Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of an Evening Star, and now it is time for you to post until the evening cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: HARMONIOUS!
-
'night
-
First post after
BK Jane.
-
A very nice tribute, BK. I love listening to Guy Haines.
-
Good night, one and all.
-
Good night, Tom.
-
And the word of the day is: HARMONIOUS!
A big chunk of the second act of Hello, Dolly! is at the Harmonious Gardens.
-
;)
-
Very nice Harvey Schmidt stories in your notes, BK.
-
And I love the picture, too. I can only imagine how great it looks in person.
-
Well, it's time for bed.
Good night and have a good day, all!
-
Good morning, all!
-
BK, the Harvey Schmidt memories were glorious. When I worked on MIRETTE with Harvey and Tom at Goodspeed, we talked about you one night over dinner. He loved you. He said "I wish I'd known him when I was in grade school. We would have been best friends for life and it seems like we've been friends for life.
Whenever I called Harvey in Texas, I always got his answering machine, so we usually communicated via Dan Shaheen. When I think of Harvey, I hear is his wonderful drawl on the name Mary, when he told me stories of doing I DO I DO.
-
The weather outside looks frightful, but around 9:00 I will board a bus and head down to 27th Street, sign my tax forms and pay my accountant.
Once I'm back, I have work on the desk and a lot of house cleaning.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Thank you, BK, for sharing your memories of Harvey Schmidt.
-
Annabelle's breathing this morning is labored and every exhalation sounds like a fart This is not good. I need my tax return to pay for her dental work, among other things, but I don;t know how to deal with her current breathing issues. I sent her vet an email first thig this morning.
-
T.O.D.
A lot of stuff recorded from this past week that we haven't had a chance to watch.
-
Great public relations this morning for McDonald's restaurants. I guess if you're homeless, you can't eat there...even if you pay for it.
Very sad.

Good morning, all.
-
And March does indeed come in like a lion, with a great storm going on out there, and the passing of a beloved giant.
-
BEAUTIFUL remembrance in the notes today, BK.
That is some great reading, and I will be revisiting it through the next couple of days. This morning I'm going to put it into a Word doc to send to my friend, the director of our I Do! I Do!, because he's not a blog reader or even a Facebook reader but he will greatly appreciate this history and the beautifully composed memories.

What the HELL! Vibes for a quick response and a cure for what ails her!

Last night I posted about seeing Cinema Paradiso. Here is the fairly unique venue: http://cinematreasures.org/theaters/3311
It's a lovely little movie theater that serves a number of purposes in the town hall, but they've protected its movie showing status for decades and kept the admission price at $2 for years, and now $3. They have a small concession stand, but the pre-show screen blurb invites you to bring your own snacks if you like. (That THUD you heard is the sound of hundreds of movie theater chain execs fainting dead away.)
After moving here in 1989 I went to a number of second-run films there, and it was always a pleasure, especially sitting in the balcony. Sadly, they have now closed the balcony off, and the fare, as I said, is mostly family and kids oriented, nothing at all like before. But the place retains a lovely theater ambiance and they're attentive to quality, so when they show something you want to see it's worth driving a few extra miles for it.
The one photo posted there is nothing (and I see it's duplicated several times in the actual photo section...WTF?). I shall go early next time and remedy that, as I usually have a way with theater photos.
-
Good morning to all.
-
Very this was a very nice eulogy for Harvey Schmidt.
I had hope that you'd devote an entire album to lost songs to 110. Legend was that they wrote over 100 songs that never made it into the show.
-
DR elmore sez:
I think DRs vixmom and ChasSmith will have a good time at Subways Are For Sleeping this weekend. There are some book issues, and I wish I liked more that 50-75% of the score. The cast is game and good, and David Hancock Turner's piano work is really lovely. I had a very good time.
So happy to hear that report. REALLY looking forward to it now!
-
And:
DR vixmom, Jim Morgan announced that Desperate Measures is moving to The Other Stages in May. We'll have to go back.
If'n y'all do go back, I'd sure like to try to join this time.
-
Safe and warm vibes for anyone in the path of this storm up northeast.

