If you have never seen THE DARK AT THE TOP OF THE STAIRS (the film), you owe it to yourself.  One of my top ten favorite films of all time.

Robert Preston
Dorothy McGuire
Eve Arden
Angela Lansbury
Shirley Knight

Tom, I've seen the movie versions of these, but not the stage versions:

COME BACK LITTLE SHEBA
PICNIC
BUS STOP
AUNTIE MAME
NO TIME FOR SERGEANTS
THE MATCHMAKER
WITNESS FOR THE PROSECUTION

But I did see CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF on stage, here in Olympia, and in London starring Brendan Fraser and Ned Beatty!

Again, great photographic evidence of Old Friends at Factors.

Old Friends at Factors:  A Memoir

I was shocked, shocked, to hear that BK had never been there, especially since the family homestead had been just down the street.  Well, I might never have been to Factors either if it weren't for the fact (see what I did there?) that I, too, lived for one year just two blocks down the street -- on S. Beverly Drive at Cashio where friends had a condo that I was staying in while vacating my previous apartment and joining them on their sailing cruise in the Caribbean for several months.

However, the only food I remember eating in Factors was breakfast or brunch in which, to my knowledge, I only ever had a bagel with lox, cream cheese, and all the trimmings.  God, those were delicious.  But I'm glad to hear the place has survived the years, and especially glad to hear the pastrami is great.  Want!

Apropos of the title for the day, if not the reason for the title of the day:

"Old friends, old friends,
Sat on their parkbench like bookends
A newspaper blown through the grass
Falls on the round toes
of the high shoes of the old friends

"Old friends, winter companions, the old men
Lost in their overcoats, waiting for the sun
The sounds of the city sifting through trees
Settles like dust on the shoulders of the old friends"

To the best of my knowledge, we don't have any active British members.

I've read on the internet that U.K.'s prime minister has elevated the country's security level to "critical" which is interpreted to mean they believe another terrorist attack is imminent.

Good afternoon, Laura.

We're having a cooling trend in Oakland.  Highs in the mid-60s most days this week.

And now, I must be off.  I'm ushering for Wonderful Wurlitzer! (http://www.washingtoncenter.org/event/wurlitzer-2017-05-23/)  It's a free event and I hadn't signed up to usher, but an e-mail went out today saying that they needed more ushers.  They want 21, but only 5, count 'em, 5 signed up!  So, I'm going to see a Wurlitzer organ concert.  I don't doubt that it'll be very good!

Be back later.

The doctor said that all cancer has been removed, but that I am good candidate for its return.  He is building me up for chemo starting sometime in June, so that any and ALL cells that can't be seen right now can be gotten rid of before they start to spread.

So - we start the regime.....I have lost more weight....down to 179.8 lbs - my thinnest in decades.  He told me  I looked a lot older than  I did when before surgery....so I told him his associate was better looking than he was...which made him laugh.

Thursday is follow up with the surgeon....so on we go.  Thanks everyone for asking and for sending thoughts and vibes.  It is wonderful to have people who care.

Glad to hear the good news, Jrand. Vibes for your continued success.

Are you familiar with Hiromi Shinya, MD? He's the gastroenterologist who invented the colonoscope and performed the first colonoscopies. He wanted to make sure his patients remained well after surgery and developed what he calls the Diet for the Future. He has a very high success rate. He's written several books. I read THE ENZYME FACTOR. It's an easy easy and probably the best place to start.

Tonight I went to one of those "free seminars". Basically a 45 minute commercial for a financial planner but it came with a free dinner at a very nice restaurant 10 minutes from my home,  the invite was for me and a friend and since I knew Vixdad wouldn't be home in time I invited a coworker to join me

We listened to the very low pressure sales pitch while munching hot bread and butter, then enjoyed a lovely meal starting with Greek salad followed by our choice of entree: fish, rggplant rollentnni or chicken Francese .

I've started listening to P.G. Wodehouse' Damsel in Distress. I needed something light after The Underground Railroad and with all the stress st work.

It is the perfect panacea. I'm laughing out loud at passages. Haven't read him in ages, and it's overdue to renew the acquaintance.

After seeing DR JohnG's list, I'd add these
The Madwoman of Chaillot (written in the 1940s, Broadway in 1950)
Ondine
Tiger At the Gates
The Enchanted
Ring Round the Moon
The Lark
Long Day's Journey into Night
The Chalk Garden
The Rainmaker
A Raisin in the Sun

Love Ring Around the Moon

God, I hate that show.  We called it RING ROUND THE TOILET, when I did it.

Back from a VERY long day - this will be interesting, this double duty and I'm fairly exhausted.  Rehearsal one went very well - I decided not to do a run-through but to clean up and work on the scenes and the acting.  We got about two thirds of the way through, so tomorrow we'll finish doing that and then run the show.
