Well, you've read the notes, the notes were happy to report it's Easter, and now it is time for you to post until the Easter cows come home.

I was just about to post this about Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker last night, but the day got locked:

I actually bought the 4K Ultra HD version of it because it was the same price as the regular 2-disc Blu-ray, but this was available with free (and two-day) shipping from Amazon itself.  None of the regular Blu-ray copies were sold by Amazon itself, only market sellers with no free (or two-day) shipping.  What's that all about?? :o

Today, I'm going to my sister's to help put together a wooden thing for her daughter's chickens to play on.  I'm not exactly sure what it's called...a gym or the chicken equivalent of a short but wide cat tree.  Whatever it is, it'll take a while.  It'll be kind of easy, but not quick. ::)

And now, I'm off to bed to not dream about wooden chicken cat tree gym things. ;)

Have a good day, all!

Last night I had two dreams I remember.  In the first one I was had to move the old Toyland office to another office on the same floor.  Matthew Brookshire, the office manager of the Packard Humanities Institute project, was the office manager and we were having a hard time getting phone service.  Then, the head of the foundation that did the Dublin recordings showed up to shoot promotional video.  The person supervising the video was my grad school roommate who died several years ago.

The second dream was about my friend Rob Berman who told me that he had decided not to conduct my recording of Rodgers & Hart's Too Many Girls.  We had a discussion about Kurt Weill's orchestration, although how we got to that from Richard Rodgers is beyond me now!

BK, Easter and Passover overlap about 75 to 80% of the time.  The Last Supper celebrated by Jesus and the Disciples was actually a Seder.  They don’t always coincide because of the differences in the two calendars.

I guess that's something.

To me it is chocolate bunnies.  Growing up we never did much for Easter.  My parents got us a treat, if they thought about it.  For our boys I did nice Easter baskets filled with little toys I spent months collecting.  Also included was some candy.  A carrot was left out for the Easter bunny.

Because of the pets I never did Easter egg hunts in the house.  They did get invited to a few of those elsewhere.

I like that you could send her flowers and there was someone to receive them for your mother.  I thought of sending our daughter in-law flowers for her first Mother's Day.  If Bryan isn't there she would have to leave the baby to go down stairs & outside to get them.  I'll pass.

For our live streaming, you can watch on YouTube or on the church's website. One camera in place. It can move around the front of the church, but that's probably the limit of our volunteer cameraman. (Cameraperson?) One thing I've found odd, too, is that there seems to be a one-hour time limit. When the service threatens to go over, the video freezes, but the audio continues.

So, when they do an Easter service via Zoom or however they're doing it - can everyone see each other or is it just the service itself?

You can be seen or you can disable the camera feature and your name just appears in the window.  With everyone’s face in its own window it kind of looks like the Brady Bunch opening.  We even did communion today.  The church got individually wrapped wafers, one of the nearby priests consecrated them, and they were delivered to households yesterday.  Everyone else received only one element, but because I’m quarantined with the priest, I had both bread and wine.

There were some amusing questions about David Cassidy and the show.  I had a good time, but I can't say Google Groups is the way to do one of these things.  The quality is terrible and if anyone's mic is open and someone else is talking you get a horrible echo effect.

Okay, you asked, you get.  Here's the first of three Li'l Abner clips.  Here's Jubilation T. Cornpone from the Los Angeles City College production of Li'l Abner, directed by Bruce Kimmel, choreographed by Kay Cole, and featuring guest artists Evan Buckley Harris as Abner, Madison Claire Parks as Daisy Mae,  Barry Pearl as General Bullmoose, and John Massey as Marryin' Sam (who won a Robby Award for this performance) - the rest of the cast was made up of students.  Wayne Moore is the musical director.   Here's the caveat: this was shot at the first dress rehearsal with an invited audience.  It was the first time the band actually played the show, save for the sitzprobe, so that's rough.  But you'll get the idea how much fun this was.

The butter roasted halibut came out well. Well, the fish did. The vegetables with it were a little underdone, so if I try this again, I hope I can remember to saute the vegetables a little ahead of time. I tried with garlic butter sauteed mushrooms on the side. Excellent.

It may be a Passover food.  The guy across the hall from me in school used to announce he was playing "hide the salami" with his boyfriend, and during Passover they played "hide the afikomen" - but it sounds like it was the same Jewish ceremony.

There are days I feel like I may be aging into becoming Sophia from "Golden Girls" the closer I get to 60.

Time for a little Hitchcock. Tonight is North by Northwest.

We did a spoof of that in law school. It even had a Crop-duster video game that consumed a third of the budget, but it got a mention in the Crimson (the undergraduate paper):
https://www.thecrimson.com/article/1983/3/10/legal-ease-pbwbhile-reporters-from-society/

"Even the special effects are respectable. In the movie North by Northwest, Cary Grant was chased across a cornfield by a cropduster. In the law school parody, Thornbook plays a video game called "Cropduster" which seizes his leg and starts to spit out real bullets that convincingly explode against a wooden backdrop."

I didn't work on the Cropduster, but I did co-write the production number  which had as its one dramatic purpose, to  distract the audience from the Cropduster being set up.

Mom turned 93 yesterday.  She had a quiet day, I sent flowers the day before and her caretaker made her an angel food cake with I think they call it 7 minute frosting.  It's sort of like marshmallows.  it's her favorite and she loves lots of frosting.  My brother got her pan fried chicken from this place at the lake she loves and today they will bring her dinner.   She's happy

I like that you could send her flowers and there was someone to receive them for your mother.  I thought of sending our daughter in-law flowers for her first Mother's Day.  If Bryan isn't there she would have to leave the baby to go down stairs & outside to get them.  I'll pass.

