Well, you've read the notes, the notes were naked as a jaybird, and now it is time for you to post until the naked cows come home. The Naked Cows Come Home - that's the title of my next novel.
-
And the word of the day is: ZEPHYR!
-
Good morning, all!
-
I slept terribly last night, so I fed the cats and went back to bed until 7:45. My body aches, every joint hurts, walking is an ordeal, and I hope it's not Covid-19.
-
I may check out the Sondheim concert today, but I have several things I really need to do.
-
I need to put my miniature scores in order so I can find Ravel's La Valse, and I've got a stack of DVDs to put away since the cats' romping sends them flying all over the floor.
-
Good morning, all.
-
I also slept poorly. Weird isolation dreams about other people.
-
I guess I am too boring to dream about myself. Either that or too much Boccaccio and it’s all storytelling.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Good morning to you.
-
Every time I hear someone say ZEPHYR, I want to say "Bless you."
-
Today is a lawn mowing day....so we shall see when that will happen....my guess is around 2 p.m. or or.....
-
Glad the hear that DR CILLA LIZ worked things out with her neighbor.......
-
I did not watch the Sondheim YouTube extravaganza.....
-
We don't have local news now....much. A few stories here and there, with reporters in the field.....and the anchors sitting very far away from each other.
But mostly it's Moms or high school students or old men who are raising money for their various causes because they all think we need to be educated about what the Pandemic is and what it is doing to THEM and what is important to them.....because we DON'T UNDERSTAND!!!!
I am unmoved to give a dime.

BK: You must be viewing Criterion’s original standalone release of PLAYTIME.
In their complete Tati set it’s a 2013 scan:
“Created in 6.5K resolution from the original 65mm negative, a 1967 internegative, and a 2002 interpositive (.....) The 3.0 surround soundtrack was remastered at 24-bit from Tati’s final 1978 70mm 6-track mix.”

TOD:
Pillow Talk, Send Me No Flowers, Lover Come Back for all of them
Rock Hudson
Written on the Wind
Giant
The Last Sunset
Ice Station Zebra
Pretty Maids All In A Row
Tony Randall
He was so annoying to me that I really don't have any other favorites to say. During the time he was on tv in THE ODD COUPLE, he would sometimes be on The Hollywood Squares. He sat in the bottom right corner wearing sunglasses. When they called on him, he took the sunglasses off and gave a one or two work answer and put the sunglasses back on, as if he were just too good to be there or annoyed to find himself on the show.....I hated it when he was on....it took all of the fun out of the whole show.....
Doris Day
Almost everything but especially:
By The Light of the Silvery Moon
On Moonlight Bay
Tea for Two
Pajama Game
The Man Who Knew Too Much
Love Me or Leave Me
and her comedies with James Garner
-
It's early in the week for me to be this crabby......
-
Every time I hear someone say ZEPHYR, I want to say "Bless you."
When I hear or see the word, my thoughts immediately turn to hearing various incarnations of “The Great [Crepitation] Contest” on radio and public domain LPs back in the day.
-
I don't think I've ever seen Pillow Talk. When it first was released, my mother forbade my going near it, biut she and my dad went to see it.
-
TOD
Doris Day
The Pajama Game
Calamity Jane
Jumbo
It Happened to Jane
Rock Hudson
Giant
Send Me No Flowers
Tony Randall
The Seven Faces of Dr. Lao
Boys’ Night Out
Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter?
-
I forgot that Doris and Randall both appear with Hiudson in Send Me No Flowers!
-
Last night’s YouTube presentation seemed to suffer from noticeable audio distortion in several of the songs. Or maybe it was our setup here which was less than optimal. I’ll be revisiting a few of the sections later today or tomorrow anyway, and will see what’s what.
-
My biggest problem with a lot of those Doris Day 1960s movies like The Glass Bottom Boat and Send Me No Flowers is the kitschy, Mickey Mouse scores of DeVol. They drive me up the wall.
-
I need to make the bed, finish dressing, and see what fresh hell awaits. I need to call my bank and Amazon.
-
Good morning!
-
I thought the Sondheim tribute was terrific. I have to say though, that Norm Lewis's version of "With So Little to Be Sure Of" (along with "Who Could Be Blue?") is one of my favorite recordings ever.
-
I watched the YouTube video of Elizabeth Stanley from last night’s concert and the lips were not in sync with the singing. Very irritating. A friend of mine kept complaining about that last night, but I didn’t understand what she was talking about. It didn’t happen on my screen.
-
Let’s move on ...
-
Two!

