I last saw Mike Carter in 1978, and my friends David and Nancy Shultz drove up from North Carolina. I had seen others there in visits to Ohio, but it was a fantastic par-tay. It was a really fun evening and DR Ginny and Richard were perfect hosts.

Post by: Amy on June 11, 2017, 08:42:58 AM: Mark and I saw "Hit Song" last night and it was very enjoyable. The band and the sets were amazing - especially for what was supposed to be just a workshop. The show is too short to have a really developed plot and some of it is confusing, but the songs were all so very catchy that I didn't care. The actors/singers were also amazing with the really young actors being surprisingly good. Every singer had a really powerful voice and I didn't notice any technical glitches. Everyone involved should be very proud.

Oh well. Easy come, easy go. Now I am home, and the air-conditioning has been fired up. The rest of the afternoon and evening are nothing but leisure for this here DR. I shall be at the Tony Awards bash tonight, but I'll probably get in late thanks to a hastily planned, last minute hamburger and hot dog grilling fest.

Sadly, we did not get near the swimming pool, but we did go to see my favorite nephew Matt, who's working on his new home, which he took possession of on May 28th. His wife's grandfather is helping him with all the interior work - they are currently living with his wife's mother and Matt cannot wait to get out of there. His daughter Leona will be two in November, and she's really a little beauty. We had a nice visit and then we drove to Dayton to a steakhouse for dinner. Jo had an $80 gift certificate, and we ate quite well. The strawberry daiquiris were really wonderful.

And I had a blast doing that and working with these actors and creatives. And I'm VERY proud of my work on it - the director part - it looked great, moved quickly, and the performances were great.

Kate Baldwin is an exception this year. She looks great in that dress--and she really knows how to strike a pose.

It was nice to see Richard Thomas even if it was just in the audience....with his wife and the mother of his triplets!

The symphony performed some wonderful pieces, including Sibelius' Finlandia, Rimsky-Korsakov, Offenbach, Kachaturian and Antheil, while the circus performers did their stuff. One was a woman who could do aerial tricks far above the stage and play the violin at the same time. I'm sure there's a market for that some place.

And that song - sorry, five people sang it at the Hit Song auditions - I'd heard it was the greatest new theater song EVER. To me it sounds like every other "new" theater song of the last decade - they all have the same harmonic structure and open fourth and fifth chords - it's a joke already.

I think that song is either the only, or one of the only times that Patti and Christine sing together...I think I'd read that, but I could be wrong.

Spoo...I was wrong. According to the Amazon listing (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B072BWXM6D), they sing six tracks together, and at least four more with Douglas Sills and John Dossett and others.
