Well, you've read the notes, the notes told other tales and changed dates, and now it is time for you to post until the changing cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: SEMELPAROUS!
-
And now - Dino at the piano.
-
First post after BK!
-
T.O.D.
I don't know what The Golden Age is.
For me, my favorite scores are:
BEN HUR
LARENCE OF ARABIA
-
George, the game should almost be over by the time your show starts.
-
George, the game should almost be over by the time your show starts.
Yes, but probably not before we have to be at the theater.
-
George the story of the coin jiggling usher is funny.
-
George the story of the coin jiggling usher is funny.
Now it is, but then...quite frustrating.
-
I am sure ;D
-
Well, I need to get to sleep. Good night, Jane.
-
good morning to all
-
Last night TCB asked who our favorite cartoon character is,,,.funny your should ask the theme of our churches chili contest this year is cartoons and I have been trying to think of a good cartoon for chili
-
TOD:
GONE WITH THE WIND
WUTHERING HEIGHTS
ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD
-
Good morning, all!
-
This weekend is much busier than I would prefer, since we have to finish up the work for Thursday's band rehearsal before. I hae several score that went to the copyist for corrections yesterday and a bit of proofreading. Yesterday, Joshie and I spent most of the day making sense of several Jimmy Durante numbers. "Wood" and "Data."
-
After three years of too much free time, I am not complaining, although it does screw up my socializing.
-
I have an hour before i must head to midtown.
Film scores:
Max Steiner: King Kong
Gone with the Wind
Rozsa: The Thief of Bagdad
Madame Bovary
Ben-Hur
Young: Around the world in 80 Days
Korngold: The Adventures of Robin Hood
-
Good morning, all.
-
I could not sleep with the mask on last night, despite the Benedryl. I feel like a zombie.
-
It's 25 degrees out there now. Thankfully, the sun is out in full force and feels warm. Even the cat felt warm.
-
George, I love the story about the coin jinglers. Thankfully, there haven't been any while I've been ushering.
My next ushering will be Pilobolus, which is a dance company. Any noise at all will be distracting.
-
TOD:
Laura
The Maltese Falcon
Mask of Dimitrios
Double Indemnity
Obviously, I like noir. I'm really looking forward to hearing Hermann's score for The Wrong Man, which I understand is excellent.
-
It is snowing in earnest
-
I have to go,out to church and set up for communion
So I guess I should head out sooner rather than later
-
Good morning, all.
-
I woke up at 7:30 and thought, well, just a tiny bit more sleep. Three hours later, I woke up and just about jumped out of bed. How in the HELL did that happen?
-
So, a leetle too much sleep. And I've got the crazy dreams to prove it.
-
But I guess I needed it.
-
It's snowing here, too. Looks like it just started about the time I was waking up. A very light snowfall, but we're definitely supposed to get a few inches over the day.
-
And since I typed "very light" it's picked up in intensity. Tiny flakes, but it's coming down, as vixmom said, in earnest. And I think we know how important that is.
-
I'm up, I'm up - maybe seven hours of sleep.
-
Morning. I had a migraine last nightime. Fortunately Tylenol eased it enough for me to finally sleep.
-
I have lots to do this morning before our storm arrives.
-
Now it's REALLY in earnest.
-
Saturday afternoon greetings! My early wake-ups yesterday and the day before have caught up with me and I'm very tired today. It's clear and sunny here in SW Ohio, but extremely cold.
-
GOOD WEATHER VIBES TO ALL OF US!
-
FIFTEEN degrees here with a bit of snow still predicted....but I think the bulk of it has moved on the the East Coast......
-
TOD:
Gone With The Wind
The Ten Commandments
The Carpetbaggers
The Heiress
Breakfast at Tiffany's
-
Some of those might be outside the "golden age...."
-
The snow looks really bad here in NYC, but Skip still decided to take Liam for an extended walk because Liam seems to enjoy the snow.
-
If I had a dog I would be out walking. I should be anyway but the wind is blowing hard causing it to feel like 18 degrees out there.
-
They came back a little early. They loved the snow, but the salt that was being putting out was too much for Liam's paws.
-
He needs doggie booties. It sounds like a lot of salt. Did you have trouble washing it off?
-
Back from a breakfast burrito, banking, and whatnot. Now I'll finish futzing and finessing and then I shall write new pages.
-
Good afternoon.
-
DR Kerry says hello and thanks everyone for the vibes.
-
His nurse said I can bring him some homemade food. So I am making yogurt and will make some turkey soup and Magic Bullet it.
-
Magic Bullet? Is that like tequila?
-
The temperature has risen to a right warm 41, but the breeze is gone, so it seems much better than yesterday.
-
At least I'm not sneezing.
-
Driving vibes for anyone out in the snow.
-
Should be 75 here in two days.
-
Starting to watch 10 Cloverfield Lane. Good beginning.
-
But I'm fading. I'll have to finish it after a much-needed nap.
-
Jane, the San Antonio Cocktail Conference starts in four days. Here are four variations on the Manhattan you might enjoy.

