Happy Winter Solstice, Y’all.

Time to sing Rodgers and Hart’s lovely The Shortest Day of the Year.

This is the day for it!

TOD - When I was 12 or 13, my parents gave me a set of World Book encyclopedias for Christmas.  We replaced that set for the then-current edition when Rob was about the same age.  It's still on a prominent shelf adjacent to our kitchen table.

Mom said no. Of course, she gave me one, and I played with it until I wore it out.

TOD, part II: One year I really wanted Skipper and her friend Skooter.

http://www.fashion-doll-guide.com/skooter-dolls.html

I asked Santa for Skipper and Skooter, and he nodded and said, "Slippers and a scooter." I knew then he was a fraud.

I got both in my stocking, so I'm not so sure.

(I got the blond Skipper and the redheaded Skooter.)

Today is the women's Christmas salad luncheon at church. I'm one of the youngest women there. I wonder how many jello salads will be present?

Val came up to help me catch Thatch, and we've succeeded.  Thatch is in his carrier and I need to decide if he's going to the vet or to the animal center.  Much as I love him, he's a handful and creating chaos because of his passive aggressive fear of me.  I want him well, but if I have to spend every day wrestling furniture to find him and torture him with more medicine, I'd rather give him up than waste my time and money on what I'm sadly beginning to feel is an impossible cause.

Vet and Thatch & Catch vibes for DR ELMORE.

Thatch & Catch sounds like a Kenner Toy OR a Ronco Product.

I've had my meltdown after two days of frustration and chasing a cat.

Thatch and I are home from seeing the vet. We saw the lovely Dr Romero, and I think I may keep her as Thatch's vet and Dr Mohr as Annabelle's.  He has two new meds, one an eye salve and one an oral, and we'll see how this fares. I will not give him up because I love the little bugger, he's Annabelle's baby, and I am determined to heal him and make this his home.

So, let's make him healthy and happy.

There's a song - actually a round for several principals and the ensemble - from One Touch of Venus called "Catch Hatch."  It's so apt.

I released Thatch from his carrier, and he's happy to be home.  While we were out, Val brought up the two cartons of Amazon containing cat food and 50 ping pong balls of various colors. Thatch is now chasing colored balls about the apartment.  Annabelle, after playing with the large paper bag containing last night's salad, is lying in the Amazon cartons.

I just put the laundry into the washers, and wen I go down, I'll take the cartons and Annabelle with me.  I will be keeping close tabs on her this time.

To answer DR Laura’s question from last night, things went OK at the diabetes doctor yesterday.

Good news, John!

In 20 minutes I can call the vet, and I am praying for a cancellation to take Thatch in today.  Between his continual hiding, losing two appointment times, the damned Republican tax bill, and the elevator problems, it was one shitty day.
