Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of big glasses and the return thereof, and now it is time for you to post until the big cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: CATHARTIC!
-
First after Bk?
-
3:13 in the am
-
Woke up and can’t get back to sleep
-
Hi, Vixmom and BK.
-
Vixmom, I still need to send you a DVD! I recorded it, then sorta forgot about it ::) (very sorry about that), then I realized that there were problems, and so I've recently been fixing all that, and I (hopefully) should finish everything this weekend! :D
-
Interesting to compare the Mahler second in this set with the Japanese issue I have - no comparison, actually - the Japanese is MUCH better. Don't know why it wasn't used. The stereo Beethoven so far is amazing-sounding, though.
-
Last night, Tom asked me, "No rumblings from those in Olympia theater?" about the Lakewood Playhouse resignation. I haven't seen anything on FB, so I'll ask a couple of people who know John.

I'm with you, Vixmom.

Hi, John. I'm still up.

Thank you no need to rush I don’t know when I’ll have an opportunity to watch it
-
Woke up and can’t get back to sleep
I'm with you, Vixmom.
Sorry to hear that
-
Had a couple of tortillas with cheese for my snack.
-
I will say that Bruno with a B is superb in these stereo Beethoven symphonies - really enjoying them. In the mono stuff there was a really interesting rehearsal disc for a Mozart symphony. He was a very exacting and precise conductor, even-keeled but knowing exactly what he wants.
-
Today, the family is getting together for the family dinner...at 2:00 pm. I was supposed to go over to my parents' yesterday, but we postponed until today. There will be much Phase 10 playing, I'm sure.
-
But now, I'm off to bed.
Have a good day, all!
-
Good morning, all!
-
Well, from the above posts I can say I wasn't the only one having a bad night. I had two issues: my bladder was working overtime and my right leg kept cramping. Both issues made sleep a difficult situation. I had dreams, but I only remember fragments of one which was about searching for my goddaughter Charlotte's birthday gift.
-
DR Jeanne, I sympathize. This pandemic doesn't make things easy for our health. Your doctor's office closes for four months, and I have no idea when the NYU Dental Clinic will reopen.
-
DR JRand69, I'm glad you solved the mystery of the phone message, since I thought you might be entering an episode of The Twilight Zone.
-
Another day with no plans, so I will try to catch up on some of the DVDs lying about.

DR John G, thanks for posting the Bruce Willis Youtube site. There are a ton of Bruce Willis videos on his Facebook page as well.
-
The cats love my grandmother's quilt, but I decided to rescue it from any kitty damage by ordering their own quilt on July 8, 2020. I thought this looked good for them, but I am having a helluva time getting a response from the company about its order status.
-
T.O.D.
I've never been a big fan of Peter Sellers, though I do like BEING THERE very much.
I recall being on the set of THE PARTY a couple of times. Had a publicity client (Timothy Scott) in that one.
The first David Niven movie that comes to mind is THE GUNS OF NAVARONE, one of the great WW2 action films. Also his Oscar-winning role, SEPARATE TABLES.
-
Son David is coming over today for a turkey dinner.
-
Good morning.
-
It might have rained last night. I haven't been outside yet. This would be our first rain in over three months.
-
Someone - most likely Stella - knocked everything off the top of the bathroom sink at some point between 9:00 last night and this morning. So I spent some time this morning retrieving everything.
-
Page 2 Dance!
-
Last night we started to watch Agatha Christie's The Caribbean Mystery, and I could not stay awake, We'll finish it this afternoon
-
Good morning, all.

One of my childhood friends who lived down the road was CATHARTIC. The rest of us were Protestants.

I have been postponing "updates" for three days, so in about 30 minutes I will shut down and let Apple do their damage. I do wish that Apple would tell you what the fat hell these updates are before they install them.
-
Good morning, all.
-
I managed to get a few hours of sleep.
-
Not enough.
-
I have been postponing "updates" for three days, so in about 30 minutes I will shut down and let Apple do their damage. I do wish that Apple would tell you what the fat hell these updates are before they install them.
I know! Windows is the same. They'll give you a little HINT of whether it's security matters or whatever. But I think it's unconscionable that they don't tell you at least which thing (OS or apps) is being updated. If I knew that much I'd be okay with it since I'm hardly in a position to second guess them on what needs to be done. But I feel very insecure not knowing what they're going to be touching. Or is there something about this notification process that we've been missing all these years?
Of course it would also be very nice of them to allow us to check or uncheck each item, in case we have some reason to stay on a particular version of something. For instance, I absolutely cannot move from Mojave to Catalina because certain things in musical apps aren't yet compatible with it. I believe Apple does NOT force OS changes, but it's difficult to trust them.
-
Heat wave comin' up!
Like it hasn't already been pretty brutal, what with the humidity levels. Oy!

