Well, you've read the notes, the notes needed vibes and xylophones, and now it is time for you to post until the needy cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: FANTABULOUS!
-
Happy Birthday to (former?) DR Kate!
-
Have a good day, all!
-
~~~THE MOST EXCELLENT VIBES AND XYLOPHONES YOU CAN GET~~~ miracle vibes for bk!
-
And the word of the day is: FANTABULOUS!
So says the character Connie in Tales of the City.
-
Oh, and good morning, everyone.
-
DR Jrand70... I found the sheet music for a song that looks like it would pair well on a concert program with Chiri Biri Bim!
-
Good morning, all!
Thank you, all, for last night's vibes. Last February and March, when I learned about the kidney tumor, I went through several bad anxiety attacks about dying and leaving the cats. A very dear friend has told me he will take them, but I would like to leave funds to help pay for their keep. This is one reason that I would like to get Moonshine and Mistletoe off the ground and the Annabelle & Thatch book published. They are my only real hopes of getting a nice annuity for my estate.
Maybe it's because I know so many prostate cancer survivors - and we do not know if I have cancer - that I'm not yet fretting about anything.
-
My neighbor Judy showed up at my door three times yesterday: two package deliveries and a pumpkin pie she had baked for me. Not a slice, but a whole pie, which I need like a diabetic coma. One package was treats for the cats, and the other, which I'd completely forgotten about, was an Amazon.co.uk delivery of one of my favorite movies, which really creeps me out, The Woman in Black, which has only been available in shoddy transfers for some time.
I'm not sure what my plans are for today, but I really must seriously vacuum the apartment.
-
My cousin John is in a Kentucky hospital with Covid-19. He posted on Facebook that was had been diagnosed, and Randy called me to tell me he had been hospitalized. Yesterday his daughter sent me a Facebook message that he was on a ventilator, and this morning he was on dialysis. I'm worried about him.
I like this photo of him and his bird. He liked my Annabelle and Thatch tales so much that he adopted a kitten, and the cat, bird, and dog all get along quite well.
-
Sorry to hear this, DR elmore3003. ~~~TREATMENT AND RECOVERY VIBES~~~ for your cousin John.
-
Kitty cleanup this morning had a Proustian moment without a cup of tea or a madeleine. I was sitting on the toilet seat tying up the bag of litter when I was suddenly a small boy sitting on the sofa and learning how to tie my shoes from my mother.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Mega vibes for your cousin, Elmore. His beautiful bird must be stressed out.
-
Good morning to all.
-
I always loved The Pajama Game for the way it treated the score so faithfully, but, no it’s not a great movie. The script is so reduced it barely makes sense. Raitt looks deformed in his high waters pushed up too far on his waist. But the Steam Heat number is a beaut. And I like Once a Year Day.
-
I like The Pajama Game, but I like Damn Yankees more.
-
Good morning, all.
-
That is devastating news about your cousin John, DR Elmore. My strongest vibes go out to him.
-
Vibes and xylophones for BK, and for everyone else who needs them today. And I know it's a lot of people.
We'll all get through the things we're going through, but -- metaphorically in sync with the very annoying weather about to happen -- I feel like we've had a break of sorts since the holidays, and now the real winter (of our souls? :) ) has caught up with us.
-
Good morning!
Vibes for DR elmore.
Latest postal report: I received my sister's Christmas card and gift (card) yesterday. It was postmarked December 8, 2020.
-
Happy Birthday to (former?) DR Kate!
Thanks, DR George. I'll relay your good wishes to her!
-
I like The Pajama Game, but I like Damn Yankees more.
BINGO!
I've never gotten all the way through the DVD, probably due to a combination of the weak elements of the film, the crappy DVD, and very likely my own moods not being receptive to it whenever I did try to watch it.
I know I won't have that problem with the Blu-ray. But I SO HOPE we will be able to add Damn Yankees to our stashes before too long.
HA!
Vibes for DR ELMORE's cousin.
