Well, you've read the notes, the notes were western and had a little sauerkraut to keep them piquant, and now it is time for you to post until the sauerkraut cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: STEWARDSHIP!
-
And a very happy birthday to dear reader Laura's darling daughter Sandra.
-
First post after BK.
-
First post after Tom.
-
A Very Happy Birthday to Sandra! :D
-
Happy Birthday, Sandra!
-
T.O.D.
Lots of fast food and lots of frozen food (usually thawed).
-
May 3 is my mother’s birthday.
-
Good night and good morning.
-
Apparently we just had a 3.8 earthquake. I say apparently because everyone on Facebook is going nuts. I felt absolutely nothing here. Zip. And I am VERY sensitive to these things. So, don't know where these people were feeling it - one friend in Studio City mentioned as did Grant's wife, who's only a mile from here. Weird.
-
Topic of the Day: some frozen stuff (small pizzas, pigs-in-a-blanket things from Costco are the most recent), pick-up and drive-thru from local restaurants (something different every time to support the locals), and food at my parents' house every time I go over there. ;)
-
Good night, Tom.
-
Now I'm hungry. I'm thinking frozen stuff for tomorrow. Got to lay off the pasta for a few days.
-
I have three Marie Callendar's frozen things here. Plus two large pepperoni pizzas but I can't imagine those would be any good, but who knows.
-
Good morning, all!
-
I dreamed that a neighbor had asked me to cook dinners for a friend after his surgery, and she kept giving me menus for things I didn't know how to cook, like beef Wellington or chicken Tetrazzini.
-
Otherwise, I slept well. Annabelle joined me around 4:00, and suddenly my bed was filled with cats.
-
Today I will make chili. Once I've tidied the apartment, I will chop onions and garlic.
-
Good morning, all.
-
It’s Wednesday, right? Why aren’t we asking BK a question?
-
Wednesday......and it's not ASK BK DAY. Who is in charge of the STEWARDSHIP of this joint?
-
TOD:
Cooking mostly pasta dishes. I make a meatloaf now and then....and of course the usual frozen pizza or tv dinner now and then.
Lots of cookies!
-
I think making the deviled eggs two different ways has been a highlight of my culinary adventures. I don’t make those often.
-
I remain unstimulated......
-
I've taken the ground beef out of the fridge to thaw, and I've finished kitty cleanup. Annabelle and Thatch are being quite affectionate this morning. Stella's stalking the pigeons on the fire escape.
-
Where is our DR vixmom this morning?
-
T.O.D.
What am I eating while staying at home?
Whatever my wife feeds me.
:D
-
I fell asleep in my TV chair last night
Woke up about 4 AM.
I've been writing ever since.
-
Good morning, all.
-
I started watching THE WOMEN last night and was impressed by the pacing of the opening sequence. Unfortunately, even though I had felt wide awake and rarin' to go, do you know what happens when you start watching a movie late at night from a distinctly horizontal position on your bed? The answer is not hard to figure out. I think I lasted about fifteen minutes. And you know what? I'd never even thought to set the DVR for it. So...
Some other time!
-
TOD: More quesadillas than the law allows.
-
See, I'll bet no one here even knew about that damned law concerning the consumption of quesadillas.
I've felt safe so far because I haven't yet detected any of Them watching my house. And indeed, why should they suspect me? ME? Nevertheless, one must remain vigilant.
-
Good morning!
-
It's now on the Information Super Highway DR CHAS SMITH - violation will be noted by officials.
-
Fifteen minutes is better than nothing.
-
I am finishing up my chicken pasta salad, and weather wise it is supposed to be the best day of the week today. I may make chili tomorrow or Saturday.....
-
I just saw a recent photo of KC as in .....and the Sunshine Band....I feel much better about my current physical state.
-
I put on my gloves and mask and went to the post office to purchase some stamps.....only one person ahead of me....a woman my age with NO mask or gloves.....and one person behind me - ibid....
Then I traveled down - well around since the town square is still closed because of the tornado damage two weeks ago - to the Pet Supplies Plus store......
I like to get Conrad Birdie Barnum's seed there because I can buy two kinds of seed in bulk and mix them for him....
No one else in mask.....but the clerk did have on gloves.....
-
And now I have no reason to go out for the next week or ten days....by then things will be improving or getting worse.....
-
And now I have no reason to go out for the next week or ten days....by then things will be improving or getting worse.....
That’s safe to say.
-
Tom & George thank you for the birthday wishes.
-
My condolences to Tracy, dear friend of TCB :(
-
DR TCB I understand about leaving the water bowl out. Maybe a baby step, pour the water out and leave the bowl.