-
Wow. Those all sound good, even if I don't know what Averna, Amer Picon, and Punt e Mes are!
-
Snowing, snowing, snowing. No going out for the likes of me today at all. Which is fine.
-
DR Kerry says hello and thanks everyone for the vibes.
Nice :) I hope he is greatly improved.
-
Magic Bullet? Is that like tequila?
LOL. Also confused I googled it.

Thank you. I shall show this to Keith. Last night, the restaurant that makes great Manhattan's was off a bit. I thought it might have been the vermouth because I know Keith notices when the quality of the vermouth isn't great. He thought the bartender might have been heavy handed with the bitters. I still drank it all ;)
-
DR John is there anyway you can get the recipe for the incredible Old Fashioned I had? I would like to compare it to Craig's recipe. I should tell him about the trick to dissolve the sugar cube.
-
I'm home. It was a wet and slippery day, but Central Park was beautiful. The City always looks great in the snow.
-
I met my friends Kathy and John this afternoon for a smackerel, Today is her birthday and she and John flew in from Columbus. I last saw them around 2001. Kathy's sister Carolyn was my brother Macbeth's first wife, 1973-1984. She was in my summer produyion of The Apple Tree in 1978.
Now I'm ready to dry off and nap. Walking in the snow on a bad leg is really exhausting.
-

Same here. They should all have bourbon cherries, not maraschino.

-
These are really yummy in drinks though I would not get one in a Shirley Temple.

Would life be better for you if he had stayed married to his first wife?

They've come to Olympia a few times. They're one of the dance troups that people seem to either love or just not care for (I wouldn't say hate). I like them.
-
Jane - Skip picked Liam up and carried him over the heavy-salt areas.
He uses some goopy stuff called Musher's (?) on Liam's paws to deal with the salt; normally that's good enough.

I was wondering that also. Was he a Macbeth before the second wife?
(In my family, my brother's wife seems to have been the awful influence over my brother. I never saw any indication in my brother of the horrible behavior before his wife started exerting her influence.)

My mom actually gave me a Magic Bullet a couple of weeks ago...not specifically for Christmas. She just had one and didn't need it. I haven't used it, yet, though.
-
Finished futzing and finessing and then wrote four new pages. I have just introduced a new, major character, so that will be fun now. Hadley Miller and family came by so she could run her song for me - she's doing Tchaikovsky - she's actually a year younger than Melody Hollis was when we had her do it - but she's already got it down and I only had to correct about three pronunciations. It will be a lot of fun. So, now I'll take a little break, go pick up mail, and then in a bit try to write two or three more pages. That will leave me only three or four to do later. I won't be printing out today - I'll print out tomorrow and take Muse Margaret the pages around three. So she'll get around eighty pages, maybe a bit more. That's the most pages she's ever gotten of the beginning of a book, I think.

Lady M is his third wife! How can one even speculate how another's choice in spouse would affect his own life?

I wish I had known about Musher's though I don't think I have ever had to deal with the about of salt you do living in the city. We just cleaned the paws when we returned home. More often we had snow icicles to clean off the paws than salt.

Sorry about that DR FJL.

So, here are Kathy and I this afternoon at Langan's. I've known her since 1973 or so. She looks so much like her mother.
-
Hello, everyone.
-
Add me to the list of those who didn't sleep well.
-
Larry -
Well, if someone is a totally nice guy before marrying "Lady Macbeth," and became a "Macbeth" after marrying her, you can figure that more likely than not there's a connection.
-
I woke up yesterday feeling really good and thinking--HOPING--that this Thing was behind me. Today I woke up feeling sick. Ugh! It's still not bad, though. I nixed my exciting plans for a day of cleaning and laundry. I'm taking it easy instead.

Thanks, Jane.
It's been very disruptive to our family.