They do it contactless, so they set them down at your door, call you and wait until you pick them up outside your door.   Mom is perfectly fine to go to the door get the phone etc, she just doesn't answer the phone if she doesn't feel like it, so I had to make sure Krista would be there

Easter is my least favorite holiday in the Christian calendar,  I've never understood any of the mythology behind it beyond the incorporation of pagan spring rituals.  I at least understand the mythology behind Christmas and Saturnalia.

Sometime when we lived in Colorado (when I was between 7 and 10 years old), my parents hid Easter baskets for me and my sister.  She found hers, but I couldn't find mine. :( My mom was the one who hid it, but she couldn't remember where she hid it!  I think she figured that it would turn up eventually, so she started making breakfast...pancakes and bacon and eggs...the usual stuff.  As was her wont, she turned on the oven so that when she finished the pancakes, she could put them in there to keep warm while she made something else.

Well, it didn't take long for us all to smell melting plastic and THEN my mom remembered where she put my Easter basket...IN THE OVEN!  And it wasn't actually a basket, it was a big plastic bowl filled with plastic Easter grass and chocolate eggs!  It was all melting! :o FORTUNATELY, the whole bowl didn't melt, just some of the edges, but the plastic grass didn't survive.  I think the chocolate was okay after it cooled down and re-solidified. ;)

Finished with the group thing - it was fun in its way.  I spoke, I answered questions for about ninety minutes.  Now I must eat.  None of the Door Dash places I was interested in are open today.  So, I have stuff here or I can do to McDonald's which isn't thrilling-sounding to me.

After setting up the chicken thing at my sister's, I drove through Taco Bell and got a Burrito Supreme.  I hadn't had one in quite a while but it was very tasty. :)

Back from a short drive.  Drove by a Burger King - about ten police vehicles there, lights blinking - since it's only open for takeout one wonders what's going on there.

Maybe someone went in pretending to pick up an order, went into the bathroom and tried to steal one of the big, giant rolls of toilet paper.

It could happen.

She's happy

A Very Happy (if belated) Birthday to your mother, Cillaliz! :D

Thank you. George

Did anyone receive their stimulus payment?  Some were sent yesterday......and more will be sent out this week to those with Direct Deposit.

I had to pay but did it from my bank account, so I'm wondering if I'll get mine direct deposit or have to wait for a check in May

Love seeing a bit of the ensemble work in Jubilation.

I know you don’t intend to show any more, but I’m dying here trying to imagine what the Sadie Hawkins Ballet must have looked like.

The band is so rough on Sadie Hawkins - they'd only done the sitzprobe prior to this dress, and by the second dress and first preview it was much better.  You certainly get an idea of the ballet, which I staged as Kay was out with a cracked rib, and it's really fun, but the ending is excruciating to listen to.  I wasn't happy with the fiddle player at all - needed one like we had in Hit Song, who really understood that kind of thing.  He got better during the run.  And I cut the overture in half (having already cut it in half) after this dress and that helped a lot, but it's fun to watch.  It frosts me that we never got to film again thanks to the idiot then-chair of the department who, as I've mentioned, would be fired about six months later, indirectly because of something he did involving me.  That was the best thing to happen to the department.  His concern was that the licensing company forbade any kind of taping and I'm thinking, yeah, so what, everyone does an archival taping to have a record of the show and staging, but he wouldn't budge.  I even went to the licensing company and they were just you'd expect they'd be.  I'll see if there's anything else to extract.

So...I was just on www.Playbill.com watching the one-minute preview of the filmed Broadway production of Bandstand that's available now to stream for three days for $6.99 as a fund raiser (https://www.playbill.com/article/playbill-will-stream-broadways-bandstand-musical-film-starring-laura-osnes-and-corey-cott) until April 17.  I LOVE this show!  I saw when it was shown in the theaters as a Fathom Event.

When the short video ended, as usual, a bunch of links to other Playbill.com videos came up.  BUT one of the links was for the full-length show!! :o I don't think that it's supposed to be there because they're supposed to be charging $6.99 to watch it, but right now, I can watch it for free.

I also found that I can't copy a link to that specific video.  When I click on the Share button at the bottom of the video frame, the link that's there is for the original one-minute video preview, not the full-length show.  I LOVE this show and had already decided to pay the extremely reasonable $6.99 to watch it, and I still am, but at least I'll be able to watch this until I turn off my computer. :D

Well, it turns out that the full-length video showed up more than once!  HERE (https://www.playbill.com/video/watch-corey-cott-and-laura-osnes-in-bandstand-on-broadway) is the one-minute video.  If you click Pause once the video starts (after any ad), the full-length show MIGHT show up as an option!

It is the same here.  You can't always do that with a baby :)

9,385 died here so far...

188,695 confirmed  cases. But considering how many remain untested...

:(   Your co-worker is a perfect example of those untested that should be.

DR George I would like to see a video of the chickens playing on their chicken tree.

I'll as my niece to film something, if they do.  After I put it together and we moved it into their back yard, the chickens just walked right around it.  I think my niece will have to put them on the thing so that they know that it's for them. ;)

I think the chocolate was okay after it cooled down and re-solidified. ;)

:))

You could find out the name of a florist near their home, call up and order the flowers, and have them marked for pick-up at a time Bryan could pick them up.  The card and flowers would be from you, but the delivery by your son.
