Well, you've read the notes, the notes sang great songs, and now it is time for you to post until the singing cows come home.

Christmas Eve I may go to church and then back home to finish wrapping packages and listening to holiday music.

Christmas Day is presents and dinner at my sister's house.

With that much sodium, it sounds like Jimmy Dean's.

The sodium was kind of high, too (1030 mg, 43% daily value), but it was 400 mg of cholesterol that was 133% daily value.

It actually was Atkins Farmhouse-Style Sausage Scramble (https://www.atkins.com/products/frozen-meals/breakfast-bowls/farmhouse-style-sausage-scramble).

We always go to my parents' house for Christmas Eve, and my sister's on Christmas Day in the afternoon.

Good, but not great.  I think if it had a cheesy sauce, it could've been better, but it's still too much cholesterol.  I'm trying to cut down.

JohnG - what a fascinating observation about the score vs. script of MERRILY as far as (if I have your point right) the lead character's output being represented by one number.

That leads to the question of how else the score could have brought it all together for the audience (most seeing the show just one time in the theatre) given the structure - which for some people would raise the question of whether the structure of the original play ever lent itself readily to a completely satisfying general-audience-pleasing musical, if the lead characters were to be songwriters.

From YESTERDAY

John G

If you listen to the score backwards (Forward in time) you can hear the evolution of the song Good Thing Going, which is the song/music I believe you were referring to. At some point in the story around the time (Forward time) of Franklin Shepard, INC he stops writing music gets into movies

Sondheim uses Good Thing Going thematically in his music in Act 1 which is then used fuller realized in Act 2.

It gets confusing.

If you have iTunes trying putting the score in reverse order and I think you will hear what I am trying to say.

I dreamed that I was working in an office of Frank Loesser Music, and one of my clerks, a pretty blonde, would not stop singing.  Her name was Betty Grable.  I encouraged her attempts to get into the theatre.

I saw "Merrily We Roll Along" in the second preview after the leading man was replaced, and it was dreadful.  There were many improvements by the last performance, which I saw, but I do not like the show, and I believe that if it had been by Cole Porter or Kern it would now be a footnote in their careers.  Because the Sondheim Cult cannot let a scrap of his writing go without becoming a holy relic, this dead horse of a show gets flogged over and over.  I enjoyed much of the Encores! version, but I think it's a mess of a show.

Thanks to ALL for the thoughts and vibes for Trent.

The surgery finally started at 8:30 p.m. - 12 1/2 hours after it was scheduled - the lungs did indeed miss the first flight....and then the second flight itself was delayed.....

Transplant was completed at 3:15 a.m. - then there was the closing up.....so he is still in recovery.  This process will be long, but we shall see.  A lung transplant does NOT cure the cystic fibrosis since the disease is still in the cells of the body, but it does make breathing easier and the quality of life is better.

I will be met by my mom and my Aunt Doris.  We will drive back to Johnston SC to begin, once again, our rituals of holiday dinners, lunches at the Edgefield Pool Room, shopping in North Augusta SC and Aiken SC, the placing of flowers on graves, and for multiple games of Skip-Bo.

Departure:  Dec. 12, 2016

I discovered a store in SA that sells loose Russian candies that you can buy by the bag. They all come in bright wrappers and are labeled in some unreadable, Cyrillic letters. (The exception is one simply labeled Vodka, which, I guess, transcends language barriers.) tGuessing what a candy will be is part of the fun.

I hadn't seen this outside of some of the stores in Little Odessa.

Blood pressure is under control.

Blood sugar is under control.

Heart beat is steady.

Some part of my meds robs me of energy most of the time.  I told my doctor yesterday that, on the rare occasion when I forget to take my morning pills regimen, I suddenly find myself possessed of energy I "used to have" in abundance.  Now that I know what causes it, I make extra sure I've taken my morning pills.

The doctor pointed to my "carvedilol" prescription and said "All the 'lols' can do that to you".

