Well, you've read the notes, the notes were both older and wiser, and now it is time for you to post until the older and wiser cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: AURICOMOUS!
-
And now - Dino at the piano.
-
I was try to correct the name of the show from Great to Greatest.
-
Oh well.
-
Good night.

Save travel vibes for John G.

I was try to correct the name of the show from Great to Greatest.
I tried to change 200 to 201 and BK closed the day. ::) Spoo!!
-
BK, that "lovely little coconut cake thing with a candle" looked delish!
-
Off to bed.
Have a good day, all!
-
The thing I thought was jam in a jar from the Darling Daughter was and is, in fact, a cupcake in a jar - she bought two cupcakes and spooned them into a jar - fun! I'll have those today.
-
Listening to Klemperer do the Bach Mass in B minor - what a recording this is - unbelievable sound and incredible performance.
-
Glad you had a good day, bk.
-
.
-
Good morning, all!

In the meadow we can build a snow dog
And pretend that he's a living hound . . .

I slept well until 1:00 or so, and then it all went to hell. I dreamed that my goddaughter Charlotte was in a production of Bye Bye Birdie at Goodspeed and all attempts to record the production were botched. For the rest of the night, I was haunted by Birdie tunes, and fitful dreams about the show. It was hell.
-
I must drag up 40 lbs of litter this morning when I pick up yesterday's mail. As soon as the usual tidying up is finished, I plan on doing little. I need to save my strength for tomorrow's ordeal getting to and from my CT-scan, which I would love to cancel.
-
BK, that was a lovely birthday greeting from Mr Holmes.
-
The Revenge of Birdie.
-
.
-
bk's musings on cake bring to mind this cookbook, which is intriguing...

I'm reading Carl Hiaasen's latest book Squeeze Me, which has received several bad Amazon reviews from Trump supporters for its idiot President and amoral, vacuous First Lady, here known by their Secret Service code names Mastodon and Mockingbird. One of the President's supporters, a wealthy antique "Potussy" (POTUS and pussy), has vanished from an exclusive Palm Beach charity event, and an illegal alien in ICE custody has been arrested for her murder. Since his books are about the rape and pillage of Florida's eco-system and environment by grifters, whores, thieves, and others of their ilk, Hiaasen has finally turned to the current presidential loser and his Palm Beach cronies around his estate, the Villa Bellicosa.
I am enjoying it immensely.

~~~CONTINUED TRAVEL VIBES~~~ today for DR John G. and his entourage.
-
Good morning, all.
-
It's kitty cleanup time! Oh, joy.
-
I’ve read only a couple of Hiaasen’s earlier books, which I loved. Must read some more.
I had the worst insomnia last night. At 2:46 am I stopped reading and listening to Dickens movies on TCM, set the clock radio to play, and finally fell asleep to it. Then I dreamed that I was still trying to fall asleep, and that woke me up an hour later. I laid there till 4:00 am, wondering if I should just give up, but mercifully got back to sleep again. Then the usual crazy dreams kicked in, and I was in and out of those till seven when I got up. The dreams were nonsensical, concerning first a lost screw (the metal kind) in a meadow, followed by a lost coat (not mine, I think it belonged to the person who was still missing the screw (the metal kind)), and when it (the coat) was found for the second time I accidentally let out a joyous big bad word right in front of Richard M. Sherman.
-
I figured things could only continue downhill from there, so here I am.
-
.
In the meadow we can build a snow dog
And pretend that he's a living hound . . .
Love it! (Of course I “heard” that sung in my head!)
-
(the metal kind)
Thank you for clarifying. :)
-
.
I am unreasonably disturbed by this
-
I figured things could only continue downhill from there, so here I am.
We shall endeavor to make it so.
-
I am unreasonably disturbed
DR vixmom, I don't see anyone rushing to your defense. ;)
A friend of mine on FB has a new kitten. Her name is Guppy.
-
Hey looks like i passed into a new later without noticing about 16 posts ago
-
Congratulations, DR vixmom, on your new
millstone milestone.