A shame.

Then I received a call that an old friend passed away. Sigh. He had SIX strokes last summer and I don't know how he held on as long as he did. As it happens, my last communication with him was the box of See's candy that I sent him for Christmas. I think there are worse ways to say goodbye. He could no longer speak, so we couldn't talk. He was still able to eat and I was told that he really enjoyed the See's.

Vibes for DR JEANNE!!! And sympathy on the loss of your friend.

That's a shame. I'm sorry to hear it. "Love" relationships can indeed have a huge effect--and not always positive.
-
Now I want a cocktail.
Tonight on HBO is the premiere of the documentary featuring Carrie and Debbie.....

Thanks, Jack. It seems to be a difficult day all around.
-
Good news from Kerry, though.
-
Jeanne - I'm so sorry to hear about your loss of your friend.
-
I was pleased to see TCB's post last night that his eye is more comfortable now. the procedure sounded awful! Tom, was it worse that the cataract surgery?
-
Wow. Those all sound good, even if I don't know what Averna, Amer Picon, and Punt e Mes are!
Various styles of Italian amari, or bitter liqueurs (as opposed to bitters).
-
Thank you, Fred.

DR John is there anyway you can get the recipe for the incredible Old Fashioned I had? I would like to compare it to Craig's recipe. I should tell him about the trick to dissolve the sugar cube.
I can message Chris from the bar. I think one of the differences, however, is that it was aged in an oak barrel for a few months.

How do I know my brother was ever a "nice guy"? I do think Lady M and he have enabled each other's ugliest traits, but I won't speculate beyond that. He's got hatred and resentments toward me that go back for some time.
-
Health vibes to all DRs!
Stay warm and well.
-
Continued recovery vibes to DR Ginny.
-
And to TCB.
-
Allergy vibes to John G.
-
My sympathies, DR Jeanne. I was thinking about having a See's candy (I got a box for Christmas). I will have one in his honor.
And I hope you're feeling better soon.

It wasn't long enough because I have so much to accomplish before Thursday's orchestra reading, but we had so much catching up to do. she and John now have three grandchildren and two married daughters, and I wanted to hear how my ex sister-in-law is doing. John gave me his impression of Lady M, since they have now crossed paths at several family events. We have similar views on her charm.

I'm fading. I shall try a bowl of soup.
TTFN.

I found an incredible deal on amazon for one of those lightweight Tommy Hilfiger coats that allow absolutely no cold in. It is likely the warmest coat I've ever found and it was marked down from $195 to $38 for one-day only. I shared the sale with a couple of people who didn't buy it on that day. Now that I've got the coat they want me to find it on sale for them.
-
I'm really enjoying 10 Cloverfield Lane. Very tense.

Tonight on HBO is the premiere of the documentary featuring Carrie and Debbie.....
I set my DVR to record it.
-
Now that credits have started rolling, I see that 10 Cloverfield Lane was co-written by the man who wrote and directed La La Land.
-
And a very nice score it had, too.
-
I've been watching the last of Kathy Griffin and Anderson Cooper's New Year's Eve broadcast. I can now delete it from my DVR.
-
And now, I need to go now. I have to shower, get dressed, do some shopping, get some food, then go to the theater. I know some tickets have sold, so there will be at least some people in the audince. I'm sure that we'll get some walk-up business, too. Then, it'll finally be done...then on to the next show!
Have a good rest of the day, all!

DR Jeanne, BEGONE VIBES FOR WHATEVER IT IS YOU CAN'T SHAKE!!!
And my condolences on the loss of your friend. I think See's candy was a nice way to say goodbye from afar.

I've done seven pages so far and I do have to take at least a two-hour break now, maybe three, then I'll try and do the other three or four. I do know where I'm going for the next five to ten pages so that's comforting.

That is a comfort they can see her charms, nothing worse than suffering from a person and others see it as being in your mind. My close friends, my brother, and Keith's family saw what my sister was doing to me. It was very hard to deal with those that believed her lies. When she was up she could charm anyone and they loved her, that is until she turned on them :(

What did you buy?
I found a couple of heavy men's down jackets.
I see a women's jacket but it doesn't say it is that warm. It is cute though & has a hood. I need the warmest coat possible with a hood.
"This is the puffer that's light on bulk with a slim fill that works best on those in-between days."
There are some nice tailored jackets. With the heavy layers I were tailored won't do-lol
-
DR John, my compliments on the great deal you got for the coat.