She's the one performer I really disliked in that last revival of On The Town.
-
I've taken care of my bank and Amazon phone inquiries. I guess it's time to dive into tidying the place.
-
Thanks for the birthday wishes DR TCB.
-
I really enjoyed what I watched of the Sondheim tribute. I will definitely watch more today.

Didn’t care for her in that. Loved her in Cry-Baby and Jagged Little Pill.

I can understand that. I have basically seen requests to help those in need.
-
DR George I look forward to the photo of you modeling your new mask ;D
-
DR TCB vibes for you and your family. How are your niece & nephews doing?
-
This morning Kate that we have new photos in the Freyja album. To our delight there were 9 new photos, including 2 videos.
-
There is nothing better than beginning the day with her beautiful, joyful smile.
-
I think DR GEORGE's new mask will facilitate his social distancing.
-
that sounds wonderful DR JANE!

I wonder if any of you would mind signing this petition? Thanks!

Weird Monday. Meetings with an urgent tone but the work isn’t especially urgent or difficult. I think people are in a panic mode and that’s not helping proper productivity.

Please Don't Eat the Daisies - Doris Day and David Niven

I'm up, I'm up - seven hours of sleep, I think.
-
Well we're up to 611 now and across the river is 608 so 1219 cases and rising in an area of 120.000 people and our governor opens up all the counties around us an says, "oh people will be responsible and not go from a closed county to an open county" She must be dumber than a post to believe that. Well, I've always thought she was dumber than a post, but please.
-
According to posts, Elizabeth Stanley gave the greatest rendition of The Miller's Son there will ever be in the history of the world. As to synch issues, in our tests we've found that there is occasionally lag time depending on what they're using, but I'll know more after our Zoom rehearsals today.

Last night I has almost fallen asleep when I felt a swoosh across the back of my head. I jumped about 4 feet flipped on the light and looked everywhere for a bat. No bats....downstairs..... no bats.... basement....no bats.... Boo was following me and sort of chewing me out, liked she does sometimes. Doesn't want anything just does her I'm angry meow. I realized Ricky wasn't with us. So I went back upstairs and he was hiding under the futon in the upstairs den....then I knew. It was his tail! It swooshed the back of my head. I talked him out of his hiding space and Boo quit chewing me out. I was relieved but wide awake. Didn't sleep well the rest of the night
-
Today I got so angry at our governor I had to call DN Samantha. We agree about our governor and we have the best gripe sessions on the planet. It's so nice to just get it all off your chest with someone who agrees with you, lol. Anyway, I can always count on Sam and she enjoys it as much as I do. She now has chickens in her back yard, she hasn't named them yet, but says there is one that is especially cuddly. I never thought of a chicken as being cuddly, lol

Boy you can say that again.
-
Speaking of being nonproductive, think I'll run to the office and check the mail.
-
I was watching the new Tati set, so it IS off 70mm - I thought it had to be as it's a phenomenal transfer. I must have seen a review of the older disc. Now it all makes sense.
-
Hardcover has arrived and I'm going to pick it up now.

I think DR GEORGE's new mask will facilitate his social distancing.

It is sad people simply wont take precautions unless they are forced to.

Great story. I wonder what spooked him.

Hardcover looks great, but I cannot get my gal who does the book orders to respond. Sometimes she's great about responding quickly and sometimes she's not. I have to do it through her because she knows the right printing plant to send it to and gives me nice discounts.
-
I am glad you are pleased with the books.
-
Books are ordered! She gave me a great deal, which was VERY helpful, especially in cutting the shipping charge in half. The one thing she couldn't do, which she normally does, is put it in as a "rush" order because the good printing house is not accepting rush orders now. So, seven to ten days they'll be here.
-
I saw a 70mm print at the Walter Reade several years ago, before the new set had come out. It was actually a disappointment -- theater and screen not large enough to make a difference (or so it seemed to me), and the print was probably nothing to write home about. So I didn't. It also had that weird aspect ratio anomaly at the top of the film that was on the old Criterion. I never did figure that out. It was masked or something in the main titles. I forget now.
Totally enjoyable seeing it on a "fairly" large screen once I settled into it, but nowhere near as striking as I'd hoped.

