Well, you've read the notes, the notes did behave, and now it is time for you to post until the behaving cows come home.

Yesterday, TCB asked about the SAG Awards:  "So, they were broadcast at 5:00 p.m.?"

Yes, they were broadcast live, then instantly repeated at 7:00 pm.

I remember posting fairly extensively about the coffee shops in my life, and I'd happily copy and paste it if I had the patience to look for it because I doubt I could do better now without seriously starting from scratch.  So, a general comment:

It's not just a coffee drinking thing, DR George.  If I'm not mistaken, BK isn't a coffee drinker, either.  A coffee shop is a place that's "always there" for any number of sit-down but informal food and drink needs at all, or most, hours.  In NY-NJ-CT we have diners.  L.A. has a rich history of independent or small chain coffee shops, similar in many ways to those.  If you live in an area with only national chains, it could be a Denny's.  They're perfect for going it alone or as a gathering place.  A deli like this might stretch the concept very slightly, but I think Jerry's serves this purpose for BK.

I said "always there".  They've been written about as an example of the "third place", or a place one frequently gravitates to apart from work and home.  However you choose to think of them, it's something I grew to love at an early age.

And I am home.  The omens for today are not good.  I left at 7:45; the 104 bus was late and when it arrived, so did the bus that was on time.  I just missed my transfer to the No 5 bus, and the next was due at 8:13.  It arrived around 8:23.  At that point I realized I'd never make it to the barber on time, so I called and moved my appointment to tomorrow.  I am thoroughly pissed over the NYC transportation problems today.  Around 9:30, I'll had back to the 104 bus to get to City Center aroud 10.

I am excited to see the cover.

I enjoyed the covers posted by DR JOHN G yesterday, particularly the first one.....She Tried To Be Good.....

His story about his school reminds me of the story my birthday twin and former DR JOSE posted.....when he was in the second or third grade, he asked his parents to let him take the FLOWER DRUM SONG soundtrack to school.  For show and tell he acted out the song "I Enjoy Being a Girl" just like Nancy Kwan did it in the movie.....the nuns were appalled and he was forbidden to bring any more records to school.....

The offers dribble in.  My next couple of keyboard gigs are La Cage aux Folles (the "new" version) and The Little Mermaid (the whatever-the-hell-it-is version).

Press the tux!  Alert the media and the American Theatre Wing!

I love coffee shops, but not for the coffee, which is usually worse than drinking the used dish water.

I love the club sandwich, the burgers, the breakfast food. I go to a local chain called Jim's, which has some locations open 24 hours a day. My favorite lately is a chef's salad, which is always fresh and not fussy but really satisfying. Also, the fried okra with a slathering of Tabasco sauce makes me very happy.

When Bruce asks "What are your all-time favorite coffee shops?" my first response is Ships, (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ships_Coffee_Shop) not because it was a favorite but because it was a coffee shop I enjoyed well enough as a child.

Obviously DR George immediately thought of today's coffee houses which I don't believe existed prior to the Starbuck's phenomenon. He responded "Topic of the Day:  not a coffee drinker, so I don't have a favorite coffee shop.  Sorry."

When I google coffee house all I see are the modern day coffee shops and not the ones of old.

Starbucks is not a coffee shop in any way, shape, or form.  Coffee shop has a very specific meaning.  Ships, yes.  Coral Cafe, Du-Par's, Lancer's, Tallyrand, Gaby's, Stat's, Googie's, Lyttles, yes.  Coffee Bean, no.  Starbucks, no.  A coffee shop will always have complete breakfasts, sandwiches and burgers, usually pies, and hot dishes.

There's a short video of Moonlight director Barry Jenkins in the Criterion library. He got to take what he wanted for free. He took many I have and more that I want. Just hearing him on the Cassavettes box set was wonderful. And his delight at the Jacques Demy set, Rasomon and Monsoon Wedding was great.

I envy him.

Ahh...thanks for the clarification.  Then, the only places that I've been to that would fit the definition would be Denny's, IHOP and Shari's.  All have been pretty good (and not so good, at times).

One package is definitely not arriving today - just more bad Amazon BS that gets worse with every passing day - but the other one is still "out for delivery" via Amazon's own delivery service.  THAT moron loves to show up at the last minute, usually too late for me to get there before they close.  I've lodged yet another complaint about this yahoo - I don't know what is so hard about delivering to a UPS Store earlier in the day - they make their own routes and schedules and they know the hours - in other words, RESIDENCES don't close so do those last not first.  This idiot has been out for deliver since eight this morning.

It's 16.8%. Excellent when you consider the year we had.

That's amazing!  We employees got a 1.75% COLA, and the materials budget (what I have to deal with) got a 16.4% CUT! :-\

This is not a raise. My raise will likely be 1.5%.

Had dinner with friends tonight. A couple of bottles of wine and I'm feeling quite fine.

Am on the last two episodes of Poldark Season 2. Loving Demelza, who has a name right out of Thomas Hardy, but is much more intelligent than the ilk of Tess and Eustacia.

Among the few I have liked was Bathsheba Everdene in "Far From the Madding Crowd."

Spring seems to be coming, which means the oaks are likely to be in bloom while the cedar pollen is still heavy. And the mold is blowing about.

And while we have a day in the 80s set for next week, I think we'll still have a heavy freeze before the winter is through with us.

Finished with my viewing and with this day!  I went to the UPS Store just to be there when they closed (and to pick up some actual mail)  They close at six-thirty.  I drove away two minutes later.  My packages were delivered ten minutes after that because they hadn't gone home yet.  I got Amazon on the phone and read them the riot act and would not get off the phone until they let me speak to the Amazon supervisor at the Amazon delivery station, and I read the riot act to her.  The driver will be spoken to and it's now writ large on any order I place that it must be delivered within STORE hours rather than residential hours.  Needless to say I don't get the packages until tomorrow.

DR George and DR TCB, TripAdviser refers to the Spruce Goose Cafe in Townsend, WA as “The '50's Coffee Shop Reinvented”.  Have either of you eaten there?

I assume they mean in Port Townsend, WA.  I believe I know where it is in town, but I don't think I have ever eaten there.