Richard and I just came from dinner at The Spinning Fork, an Italian restaurant here in town that we like a lot. I only wore my glasses to read the menu and he kept saying, "Are you sure you're my wife?"

;D The freedom of not wearing glasses is wonderful. I am currently enjoying it with these new contacts, yet I wish they were more comfortable.

The bourbon? I don't remember, or never knew, what was used.
The whole Cocktail except for the sugar cube part.

I am fascinated by this and would like to read about it.

Here's what I bought. I don't know if there's a woman's version or one with a hood. I have a knit cap I wear instead of the hood.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01L08YRCC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Thanks. I wear a hat, a pull up hood from a sweatshirt, then the jacket hood if I have one, and a scarf wrapped around me. I am out in the cold a LONG time.

I saved the info and will explore more tomorrow.

Richard and I just came from dinner at The Spinning Fork, an Italian restaurant here in town that we like a lot. I only wore my glasses to read the menu and he kept saying, "Are you sure you're my wife?"
Ha!
We laughed when I realized that I couldn't read my own watch, but I could read his across the table!

I will have to have reading glasses that are more comfortable than these $10 ones from Target.

That is a nice jacket DR JOHN G.
Performance vibes for DR GEORGE.
I enjoyed the BRIGHT LIGHTS documentary.....but circumstances made it difficult to watch.....

Doing genealogy tonight Keith found a couple of cousins that live in San Antonio. If only he had found them last month-lol

This pair I have works for reading and knitting, but I discovered pretty quick that they're not great for the computer. I will talk to Dr. Meier about how to address that issue when I see him next Friday.

Watched about half of Fritz Lang's Western Union on Blu and Ray and will finish it up tomorrow. Now back to writing.

The Vixter and Vixdad bought me one of these for Christmas a number of years ago it came in a buy one get one free special. And I had the spare one , still new in its box in the basement all these years. I gave it to the Vixter when she moved to Florida and she was so happy she used mine all the time

I remember laughing hysterically when I first heard Laurie Anderson's "Walk the Dog" back in 1981. Her voice, her music and her storytelling have hypnotized me ever since. I can understand that she's not for everyone, but if you enjoy her work, check out Heart of a Dog, a movie/meditation on life and death and what happens in between. She has an odd, highly personal take on 9/11 as well as some humorous takes on her dog learning to play the piano and taking up painting, all of which somehow morph into a loose tribute to her late husband, Lou Reed.

Six!

I added a picture of myself and my front yard to the HHW photo bucket but my iPad is being noncooperative and I haven't been able to share them here
-
Jeanne I am so sorry about the loss of your friend
-
I went out and ran some errands including setting up communion for tomorrow's 9 am service and today's 5 pm service
-
Today's service was cancelled due to the snow. It's is still snowing about 8 inches so far
-
I am watching a movie on cable called "match" which stars Sir Patrick Stewart as a bit of an A** choreographer. It is so odd to hear him speaking with an American accent
-
I spent a couple of hours shoveling snow. Vixdad was out and I am afraid of the snowblower
-
It was an unusual snow , not our usual heavy stuff, more light and powdery which made it easier to push
-
I pureed some turkey soup. It tastes good but looks awfully unappetizing. I also cooked a couple of apples into applesauce. The yogurt is in the oven to do its thing, whatever its thing is.
-
But with it coming down constantly I never was able to get it clear, but I am very glad I did it nonetheless as it will make clearing awAy tomorrow easier

Out senior pastor who lives a few blocks from the church is in Phoenix at a seminar , the associate Pastor lives about 30 miles from here , she called me to say she was considering cancelling and to let me know that I didn't have to go to church to set up ( I had already done it hours earlier though)
-
At this point the roads had not been well plowed and since most of the Saturday night attendees are senior citizens I encouraged her decision to cancel
-
We were able to skype with the Vixter tonight. She was saying the weather was cold, it had dropped down to the thirties.
-
I took the iPad to the front door and showed her the outside
-
She and Charles quickly decided that they liked the weather in Orlando just fine
-
Continued vibes for our Kerry