-
Good news on those books!
BK, is this the longest it's taken to get a book out? There were all kinds of reasons for that this time, of course, but I wondered if any others were this long in production.
-
Excellent news on the books.
-
Our (insert derogatory term) governor has decided we’re open for business on May 1. That includes libraries, movie theaters, restaurants, etc.
-
Good afternoon.
-
Thank you for the Sondheim link. I clicked on a couple of the links someone posted last night, but they said the video was gone.
-
I can't imagine how difficult it must be for the musicians to play by themselves in a room. I guess that's what makes a professional.
-
Monday afternoon greetings! We picked up groceries today because I messed up my ordering and neglected to indicate that I wanted a Tuesday or Wednesday slot. Oh, well.
-

Our governor was asked about a “regionalized” approach today and he had a much more coherent and rational answer. He also is rolling out a very gradual reopening that’s not going to make some people very happy, but we’re fine with it.
-
This evening I have an AAUW board meeting on Zoom and I’m looking forward to seeing my friends.
-
Update to our conversation about ordering stamps: mine arrived today. It took almost 2 weeks to get them, so don’t wait until the last minute if you need stamps!
-
Watch out for those cat tails!
-
My brother called and asked if I wanted anything from the store....so I said BANANAS......in the morning when they go.
I may still go out to the bank, I want to deposit my check and get some cash out......
-
Lawn is mowed......whew! I hate to think what it's going to be like when it gets HOT!
-
The ISDH site was not updated today with the latest numbers.....

I'm guessing it was me screaming

My brother just messaged me. Apparently mom fell sometime either last night or this morning. Her caretaker had an emergency so my brother went over this afternoon to check on mom and after they talked a bit she said "I wonder how I got this scar on the back of my head" He said the back of her head was covered in dried blood. They are at the emergency room. Good thing no virus in their county! Anyway, so far the word is it wasn't a stroke and her heart is ok, that's good. They are doing all sorts of tests and my brother is texting me as the results come in. She's been REALLY confused lately. I wish they would just admit her for observation tonight. She has good insurance
-
Vibes would be appreciated.
-
The mayors of the 4 or 5 communities that make our "metro" area put out a statement today asking for more transparency in the numbers. No one is saying where the outbreak is centered, if it's in a business, if the employees of any business impacted are being notified or if there is any plan to mitigate the outbreak nothing. So there is nothing the local leaders or any of us can do. It's very frustrating
-
Oh on the balancing bad news with good news, they found a good home for Chloe the cat. She's a scaredy cat like my Petey was. There was a lot of concern about her integrating into the house. Geri has a friend who lives alone and is retired and is very excited about adopting Chloe. She can be there all the time for Chloe, which is what she is used to. They will be making the drive to her new home tomorrow. Very happy about this. I was feeling really guilty when I saw the video of her at the shelter, and I almost caved and adopted her. Glad I waited
-
I have a zoom PEO social tonight. Looking forward to seeing everyone. It will keep me busy while we wait for results for mom.

Vibes for Cillaliz’s mom.
-
It ain’t easy typing on my phone with gloves on.
-
Why are you wearing gloves?
-
Today in the mail we received K95 masks from Bryan's personal supply he purchased for work. They are comparable to N95 masks.
-
We plan to wear them for our Tuesday senior shopping.
-
On facebook there is now a group called "View from my window". People are putting up incredible photos of views from their homes. Some of the stories that go with the photos are very moving, especially photos from hospitals or hotels as the person is on the front lines.
-
Last night we watched THE THIN MAN. With the subsequent films & tv series I had forgotten that the thin man was Clyde Wynant and not Nick Charles.
-
Wynant is described as the tall, thin man with white hair.
-
DR Cillaliz, vibes for your Mom and for you as you await news. Have fun with your friends.
-
Why are you wearing gloves?
I had to go out. Pick up a prescription, then decided to get dinner.
-
Watching a performance of something called Twin Spirits. It’s the love story of Robert and Clara Schumann based on their letters, their music, their love. Sting plays Robert. But a baritone does the singing. I spent a whole dollar on this at a library sale. I don’t think anyone ever watched it.
-
Tonight we are going to watch AFTER THE THIN MAN.
-
Good news on those books!
BK, is this the longest it's taken to get a book out? There were all kinds of reasons for that this time, of course, but I wondered if any others were this long in production.
Yes, last year and the year before because we had so many problems that the books had to be redone. I think we may have been shipping by end of April but not much before that.
-
I'm going to send Mom both Book Woman of Troublesome Creek and Major Pettigrew's Last Stand for Mother's Day.
-
Today's rehearsals were SO much fun.
-
Ended up not eating until they were done and then it was just easiest to do Wacky Noodles. Also did laundry and a little house cleansing.
-
Tonight we are going to watch AFTER THE THIN MAN.
I love those movies. I have the box set of all. Even the worst has something small to recommend.