I didn’t have the energy yesterday to answer the TOD, so here goes:

This is an unusual nor'easter, in that the north-and-west half is snow and the east-and-south half is rain. We are right in the transition area, so there's been some "mix", and I'm hoping for not a lot more. If we do get snow, it could be a bit of a mess unless the following rains at least rid the streets of it.
Oh, just listen to me! What care I about the "streets"? It's all about My Driveway. Nothing else matters. :)
-
Breathing vibes foe Annabelle!
-
DR Chas thanks for the link on your local cinema.
-
Wonderful memories in the notes!
-
BK, did I miss where you told us what was upsetting you that you were trying not to get angry about?
-
LOVED the notes and the memories of Mr. Harvey Schmidt! Lovely...thanks for writing them MR BK, and for the photo of the painting and the link to the song.....
Lovely.
-
Breathing vibes for DC Annabelle!
-
Everyday is Sinday for ME!
-
Nice theater DR CHAS SMITH. I was scrolling down and there was a man with something blue stuck on his ear, and I thought that was weird, but it turned out to be an advertisement.
-
DR JANE - the committee is focused on other things - I do not want to add to their burden.
The chairperson wants a quote added to the last slide in the memorial.....I did it, but then I took it out. I chose the backgrounds and the music to create a certain mood so that when the show ends the audience feels a certain way.....adding those words changes the mood....and NOT for the better....I will tell her sooner or later....
"Do not fear growing old, it is a privilege denied to many."
Come on! What a downer - I am sure some of the passings if not ALL will be a shock to several folks, why hit them in the face with it?
Oh well.....I'm still not going to add it back in.
-
Surviving the storm vibes for our EAST COAST HHW'ers.!
-
Maybe a CANDIDE quote: "They're all dead, you know"
-
"As long as we remember them, they're still with us."
-
Maybe if I post enough of these, we'll get to page 2 before noon EST.
-
I wonder if the ones who were more popular in school will get more applause, like on most Oscar shows.
-

Apparently two girls were kicked out of a London McDonald’s into the snow because they were wearing school uniforms. Customer service, I tell ya.
-
Maybe a CANDIDE quote: "They're all dead, you know"
Ha! That would be my high school.
-
Yesterday there was a $5 sale on a digital version of The Band’s Visit. Really enjoying it.
-
One of my high school classmates died in the summer before 11th grade, in a bicycle tragedy that had made all the papers and T news. We talked then about Chuck Scarborough on NBC news mispronouncing his name. The fellow who died had dropped by my summer job a few weeks earlier talking (among many other things) about some bitterness between himself and a fellow (very popular and gifted) student, though I'm sure the death was really a total accident. When school started that fall, it was that fellow student went form classroom to classroom collecting for the memorial fund. I wondered if the popular student ever realized there was any bad feeling between them.
-
Sometimes bad feeling only goes one way; or I guess bad feeling (between even friends) can be temporary in one direction, but last longer in the other direction.
How would that look on a sampler?
-
It's wet, cold, and generally unpleasant outside. I am home and soaking wet, but my taxes are paid off and filed.
-

I'm sorry as I am laughing. That seems an inappropriate place for the quote.
How many people to do expect to be at the reunion?
-
"As long as we remember them, they're still with us."
Much, much better :)

I'd never thought of that possibility, but maybe.
The popular student knew very well that by his doing the money-raising task, donations from students would be much greater than if someone else had gone from class to class. He'd been a tiny bit of a brat in elementary school, but matured wonderfully as he entered his teens.. And not that this should have mattered, but it did figure into the girls swooning over him, he had the singing voice of angel. (He never pursued singing later in life, though.)
I never tried to find out the source of the conflict between them. The person who died during the summer had been the one who was in my circle.

