
-
I shifted from the living room to the bedroom to work on my lines and promptly fell asleep for a couple of hours.
-
Page 5
-
Listening to a composer I really like - Darius Milhaud (Mee-yo). His jazzy and wonderful piece Le Creation du Monde. My other favorites by him are the amazing Le Boeuf Sur Le Toit and Suite Provencale.
-
Page five? Really?
-
Let's get some postin' goin' on, shall we?
That is what I have been trying to do.
-
I guess I am finished on this computer.
-
I'm home.
-
From what I understand, part of the set will be transformed into our set, but I am not sure what that means.
Hmmm.
-
The big problem was getting a cast of overstuffed actors to actually act.
;D
-
I worked concessions for the annual Warren Miller movie, and usually it's been a total drunken madhouse, but over the last couple of years, the audiences have gotten a little mellower. I guess they're all growing up and don't want to be a drunken mess while watching a movie.
;)
-
My computer is in the shop....so I have been E/T for a couple of days. It should return sometime on Monday.
Keep the home fries burning.
~~~Computer Get Better Vibes for Jrand!!~~~
-
But you could tell that the weather is getting ready to change.
I actually just updated my weather app and it shows rain for the next several days.
-
I like rain. :)
-
I am in that place where the lines are still being pushed into my memory.
I'm not there yet. I'll be working on my 12 lines this weekend.
-
Twelve lines may not seem like a lot, but one of them is about a third of a page long! It's not as long as my "Office Supplies" monologue last year, but it's a close second.
-
I like rain. :)
I do too, but my scooter doesn't.
-
It's definitely going to be the difficult one. :P
-
But, I actually don't go back to rehearsal until Tuesday, so I've got time.
-
I know what you mean, George. Calling it one line is laughable.
-
I like rain. :)
I do too, but my scooter doesn't.
Ahh...that certainly is a consideration.
-
I keep forgetting that you open a week after we do.
-
I know what you mean, George. Calling it one line is laughable.
Yup. I have a little notebook where I write my cue lines on one page and my lines on the back. I have the one long monologue broken out onto four pages so that I can think of and learn it in chunks.
-
I keep forgetting that you open a week after we do.
But if we're ready enough, we might be able to have the whole Thanksgiving weekend off from rehearsal...so I'd better get cracking!
-
Good idea.
-
I have double check at rehearsal tomorrow. We were told we would have a student matinee on December 6, but nothing else has been said.
-
So, I get e-mails from FootlightRecords.com (formerly an actual record store in NYC, now the website is owned and operated by the owner of Original Cast Records), and in the e-mail I got today, the London cast recording of 1776 is now available! It doesn't say it until you put it in a cart, but it's a CD-R...which is not a horrible thing for a 40 year old recording being released on CD for the first time. I wonder if they just got a record and burned that, or if they were able to get the original master tapes and burn CDs from those.
Probably the former.
And as of this afternoon, I also haven't noticed it being mentioned on the cast recordings group on FB.