-
You made me tear up a bit last night with your post about your daughter.
-
A new “later”? Really autocorrect? I type “plateau” and you think I really meant to type “later”?
-
No wonder I’m disturbed
-
You made me tear up a bit last night with your post about your daughter.
I admit I got teary writing it...there are certain moments in life you cherish, that is one I will not forget
-
Or... you're depraved on accounta you're deprived.
-
Of sleep.
-
Well I need to be sitting at my desk in 39 minutes so I better get these stumps amoving
-
Sort of like DR ChasSmith. My sympathies.
-
The other day, DR Ginny posted about a poinsettia. I wanted to ask her if it looked like this:
-
Ha such jolly posts on HHW already this morning!
-
Barnum is singing a lot this morning.....loudly..... I think it's all of the Christmas music on the TV commercials......he certainly enjoys it.
-
For some reason I had a SPORTS dream last night. I was watching a hockey game AND a basketball game at the same time.
Both teams used a new and unexpected play in the last few seconds of each game. One player grabbed the basketball and ran up into the stands causing a referee call of "Free In."
Everybody was up in arms and then a hockey player grabbed the puck and ran up into the stands.....and received a "Free In" call as well....
Chaos reigned.....
-
.
-
a referee call of "Free In."
Was OLLY, OLLY there?
-
Speaking of operas that are difficult...
Much as I love Benjamin Britten, I have always found Owen Wingrave a bit of a slog.
I will have to give it another chance.
-
Wednesday morning greetings!
The other day, DR Ginny posted about a poinsettia. I wanted to ask her if it looked like this:
No, DR Singdaw. I wouldn’t have let that one into the house. Remember, I’m an animal grinch.
-
Today I have a car coffee date with my recently-widowed friend Rebecca. She has been quite withdrawn and I’m not sure what to expect, but I’m looking forward to seeing her.
-
I am glad that you can be supportive for your friend, DR Ginny.
-
I have always been sorry that John Daker never recorded "His Eye is On the Sparrow" for posterity.
-
I have dragged 40 lbs of litter to the third floor and into the apartment. There were nice surprises in yesterday's mail: the December Gramophone, the Region 2 DVD of A Christmas Gift from Bob, which I think we will watch tonight, and the new recording of Sir Arthur Sullivan's Haddon Hall.
-
And an outrageous bill from Lenox Hill Radiology, including charges for x-rays from 2017, claiming my insurance will not accept them. Strange, given that all visits to this company were prepared by my doctor. I am not amused.
-
Here you go, still bare naked!
Tonight. Maybe. Things are crazy here. Soon. :)
-
I'll post another when it's decorated and adorned and has had its final trim and dressing and whatever else the doctor orders.
-
That’s a beautiful tree, DR ChasSmith! And the placement by the stairway should help when it’s time for the “topper.”
-
It definitely does, DR Ginny. We sometimes put the tree there, sometimes in the living room. This affords a somewhat taller tree. You could actually go WAY taller, but then the width at the bottom would block access to the entire first floor. :)
-
Thanks for the photo, DR ChasSmith. It is a nicely shaped tree!
-
Good morning.
-
I walked to the nursery and bought some bulk wildflower seeds. They say it will rain tomorrow.
-
So I want to get the seeds into the ground.
-
Beautiful tree, Chas. The placement by the stairs will make it easier for the cats to get to the top.
-
I doubt I will even bother to put up a tree this year.
-
Here you go, still bare naked!
That's one good lookin' tree!
Thanks for the recommendation, Larry. I just downloaded it from my library's OverDrive. :) I'll try to read it next after I finish the two books I'm reading now.
I actually haven't read any of his, so this'll be a first.
Sending hugs and vibes you never have to go through that again.
Your tree is lovely. I look forward the the photo once it is decorated.
We won't be having a Christmas tree. We haven't had one since moving here.
I did not think about the convenience of topping it :)
The Big Issue is a magazine sold by homeless, recovering addicts, and other street denizens in London. There's a sim,ilar newspaper sold in Manhattan. James Bowen and Street Cat Bob became famous for selling the magazine and it's an important part of the books and the films. Here's their article on A Christmas Gift From Bob:
I'm up, I'm up - nine hours of sleep.