I am home and soaking wet, but my taxes are paid off and filed.
This somehow reads to me like voice-over narration for an accounting-related special interest film. (Possible title: "I'm Waiting for His Return" - a Natalie Cole reference)
-
Hello, everyone.
-
It's cold and wet here, too, but I'm sure not as cold as NY or some other areas.
-
Jrand, is sounds like you've put together a very nice slide show, but I really think you should have been told from the beginning that it'd be viewed on a laptop. I don't know how to project on a large screen (or wall), but I don't think it's really that difficult. Sounds to me like it wasn't thought through by the chairperson.
-
Bruce, I didn't realize you were so close to Harvey Schmidt. That you knew him, yes, but not close. I think it's possible to remain close with someone even though you don't speak frequently. I'm sure it's a real loss for you. Condolences.

McDonalds is in big trouble. This one store owner has hurt the whole chain with his obnoxious behavior. He probably feels quite justified, but he's hurt the whole corporation, even those store owners who behave admirably.

Well, there is this: ""At my restaurant, the goal is to provide our customers with a positive and welcoming experience each time they visit. Unfortunately, the individual in this video has a history of disruptive behavior and has been asked to leave by management and police on several occasions."
So the fellow had a history of coming in and being disruptive. I believe Mr. Gallo knew exactly what was going to happen, I believe he was ready to film and then be antagonistic to get the cops there and I believe this was all about viral. He got his wish.
-
I'm up, I'm up - a bit less than seven hours of sleep.
-
One Harvey story I forgot to put in the notes but one I've told over and over again - long before I wrote the first Kritzer book, we were supping somewhere and I told him about my grandfather and "What is it, fish?" - well, he thought that was the funniest thing he ever heard and laughed so loud everyone in the restaurant turned to look. For the next three or four weeks he'd call every day and bellow into the phone in that delicious Texas drawl that elmore mentioned and say, "What is it, fiiiiiiish?"
-
How is Annabelle?
-
The redbud trees are showing their true colors again. Just seeing them makes me happy.

I wondered about a back story with this. When the kids were young, Craig about 4 or 5, we had an incident at a McDonald's in Los Angeles with an aggressive homeless person. For a long time after that Craig was skittish around them. The incident wasn't all that bad, it was just Craig was at an age where it was scary for him.

Friday afternoon greetings! Richard and I went to a Celtic music concert at the church where we were married and then out to lunch at Frisch’s. Home now watching Michigan try to advance in the Big Ten basketball tournament.

Sad to hear about Harvey Schmidt...
-
Wow such great stories today.... DR FJL I like all of your quotes better than the one I'm not using.
I shall find a solution to this video problem...oh YES, I will find a way.
It will be shown on a BIG screen at the Alumni Dinner held at the school the next night....
-
Maybe DEAR EVAN HANSON would have been better told from the other perspective DR FJL....interesting....
-
Maybe DEAR EVAN HANSON would have been better told from the other perspective DR FJL....interesting....
My feeling (also from having seen the show only off-Broadway when prices were somewhat normal) is that DEAR EVAN HANSEN is a terrific work from all perspectives, even with its hopeful ending that doesn't seem morally right somehow, but is necessarily there so we don't leave the theatre as upset as if we'd just seen an Albee or O'Neill.
The dramaturg on that show is something of an imaginative genius who (along with the director) I'm sure was deeply involved with keeping the show viable commercially while the writing team told the haunting, disturbing story they wanted to tell. (It's going to make one hell of a movie, I bet.)
-
How is Annabelle?
Her breathing is still labored and she's been napping a bit. She doesn't seem sick, though; she and Thatch are certainly bounding about. There are moments when she seems disoriented.
Her nose is crusty with snot. I want to put a Kleenex up to her face and yell "Blow!"
-
Continued vibes for dear Annabelle.

To add insult to injury, that 40 lbs of kitty litter sits under the mail boxes because my good friend Val, who said yesterday he would take care of getting it to me, hasn't. I deliberately ordered it to arrive yesterday since the elevators were supposedly ready. Did I order it for my health? No, but I sure need it.
I hate it when people piss on my shoes and try to tell me it's raining.

Yesterday there was a $5 sale on a digital version of The Band’s Visit. Really enjoying it.
I bought the physical CD directly from Ghostlight and it just arrived today! I also just received (in a second package, but ordered in the same order) the new London cast recording of Working, with two new songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda. I didn't realize that he had actually written them in 2008 and this is the first recording that uses them.

