That sucks.

I know!  But it was the only way that the show can get to perform at the Capitol Theater.

It is too bad that you couldn't, at least, run a second weekend.

Listening to Martinu's fifth symphony - I'm enjoying it more the second time through - it's quite good.

And there's a bit in the first movement that literally sounds like Dimitri Tiomkin lifted it for his Dial 'M' for Murder score.

I know.  Originally, it was announced that it was going to run two weekends, but at some point before auditions, that changed.

I had a dream that I was helping Judi Dench with her coat at a subway stop, but then we were riding a bus down Seventh Avenue.  She was heading to the O;d Vic, which is in London,  and I was off to Toyland.  A tale of two cities and two shows.

Thanks to DR ELMORE and DR FJL.  Today is a day off chemo meds and without radiation, so it's a good day.

DR ELMORE if Judi Dench can get to the Old Vic on a Seventh Avenue bus, she is more of a magician than she seems to be.....

Now this makes me think of drunk Katharine Hepburn in DESK SET talking about the Mexican Avenue Bus....and wondering how wonderful Shirley Booth would have been in that scene on Broadway.....

The printer order is cancelled, and I have ordered another, which should arrive on Tuesday.  I've also sent a "thank you for the cold comfort of apologies" email to my landlord, stating:
I will repeat: when it comes to housework, I am virtually a prisoner on the third floor.  Is there an intern in your office who can stop by 2-4 times a week, do my laundry, bring up packages, and carry garbage to the basement for me?

You can offer apologies all you want but it's cold comfort to me.

Showered and drove over to the theater - Burbank Blvd. shut down, cop cars everywhere.  I u-turned and went one block south and up the alley to our theater.  That was cordoned off, too, but I was able to park.  Someone from the theater came over to me and said they'd just cancelled the matinee - no one quite knew what was going on, but I could see cops everywhere with assault rifles - fifty cars and a block east was their barricade.  I can't find a damn thing on Google about it - where IS the news?  So, I came back home and will begin highlighting scripts shortly.  Making a batch of Wacky Noodles for food.  Too hot to be out and about.

DR Jeanne, since the landlord has already advised the tenants they are taking bids for a new elevator, I suspect we can scream all we want and nothing will be done.  The oldest tenants in the building, at this point, are me an John, who's about 5 years older than I, on the 3rd floor, and Alice on the first. First I had to sit with the cast list and my script and notate what each person would be doing in terms of what roles.  That took an hour.  Then I began highlighting each person's script - a pain in the ASS, but there's no other real way to do this and keep the reading smooth.

Sounds like a song: There's a haboob 'round my corner ...

I hope it's not a bad one, Laura.

Then, we open on Thursday and close on Sunday.

Unfortunately,  as of yesterday, we realize we won't be able to drive up to see the show.  I hope it sells out and you have a good time.

Thanks, Jane!

Its nice to be Mary sometimes

My very old tribute to Marys everywhere

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SSFtaG74LDc

This was from the proposed "The Testiness of Mary," a take-off of "The Testament of Mary"

(obviously made with much respect while Mary Tyler Moore was still with us, of course!)

Nice, Fred!

Why do directors think they need to do that?

Why do directors think they need to do that?

Because they can...and they know that fans will pay for things like that. ::)

That's too bad, BK.  Can you reschedule the cancelled performance?

But we got through the show with most of the (fairly small but completely live) orchestra and some costumes.

Some costumes?

Some costumes?

Not everyone's costumes are finished.  I only had a couple of jackets.  The director found a trench coat for me as "the Flasher who lives next door."  I've got some things here at home that I'm bringing tomorrow for consideration, and the guy who plays Wilbur says he has sweat pants and a suit that should fit me.

After the 4-hour rehearsal, I got something to eat downtown, then house managed (essentially just took the donations) for the reading of a new play.  It's a funny Krampus and anti-Christmas Christmas play.  One of the two authors lives in Lacey (about 10 miles from where I live) but the first production is going to be in Colorado.  She used to live there and was part of a theater company for several years.  It needs some work...mostly detail and a little tightening, but it's mostly there.  It was pretty funny. :)

After the reading, I went shopping to see what costume pieces I could get and I found a belt, a tie, and a hat.  Then went to Taco Del Mar for dinner, then I came home and looked through my own stuff for costume ideas.

I think I found some good things.  Hopefully, the director thinks so, too.

A couple of props that I'll bring tomorrow are a genuine working 1940s rotary phone (for the Turnblad household) and some brass skeleton keys for the guard that I play (as a sight gag instead of a realistic prop).

They do, but I think of her more as a costume coordinator.  Since there are so many people in the cast, we were asked to supply certain things ourselves.

But the show is being done period?

Certainly.  It's really more period-ish because they don't have the budget to build the most historically accurate costumes, but they'll definitely evoke the time.

I don't know.  I didn't see all of them and I think at least one wasn't there today.

There's supposed to be an orchestra rehearsal (and sing-through for the actors who can be there) on Tuesday night.  I'm sure the whole band will be there then.

You don't have a dress rehearsal on Tuesday night?

You don't have a dress rehearsal on Tuesday night?

Because we're in the theater normally occupied by the Olympia Film Society, and they had their schedule set before they asked us to perform there, we have to have our tech rehearsals today through Wednesday in the mornings.  We do get to perform in the evenings, plus the two matinees on the weekend.  The orchestra rehearsal Tuesday night will be somewhere else.