Good Afternoon! Nothing exciting to report. Apartment is still not totally together, I'm hopeful each day LOL. All I have left are several boxes of misc things. Things that I look at and wonder why the heck did I choose to put those in a box and bring them to the new apartment. I'm starting a trash bag tonight. I think I do have a good method of unpacking them and I think once it gets started, it will be finished quickly.
-
I watched the Albert Finney "Scrooge" the other night, which is one of my favorite Christmas Movies. Tonight, I may try a different telling of the story as I unpack.
-
Today I have a car coffee date with my recently-widowed friend Rebecca. She has been quite withdrawn and I’m not sure what to expect, but I’m looking forward to seeing her.
I am glad Rebecca is getting out, if only in her car.
Getting out is not difficult for her - staying home is...
-
Actually, Rebecca did better than she thought she would today and better than I expected. We’re going to do car coffee again before Christmas.
-
DR Jane I think that covid vaccinations are supposed to start in my province on Monday. They have listed the order to receive them. I am category 10 of 12 (only kids and pregnant women are after me).
First are senior long term care facilities (there were huge outbreaks there in Quebec). Then health care workers. Then 80+. Then 70+.
He is my favorite Scrooge.
That is even sadder these days.
Thanks for the breakdown. I wonder how long it will take just to get to the 80+ seniors.
Nice.
-
I keep looking at today's title and thinking of "The Sadder But Wiser Girl."
-
Thanks, DRs George, Jane, and Elmore, for your comments about my friend. She’s a long way from good, but today was encouraging.
-
Good news DR GINNY.
-
Congrats to DR VIXMOM on her millstone.
-
I liked the photos of Guppy the kitty and the tree of DR CHAS SMITH.
-
It's 5:45 p.m. and the Adam-12 boys are flying around in a helicopter.....and outside my house, it's dark......
-
Penultimate episode of this round of The Amazing Race tonight.
-
I ordered a couple of books about Jerome Robbins.....both were mentioned here in the last few months.....so we shall see what we shall see.
I bought them USED at good prices.
-
Mmmmm... cramberry pie. My favorite!
-
That is good, DR Jrand70. I've been meaning to watch the documentary that bk mentioned a few days ago about JR.
-
It's supposed to be much warmer tomorrow, so I hope I can wear shorts to the CT-scan.
-
I cannot eat or take my meds four hours before, so I will be getting up around 5:15. That should be a surprise for Stella.
-
Yikes, DR elmore3003 - hope all goes well.
-
Ate the meatball pizza - not as good as the pepperoni, but still enjoyable.
-
Picked up a couple packages.
-
Did work on project two for an hour or so, and am now listening to a fun piano concerto by operetta composer Oscar Straus.
-
Listening to Adriadne and Naxos - very appealing.
If Shakespeare had written "Baby, It's Cold Outside"
Romeo: I really can’t stay.
Juliet: But baby, it's cold outside.
Romeo: I’ve got to go away.
Juliet: But baby, it's cold outside.
Romeo: This evening has been....
Juliet: Been hoping that you'd drop in.
Romeo: So on the mark.
Juliet: That was the nightingale, not the lark.
Romeo: My mother will start to worry,
Juliet: Romeo, what's your hurry?
Romeo: The Montagues all pacing the floor.
Juliet: Listen, it’s my nurse at the door.
Romeo: So really I'd better scurry.
Juliet: Romeo, go—please hurry!
Romeo: Belike I'll stay a half an hour more—
Juliet: Exit through the balcony door.
[Fade to new scene]
Gertrude: The Danish might think...
Claudius: Gertrude, it's bad out there.
Gertrude: Say, what's in this drink?
Claudius: Laertes was stabbed out there.
Gertrude: I wish I knew how...
Claudius: Your eyes have grown cloudy now.
Gertrude: To break this spell.
Claudius: I'll hold your crown, your face doth swell.