-
I like DR KEVINH's list for the TOD.
I will add:
On Moonlight Bay & By The Light of Silvery Moon
I especially like Teacher's Pet & That Touch of Mink because the third wheel is played by Gig Young. I think he would have made a much better rival for Rock Hudson than Tony Randall ever did....TR was so damned annoying. There was NO WAY Doris' characters were going to end up with him!
I will also add SEND ME NO FLOWERS & MOVE OVER, DARLING to the list - they both have terrific supporting casts.
-
Today is my FIRST sister's birthday. I was three years and five months old when she was born. And my older brother and I were so excited when she came home!
What a thrill!
-
and now the real winter (of our souls? :) ) has caught up with us.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the DS of DR Jrand70!
-
I just received in the mail a complimentary set of curettes. I think I'm supposed to dig ear wax out with them, but they look like pretty scary implements.
-
Watching the staged version of Bach's St. Matthew Passion with Sir Simon Rattle and the Berlin Philharmonic.
I'm up, I'm up - six-and-a-half hours of sleep.
I received a piece of mail in Louisville after I left. So, Mom sent it to me in a new envelope. It has now been 2 weeks and it still hasn't arrived.
-
I just finished Miss Scarlet and the Duke for the season. Very much enjoyed. I wonder what I will watch next.
-
I checked out a Chilean cookbook from the library called, appropriately enough, The Chilean Kitchen. it has several recipes of traditional dishes that I tried on my visit there, and many more that I want to try. But it is a most perverse cookbook in terms of the recipes matching up with the photos. They don't.
In one recipe, the writer tells us to not use cast-iron because it will react with the tomatoes, so the photo, of course, features the dish in a cast-iron skillet. In another recipe, the dish is to be inverted onto a serving plate so that the cooking slows down by being out of the hot pan; it is photographed served straight from the pan. And so on. It's really strange.
-
It's supposed to be sunny, but it looks like rain. I guess I had better take advantage of that and get a little gardening done in case it gets too hot.
-
Back from a brisk walk before the predicted ice sets in.
-
Saturday afternoon greetings! I missed checking in here yesterday, but apparently was logged in.
-
Anyway, we picked up a big grocery order yesterday in anticipation of the snow/rain/snow rain event that's predicted for tonight, tomorrow, and Monday. There's a big batch of chili in the crockpot that should be ready about the time the snow arrives.
-
DR Elmore, you and your cousin John have my heartiest prayers and health vibes!
-
Chili sounds so great. But I'm not really up to getting the ingredients together and making it this time around. And we've already got plenty of stuff that needs eatin' over the next few days.
I do, however, have everything required for chili, cheese and onion hot dogs!
Do you deliver?
-
I did a little more than an hour of yard work. Got the roses trimmed back and one bush that needs work. that filled the can, so the rest will have to wait until after Monday's yard waste pickup.
I cleared away a little spot to put in some radish plants, but there is an underground cable in the path. I don't want to go near it.
Three!
Back from breakfast at Hugo's - pasta papa in the car. And here's the hilarity part: I've been doing the Hugo's breakfast in the car since November, when outdoor dining was canned. I eat in the car in their parking lot and in all those Saturdays there has not been ONE other person doing that. Until today. Today there were two. Guess I started another trend.
-
Picked up no mail (hadn't arrived yet) and am now home, having proofed another fifty pages. So, I might finish proofing today but if not, certainly tomorrow.
-
Michael Hordern is a perfect comic actor, and the silliness he finds himself in in Joseph Andrews is the best part of the movie. It could have been better, but it's a fun bit of escape. I haven't read the book since I was in grade school or high school when the movie came out back in 1976.
It sure isn't Tom Jones, but I do love Beryl Reid as Slipslop.
-
I think Ann-Margret's Lady Booby is also quite wonderful, too. I think the movie's problem might be that Tony Richardson seems more interested in the grime, bawdiness and lechery of 18th century England than the style and elegance that Tom Jones had. Maybe he needed John Osborne to write the screenplay?