The current situation is the "Updates"window hasn't shown up since I pressed "Remind me in an hour" over 90 minutes ago. So to hell with it today.

It looks as if the Columbia Dental Clinic is open on Monday, so I will call to see if they will take care of me.
-
I just received the first bill I must pay for the surgery. My insurance/Medicare is not paying $390 so I need to send Lenox Hill a check. So much VIP insurance. I hope there are no more!
-
I just saw this chest pof drawers on Craig's List for $100, so I've sent an email asking if the seller can deliver it.
-
Looks good, DR Elmore.
-
I'm afraid that in this crazy week I missed watching the Met's Macbeth. Some other time!
Last night was Falstaff, but I own that one. I should watch it.
Tonight, Der Rosenkavalier from 2010.
Tomorrow, La fanciulla del West from 2008.
-
Ah, finally! Next Friday, July 31 -- the 2017 Rusalka. I saw the HD Live presentation at a theater and have always wanted to revisit it.

I just finished setting two fence posts and clearing away from vines. It's very hot out there already. I'm a puddle of sweat.
-
But I also finished Robin Cook's Pandemic. Meh. I've since started The Answer Is. Alex Trebek reads his introduction, but the book is read by Ken Jennings. Slender read. Only 4 hours.
-
For $100, he should deliver it with some nice stuff in the drawers.
-
When my dad was in the hospital he had a CATHARTIC inserted, and it was very painful.
...DR CHAS SMITH beat me to my first thought.....
-
DR JEANNE I am sending you doctor vibes.

I just read that Trump's Gestapo controlling Portland protestors shot a reporter, and here's another dragging off another.

I am not on FB with DR FJL. Through a mutual friend he has sent the following message. I have been wondering why we haven't heard from him.
Hi Jane, hope you're well. I see others from the other site even BK, but can't sign in from this phone, and the business center situation seems not right for signing in there in terms of privacy of some of the hhw members who are not public. I did change my FB photo to an HHW gathering and try to remember to read there. See you all when back in NY after Labor Day or before if internet situation changes.
-
I talked to a friend who knows more than I do about the updating process. He reminds me that I can go to the App Store and click on Updates, and that will show me which apps have updates to install. On that screen you can also choose to update one or more of them right away.
As far as the OS is concerned, he "swears" that Apple will never change to the next one without me specifically choosing it. They're only doing security updates and bug fixes on what we already have.
For what that's worth. :)
DR Elmore probably already knows this much or more. I needed it, though.
-
The zoom funeral has ended. Both Rosenda and her husband have had careers in video, and that certainly helped. The intro was a lifetime of pictures with several songs in the background. Then came a brief video with clips from her news career. The service itself was a little different in that there was no music, only a series of readings, the homily and the prayers at the end. Both of her sons read, one offered a passage from the Bible and the other had some memories of his mother. There were a few shots of the audience. Everyone was socially distanced and wore masks throughout. The Episcopalian priest who performed the ceremony also put on his mask when her sons came up to speak. The priest knew Rosenda well, which made his homily all the more touching.
-
A very brief rain is happening. The first time in weeks and weeks. All of the plants have suddenly perked up.
-
For $100, he should deliver it with some nice stuff in the drawers.
I just heard from the seller, and he will need to rent a zip car for around $20. I told him I'd pay him $130 if he will deliver. I really really really need a new chest of drawers!

That's not quite true. When I open the App Store, the only updates showing are the last two installed, not the ones to be installed.
-
This appears to be a change when I upgraded to Mojave OS 10.14.6 and wiped out my iTunes.
-
Saturday afternoon greetings! It's getting harder and harder to tell one day from the other...

Yeah, same here. But the only update I have pending is the change to Catalina, which I'm ignoring, and it looks like the App Store doesn't include OS changes (?). I'll try to remember to check occasionally, maybe weekly, and see how it behaves going forward.
-
I just bought a chest. The man, whose name is Zoria, will deliver it tomorrow around noon.
-
DR TCB, here's a video about the death of Bob the Street Cat. As far as I'm concerned running over an animal is murder, intentional or not.