That's a great song. I hear the "Once on This Island" revival is great, but I'm worried about buying well in advance since they seem not to make cast absences public even when they know them in advance for some reason which is unusual or Telecharge shows. I'll try to get there just before show time so i can buy after seeing the understudy board.

The next-door neighbors are getting a new roof, and there has been banging all day long. That's not a complaint, merely an observation.

Two films I quite liked in the past week:
VICTORIA AND ABDUL
Judi Dench must have had great fun saying, "I am the queen!"
GOODBYE CHRISTOPHER ROBIN
Not sure what I'll watch tonight.

That sound like the perfect time period for some Petula Clark.
Actually, I think Mrs. Miller's cover of "Downtown" also hit the Top 100 during that time. How could anyone forget:

Hello!
-
Very nice tribute to Mr. Schmidt, BK!
-
Due to the predicted high winds, the government was closed today in the DC area, as were most schools.
-
The wind was recorded at over 70 mph at Dulles airport.
-
Lots of power outages. I was happy that I still had power and was able to do four loads of laundry this morning. As I was having lunch, at about 1:45 pm, the power went out.
-
The redbud trees are showing their true colors again. Just seeing them makes me happy.
Redbuds are very pretty. There were a couple of them near my first Virginia townhouse.
I googled a photo. They would make me happy too.
-
I talked to sister Kate/Catherine/Cate and decided to venture outside. There were some kind of tiles all over the little courtyard in front of the buildings but other than that no damage from the storm. Lots of damage elsewhere, though.
-
Oops. Jane, the only MAIGRET shows I've seen are the Atkinson and Gambon. I hadn't known there was another.
I was curious if you agreed or disagreed with my brother's opinion of Cremer as Maigret.
-
I went to Giant supermarket and Target. When I got back home, the lights were on! Then they went out. Then they came back on and have been since about 4:15 or so. No cable tv or internet though. I'm using my phone as a "hotspot" right now.

About three years ago at Du-Par's some psycho homeless who coincidentally looked JUST like the guy in this recent video, came in and started screaming at people. I was up on my feet instantly, because there were kids there and I told him to get the "f" out or I would call the cops - he screamed a bunch of incoherent stuff but as soon as I lifted my phone to my ear he beat it. The Du-par's hostess said he was in there often and they'd have to call the police, but that he'd always beat it. My point is, someone could have filmed me telling him to get the "f" out with no context or history and that in today's asinine world would have gone viral and I'd be receiving death threats right about now. If this jerk was in there and disruptive before, I have no problem with the manger telling him to get out, whether this one time he'd paid because he'd been given money, or not.
-
I got squat today - no mail, no nothing. I did get to have a too long two-hour work session, but we got everything done. After picking up no mail, I ended up at Hugo's, which was jammed for being almost three o'clock - filled with loud-mouthed people, kids - I mean, not a holiday, folks. I got a table and had my little Caesar salad and pasta papa.
-
It's been raining here on and off, and I have to, as always, commend the morons of LA and the San Fernando Valley for losing any semblance of driving coherence and sanity. It's beyond believe, really.
-
I went to Giant supermarket and Target. When I got back home, the lights were on! Then they went out. Then they came back on and have been since about 4:15 or so. No cable tv or internet though. I'm using my phone as a "hotspot" right now.
Not surprising with those high winds.

Great public relations this morning for McDonald's restaurants. I guess if you're homeless, you can't eat there...even if you pay for it.
Very sad.
:( >:(
http://www.foxnews.com/food-drink/2018/03/01/video-homeless-man-kicked-out-mcdonalds-after-customer-buys-him-food-goes-viral.html

Very true about the little windows we see in videos. I did laugh if you really used the F word when you were protecting children :)