-
I have the BBC Shakespeare's The Tempest with Michael Hordern as Prospero, and he's so befuddled as Baptista in Zeffirelli's Taming of the Shrew.
Hello, everyone.
I did today's laundry and am taking a break.
Plant a radish, get a radish-
Not a brussels spout.
That's why I love vegetables-
We are also looking at Miss Scarlett episodes.
The DH thinks that Stuart Martin looks a bit like Hugh Jackman.
Set your mind back to New Year’s Day 2000. Could you, even your wildest dreams or most horrible nightmare, have imagined the world we have been living in for the last year??
A friend and I took a cruise to the Caribbean around NY 2000 to celebrate the millennium. We met and were chatting with a woman who had a relative who worked in intelligence for the US government. Her relative was very disturbed by the information they were getting, but could not reveal anything specific. He did tell her to stay put and not try to do any further travel. Even though this information was second-hand I found it very disturbing and didn't just dismiss it. September 11, 2001, of course, proved him correct.
As for Covid, I recall feeling quite nervous during the SARS epidemic in Asia in 2003. It felt very real to me and I was concerned that it might spread further. The epidemiologists have said for years a pandemic could occur. I wish Congress had listened. We never know when -- or if -- these things will occur, but my vote is to be prepared. When Covid started last March 80% of our PPE was coming from China, with whom we were having non-stop trade wars. To me that was shocking, a real vulnerability. To me the biggest surprise was just how very, very unprepared the US was.
-
Another successful grocery order today. Placed the order online at 8:30am, and the items were delivered an hour and a quarter later. Ain't technology grand?
-
Points very well taken, DR Jeanne. So many things in the current world are shocking to me.
-
I watched MISS SCARLET last night, too. I've been watching a couple episodes a week. I have a major issue with some of the writing, which I mentioned before, but I enjoy the series otherwise.
-
DR Jrand70, I have tried to order one-sided paper online and no one seems to have it in stock.
I think I'm going to file a PayPal complaint.
-
I'm glad this is working out so well for you. You're placing the orders with your supermarket's website? Are you able to buy most of your groceries from just one store, whether in-store or online?
-
DR Jeanne, I've been thinking about your medical situation.
Sometimes, it seems as though the medical/insurance process grinds excruciatingly and frustratingly slowly.
-
DR Jeanne, ordering through Amazon/Whole Foods. I would rather support a locally owned business; I get it. But as I am in several higher-risk comorbidity categories, I have to think about my own well-being more at the moment until I am able to access the vaccine.
-
They're out of one-sided paper? See what happens when you rely too much on just one or two vendors? Shocking!
-
I've been told that pickle brine is a good and healthy alternative for oil when popping corn. Intriguing.
-
I don't think you need to apologize for using WF. Many of us use them for some things that we can't get elsewhere. I can't get all my groceries from any one store, which complicates things, but I've been very happy with the personal shopper I use from time to time.
Once you get the vaccine, please continue to be cautious. No vaccine is 100% and it appears that even those who have been vaccinated can still spread the virus. The vaccine is just one piece of the puzzle.
-
I've also been reading account of a fellow that ate only potatoes for a year to break his food addiction. And that, other than a required B12 vitamin supplement, a number of credential doctors state that this is a healthy path. During this year, he suffered no ill effects; in fact quite the opposite.
Sounds crazy, no?
-
The vaccine is just one piece of the puzzle.
Absolutely.
Yes, that we were so unprepared, or that the WH would consider it nothing, was the shock to me. I remember being pleased when Obama increased our precautions and missed the memo where Trump trashed them.
I never imagined the US would have the most cases in the entire world.
DR Jeanne, I've been thinking about your medical situation.
Sometimes, it seems as though the medical/insurance process grinds excruciatingly and frustratingly slowly.