Has anyone ordered stamps online? I have considered doing that though the time we went into the post office it was basically empty.

Wednesday morning greetings!
TOD - my own cooking. I've been pretty vocal over the last few years that I'd be happy never to cook another meal, but it was plain to me on March 12 that I'd have a renewed responsibility in that area of our lives. So far, it hasn't been bad, but I do have to say I really miss going to a restaurant had having someone bring me a meal I didn't have to think up, shop for, prepare, and clean up after.
One of my strategies is to cook something that will yield leftovers that can be frozen. Right now, there's half of a cooked pork roast in our freezer. We enjoyed the first half as a meal and as sliced pork barbecue and, eventually, I'll thaw what's left and figure out something to do with it. Today, we'll finish up the meat loaf I made on Sunday. We also try to order from a local restaurant at least once a week, so that may be coming up tomorrow or Friday.

Yes, I placed an order last week and this morning received the email notification that my stamps have been shipped. After my experience in our local bakery a couple of weeks ago, I really don't have any desire to go into the post office.
-
Thanks. I will plan to order in advance if I need them. Was there a charge to have them mailed?
-
Thanks. I will plan to order in advance if I need them. Was there a charge to have them mailed?
Here's something from the email I received:
"All stamp and philatelic orders are charged a $1.30 Handling Fee on domestic orders of up to $50.00, and $1.80 if the order is greater than $50. These fixed handling fees apply to only the portion of the order total that is stamp and philatelic products."
Worth every penny, in my opinion...
-
I agree.
-
Bryan can't find yeast & I have 3 packets. I put them in an envelope to mail today. I hope I don't regret putting them in a padded envelope. If I did that I would need to go to the post office.
-
Just so you know:
There’s a new moon in dependable Taurus today that’s focused on doing concrete things that can have very real effects on your future. Have you just started a new romantic relationship or friendship? Are you looking for ways to improve your career or financial situation?
This Taurus new moon energy promotes hard work that produces tangible results, so it’s a great time to really focus on ways to improve all areas of your future. The Bull’s energy helps you notice the things that aren’t currently working in your life—and then encourages you to form a clear plan on how to obtain a better outcome in the future.
-
My frugality prohibits my paying the $1.30.....although that may change.
The stamps I bought should to November or December though.
-
Happy belated birthday to KEITH.
-
Happy Birthday to SANDRA!
-
Happy belated birthday to KEITH.
Thank you.
-
At home we are eating much as usual. What we aren't doing is purchasing filler salads at the market deli counter, which I don't miss at all.
-
I miss our weekly meals out and a drink to go with them.
-
Where is our DR vixmom this morning?
I didn’t get a chance to post before work. Just finishing lunch and I just get back to the office. There’s only three of us in today
-
Happy birthday, Sandra! Are you having cherpumple?
-
Three!

Oh we know, we know...and now we have your written confession....well, just expect a knock upon the door
-
We’ll bring a host’s gift, like a clean empty plate.
-
And an appetite.
-
I'm up, I'm up - seven hours of sleep.
-
Been dealing with texts and e-mails.
-
I think the chili turned out rather well.