Good night, all.

DR TCB how is your sister?

DR George I look forward to the photo of you modeling your new mask ;D
Thanks, Jane! So do I!

My niece named her chickens after famous actresses, Hedy Lamarr, Paulette Goddard, Ava Gardner, Lana Turner, Rita Hayworth and Grace Kelly. And one of them (Rita) just LOVES to be held and cuddled! ;D

Here's my niece Hilary with two of her most affectionate chickens:
-
Good evening
-
Nice photo :)
-
My sister is not doing well today/tonight.
-
I am not surprised a pet chicken enjoys being held.
-
Oh Tom. Sending more good vibes for your sister.
-
They told her she has to go on to insulin immediately. They also told her she couldn’t stay another night in the hospital, but they kicked her out without any instruction on how to use the insulin.
-
And now she wants to come stay with me.
-
I may call the suicide hot line!
-
Hello, George.
-
I had Stouffer’s meatloaf (BK’s favorite) for dinner tonight.
-
And I did not vomit on the ground.

One more post!
-
Hello, Tom.
-
Nice photo :)
Thanks, Jane.

They told her she has to go on to insulin immediately. They also told her she couldn’t stay another night in the hospital, but they kicked her out without any instruction on how to use the insulin.

:o WTF?? That's terrible!! >:(
-
What do they expect her to do? Find out on Google??
-
I had Stouffer’s meatloaf (BK’s favorite) for dinner tonight.
And I did not vomit on the ground.
That's an endorsement...I guess.

DR TCB is it possible they did attempt to instruct your sister and she didn't understand?
-

Tom, is it just the people at the hospital who are not instructing her, or is her doctor also not helping any, either?
-
I hope she calls her doctor tomorrow.
-
Hmm, George's question is a good one.
-
They told her she has to go on to insulin immediately. They also told her she couldn’t stay another night in the hospital, but they kicked her out without any instruction on how to use the insulin.
OMG. Is she home now with her husband?
For tonight.
-
DR TCB is it possible they did attempt to instruct your sister and she didn't understand?
I don’t know, because I couldn’t be there. She says no.
-
Tom, is it just the people at the hospital who are not instructing her, or is her doctor also not helping any, either?
She hasn’t even seen her own doctor.
-
Well, I think I will go drown myself in the shower before bed.
-
Good night, Jane.

Good night, George.

HOPEFULLY, she can see her doctor VERY soon!!
-
Good night, George.
Good night, Tom.
-
I gotta tell you.
-
Speaking of being nonproductive, think I'll run to the office and check the mail.
Also speaking of nonproductive, I finished a home project! One of the light fixtures in my kitchen had one tube bulb that was out. I was going to just go to Costco to buy new bulbs (even though they were LEDs and I just got them last year), but I took down the plexiglass diffuser panels and switched a good bulb with a bad bulb, and the good bulb didn't work. That meant the fixture itself was bad. :o
-
Why I oughta...
-
And then I wrote...
-
New notes are up.
-
There's a GIF in them for the first time ever.
-
So I went to Costco to see what they had and they had these very thin light panels that looked perfect for my kitchen...and they were $20 off each! I bought two and brought them home. Here's what my original lights looked like with the panels on:
-
I know this because I put it there.
-
I have no idea where it came from or why it exists.
-
Here's what the actual fixture looks like:
-
But when I took dow the fixtures, I saw that there was no power junction box in the deiling for either light! Is this even legal?? :o
