Well, you've read the notes, the notes had madness, and now it is time for you to post until the mad cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: FUGACIOUS!
-
And now - Dino at the piano.
-
First post after BK!
-
And speaking of Halloween, The Rocky Horror Show that I'm working on opens on Halloween eve! :o It plays that Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at 8:00 pm, then Saturday at midnight (the only performance that day), then Sunday at 2:00 and 8:00 pm. Then it's over and onto A Christmas Story!
-
Actually, the first read-through for A Christmas Story is the very next day, November 5th.
-
And now, to bed.
Have a good day, all!
-
Bruce, to answer yesterdays question, not with me. It was a very small place called "The Hock Shop" near Gower on Sunset.
-
Good morning, all!
-
If I can survive the next four weeks without taking a leap from the roof, things might be okay. The last time things were this horrible was 1990 when a louse I thought was a good friend sacked me from a job to clear the way for his climb to replace a mutual friend - and to cozy up to a "name" conductor who thinks he is Leonard Bernstein - spread the word around that I was fired for second-rate work, and I couldn't get hired for three years until I sent a letter to BK asking if he might at some point need an orchestrator.
-
That was not my most horrendous job, although working for a bitch diva on one of BK's albums was one of the most horrendous.
-
But who's bitter?
-
Good morning, all.
-
Here’s to surviving the next four weeks - to DR Elmore, and to all the rest of us.
-
I’ll drink to that.
But you can hold the vodka stinger. Make mine a Bitch Diva. And don’t skimp on the bitters.
-
My worst work horror stories would take chapters of background prose, and in any event, they aren’t something I can revisit at this time.
-
Good morning, all.

I always love a good bitch diva story.

I have an almost phobic mentality when it comes to my resume. There are times when I can’t read it or edit it properly. I made a mistake once and an editor called me out on it in the ugliest manner possible. I now realize that I would never have wanted to work for such a bastard, but at the time it was humiliating.
-
In 1972 I was dropped from a teaching position and I thought it was the end of the world. I disliked most of my colleagues and they clearly hated me. To be fair, I was unprepared and completely lousy, but I was devastated. I retrospect it was the best thing that ever happened to me. And those colleagues are still scum and the job was horrendous.
-
Good morning!
-
Thanks to DR George and DR Jane for your travel vibes/wishes yesterday. They worked! My flight arrived early!
-
Interesting Tony Bill story from DR Jan.
-
Interesting recipe from DR George ;)

Bruce what did you drink at bars?
-
Diet Coke.

I'm always surprised that with enough ice, a Sprite blends in well as a drink.
-
I recall that bars in the 1980s didn't charge high liquor-type prices for soft drinks. (Cabaret shows that have a minimum of course charge $5 or so per drink, I guess to make sure people don't buy soft drinks just to evade the minimum. At the Triad last week, for example, the very cheapest drink of any kind for the 2-drink minimum was $6 each.)

You always want an offer, no matter how awful the job seems during the interview - unless you're on Unemployment benefits, where they expect you to take any job in your field that pays similar to what you had.
JohnG, did he point the error out in front of other people?

No. It was in a phone message.

Two!

BK, speaking of bagels, as you were in the notes: Were you able to tell if "Pink Fish" on haineshisway https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8Op9CNMKNY got extra views from the link being posted in the Times comments?
-
I'm sorry I can't comment.....I only speak to Tony Bill...
-
Well it seems that a small town about 10 miles from me is the subject of a Frederick Wiseman documentary....it is called Monrovia, Indiana.
The previews have a lot of familiar places in it....I didn't recognize any of the people.....we shall see what it does.....I guess it has played a couple of festivals.

Rehearsal vibes for MR BK & Co.

Selling the property vibes for DR ELMORE....I will burn a St. Joseph candle for you.

TOD:
I have BLOCKED such things from my mind.
-
Thursday morning greetings! It’s cold and rainy here in Memphis today, not fit for running around an unfamiliar city by myself. While Richard is in clergy meetings all day, I’m enjoying some hotel solitude. Reading and knitting are topmost on my agenda.
-
TOD - Three (count ‘em, 3) times having to apply and compete for jobs I was already doing quite competently, thank you. The last time I was prepared to walk out if I hadn’t gotten the appointment outright.
-
Good day.
-
I have been up for three hours and I still can't get motivated to do anything.
-
Ginny, enjoy your holiday.
-
Thanks, DR TCB - I think I feel a nap coming on...

I would rather have water.

When I don't want alcohol a Shirley Temple works for me, if they don't use Sprite.
I cannot drink and drive. When I was 40 a girlfriend and I stopped for lunch after a morning of shopping. We went to a nice restaurant and sat at the bar to order drinks while we waited for our table. There were very few women in the restaurant and none at the bar. I still laugh at the teasing I got when I ordered my Shirley Temple. If only my friend had been driving that day I could have indulged along with her though my way was far more entertaining.

