And the word of the day is: FARD!

So, last night, I worked coatcheck for the Governor's Inaugural Ball, and I took these pictures of the ice sculptures, but nothing else. Here's the first picture. This was in front of one of the food stations:

Here's the next ice sculpture display:

This was beautiful up close.

And at the entrance to the area where we were:

And finally, here's a close-up of the ice sculpture:

But I shan't.

VIBES for success and enjoyment at today's reading, DR Elmore!
-
Today is our first orchestra reading of the orchestrations done so far for The New Yorkers. We'll have 27 or 28 in today's orchestra. I hope that it all goes well.
-
Before I go, I hope to finish the chart for "I Happen To Like New York," so that I can take it with me.

Orchestra reading vibes for DR ELMORE.

I don't know what that ice sculpture is DR TCB....what izzit?

There was a discussion of MR BK's cd's in the last few months, and the Buddy SWING cd was mentioned, so I got a used copy on Amazon.
It is most excellent, and I am glad to have it.
-
Since most of politics seems to be like a horrible, B movie nowadays, it's hard for me to choose one.....hmmmmmmmmmm.....I like those already mentioned......
I liked the latest LINCOLN.....

DR George, I'm glad you enjoyed the evening. I never imagined anyone would check a purse.
I like that you had time to walk around as a guest and take photos to share. Ice sculptures are fun to look at, thanks.
-
Great photos, George. I once interviewed an ice sculptor. Fascinating world.

It looks to be an artsy-fartsy vase.
Then again, WHAT IS IT?

I have not done any farding today.

Vibes for Elmore.

I'm up, I'm up - just under eight hours of sleep. It rained all evening and is raining now. Funnily, after all the bitching and moaning about the endless drought, I have not read one thing about how helpful and nice it is that we've had rain like this on and off for the last month.
-
I'm back and feeling just a tad mighty. It's a start.

Thursday afternoon greetings! I am still in my robe and slippers but have gotten a great start getting Christmas decorations put away.

I don't know what it was in front of, because I'm not a fan of seafood, but the sculpture is of a geoduck (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geoduck) (pronounced "GOO-ee-DUCK")!

DR Elmore, is Russ Rizner playing French horn in the New Yorkers orchestra?

Thinking it might be an odd shaped shrimp next to the shrimp wasn't such a bad guess. Maybe the food station was clams instead ;)

There is no French horn in the orchestra.

Geoducks feature prominently in Betty MacDonald's The Egg and I.

And I am home from the reading. Everyone seemed pleased. I have some things to redo and/or reconsider, but I wasn't fired, and I actually liked a few things I had written.
-
Back from a semi-horrid lunch at Du-Par's because when it rains the entirety of Studio City HAS to go to Jerry's - at 11:50 - unbelievable and not helped by the completely full parking lot thanks to a film crew taking the entirety of the bowling alley lot. I probably could have gotten into Jerry's had I actually been able to park.
The little Caesar salad at Du-par's is very consistently good. The mac-and-cheese must be their comedy entree. It is completely different every time I have it - but today was the first time the noodles were not actually macaroni noodles but KRAFT0-shaped noodles, which I have no doubt they were. It was so thin and disgusting I could have swum in it. Mac and cheese should not be thin. I ate less than half of it.
-
Prior to that, I futzed and finessed quite a bit and wrote two new pages.
-
And now I shall write more pages.
-
And hopefully finish the current chapter.
-
Hello, everyone.
-
Congrats to Larry on the successful reading.
-
Welcome home to DR Kerry!
So glad you're doing better!
-
Still amazed at how quickly BK writes.
-
It POURED here last night. The rain woke me about 2:30 and I had trouble going back to sleep. I had a hair appointment this morning and came straight home. I now just want to sleep.
The rain is abating, which is a good thing, because many of the streets are flooding. We need a break from it.
-
Bruce, the snowpack in the Sierras is now close to normal as a result of the rain. That's the leading indicator of how we're doing droughtwise.

Thursday afternoon greetings! I am still in my robe and slippers but have gotten a great start getting Christmas decorations put away.
1. Thank goodness I was in the mood to do this the day after Christmas in SC.
2. Thank goodness (2) I did not have any to take down/put away when I returned to CA.
-
Continued vibes of health and strength to DR Ron.
-
Very glad to hear DR Elmore didn't get tarred and feathered. :)
CONGRATULATIONS ON A SUCCESSFUL ORCHESTRA READING!!!
-
I've written about six-and-a-half pages so far, finished the current chapter, and written the beginning of the next. So, four-and-a-half pages to go, which I'll get back to in a while after I take a little break. I believe by the end of this evening I will be more than halfway through the book, which is pretty good for twelve days.
-
Me, what did I accomplish today?
Well, I got three out of six Little Mermaid audition song excerpts recorded. Went to the store for a few things. And I shall spend the evening watching a thing or two.
That's not much to write home about.
-
And I am home from the reading. Everyone seemed pleased. I have some things to redo and/or reconsider, but I wasn't fired, and I actually liked a few things I had written.
Of course you weren't fired. But I'm really pleased to read that you liked some of your work. I have to have a great distance before I can do that.

Hats off to your success DR ELMORE.

Of course you weren't fired. But I'm really pleased to read that you liked some of your work. I have to have a great distance before I can do that.
I will be pleased if I like at least 50-60% of what I've written by the time we open. I hope I do better than that, but there's much work to be done before the Feb, 23 band rehearsal. I'm not sure what number I'm getting next. That's for Rob to decide.
-
Hats off to your success DR ELMORE.
Thank you, one and all! I'm not sure I'd call it a success, but it went well. I liked several things enormously, know which ones need some work, and I'm focusing on those situations.