Back from a Chinese chicken salad and a bagel, and picking up a couple of packages, one of which contained the Bernstein cycle of Sibelius symphonies with the NY Phil.  Listening to them now and they're pretty great so far, with very nice remastered sound with incredible orchestral detail.  His performances tend to be on the fast side, but I like them and in terms of the first symphony I think I have to give Lenny the edge over Ormandy.  While I enjoyed the Berglund set, the sound is just not detailed like this and when I'm listening to great music I really want to HEAR it, and that includes all the orchestration detail.  That's why elmore likes me :)

But when I've finished with the Bernstein I will give the Berglund another listen, just to hear it again - it's a favorite of a lot of folks.

~~~Super Recovery Vibes for Trent!!~~~
Today's rain was totally annoying for walking around the city.  I took care of my business downtown in the morning.  The Metrocard service center was nicely staffed (with nice staff) and I was in and out of there in hardly more than twenty minutes.
But I then realized I did NOT want to spend several hours schlepping around in the rain before my film showing at 4:30 pm.  I'd originally planned to walk around, stop in Academy Records/CDs, get something to eat, maybe browse the Juilliard store, that kind of thing.  But at this point I didn't feel the need to do any of that, including eating, and I wondered if I could get into an earlier showing.
So I trained it straight to Lincoln Center -- very likely just missing DR Elmore at the box office! -- and the nice redhead replaced my 4:30 ticket with a 12:30 one.  There were all of a dozen people at that showing, so I guess that wasn't too inconvenient for them.
That got me out of there and on a 3:00 train back home, including grabbing a sandwich for the train.  Traffic looked absolutely miserable everywhere, and even my ten-minute drive home from the station felt like an hour.  But the film is well worth the trip, and the day goes into the success column in spite of less than optimal conditions.
As to the Metrocard itself...
Can we say:  WORST! PHOTO! EVER! ?
This is the temporary card.  The permanent one gets mailed, so let's hope they find a better picture of someone - anyone - in the meantime to print on it.
But great news, DR Elmore -- about the check AND the film showings continuing another week.  I'd be sorely tempted to go back myself, depending on how busy life gets, and it's about to start getting pretty busy for the month.
It's annoying that they don't list the entire run on their web site.  Maybe they really do plan some of this week by week based on demand, but another annoying thing they do is show just two days on the listings page, and you have to click to see more.  WTF?  Give us the damned information so we can make informed choices.
Then I bused down to Lincoln Center to buy the movie tickets for tomorrow night.  While I was waiting for the box office to open, I sat in the lobby, and the young man at the door and I chatted.  when I told him we wanted to see the movie tomorrow since it ended on Thursday, he checked the schedule and told me it was playing all next week.  They don't post the next week's schedule until Tuesdays.
So . . . I called Charlotte and we are going next week.  Other good news?  My check will be ready for pickup tomorrow.  Thank God.
Larry, good news about the movie, and congrats on the check!
Tonight's Paddy Considine film is a thriller, "Close your Eyes," and it's pretty creepy.  Last night i watch him in a revenge film, "Dead Man's Shoes," which reminded me of an updated Jacobean revenge-gorror play like "The Revenger's tragedy." Paddy plated a soldier returned to England who wreaks revenge on a group of skinheads who abused his mentally and physically handicapped younger brother. Iy was brutal and bleak, and it fulfilled all of my revenge fantasies on the psychopathic neighbor kid Frankie Cessna who blinded Randy in one eye when he was seven.
Been relaxing (sort of) and sitting on my couch like so much fish listening to the Daphnis and Chloe SACD, which was gorgeous.  I've been researching SACDs and what were and are the best, in pop and classical - and there are some incredible things out there that unfortunately go for huge money - would be fun to hear them, but not at those prices.  I gather SACD died a slow death as all niche stuff does, and unfortunately that was a decade ago.  Blu-ray audio, too, which I also know nothing about.  So, I'm afraid I'll never get to experience some interesting SACD titles.
Listening to the last of the Lenny Sibelius set, which also includes the Violin Concerto and several other pieces.  Hands down, thus far this is the set to own - great remastered sound, and while one may quibble with a tempo here and there, it's pretty great overall.
