We are basically packed and ready to put our large suitcase outside the room tonight for collection.  All that will go into the smaller bags in the morning, for us to carry off ourselves, is what we need for tonight and tomorrow.

T.O.D. (2)

Actually, my most vivid memory of Christmas was when I discovered my father was Santa Claus.

I was about 6-7.  Dad always went to work on Christmas Day, then awhile later, Santa showed up at our front door.

On this particular Christmas, I was standing next to Santa and I noticed that, under his red suit, he was wearing my father's shirt.

 :o :o :o

It took me awhile to put it together, but that's when I realized that Santa did not exist.

 :( :( :(

I've always wondered: If that hadn't have happened, would I still believe in Santa Claus?

 ??? ??? ???

I was fairly young when I sat on the stairs watching my parents put Santa's gifts under the tree.  I snuck back to bed and never told anyone what I had seen afraid "Santa" would not return.

My sister and I figured out what was up with Santa and the Easter Bunny one Easter morning -- around age 7 for me, so age 5 for her.  The two of us just suddenly put our heads together to think about how a frickin' bunny could be doing this stuff he was purported to be doing.  A moment later it was like the proverbial lightbulb went on over our heads.  We went to our parents and said we think we just figured out something ... and that was that.

It was as un-traumatic a revelation as you could ask for, and there were never any regrets.  I'm amazed now to think she was only five at the time, because in recent years I've heard of some people's kids "believing" up to age ten and beyond, and I don't see how that can be good for anyone, the kid or the parents.  I might be wrong, but I've always thought the possibility of a child having their face rubbed in it out in the mean world somewhere is kind of a sad risk to take.

When I was 3, I asked Santa for an umbrella so I could fly away like Mary Poppins. I don’t remember if I got it, but I couldn’t fly away, so I doubted Santa and, we’ll, we weren’t a Santa household anyway.

I asked Santa for Skipper and Skooter, and he nodded and said, "Slippers and a scooter." I knew then he was a fraud.

I got both in my stocking, so I'm not so sure.

Val came up to help me catch Thatch, and we've succeeded.  Thatch is in his carrier and I need to decide if he's going to the vet or to the animal center.  Much as I love him, he's a handful and creating chaos because of his passive aggressive fear of me.  I want him well, but if I have to spend every day wrestling furniture to find him and torture him with more medicine, I'd rather give him up than waste my time and money on what I'm sadly beginning to feel is an impossible cause.

I've had my meltdown after two days of frustration and chasing a cat.

Thatch and I are home from seeing the vet. We saw the lovely Dr Romero, and I think I may keep her as Thatch's vet and Dr Mohr as Annabelle's.  He has two new meds, one an eye salve and one an oral, and we'll see how this fares. I will not give him up because I love the little bugger, he's Annabelle's baby, and I am determined to heal him and make this his home.

So, let's make him healthy and happy.

Thatch & Catch sounds like a Kenner Toy OR a Ronco Product.

There's a song - actually a round for several principals and the ensemble - from One Touch of Venus called "Catch Hatch."  It's so apt.

I released Thatch from his carrier, and he's happy to be home.  While we were out, Val brought up the two cartons of Amazon containing cat food and 50 ping pong balls of various colors. Thatch is now chasing colored balls about the apartment.  Annabelle, after playing with the large paper bag containing last night's salad, is lying in the Amazon cartons.

Wow, that is a lot of ping pong balls.

The Christmas we were 19, and very poor, all I wanted for Christmas was a small box of ping balls for the cats.  On Christmas Eve I insisted Keith stop so we could buy some.  Once he saw how much the cats loved playing with them he was glad I insisted.

Ping pong balls are also one of my best Christmas gifts.

We almost lost Rex one year when he was sick. We went to the vet every other day for about two or three weeks. It wasn't until I saw a different vet in a branch office who gave him one of the Big Guns antibiotics that he began to get better. I paid a ton of money to try all the Clavamox-type drugs. I was glad I got a different vet to look at him.

There's something in the basement that terrifies Annabelle, ghosts, I suspect, perhaps ghosts of dead cats since the super who was here in 1980 when I moved in was feeding a large colony of feral cats in the 82nd Street-Amsterdam Avenue corner and keeping them in the basement.  On humid and rainy days, the whole basement reeks of cat piss.

