Well, you've read the notes, the notes birthed the notes, and now it is time for you to post until the birthed cows come home.

So, earlier this year (maybe back in April), I entered the PBS lottery to get tickets to "Antiques Roadshow" in Portland, Oregon.  Well, I got tickets again!  I had actually gone in 2004, so I get to go again!  It'll be next Saturday, August 12...at 8-freakin'-a.m. in the freakin' morning, though.  I can't imagine that I'll be recorded, but I get to go again! :D

I have to be at the theater by 4:30, then we have a 5:00 show.  After that Rob Berman, Joshie, and I are having dinner to celebrate The New Yorkers and the 92nd Street Y Lerner & Loewe show.  I sure wish we were doing a commercial recording of The New Yorkers!

I have to begin a straightening up and clearing of space in the Music Room because I'll be having my second pianist over a few times next week to begin rehearsing I Do! I Do!  I'll also be putting my second keyboard away and bringing the theater's Kurzweil down for a few weeks so we can play on the matched instruments we'll be using in performance.

EDIT:  My druthers would have been to have space behind the set or a scrim or on a platform or something, and get the theater to rent two small (real) pianos for the acoustical joy of it all, but the stage design just won't accommodate it.

Either this afternoon or tomorrow afternoon, I'll be driving down to Norwalk to see DUNKIRK in 70mm IMAX.

This will include a stop at the nearby Barnes & Noble for a second run on some Criterions.  Just a few more critical ones.  Sale ends Monday night, for anyone who needs to know.  You know who you are.

We had our first "pre-reading" of a new show that I'm working on with my friend Marian (the book of which we recorded as a demo so that we can listen to the flow of this draft of the show).  The producer of the pre-reading  specifically wanted to do the reading on Long Island, where he has a recording studio, and use people from the local area rather than have actors come in from NYC, so i went out to Mineola.  The producer's feedback as of late yesterday seems to be that the dialogue and book is in far better shape than he'd thought it was, and having recorded the book will allow Marian and me to listen to the arc of the show and see how it builds.  But that's a relief, assuring that he will continue with the piece.

As of now, the only bad part is he really wants to do whatever steps he can outside of NYC, in his Mineola music studio, which is a shlep, but makes expenses of renting space fairly low.  So some extra (unwanted) shlepping to Mineola, hopefully not in heat like this past Tuesday, may be in my future.

But that's horrible for Portland. So I hope our northwestern folks are able to keep cool today somehow.

I grabbed this photo from the local paper.  Apparently the haze from the fire is keeping us a few degrees cooler while compromising the air quality.  I would rather have the few degrees extra heat.  My swim this morning was refreshing.

The second (or third, depending on how you count) item is the DVD The Music of Leroy Anderson: Once Upon a Sleigh Ride (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000ICLRC0/)!  I had actually purchased this a couple of years ago for only $19.67 (including shipping), but the order was cancelled after it was paid for.  "No longer available" was the excuse. :P The only other copies available at the time were for at least $100!  I think the seller pulled it after realizing that...that's my story and I'm sticking to it.  Anyway, I wasn't going to pay that much for it, but the price came down to a now more reasonable (but still more than $20) $42.  And it's sealed and brand new! :D

They don't sell it in the U.S.  It only available in Canada.  Who knows if it'll ever be available here.  Maybe this is a test run to see how it would do, but all the available bottles that I've seen on Amazon and eBay (other than the previously free give-away bottles) are from Canadian sellers.

I just tried to order it from Amazon.ca (https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B06XRHNQ5V/) (for only $3.97 CDN), but when you go to the listing (when logged in), you see the message:  This item does not ship to your selected location.

So, even though the U.S. Amazon sellers can get them from Canada, you can't order it directly from Canadian Amazon.  Interesting.

But Mineola is a quick ride forme so if you ever want to catch a  meal...

Sorry about the shlep, but the show sounds quite exciting. Can you give us any details at all?

Sure, some of the songs are here

It's more serious than a lot of stuff I usually work on.  The show takes place on Long Island about ten years ago, and it's about the impact of the war on a family that runs a music business, when the younger son comes home wounded, having been saved by his older brother who got killed while saving him.

DR George, with the ingredients listed on the bottle you might be able to recreate the recipe to your satisfaction.

I think I've seen YouTube videos that show how to replicate those kinds of recipes, and a simple Google search would also come up with some more than adequate results, too.  Looking at the list of ingredients, I'm not sure that I could easily find propylene glycol alginate or hydrolized vegetable protein in my local Fred Meyer.

I am home, a little tipsy, but very happy from a wonderful day.  The show went well, my friends had a good time, and the dinner at the West Bank Cafe was deelish.  Tomorrow, back to the humdrum. First up, laundry!

I went to get my hair done today and was surprised to see a woman getting highlights in her hair.  My hairdresser goofed and accidentally filled my spot.  I will return tomorrow.

Had a wonderful two-hour visit with Richard and Elizabeth Sherman - he played through our new song, I made two note adjustments that he liked and it's done now.  We gabbed and gabbed and laughed and laughed and just when we could laugh no more we laughed again.  And he really liked the arrangement we came up with for the act two opener.

Well, I'm leaving work now.  I have to walk home because after I had lunch at Happy Teriyaki, my car wouldn't start!  I called a tow truck but fortunately before they got there, I was able to start my car and get it to the auto shop that I go to here in town.  They said that they should be able to look at it tomorrow, and hopefully they'll find that it was just the heat preventing the car from starting that one time...hopefully!  Anyway, I'm really glad I live so close!

Be back later.

Went to a banquet honoring my boss for the work he'd done for his church's childhood development center. Only three of us went, but I think he appreciated our being there. We had largely kept it a surprise.

Exciting news - a new Randy Newman album out tomorrow.  His last few have been so weird, with only a couple of keeper songs but none that you could actually sing outside the album - but hearing the samples on this it sounds like he's back into his classic turf and with an orchestra.