FJL, I haven't kept up with those videos for years - so would have no way of knowing if it had spiked.
-
I'm up, I'm up - was up at five-thirty, six-thirty, and finally back to bed at seven-thirty - so maybe six-and-a-half hours of sleep.
-
At the six-thirty arising, I was on the computer when suddenly I was not on the Internet - just like that. I did a restart to no avail, then called Spectrum. It was the usual modem stopped communicating with the router silliness, so I unplugged the router, plugged it back in and all was well.
-
I also called PayPal. Apparently last night at exactly the time I was trying to use my debit card, they had a system update - doing something that would make using the debit card more pleasurable. I informed him there was nothing pleasurable about having the card declined - twice - when there was money to cover the little charge at Gelson's, and that ie was embarrassing. He apologized - and said it was the same thing the other night. I suggested to him that they inform their customers of these things in advance of them happening. They won't.
-
Then back to bed - the alarm did go off at eleven. I shut it off and went back to sleep for another hour.
-
I'm sorry I can't comment.....I only speak to Tony Bill...
Tony Bill in Big Boy reminded me of Chris Pine.

Do you have a Mac? On the MAC, when I'm in the account the video is on, there are two blue rectangular boxes at the bottom right.
One says ANALYTICS and the other says EDIT VIDEO.
ANALYTICS will give you lots of info about number of recent views, and you can toggle for other period lengths.
EDIT VIDEO is strangely named, as it just means Edit the text around the video, and change the choices you've made - not edit the video itself, it seems.

Was the site down for awhile?
-
Let’s move on
-
Three!
-
elmore, those hurt my heart!
-
I found a replacement bulb for my reading lamp. It took me two stores, but I found one.
-
I managed to leave for my errands just when a full monsoon arrived. I got soaked.
-
Greetings, 1 Guest! What is your favorite Ida Lupino film?
-
Now it's two guests! They seem to be multiplying.
-
Hello, everyone.
-
Major vibes to us all!
-
Bruce, I'm glad some of the drama has been resolved.
-
Who knew that our own DR George was such a skilled blood maker?
-
Yes, site was down for a bit - same problem with the server - I thought he was moving us a few days ago, but that hasn't happened yet - but will soon.
-
Made some spaghetti with butter and cheese - maybe six ounces.
-
Listening to a beautiful piece of music by Patrick Hadley called The Trees So High - had this on Chandos, but didn't like it. Well, the version on Lyrita is fantastic - the Chandos "sound" is washy and indistinct - the Lyrita orchestral detail is a whole other story and fantastic and the music is great when you can actually hear it like this.

I am still attempting to navigate the medical maze. I had a call from my acupuncturist this morning saying that the phone number that my HMO had given her was incorrect. I then spent an hour on the phone with the HMO, explaining that we were on a wild goose chase and looking for an alternative. I was told that my request HAD to go through my medical group, but could be submitted by my PCP. We're trying that route, but in the past the medical group has had no knowledge of the HMO's acupuncture benefits, so I don't have a lot of hope. I have the option of paying cash for my acupuncture visits, but it's clearly a medical necessity and I feel they should cough up. (Fat chance.)
Each time I deal with an HMO I am astounded by the inefficiency. We can fly to the moon, but we can't streamline these organizations. I have to ask who is benefitting from this. It certainly isn't the patients.
-
Is anyone watching BODYGUARD?
It's a big hit in the UK. Available on Netflix. I may give it a try tonight.
-
Vibes to all.
TTFN.
-
Oh! TCB, I'm glad you found a replacement bulb. I had a situation like that once. It can be a real nuisance.
-

Hmm, interesting ;D

Good.
-
elmore, those hurt my heart!
I did not open the stories. Unless there is something I can do to make a difference I do my best to avoid them, too depressing. There are enough sad stories I can do something to help or try to prevent a repeat in the future.
-
I managed to leave for my errands just when a full monsoon arrived. I got soaked.
Do need a plastic tent to cover you and your chair.
-
Yes, site was down for a bit - same problem with the server - I thought he was moving us a few days ago, but that hasn't happened yet - but will soon.
Yahoo email is currently down.
-
I feel bad for all of you that have to deal with bad HMO's. We briefly had one a number of years ago and I hated the stupidity of how it worked and the people on the phone.
I had a test done at our local hospital that is unusually a two part test. I only did one part but was billed for both parts. I called the hospital, they found the error immediately and said it would be corrected, all in a very pleasant manor.
I kindly called the HMO to explain they had been overcharged. The person on the phone yelled at me for wasting her time. Obviously I expected to be thanked for saving them money.
-

Darn. Hopefully the next time that you need one, there will be more than one available. :-\
-
Who knew that our own DR George was such a skilled blood maker?
Skilled?? I'm still just a beginner. ::)
-

We will as well. Thanks for mentioning it or should I save my thanks until after we have watched it ;)
-
Good evening.
-
I have stopped looking at the cats available for adoption since I won't be able to adopt one.
-
Smart move DR Laura. It is too depressing to follow the stories when you can't adopt one. I have also stopped looking at cats and dogs available for adoption.