25,000 people are watching the live stream of Aeschylus's The Persians from the amphitheater at Epidarus. That's wonderful. l was at that theater in October of last year.
-
I'm watching some of Falstaff which is still available till I guess 7:30 pm. Glorious.
-
I'm watching some of Falstaff which is still available till I guess 7:30 pm. Glorious.
Is this the modern dress one or the Zeffirelli?
-
Just to be clear, because the media's click-bait headlines are working overtime, they didn't "shoot" a reporter in the sense that they'd like you to believe - they "shot" tear gas and the canister hit her hand - no injuries, walked away. I HATE click-bait headlines.
-
What did everyone do before Zoom? Because I never heard the word Zoom before this pandemic began in March. So, Zoom has effectively ended Skype? And Face Time?
-
I'm up, I'm up - up at six again for ninety minutes, then finally fell back asleep - maybe seven hours.
-
I'm watching some of Falstaff which is still available till I guess 7:30 pm. Glorious.
Is this the modern dress one or the Zeffirelli?
Zeffirelli, for sure. 1992.
-
I haven't seen that modern dress one.
-
There's another real oldie coming up next week: Rigoletto from 1977 with Domingo and MacNeil.
-
Good question about Zoom.
I have a Zoom audio recorder and I know they make interfaces and the like. Shall I assume they're the company behind...
uh, you know... Zoom?
-
What did everyone do before Zoom? Because I never heard the word Zoom before this pandemic began in March. So, Zoom has effectively ended Skype? And Face Time?
I've never heard of Zoom.
And, the only time I've used Skye is when I had to talk with actors in the UK who were doing audio versions of my one-person plays, e.g. (Errol) FLYNN, (Basil) RATHBONE & MISS AUDREY HEPBURN.
-
I've never used Skype or Facetime.
And thus far I've only used Zoom to sit in on a couple of webinars. In neither case did I or the other participants have to be seen.
-
The production of the Persians was excellent, and it was staged with appropriate social distancing without losing any impact. The choreography of the chorus was particularly effective. The live production had up to 27,000+ visitors and down to 22,700 was the lowest I saw.
But the coolest was to be able to see a production in that magnificent theater.
-
What did everyone do before Zoom? Because I never heard the word Zoom before this pandemic began in March. So, Zoom has effectively ended Skype? And Face Time?
We used Skype and Skype for Business up until everyone had to work from home. Then some of the meetings with more than 250 people began to show the severe limitations of Skype. Audio problems began. You could not use video with more than, say, 10.
Then after that, audio and video problems began for smaller groups. I think Skype was just maxed out.
-
So, we're moving to Zoom. At least, once our technical department was convinced we could use it safely and securely without possible outside interference or hacking. It's a big issue with us. They've started small. Somehow I managed to get into the initial phase, which was meant for 1,500. It was supposed to have rolled out companywide in July, but that hasn't happened yet.
-
I need a nap.
-
From DR TCB:
Hell, I am still getting phone calls from my friend, Sandy, and he died three years ago last month.
:o
-
DR John I meant to tell you yesterday I finished The Curious Charms of Arthur Pepper and enjoyed it very much. Thanks for recommending it.
-
DR George great news about your friend Pug. Vibes she remains negative and does not have lingering issues.
-

Wow, there were actually people at the service. I am glad you were able to attend using Zoon and not in person.

I agree. The canister hitting her was bad enough.
-

We use Google Duo. Most of our friends do Face Time. Since, so far, they are all on FB we have been using Messenger with them.
-
Yesterday we talked to Keith's cousin on Messenger and today with a childhood friend of Keith's.
-
Well, I'm in Act 3. Might as well hear the rest.
I've forgotten how wonderful Verdi's orchestration is in this.
-
I just read that Regis Philbin has died. I remember watching his show when Bryan was a baby. I appreciated having an entertaining show while holding a kid who refused to be put down ;D
-
Well, I'm in Act 3. Might as well hear the rest.
I've forgotten how wonderful Verdi's orchestration is in this.
Is the great orchestra trill in Act Three? The end of that scene has the wonderful decrescendo that no one ever hears in the theatre because of applause, but then you've got the Windsor Forest, Nanetta's wonderful fairy music and the magnificent fugue at the end.