I didn't see anyone going nuts, just commenting-lol. I do have one upset friend but that is because she lost power on top of the earthquake & everything else going on. I don't believe the two are connected.
DR Jeanne did you feel it? You are closer to it than Bruce is.
-
ChasSmith, a package arrived in today’s mail. Many thanks.
Oh, show us the way to the next whiskey bar ...
-
I think the chili turned out rather well.
Good. It’s too hot to cook here. I’ve been eating carrots, cheese and fruit all day. Okay, and some popsicles.
-
We have 12,438 cases in Indiana - 661 deaths - and there is no county map today.....
-
ChasSmith, a package arrived in today’s mail. Many thanks.
Oh, show us the way to the next whiskey bar ...
Indeed!
(Let me know if any problem playing it. Sometimes you never know with these things, and I can always do it over.)
-
I meant to look this up last week when we were talking about it:
In that first season (1979-80), Stratas and Levine take "The Alabama Song" at a leisurely tempo, which I took for granted until I heard the following season's broadcast and it was taken quite fast. But I am now reminded it was Ariel Bybee singing Jenny then.
However, the listing for that season shows Stratas singing one, and only one, performance before Bybee took the role for the rest of the season. I wonder what was up with that. She'd been singing Lulu early in the season, but those were finished before Mahagonny.
-
Ah, and now I'm reminded that that season was nearly cancelled due to labor disputes.
-
Happy Birthday Sandra! I miss your stories

You have surpassed us :(
-
The sun is still shining here at 6:15 p.m. and will continue to do so until about 8:45 p.m.
-
I have seen parts of a couple of German westerns.....Old Shatterhand, I think.....but I didn't finish watching either of them.
-

I live on the Suffolk Nassau border, about 40 miles from NYC
-
I'm up again. I had to go back to sleep. Oh, well.
-
Hello, everyone.
-
I keep hearing that everyone's home with nothing to do, but I've had more to do than usual and simply can't keep up. One must stay current with the news these days, as everything changes so quickly. I'm not fully caught up on the posts, either.
-
I don’t know the meaning of caught up.
-
There was most definitely an earthquake here last night. I was just about to go to bed when there was quite a jolt, one of those over-quickly shakes as opposed to the rolling kind that seem to last forever. I didn't hear where it was centered, but it was strong enough for me to check to see if any of the windows had cracked.
I was expecting aftershocks, but didn't feel any. I was surprised I was able to sleep. Insomnia is bad enough on its own, without earthquakes -- or the fear thereof -- adding to it.
-
I don’t know the meaning of caught up.
I can relate to that!
-
Hi, John G.
-
Happy Birthday to former DR Sandra!
Vibes you've been having a great day.
-
Belated birthday wishes to DH Keith!
-
Hi, Jeanne.
-
TOD:
Lask week was Pasta Week, which is now morphing into Pasta Month, I think. I used to love pasta and prepare it frequently, but gave it up due to allergies. I'm now trying several different kinds of gluten-free pasta, all of which have been quite good. I ordered some pesto, which could make an interesting change. I'm also thinking about trying to make a vegan alfredo sauce. John G or Jane, if you (or anyone) has a recipe I'd like to take a look.
-
Just saw that Shirley Knight died in San Marcos, which is about halfway between Druxy and me.
-
The problem with cooking at home is that you first need to stock the pantry, which is difficult when so many of the shelves are bare. For me, cooking at home means eating different foods than I've been eating out and these are not foods I have had on hand.
-
Bruce, it's too bad there's no Louise's Trattoria near you. They've been having Take-out Tuesdays, with some great deals.
-
There's an Italian restaurant near the Mexican place that is having good deals, too, but with zip on their website. You have to happen by and see the sign, then go inside. Many of these little eateries have the right idea, but don't know how to advertise. Or, understandably, can't afford it.
-
Yesterday I needed to run an errand at the little mom-and-pop pharmacy. I checked their website ahead of time to make sure they were still open. Yes. But when I got there the door was locked. There were a great many signs posted on the door, which I was reading when an employee came to the door. "Step back to the gray tape!" she ordered. I'm happy to comply, but everyone has their own way of doing things; there is no standard these days. They didn't have what I needed, but I learned that they have N-95 masks, which I wouldn't have guessed.
-
I then stopped at the little bagel bakery a few doors down. I had thought they'd gone out of business. There's a Whole Foods Market across the street, and they sell bagels, too -- or did so until recently. No more bakery goods at WF. But the bakery has survived by now becoming a deli also. The sandwich they made me was pretty good and their bagels have always been good.
It's always surprised me that there aren't more places that make a good sandwich at a reasonable price. They may have found a niche.
-
I had no idea this wasn't Tuesday.
-
Bad.
-
We HAD a wonderful Louise's in Studio City - it's now a Tender Greens, the kind of jernt I would never walk into.
-
Ran the motor car motor for about thirty minutes.
-
By the way, if you haven't liked the Kritzerland Upstairs at Vitello's page on Facebook, that's where this live show will be living: https://www.facebook.com/KritzerlandUpstairsatVitellos/
-
We've waffled back and forth as to whether it should be my own page or not and we're still waffling.
-
I keep hearing that everyone's home with nothing to do, but I've had more to do than usual and simply can't keep up. One must stay current with the news these days, as everything changes so quickly. I'm not fully caught up on the posts, either.
I seem to be busier than usual and accomplishing less.
-
I find myself dreading grocery shopping. Most people around here wear masks and are considerate, but there are some who don't. And aren't. I'd love to have everything delivered or available at curbside, but the places I shop just don't offer it.
-