I am slowly reading Anne Tyler's "Back When We Were Grownups" for my book discussion on Monday. I am bored and missing most of the humor. Maybe it is my mood, or I am just not into her writing style, or I do recall the movie and that it was better than the book.
-
I forgot to charge my tablet today, and then forgot to check that it was charging. Two things I normally do and missed both of them :o

Well, I'm off to the sitzprobe for Rocky. I'm going to try to fix the blood color so that it's not so brown. I brought the clear detergent and bought some more red food coloring. I'm sure that it'll help...we'll see!
Be back later.

Greetings, 1 Guest! What is your favorite Ida Lupino film?
Road House!

As I recall, the fondant and the grandfather figure got a little tiresome to me, but I loved the food humor. The movie, well, had Blythe Danner, one of my favorites, so I loved it.
-
Started watching the latest version of The Seagull. Great cast. Annette Bening is Arkadina, the role I saw Joanne Woodward play onstage. She's ugly, fearless and right. Brian Dennehy, Soairse Ronan, Mare Winningham and Elisabeth Moss are among the rest of the cast.
-
I won't be able to stop watching this Seagull tonight until it's over. It's that good.
-
Yes, site was down for a bit - same problem with the server - I thought he was moving us a few days ago, but that hasn't happened yet - but will soon.
We went out for dinner and our server was wonderful.
TCB, I wonder if one of those extra guests you saw was me, when I checked the site from my phone, but wasn't logged in.

Fortunately it is completely charged now so I can read myself to sleep.

I should have watched the movie again instead ;)

Back to the book.
-
That was strange. It took 3 attempts to get autocorrect to stop capitalizing THE BOOK even though I was typing in lower case.
-
Well, I'm off to the sitzprobe for Rocky. I'm going to try to fix the blood color so that it's not so brown. I brought the clear detergent and bought some more red food coloring. I'm sure that it'll help...we'll see!
Be back later.
So, I didn't get to fix the blood tonight. The bottle of blood that I brought last night had already been packed into Anita's car. Anita is the other person working on props. The cast didn't need any props for the sitzprobe, so the stage manager and Anita packed up what they could into their cars to bring to the theater on Saturday morning. I'll bring what I have on Saturday, fix the blood, the see how things go!
-
Page FOUR? Really?
-
Back from filming an interview for the theater and then our rehearsal, about which more in the notes.
-
Good evening.
-
Nasty day today. The rain is supposed to ramp up overnight and the clar up Friday afternoon.
-
I am meeting my sister and her husband for lunch tomorrow.
-
We have decided to go to the Cheescake Factory at the Tacoma Mall.
-
We are meeting at 1:00, but I should get there an hour early, just to read the entire menu.
-
But I will just open the menu and point.
-
My real concern is what kind of cheesecake to order for dessert!
-
I guess we are having rehearsal next week, even though those days were not marked on our initial schedule.
-
On Saturday, I am having lunch with my friend Tracy and our mutual friend, Martin.
-
Next Wednesday, Martin is leaving town to go back and work at Mount Rainier.
-
So our lunch will probably turn into a four hour affair.
-
One more post.
-
Page Five.
-
Hi, Tom.
-
Gratuitous Post #122!
-
Martin will be working up at the mountain as a chef in one of the restaurants inside the park.

Hi, George.

HOWEVER, speaking of Mount Rainier: Government ranks 18 US volcanoes as 'very high threat' (https://www.msn.com/en-us/weather/topstories/government-ranks-18-us-volcanoes-as-very-high-threat/ar-BBOSXdN?OCID=ansmsnnews11).
WASHINGTON — Government scientists are classifying 18 U.S. volcanoes as a "very high threat" because of what's been happening inside them and how close they are to people.
The U.S. Geological Survey is updating its volcano threat assessments for the first time since 2005. The danger list is topped by Hawaii's Kilauea, which has been erupting this year. The others in the top five are Mount St. Helens and Mount Rainier in Washington, Alaska's Redoubt Volcano and California's Mount Shasta.
The agency says a dozen volcanoes have jumped in threat level since 2005. Twenty others dropped in threat level.
Among those where the threat score is higher are Alaska's Redoubt, Mount Okmok, Akutan Island and Mount Spurr. Threat scores also rose for Oregon's Newberry Volcano and Wyoming's Yellowstone.
There are 161 active U.S. volcanoes.

Well, that was a given. ;)
-
Goodnight, George.
-
Good night, Tom.
-
Well, I really need to go to sleep. Last night (or yesterday morning, since it's after midnight), I think I only got about four hours of sleep. :P I was in bed but for some reason, just couldn't fall asleep. Fortunately, that rarely happens. So, I'm going to bed now with the hope that I can actually fall asleep.
Good night and have a great day tomorrow, all!
