And speaking of Halloween, The Rocky Horror Show that I'm working on opens on Halloween eve!

It plays that Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at 8:00 pm, then Saturday at midnight (the only performance that day), then Sunday at 2:00 and 8:00 pm. Then it's over and onto A Christmas Story!

If I can survive the next four weeks without taking a leap from the roof, things might be okay. The last time things were this horrible was 1990 when a louse I thought was a good friend sacked me from a job to clear the way for his climb to replace a mutual friend - and to cozy up to a "name" conductor who thinks he is Leonard Bernstein - spread the word around that I was fired for second-rate work, and I couldn't get hired for three years until I sent a letter to BK asking if he might at some point need an orchestrator.

I have an almost phobic mentality when it comes to my resume. There are times when I can’t read it or edit it properly. I made a mistake once and an editor called me out on it in the ugliest manner possible. I now realize that I would never have wanted to work for such a bastard, but at the time it was humiliating.

In 1972 I was dropped from a teaching position and I thought it was the end of the world. I disliked most of my colleagues and they clearly hated me. To be fair, I was unprepared and completely lousy, but I was devastated. I retrospect it was the best thing that ever happened to me. And those colleagues are still scum and the job was horrendous.

I'm always surprised that with enough ice, a Sprite blends in well as a drink.

I recall that bars in the 1980s didn't charge high liquor-type prices for soft drinks. (Cabaret shows that have a minimum of course charge $5 or so per drink, I guess to make sure people don't buy soft drinks just to evade the minimum. At the Triad last week, for example, the very cheapest drink of any kind for the 2-drink minimum was $6 each.)

You always want an offer, no matter how awful the job seems during the interview - unless you're on Unemployment benefits, where they expect you to take any job in your field that pays similar to what you had.
