Topic of the Day:  I'm going to my parents' house with the family.  I bought a cheesecake at Costco and my sister has some fruit toppings to go with the cheesecake.

TCB - I'd bet there will be nothing wrong for the audience with the show being around 80 minutes plus intermission, especially if the script tells the whole story clearly.

The things you can earn from actually reading the AOL news:  I never knew before that "Jingle Bells" was originally written to celebrate Thanksgiving rather than Christmas.

I have a lot of Heifetz on LP, and I'm pretty sure that Korngold is still on my shelf.  Looked up the Rozsa, and didn't recognize that original album.  Interesting.  Very interesting.  But I have now been to Amazon and ordered one of those $1.00 CDs with both pieces (plus some Waxman).  Yes sir, that's the way to start a Thanksgiving morning.  Order something!   :)

Just time to enjoy this cup of coffee, then I must get out of my comfy bathrobe and into some clothes and start helping with all that's to be done in the kitchen.  Extended family are coming over around noon and we'll eat a couple of hours later, but there's much to be done and those hours fly FAST, lemme tell you.  Actually, I probably don't have to tell you.  Right?  I didn't think so.

I slept well, and I had another night of really strange dreams.  Tonight's weirdest had something to do with an endless bus ride around Manhattan, a lady seated next to me reading secret documents about the Viet Nam War, and the Jacques Brel song "Les Bourgeois."

I have been in the basement with the laundry.  The last time I did the wash, I lost about six pairs of white cotton gloves I wear at night after moisturizing my hands.  I was hoping that someone found them and had left them on the laundry table.  I believe they have vanished for good and I need to order more.

Dinner with friends last night was wonderful. The company was great, the food divine. I had roast chicken with haricot verts, a salad with avocado and a host of fresh vegetables, an enormous cheese plate instead of dessert and a few appetizers that we all shared.

I bought a turkey breast and a pumpkin pie so we can have our own "leftovers " tomorrow and over the weekend  my brother and his wife and her family don't believe in pumpkin pie so there will be cherry and apple pie and chocolate pudding

The only holiday dessert I never could stand was mince pie.  My grandmother and Aunt Dorothy both made fantastic fruitcake.

And I always loved mince pie, even as a kid.  What I wonder is whether we ever had a "real" mincemeat pie.  I'd like to try one now to see what I think of it.  But a regular "mince" pie is fine, too.  That was one I'd get at House of Pies now and then.

I made a pumpkin pie yesterday. I made some tart shells with leftover crust. I'll spoon some lemon curd in them for folks who don't like pumpkin pie (Wae-Ling).

I'm trying, I'm really trying and I know the critics were falling all over themselves about how GREAT it was and it made a ton of money - but I am hating every second of The Jungle Book, a cookie-cutter, horribly written, NON live action movie (thus far there is one live action human in the film) so do NOT call it a live action remake, poorly cast and excruciatingly bad movie - everything you'd think it would be in today's world magnified ten times - hit me over the head from frame one - have bad narration (thirty years ago you would have been run out of the business for having narration in a film - now you HAVE to have it) - have a pompous, pretentious musical score to also hit you over the head - make everything a "lesson" for children, but not in a fun way - I just don't get movies today - at ALL.

Found a couple of fun DVDs yesterday at Half Price Books. One is a collection of clips from the Tonys. The other is a Best of Hullabaloo with a few Sherman Brothers music on it, including Sammy Davis Jr. doing Chim-Chim-Cheree. The Supremes, Dusty Springfield, Lola Falana, Jack Jones and Woody Allen are also featured. Don't know if Donna McKechnie or Michael Bennett are anywhere to be seen.

Today was a perfectly lovely Thanksgiving (of the two Thanksgivings I've had, this one was actually on Thanksgiving and just as good in its own different way as the pre Thanksgiving Thanksgiving).  It was perfectly delightful, perfect weather, b\great company, and a lovely day.  I hope you all had the same!

We both limited ourselves to side dishes we had brought from home and the smallest amount of turkey ... And we sat at the foot of the table while my SIL and her folks were at the head.... (The foot of the table was a card table added to the end to extend the length  and so we were able to graciously suggest that the better seats go to SIL and her folks)

Then as soon as we got home (after eating only the pie my mom brought as dessert and refusing those desserts provided by SIL and mom because we were "too full") we washed , brushed our teeth , popped some vitamin c tablets and sambucol

We remembered once we got home that last year was the first year we did not fall ill right after Thanksgiving... Last year we held a small thanksgiving dinner at my parents house just Vixdad, the Vixter, my folks  and dads aide, because dad was housebound

I am in Villa-Lobos heaven.  I forgot how incredible his music is and thankfully I had a beautiful two CD set of stereo recordings by Enrique Batiz of all the Bachianas Brasileiras - some truly gorgeous and very moving music, and the recording is mostly excellent in terms of sound.  But I also was happy to see I'd at some point got a huge box set from EMI of Villa-Lobos himself conducting all the Bachianas plus a ton of other stuff - on two three-CD sets - six CDs of this amazing music - I haven't listened to those yet but I recall the mono sound being really good.  And then I found yet another two-CD set of Christina Ortiz doing the five piano concertos.  I also had Stokowski conducting several pieces, and there's more, too, and eventually I'll pull it all out.  I also uploaded his wonderful Forest of the Amazon CD - that was his reworked music that he'd written for the film Green Mansions - they tossed much of the score and much was rearranged by Bronislau Kaper - I can't imagine the film not being helped by this wonderful music that got mutilated, but hearing it here was a real treat.  That recording was made in 1960 and Villa-Lobos died soon thereafter.  If you don't know his music (you probably know the very famous Bachianas Brasileiras 5, if not by name, certainly by tune.

Dinner with my family was good.  We had traditional foods (turkey) and some non-traditional foods (sesame chicken).  For desserts, we had pumpkin pie and cheesecake.  My sister had some cherry and peach preserves for toppings for the cheesecake that she got at a local cider mill.  I had the cherry preserves on my cheesecake and it was delish.  We played Phase 10 and my mom won, which is a rare occurrence. ;)

I actually don't remember.  I know my mom made some stuffed mushrooms, but I don't know what their main entree was.