That one's not a trill, but there's a long quiet high D in the violins with a couple of final pizzes beneath. And they controlled it by not lowering the curtain too soon, so it's all heard. That sloppy curtain practice used to KILL ME.
-
Or maybe they told the audience to STFU at this one. :)
-
Damn it, where's the long trill? Is that in Otello?
Now I have to go look.
-
Yes! End of Act 1.
-
A.M. Los Angeles was the show I originally watched holding Bryan.

The trill occurs when Falstaff, after being dumped in the river, is brought a mug of ale and he drinks it. It's just before Mistress Quickly appears with her "Reverenza" to tell him about the meeting at Herne's Oak. I'm glad the end of the scene was good and quiet.

Ah GOT IT! The trill that builds on itself.
Following which, his spit-take of the ale on her entrance is perfection.

The girls went parasailing, but my brother would have none of it.

Fun. We went parasailing once. I wish we could have done it in pairs, especially since it was scary watching the kids up high on their own.

I think it was a fair headline for the history professor that was shot in the head with an impact munition.
-
Let's move on ...
-
Five!
-
I guess it's raining again. Very nice.
-
Been doing Kritzerland show stuff - mixing the group audio - very hard to do over the phone so we do it, he sends, I don't like, we do it again, he sends, it's better but not perfect, and on we go.
-
Watching a fully staged production of Shakespeare's King Henry the VIII. Claire Bloom is a wonderful Catherine of Aragon, but the play is all over the place. Nobody really comes off well. The story goes only to the birth of Elizabeth, and that part of the ending is fairly good, but the rest of the play, Shakespeare's last, is dreary.
-
DR Vixmom, that is interesting about you thinking that Vixdad had covid in the Fall. Have you spoken to his doctor about this.
And re: your mom and her groceries. I would ask her to make a list and tell her that you will only be going once a week. Or you make a list of the things that you know that she needs every week.
-
Vixmom, in this play, Cardinal Woolsey calls Anne Bullen (Boleyn) a "spleeny Lutheran." Love it. Here's to us spleeny Lutherans.
-
I gotta tell you.
-
I'm all in from all the mixing, but it's all good now.
-
Trying to watch a movie but keep dozing off - it doesn't help that the sound is mastered so low you can barely hear it, yet another inept Olive Blu-ray. I believe they're given a transfer and don't even watch or look at it, just slap it on a disc and sell it.
-
Listening to Bruno with a B's superb stereo New World Symphony. He was in his 80s when he made all these stereo recordings.
-
Son David is coming over today for a turkey dinner.
Enjoy your visit.
We had a good time.

Olive has good titles, but the transfers are crap. Funny, my brain was thinking cheap, but my fingers typed crap, which is the right word.

Went to Gelson's - needed a low-cal sweet and got some rice pudding, which I'm now eating. Also, got food to make here for the next two days.

Now I'm head over heels for Zino Francescatti.

It happens.

I gotta tell you.
-
Back to Beethoven, then onto someone new - Bruckner.
-
I've never cared for Bruckner but I'm hoping Bruno with a B gives me a new perspective.

Today, the family is getting together for the family dinner...at 2:00 pm. I was supposed to go over to my parents' yesterday, but we postponed until today. There will be much Phase 10 playing, I'm sure.
We did play Phase 10 and I won! :D
-
Just had to share. :)
-
We had Costco pizza for the meal.
-
Surprisingly, it was a little overdone, but fortunately not burned.
-
But still...a little too dark for them since it's all pretty much automated. :-\
-
When I got home, I had a package waiting in my mailbox.
-
It was two face masks that I had ordered.
-
I got these two masks specifically because they match t-shirts that I have!
-
One is a tie-dye mask (the colors are very similar) and the other is a Star Trek mask.
-
THIS (https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NMDB1YQ/) is the t-shirt that I got from Amazon:
-
And here's the image of the mask...

:D
-
I'll wear the pair on Monday.
-
And I might wear the tie-dyed pair on Tuesday.
-
That might be too much too soon, though. ;)
-
Now, I need to ketchup on all of today's posts!

The cats love my grandmother's quilt, but I decided to rescue it from any kitty damage by ordering their own quilt on July 8, 2020. I thought this looked good for them, but I am having a helluva time getting a response from the company about its order status.

That's a nice looking quilt, Larry. Hopefully, you got it from a legit site and didn't get taken. I've ordered a couple things from different websites that never delivered and wouldn't respond to ANY e-mails. :-\

Between the few items, I was out probably $80. :(