Gertrude: Just wait until Hamlet finds you.
Claudius: Mind if I hide behind you?
Gertrude: At least I had some fun ere I died.
Claudius: What's the sense of more regicide?
Gertrude: I really can't stay.
Claudius: This groweth sadder.
Both: Ah, but it's tragedy.
[Fade to new scene]
Macbeth: I really should go.
Lady Macbeth: But baby the king's in there.
Macbeth: The answer is no.
Lady Macbeth: Was hope drunk? Your fear's a snare,
Macbeth: His welcome doth speak...
Lady Macbeth: Unmannish and passing weak.
Macbeth: Against the deed.
Lady Macbeth: Screw up your courage, that's what you need.
Macbeth: The nobles will be suspicious—
Lady Macbeth: Seize this moment auspicious!
Macbeth: The porter will be there at the door—
Lady Macbeth: Old and drunk and likely to snore.
Macbeth: Perchance I am too ambitious...
Lady Macbeth: Victory tastes delicious!
Macbeth: Well maybe I'll do it, if you're sure.
Lady Macbeth: Never such advancement before.
[Fade to new scene]
Desdemona: We're here all alone,
Othello: I hope that you sent your prayers.
Desdemona: I don't like your tone.
Othello: I hope that you meant your prayers.
Desdemona: You'll bring us such grief.
Othello: Say where is your handkerchief?
Desdemona: O, I love thee.
Othello: How could you do this thing to me?
Desdemona: You're bound to feel better tomorrow...
Othello: Think of my lifelong sorrow!
Desdemona: At least wait until then to decide.
Othello: If you played around on the side!
Desdemona: I swear that I'm true.
Othello: I'm just getting madder.
Both: Baby it's tragedy.
Had an interesting Zoom meeting tonight for the music staff at the church where I work and the logistics of getting all the Christmas music recorded for everything coming up. It will all be digital and woe to the tech wizards who have to sort it all out afterward.
-
All the time I have more and more admiration for the tech wizardry of the Kritzerland shows.
-
Regina Pizzeria in Boston is open RIGHT NOW. :P
-
Well, one can dream.
-
OK, true confessions time.
A friend of mine hauled out his pre-lit Christmas tree this year to find that only the very top and very bottom of the tree still lighted.
After trying every trick and circuit-breaker, he went out and bought strings and strings of lights to complete the tree.
-
You can probably guess where this is going.
After completely lighting and decorating the whole tree around the non-working lights, there was suddenly a loud *POP*.
And, suddenly, the original lights, the ones that had still been working, gave up the ghost.
-
I haven't laughed so hard in a long time.
Does that make me a terrible person?
-
I did pass along my condolences.
-
Hello, 2 Guests!
-
Gratuitous post #136!
-
Finished with my viewing, which consisted of lasting through act one of The Cunning Little Vixen in yet another "vision" production that sets the standard for how not to do this stuff. Then it was a little of a new opera of Pinocchio - not much to my liking, so now I'm back to Adriadne and Naxos, real music, beautifully played and sung and recorded. Ahhhhhh.
-
That said, I really like Janacek's music, so I'll try a recording and another video iteration that's supposed to be very good - Nicholas Hytner is involved in that one.
-
I gotta tell you.
-
Tomorrow will be a no-pizza day - may go over to Gelson's and see if there's something there to my liking or I'll just get something - maybe Casa Vega - been too long without and it's an easy pick-up for me.
-
I haven't laughed so hard in a long time.
Does that make me a terrible person?
;D
-
I did pass along my condolences.
That was kind of you ;D
-
I can't remember the last time we had Mexican food.
-
I made it to Louisville.
-
I am pleased to see you have arrived. Have a good visit.
-
Now I know DR John is done with his long drive......
-
'night
.
In the meadow we can build a snow dog
And pretend that he's a living hound . . .
He’ll say, are you saved?
We’ll say, hell bound.
-
BK, if you are having trouble getting into that other Richard Strauss opera, I suggest listening to the whole thing when you first wake up. I have always found that morning becomes Electra.
Hello, George.