DR Jane if you don't have snow boots then what do you wear all winter? As soon as it starts to snow here in December I move to winter boots until at least March/April.
-
Nice photos, DR George!
Thanks, KevinH!

#100!

It sounds daunting, DR Elmore. I am in awe of anyone who can pull this off. I love orchestration, but I couldn't put two notes together.

This is the first time we have needed them since moving here. I am hoping we can get out and walk tomorrow, if we want to. The temperatures are dropping. Keith dropped me off at the clubhouse and went to his gym. I used the treadmill, weights, and the bike. It felt really good to move. I carefully walked home using the road inside the complex (no one drives fast, not that a car passed me) and it was fine.
-
Keith put a photo of our sunset on facebook. One of these days I will learn how to size my photos to fit here.

Break's over. Now I'll try to do two to three more pages.

Bruce you wrote a nice tribute to Buddy.

Jane, if you upload your pictures to Photobucket, they should automatically resize so that you don't have to. :)
-
I know but it is such a pain to use ;D
-
DR Jennifer, I usually wear tennis shoes for my long walks and even hikes. If I really have to I wear hiking boots but the ones I have now are a low cut.
-
For the 3rd day in a row schools will be closed here :o

So you just wear regular shoes all winter? That seems crazy to me. You live in a winter climate. What happened to the boots that you had last year?
-
I know but it is such a pain to use ;D
Ahh...that is a consideration.
-
DR Jennifer, I usually wear tennis shoes for my long walks and even hikes. If I really have to I wear hiking boots but the ones I have now are a low cut.
Wow here we wear snow boots all winter regardless of whether it is warm or cold. It has been in the high 30s and rainy. But that makes it icy in places. I would never wear any type of shoes outside now. Good luck.
-
I don't think they ever close schools here due to weather.
-
I never needed any last year. I had them the year before in Ashland but they were slippery so I just wore my regular, ankle, waterproof hiking boots. I have some old Mephesto regular shoes, also waterproof, I wear when we go out and I don't want to wear tennis shoes.
I stopped trekking through the fields and if the road was bad I put plastic bags on my feet before putting the shoes on and then pants over them to keep the snow out. My traction and balance were better.
-
I know it seems strange but it is very difficult for me to find comfortable shoes. I didn't want to spend the money on ill fitting boots again, especially when I could usually do without them.
-
I don't think they ever close schools here due to weather.
In the two years we lived in Massachusetts it took a mega storm for them to close school. When we moved away I was shocked to find school closed for less snow, and the children did not wear snow clothes to school.
-
Bruce you wrote a nice tribute to Buddy.
Thank you dear Jane.
-
I've written ten-and-a-half pages, another half page to go. I could have done that as I'm in a section wherein I know what's going on, but I wanted to save it for post shower later tonight in case I get any good ideas and get inspired, in which case I could maybe write an extra page or two and be ahead for tomorrow, which would be nice as I'm going to lose most of the morning and the early afternoon doing the LACC video. Tonight doesn't feel like a movie night so I'll probably make it a movie night. I think I'll go out and get some cashews or some such food.
-

Here they won't even let the kids go out to play unless they are wearing snowpants. My nieces look like they are going to the arctic even on mild days.
-
I think I have to get Apple on the phone again tomorrow - almost had another freeze before it thankfully righted itself (thank goodness I hit "save" every five seconds when I'm writing), and then it did this weird thing that used to happen a few years ago, where I could not actually click anywhere without some weird window with options coming up. I finally went to shut down and then it was fine before I did so. This is not how a perfectly running machine works and this is way too new for this to be happening so often.
-
Listening to the expanded Jurassic Park soundtrack. I'm not that fond of the film, but parts of the score are really wonderful.
-
It sounds daunting, DR Elmore. I am in awe of anyone who can pull this off. I love orchestration, but I couldn't put two notes together.
I could. And they'd both be wrong!
-
Jane, I thought of you tonight. One of the cocktails was a Black Manhattan: Russels Reserve 10-year Bourbon, Averna, Angosturra Bitters and the right kind of cherry.
There were some other lovelies, too. You'd have hated one of my favorites because of the Frangelico, but it was called a Grimsby's Coffee and had Forty Creek Barrel Whiskey, Grand Marnier, Frangelico and cold brew coffee in it. I also liked the Chai Barrel with Jack Daniels Single Barrel Whiskey, Chai tea-infused vermouth and Angosturra Bitters.
-
Page five? Really?
-
I've written twelve pages today - will shortly take a shower and perhaps go for one more to get a jump on the 'morrow. Have been listening to Ravel.

I remember the kindergarten teacher putting on her snow clothes to go outside with the class.

Good evening!

I was going to keep everyone guessing about the ice sculpture, but I guess George answered the question for you.

I had a nice lunch today with two former co-workers

I had a very large taco salad.

They could have kept one whole head of lettuce, and still had too much salad.

But it was tasty.

I had a very large taco salad.
That sounds good.

Welcome back, DR Kerry!

Congratulations to Elmore on a successful orchestra read-through.

Another cold night h Tacoma.

It's 24°F right now. The low (according to the app on my phone) is expected to be only 23°.

Low expected at about twenty degrees.