Yes. I have not had the really horrible experiences that some people have had -- mine are more of the annoying and frustrating variety. But I see so many blunders that could easily be fixed. That was prior to Covid, and Covid, of course, has made everything more difficult.
Last week I spoke to my surgeon directly. That was a coup of sorts as they channel everything to the PA. I had to be insistent and probably ruffled a few feathers in the process, but I feel strongly that I have the right to talk to my doctor. Such an uppity female! I've long felt that for these large bureaucracies the convenience of the institution takes priority over the welfare of the patient. You have to fight with them sometimes.
-
I never imagined the US would have the most cases in the entire world.
Yes, I would never have expected that.
-
An all-potato diet? I used to love potatoes, but even I couldn't abide that!
-
Speaking of food, it's time for me to have some lunch.
TTFN.
-
I opened a touching story of John Stamos talking about his two year old crying because Stamos has to quarantine after being exposed to covid.
"The actor, who is father to son Billy, 2, who he shares with wife Caitlin McHugh,"
More than once the article mentioned he shares the kid with his wife. Why does that have to be stated since they are married & live together.
-
That is odd, DR Jane!
-
I thought so.
Impressive, indeed.
I didn't read the whole article, but I am wondering how they take into account that folks inside the bubble are inevitably going to have interactions with people outside the bubble. And that is the crux of the problem.
-
What the HELL?
BK, did you know about this one? Sorry for bad pics, they aren't mine.
Can they have reissued the Warner Bros. one? It looks like no orchestra credit here, either. The plot thickens.
I think you're right. Richardson took credit for the story, but whoever did the actual writing built everything up into Ann-Margret dropping an f-bomb. Hardly witty
I think tonight we will try the first episode of the show.
I went for a little walk on the gravel loop out back. Walking back up the swans were on the grass enjoying a meal. The male swan was very close to the path & as I passed him he made scary sounds at me ;D
-
Good night, everyone.
-
Tom Jones remains a wonderful romp.
-
Five!
-
Picked up another Talavera pot for up front and bought some flowers that won't likely last too long if the heat picks up. The pansies were half off because they sort of outgrew their temporary pot. They made me feel sorry for them. They're in a bit of a clump, and I'll try to straighten them out tomorrow.
-
I also picked up a couple of peppers, a lemon thyme and some lettuce, which I'll enjoy for awhile. Again, when it gets hot, the lettuce won't make it.
-
Watched a movie and had a couple slices of pizza for a snack, but mostly I've been proofing. I think I'll try and finish this evening. About fifty pages to go.
-
I'm off to bed. I have a couple of books I'd like to get further into, if I can keep my eyes open.
I was at my mom's for the day.
We had tofu curry over rice (I picked out the shrimp and mushrooms :P ) and played Phase 10.
-
Then, I did a little shopping.
-
Then, I came home.
-
Then, I took out my trash and recyclables.
-
Then, I turned on my computer and caught up on my FB feed.
So, I'm here.
:)
-
Oh, I also checked out several e-books from the library and downloaded them to my newer Kindle.
-
I found my older Kindle and had to plug it in to recharge the battery because it's been a very long time since I'd used it.
-
It's now charged, and since I finished reading Troubled Blood, I need to decide on my next book to read.
-
When my older Kindle was charged up enough, I found that I was on chapter 4 of a book, and not only do I not remember what's happened up to this point, I didn't even remember that I was in the middle of a book on that Kindle. ::)
-
I'll probably end up reading that, but I'll start back at the beginning.
-
It's a fairly short book, so it won't take long to ketchup to where I ended.
-
But, if anything seems familiar enough, I can always jump to where I had left off before.
-
But, we'll see.
-
And now, since we're so close...
-
PAGE SIX DANCE!!
-
Whew!
-
Now, I need to ketchup on today's posts!
-
And the word of the day is: FANTABULOUS!
So says the character Connie in Tales of the City.
A former library director always used to use the word "splendiferous."
That's a great picture! And that's so cool about him adopting all the animals because of your stories! :D