So, I took Annabelle with me while I put more laundry into the washers and broke down the Amazon cartons.  She hung by the elevator and wailed, then she started investigating the hall.  when I broke down the cartons, I carried her into the laundry room and she explored while I waited for the spin cycles to finish.  As soon as the washers were running, I grabbed her and we hightailed it to the third floor.  She will not be going down there again, but as long as she wants to explore the building, it's going to be with me.

Thank you, DRs Jane, George, Elmore, John G, KevinH, and FJL for the vibes for Richard.  He felt well enough to carry in the huge load of groceries I just brought home.  The good news is that we no longer have to go to Barnes and Noble to finish up our Christmas shopping because I found everything I needed at Kroger.  The bad news is I forgot one very important stocking stuffer for Rob, but we can get that at the gas station market around the corner.  No more Krogering for me until after Christmas.

I've been so frustrated the past two days, I do believe I meant what what I posted before we saw the vet.  While I was waiting for the bus with him, I couldn't imagine giving him away or leaving him to a shelter where they might euthanize him.  I love that kitten.  He makes me laugh.  Losing him or Annabelle, who is my heart and soul, are too painful to conceive.

I just held little Thatch.  He was dozing in his cat tree and I picked him up.  He snuggled in, appeared to enjoy being cuddled, liked the petting, but then he gets alarmed and anxious by this comfort.  I set him back in his tree and he ran off to look for Annabelle, his safety zone.  Now he's back rubbing against my legs and wanting petting.  How could I lose this little bundle of contradictions?

Strange day.  The wiring guy came but we all decided that it was going to be too much of a pain and pretty much impossible to wire under the house to the wall in back of the couch, mostly having to do with how the house was reconfigured.  So, we're searching for wireless back speakers.

Leslie Young's Alexa was today's unboxing helper and she was very helpful - we got about six boxes completely unboxed and on shelves, but more importantly she got all the paintings and posters in one place where they're safe and she made two big aisles so that I can now get to any place in the garage.  Next time she's here, next week, I'm going to leave her on her own and let her then rejigger what's on the shelves currently to take up the least amount of space, then we'll get stuff out of boxes onto those shelves and that will remove about twenty more boxes.

Good news from DR JEANNE.

After the doctor's visit - I visited my other three doctors in the building & next door to let them know I need to change my preferred pharmacy.  My WELLCARE prescription plan will no longer have Walgreen's in its network, so I have to go to CVS......

So then I went to CVS and gave them my info so they would have it in my system when my regular meds come due in January.

Then we went to Family Dollar - I had a $5 dollars off coupon, IF I spent $25.

They had the Kathy Mitchell Copper Pans in the flyer.....but they didn't have any on the shelf.  I found the spot where they had been...so I only bought a box of candy....no $5 off!

I am sorry about your mother. You must be feeling rather frustrated.  Is it overall pain or does she need to see a specialist?

Starting Wonder Woman tonight. The acting is fine and the story is fairly interesting, but the look of it is so fake that it's going to be easy,  I think, to turn it off in an hour or so.

In years past we all brought something. But this year the cafeteria downstairs was offering to cater breakfast, they set up chafing dishes with scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, home fries, french toast, hot map,e syrup, coffee, assorted pastries, coffee, OJ, cream cheese, butter   It was $10 a person.  When they deliveed it we discovered the boss had paid for it already

I remembered about the crackers lasting night and stopped at party city to get them.  They were selling packages if 8 of the cheap type (, not highly decorated, cheap plastic gifts) for $19.99 a box

I decided to go to BJs instead

They had packages of 8  high quality crackers (beautifully decorated, good quality gifts such as metal yo yo, retractable tape measure, pens, bracelets, book marks) for $12.98 but they were reduced for clearance so they were only $5.98 a box!!!

Please wish me good luck finding a light weight, attractive pair of sunglasses today that fit me and do not distort my vision.

My missing old glasses were rather scratched and I have been looking for a long time now for a replacement pair, obvious without success.

Good luck in finding new glasses, Jane!!  And when (not if) you do, make sure that you get two or three or more pairs of the same thing! ;D

Well, I'm FINALLY leaving work!  I just did the annual fiscal year roll-over.  Whew!  It wasn't without its hiccups, but it's done until next year.  Now, we in the Acquisitions department will have a little (or not so little) clean-up to do.

Be back later!

Watched about forty minutes of the screener that came today - It.  I didn't care for the TV movie of It, and I'm not much caring for this movie - I just find the characters too standard issue and if I never see another high school bully antagonizing everyone it will be too soon, especially as they're all cast and acted the same.  It's better than the TV movie and I'll continue watching, I suppose.
