Title: TOO MANY WORDS
Post by: bk on April 29, 2019, 12:04:21 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes had too many words, and now it is time for you to post until the too many cows come home.

Without a doubt, I am a hoarder.  Most of all, I hoard mail.  Magazines, catalogs, mail of all sorts.  It used to be easier, when I would occasionally get a stick up my butt, and it would all go out to the trash in one fell swoop.  Now days, you have to worry about identity theft, so you can’t do that anymore.

Actually, I read an article once, that said if you think you are a hoarder, then you probably aren’t one.  True hoarders can never recognize it in themselves.  Instead you are probably just lazy.

Yup.  I know I'm not a hoarder...I'm a procrastinator.  When I clean, I CAN get (and have gotten) rid of stuff:  old clothes, recyclables, expired food ( ::) ), kitty litter, things like that that true hoarders can't.  I haven't really cleaned in a while because I just haven't been the mood to do it.

Starting today at work for the next few days, our parking lot will be unavailable.  They're going to grind it down and resurface it, or however they do that sort of thing.  They're going to do half of the front lot, then the other half, then the area in the back.  I plan on not taking up one of the limited spaces by walking to work...at least, that's the plan.  We'll see if I make it. ;)

Tonight is the annual HOA meeting, and the first without our previous property manager, whose contract wasn't renewed earlier this year. :P She was good to this place.  I don't know what happened.  I think some new board members just got bees in their bonnets and are the type to complain just for the sake of complaining, and Shelly was the collatoral damage.  Just a theory, of course.

I know we took at least one group shot of all of us

We posted several here at the time  but that was the old site and I don't know how to find them

A dangerous TOD for the likes of moi.
Just a summary list of, um, lists:

Books and a few magazines
Records, CDs
Laserdiscs, DVDs, Blu-rays
Musical scores of various types
Concert & theater programs, roadshow movie programs
Commodore computer and related books & ephemera
Some mid-century US regional & travel books & various kitschy ephemera
Probably one or two things I'm forgetting

Much of the above are "accumulations" as opposed to formal "collections", but each has its own sub-categories that are indeed collections in the "Must Have The Entire Set" sense. I'm also not a Hoarder in today's generally accepted sense, but I know that the more I can rid myself of, the more meaningful and manageable the "collections" will become. It's a difficult process, no question, (so, in that sense I'm hoarding), but I was able to do some of this in a big way several years ago, and there's more to come.

I have several film photos and some autographed photos....several movie posters and pressbooks.

Nothing really rare or collectible.....I suppose the most valuable of my collection would be my inscribed Frances Farmer photograph and letter, a couple of notes handwritten by Allison Hayes, and my first edition ATLAS SHRUGGED.......

Something I was just looking at or reading popped an image into my head which took me a moment to identify. It turned out to be my main dream which had been forgotten since I woke up. In it, I was walking through a theater where Barbara Bush was sorting through these job applications, when she called my name, told me “this looks excellent”, and started to explain what information I still needed to provide before the interview — something about “what is the estate worth” — when I realized it was only a dream and woke up.

Jo Loesser and I made two memorable trips together in 1997, the first was to Logan, Utah, in July to help the Utah Festival Opera with a wonderful production of Greenwillow.  I was in charge of all the musical revisions, and I had been in Utah from the week before July 4 through July 5, supervising things.  After the July 4 orchestra rehearsal, I flew back to Manhattan and Jo flew to Salt Lake City.  Two days later, she called me and said, I need you here tomorrow!  And around 5:30am, I boarded a flight back to Salt Lake City, where I spent two weeks on the production - she wanted me to rescore "Coulda Been A Ring," which I did - and palling around that part of Utah with Jo as a most entertaining chauffeur.

In November, I realized I had absolutely no work lined up to get me through the New Year, so I applied for a Christmas job at Barnes & Noble.  I dropped off the application around 6:00pm, and the next morning I got a call about an interview.  I went in, spoke to the first floor manager, and was hired.  When I got home, there was a phone call from Jo.  She needed to book my ticket for London.  I had been working on some of the cut material from The Most Happy Fella for a new recording, and Jo decided she needed me there as the editor.  My memories of that trip - besides the wonderful company, musicians, and dinners - was Christmas shopping and antique hunting with Jo in early December.  She was so much fun.

Pointless or not, 10:00am is a reasonable time to be doing outside work.   I feel for you because you go to bed late & wake up late while your neighbors are up earlier.

Very nice memories, Larry.

Over the years I have let go, or lost in the move, my little collection.  I have only a few postcards from my childhood collection.

At one time I had a fairly large collection of rocks, and I could tell you where they all came from.  With each move Keith would say they were too heavy, get rid of them.  Into a bad they would go shoved into the bottom of a box ;D

Keith still thinks I have too many rocks though I did give up a lot of them with the last move.  I have a few nice once outside to use as door stops.  The rest are in my office scattered around, in my desk drawer, or in the office closet along with some of my extra dolls.

Yes, I have a doll collection.  Most of them were gifts from Keith.  Even though he thinks I have too many rocks, and am a hoarder, if took a pretty rock off of the beach at one of the little islands in Greenland for me.

When we walk beaches Keith also waits while I stop and pick up rocks on the way.  I have gotten better about leaving them behind.

Oh, forgot to mention that I'm up - six hours of sleep - or did I mention it?  This is what happens, folks.  Back from picking up three important envelopes and a couple of packages.  A good day so far, save for the snotty teller at the bank, someone I haven't had before.  All the others are great.  Then Subway for the meal o' the day so that I can do 1000 calories without thinking about it.

Subway sounds good, but I'm making do with whatever's in the house this evening. Just taking it easy, because tomorrow and the next day are the two HELL DAYS of this run thanks to student shows first thing in the morning.

First thing in the morning, people.

I'll be up by six in the a.m., out of here by 6:30, and whatever I grab at the first Dunkin' Donuts will have to get me through the next five hours.

Annabelle and I finished Season 3 of Poirot. My friend Jim Norton (Finian of the last Finian's Rainbow revival) was the victim in the season closer.  I've seen him play a killer on Midsomer Murders.

They do find the most beautiful ladies who look great in 1930s haute couture and run the gamut from innocent ingenue to hardboiled killer in one exposition, and David Suchet and Hugh Fraser are a fantastic Holmes and Watson.

I agree.  David Suchet is the one and only Poirot.  He is exactly how I envisioned Poirot when I read the books.

Earlier I'd eaten the foot-long Subway club and it just wasn't very good.  But the six-inch spicy Eyetalian this evening was perfect.  Go know.  So, right at 1000 calories now.  I might think about a two-hundred calorie treat, but I don't know what that would be exactly.