Watching a college musical with Bing Crosby and Jackie Oakie. Some interesting musical numbers, but the movie is fairly lousy.
-
Just heard from my friend, Bob. He's got to take 23 pills a day because of his Parkinson's. Apparently the side effects are making him tired, but he's working himself in a state. And his wife may be leaving him -- more likely over the work, not the disease.
-
I seem to be jumping all over the place, but has anybody ever heard of Montgomery Pie. It's apparently a Pennsylvania Dutch treat.
-
Eight inches!?
We were in the 3" to 5" and then the 4" to 8" forecast area, but what it looked like tonight was we got three, maybe four.
I'll find out when I go out to start the snowblower tomorrow morning...
-
Bing has crooned his last notes and I'm off to bed.
Good night, all.
-
Page six? Really?
-
I wrote another few pages - twelve so far. That's probably it for this evening, although I'll take a shower in a bit and if I get any good ideas I suppose I could write another page or two.
-
Jane, who are the cousins?
I don'the remember. One is a neurologist.

The Cocktail Dudes have something on barrel-aged old-fashioneds.
http://cocktaildudes.com/recipe/barrel-aged-old-fashioned/
This is interesting, thank you. I wonder what the bottled old fashioned tastes like. I will have to send the link to Craig. My drink did not have the sugar pre-mixed into it. The waitress said a little soda water dissolved the sugar.
-

If I am ever in the hospital on a restrictive diet I want you to cook for me.

I hope Bob and his wife can sort out their problems.
I have a fear of my life depending on swallowing pills. I am better at it, however, I need most pills to come in capsules.
-
I seem to be jumping all over the place, but has anybody ever heard of Montgomery Pie. It's apparently a Pennsylvania Dutch treat.
Having lived in Bucks County, PA I have had many Pennsylvania Dutch treats I purchased at a local flea market. Shoo Fly pie came to mind. It is very rich and I would buy one little piece at a time. I looked up Montgomery pie and believe I have tried it. It is also made with mollasses. I recall finding it rather bland.
Another treat was sweet potato pie, or what I preferred the sweet potato loaf bread.

Where are George and TCB tonight?
-
Well it's after 2 on tomorrow so I guess it's time to sleep
-
Page seven? Really?
-
Really
-
And truly
-
Took a hot shower - came up with one great thing that will work wonderfully - just a short thing - I went back and set it up, then at the end of this chapter it will be discussed. I broke up the chapter I was in because it was already going on twenty-eight pages and if I hadn't broken it up it could have ended up at forty pages - so I'm on chapter four. This book will not have a huge number of chapters - I'm feeling maybe ten right now.
-
Listening to some Wagner. I'm shamefully ignorant of Wagner, and while I don't want to really delve into the operas, the instrumental interludes are incredible. I got a box set of stereo Stokowski CDs (from 1954 to 1975) - and the instrumental Wagner excerpts are kind of stunning.
-
Good evening!
-
Last night TCB asked who our favorite cartoon character is,,,.funny your should ask the theme of our churches chili contest this year is cartoons and I have been trying to think of a good cartoon for chili
Perhaps the roadrunner would be a wise choice for the chili.
-
It is snowing in earnest
When did you move to Earnest?
-
I was pleased to see TCB's post last night that his eye is more comfortable now. the procedure sounded awful! Tom, was it worse that the cataract surgery?
I was pretty much out of it during the cataract surgery, so I don't really remember it. This procedure was done with me sitting in my chair. Of course, my eye was numbed, so it didn't hurt. There was very minimal discomfort the first afternoon and evening.
-
Also, the first couple post-op eye drops were a bit uncomfortable for a few seconds. I suppose that is jus a part of the healing.
-
Certainly nothing about the procedure has made me apprehensive about the next eye.
-
Gratuitous post #200!
-
Hi, Tom!
-
Page 7! I guess I've got a lot of ketchuping to do.

Performance vibes for DR GEORGE.
Thanks, Jrand! We had a really good show tonight (mostly...I did goober one of my lines a bit, but not horribly) and a great audience! They loved it. It wasn't filled, but pretty full. It was a great last performance.
-
I enjoyed the BRIGHT LIGHTS documentary.....but circumstances made it difficult to watch.....
Tonight when I go to bed, I'm going to set my DVD burner to record it from my DVR, and make a DVD for a couple of friends, but I'll watch the hi-def broadcast on my DVR later.
-
Hi, George.
-
I'm glad the show went well.
-
I'm sure that no one in the audience knew that you goobered the line.
-

So, here are Kathy and I this afternoon at Langan's. I've known her since 1973 or so. She looks so much like her mother.
Great photo, Larry.

Great photo, Vixmom.