Yes, same here. Grocery shopping takes longer, even my online orders. Plus I spend even more time with the news. My focus isn't as good. No Brian to help me out. Arranging health care is a challenge, too.

Stay safe.

Once when I was up in Quebec, where the food is WONDERFUL, I asked if the chef was willing to try an alfredo sauce without the cheese. He consented. It wasn't bad. I must first obtain the ingredients I need, then experiment.

Both of these are a problem for the little coffee shop near us. The web site ha some stupid blog from 2010 and nothing about the coffee shop or the menu. The Facebook page isn't much better.

Weather permitting tomorrow I am going to try and get a toasted bagel, if they are still selling them, with cream cheese at the little coffee shop. The son of the woman who owns the shop has been working there. I won't get it from him, however, if the owner is behind the counter I will order something and then leave a very nice tip. I want her to have the money.

Good luck. I would rather do without than have "wasn't bad". I have had some traditional fettuccine alfredo I couldn't eat it while the people around me were enjoying it. It was really bad & I have had the best from Alfredo's.

It's the past tense of ketchup.
;)
-
Thinking about food but not ready to commit. Grant was supposed to come over and get this tripod ring light thing set up, but it's almost six so maybe another day.
-
Finishing up this Shavian disc. Tonight's feature is You Never Can Tell. I don't know it.
-
Just saw that Shirley Knight died in San Marcos, which is about halfway between Druxy and me.
I read that just before coming here. :(

I would suggest you google and read around. There are a great many vegan alfredo sauces out there. The one you choose will likely depend on what's in your pantry and what your tastes are beforehand.
-
I, on the other hand, am making a frozen pizza. First time ever using the oven in this house - hope it comes out okay. This brand gets rave reviews - Red Baron - so I'm very interested in how it will taste. If not good, I move directly to the Marie Callendar's.
-
Tonight’s dinner was breakfast
Eggs, mushrooms, tomatoes, chicken and pineapple sausages, toast and
-
A nice pot of tea
-
First pizza attempt, disaster - burned. I lost track of time. Second try, with a brick oven crust - success.
-
Tonight was Taco Bell tacos, I kid you not. First time in several years. Honestly, I think their basic tacos are the best thing and the best deal there.
-
Tonight was Taco Bell tacos, I kid you not. First time in several years. Honestly, I think their basic tacos are the best thing and the best deal there.
My favorite is having a burrito supreme, minus tomatoes plus extra sour cream and a crunchy taco supreme (same instructions)
But I am currently not eating food cooked elsewhere.
-
The burrito supreme was my mainstay in my first Taco Bell days back in the late 70s, early 80s.
-
I didn’t discover Taco Bell until 1986
-
I even remember my first Taco Bell location. It was either West Third St. or Beverly Blvd., east of La Cienega. I’m leaning toward W. Third, but I should just look it up.
-
Not sure when they finally arrived on Long Island
-
Mine was the old mission-style building, with the concrete tables and benches out front.
-
I haven’t had Mexican food in five or six weeks. Developing a craving.
-
I boiled a dozen eggs. Will make egg salad tomorrow.