Knowing I did not want to be rushed for time when I read the notes I waited until now to do so.
Bruce, the song is beautiful as is your tribute to your dear friend :(
-
We received two DVDs from Netflix today, "Roman J. Israel, Esq." and "Maudie".
I think we will watch Israel, Esq first and save what I expect to be the better movie for tomorrow.
-
I hope all of our east coasters check in. Thanks to DR KEVIN for the weather report.
-
MR BK - faux outrage is in....some folks can't wait to find a situation they can put on social media to make themselves famous for a moment or two.
Too many people fall for it and give them clicks which translates into money....they are laughing all the way to the bank.
-
Well, I finally get to go home. I feel like I'm supposed to buy something at the store, but I don't know what it could be. That's happened to me before, and I don't like it. :-\
Anyway, be back later. :)
-
Starting to watch a Bogdanovich movie called The Cat’s Meow about Hearst and Marion Davies, Charles Chaplin, Louella Parsons and more.
-
I was underwhelmed by that film DR JOHN G - or maybe I just imagined the people to be larger than life, and most of them are played by rather low wattage performers.
-
It’s only okay and I’m a half-hour into it.
-
Lovely memorial to Harvey Schmidt , BK
-
So we're having a Nor'easter and the wind is whistling around the house and rattling the Windows
-
Lots of flooded roads on the way to work and a flooded basement when I got home
-
Well not really flooded ,but water had crept in beyond the towel dams I had erected before leaving this morning
-
I had to go fetch. Vixdad from the train so I threw down some more towels and hoped for the best
-
The reason I had to go fetch him was because three of the four lines from Penn Station Long Island were not running because of downed power poles, branches and lost signals
-
The train stations about 15 minutes away ,I gave myself 30. An hour later I was still not there since every single human being on Long Island was either arriving at this train station or driving a car to pick up the arrivee
-
Fortunately when I arrived at the train station I discovered Vixdad had not been standing in the rain waiting for me because he was trapped in a stalled train just outside the station
-
And even more fortunately a bunch of parking patrol police were there to turn chaos into a full blown disaster
-
Vixdad's train finally moved into the station and I finally collected him, but not before getting into a yelling match with one of the morons that was "directing" traffic
-
But we escaped , took a convoluted path home to avoid the hordes descending on the train station and retrieved his car from the station on one of then running lines
-
By then it was after 9.... I had set off to collect him before 7
-
Instead of cooking dinner I ordered in pizza and Vixdad decided I had had enough excitement and took care of the basement cleaning up
-
Dry basement vibes for Vixmom.
-
Peter Bogdanovich and the script are the real terrors of The Cat’s Meyawn. It’s just lazy.
Joanna Lumley is the best thing in the movie and she’s underutilized.
-
Best part of the disc is a Chaplin short among the extras.
-
There is ice cream in the freezer and I want some
-
But I am perfect cozy in my recliner under my super soft throw
-
Chas are you driving or training it on Sunday? I just got a great deal on parking , right by the theater , $16.20 prepaid from 1:30 - 7:30

I love Weird Al.

Finished with my viewing and listening to music.
-
Oh, just listen to me! What care I about the "streets"? It's all about My Driveway. Nothing else matters. :)
:D
-
By then it was after 9.... I had set off to collect him before 7
Oh my.
-
DR Vixmom wishing you a dry basement tomorrow.
-
I gotta tell you.
-
Good evening.

Jrand, do you have Rent-A-Center in your neck of the woods? It might not cost much to rent a tv for one day. Also, you might be able to talk the manager into loaning a tv, in exchange for posting a sign showing who donated the tv.
-
There is also one brand of smart phone that has an attachment to the phone for projecting videos on a wall.
-
Just a thought.

Excellent idea about advertising.

I never heard of that.

DR TCB how are you feeling?

I think it is the moto phone, whichever that one happens to be.

Or is it motto?

Lin-Manuel and Weird Al are both on The Tonight Show right now!

Photobucket is now offering me a deal @ $99.00 a year.
-
That is reason enough to watch Jimmy Kimmel.
-
It was a fun segment.

All day, I thought today was Saturday.

All day, I thought today was Saturday.
I hate it when that happens!
-
Last week, I was thinking that I had my union meeting last Sunday, but it's this weekend. Better that than thinking that it was next week and it was the week before.
-
Good night, George.