Back in the early to mid-2000s (I think) they used to have a Big Beef Burrito Supreme. That was my go-to at Taco Bell. Now, you can get a Burrito Supreme with extra meat, but I actually haven't ever gotten that. I don't know why.

Finished with my viewing and with my viewing I'm finished. One hour to get to page fifty-five. We can DO this.

I do Stamps.com. It's metered rate so it's less than the post office, but you do have to pay a monthly feel I mail a fair amount for my work so it's worth it.
-
I have seem metered mailing but never tried it.
-
Listening to a wonderful album I found on YouTube - Nelson Riddle conducts the songs of Nat King Cole - great Riddle orchestrations and that great Capitol sound. Of course, never on CD but whoever did the transfer did a good job.

Vixmom,in response to your question yesterday, I bought a Nikon Coolpix P1000. It only has the one lens and it isn't interchangeable. I think they call it a mirrorless digital camera. There are lots of videos online about it's capabilities. It's really just a mind blowing zoom camera. I use my phone for photos of friends and family. This is for doing my photography that I've sort of pushed aside for a number of years. It's something my dad and I shared before his Alz got bad. We'd go for drives just to shoot photos. I miss that, but I can do it again.

I know you've seen the photos on Facebook. I have a friend who has been taking incredible photos for the past couple years and I asked him how he got shots of the moon so clear you can see the craters etc and he said this camera was his secret and he was totally in love with it. All I can say is me too!

I have seem metered mailing but never tried it.
I hadn't either. I think Stamps.com costs something like 17.00 per month, I can't remember exactly. All I know is that with the discount and not having to go to the post office it's worth it. It even comes with a free digital scale that goes into your computer so you just weigh the envelope and print it out on your printer and mail it

Happy Birthday Sandra!

I have really been brain dead the past couple days. I think it's a little delayed grief. I came home the same day as Dad's funeral after being with mom for a week. So that was March 18, I moved my office home that day and dove right in on the briefs, motions etc that had been piling up. I can think of maybe one Sunday I didn't work at all since then. I tried to take today off completely, but the phone was ringing at 8:30 am and I had to deal with some things.

But I'm not complaining, I'm happy to have work, I'm just mentally exhausted. Getting the camera has been a big thing, as it was a hobby my dad and I shared so there has been a lot of emotion coming up. I went out last night and shot photos of the great blue herons and went to the river and shot some photos done there. Today I went back into the Loess Hills. I was looking for the bison but they are in a preserve and weren't anywhere near the accessible areas today. Tomorrow I have to go right back at it as I have another appeal brief due Tuesday and another brief due the week after. I still have a lot to do after that, but nothing as time consuming, so I'm hoping to take at least a few days off

I said for a long time that I thought our governor was stupid for not giving us a shelter in place order, but now I'm glad she didn't. The biggest pass time here seems to be going for a drive. People are staying in their cars or just standing outside with the people they arrived with, but most just drive through the parks, drive through the country etc. It's a welcome break from being inside

TOD, I almost always eat dinner at home, so that really hasn't changed. I've made a beef roast with rice, a beef roast with potatoes and carrots, pork roast, pork chops, corn on the cob, green beans, hamburgers, just all sorts of stuff. Today I did give in to a craving and got a quarter pounder with cheese meal from McDonalds. It hit the spot

Time to get some sleep. Lots to do tomorrow.

Congrats on your purchase, Cillaliz! I looked online and found this one-minute video of the moon shot with that kind of camera. It's gorgeous!

Notes are finally up, which is more than I can say for anyone here.

Well, I hate to do it (no, I really do!) but I need to go to sleep now. Tomorrow, I need to get some gas (hopefully, it's cheap), then I'm going to get my sister and myself each a wrap at Subway, then I have an online meeting for work, then I'm going to my parents' house to visit.
To quote Jane Curtin from Saturday Night Live, "Good night and have a pleasant tomorrow." :)

I guess I'll read the notes, then go to bed.
