Well, you've read the notes, the notes were rich, and now it is time for you to post until the rich cows come home.

I slept rather well.  I had a long dream in which I had a meeting about Midsomer Murders with John Nettles, its original star. Then I had to go to my apartment to pick up some DVDs - Goldoni's comedy The Liar was one of them - and I ran into my college friend Karen Eifert, whom I've not seen in the last five years or so, although she lives about 15 blocks from me.  I told her to come see my new apartment, which was at Broadway and 86th Street, and we ended up in the elevator forever since it kept passing the seventh floor.

Once I finish clean up and getting yesterday's mail, I will finish up my taxes. Depending on how long the tallies take, I will then type up my report for my accountant.

DR George, thanks for the link, but that production with those dancers prancing about looks terrible.  I've seen Peleas and Melisande twice in my life, and I'm convinced it's more fun to listen to Debussy's score than to watch it.

DR singdaw, yes, the Respighi Lauda Per la Nativita is really glorious.  I have been wanting to see this highly praised production of his Sleeping Beauty opera.

DR Elmore, did the Met ever do a telecast of Pelleas? I'm thinking they probably wouldn't have, but if they did, I never saw it.

I see that a 1983 broadcast is included in the Levine CD set, and that I hadn't yet removed the shrink wrap on this one. That will be rectified. He did it at the school, and I studied it pretty closely back then and fell in love with it. My only recordings, which I still have, were Ansermet and Cluytens.

Which reminds me of the time we were doing Pippin - and during the Catherine sequence, I told Pippin and the two boys to go off stage left, get their hoes, and come back across the stage.

One night in rehearsal they each came back with a random girl and walked across the stage.....

Just watched as much as I could stomach of that Scottish Opera thing. It's worse than a grade school production. The "director", who seems to be barely out of college, has a vision, you see. Contemporary, no attempt at having the Hansel at least look like a boy, socially distanced, of course, a reduced orchestra. Just amateur and the comments must all be from school children or friends.

Peeps are not food. They are an acquired tasted. Unfortunately, for me, I have acquired the taste. And yes, I would try a hot tamale version in a split second. Sugar, chemical compounds, cinnamon and more sugar. What could be bad about that?

Costco did not raise the price of gasoline, so I was able to fill up for $1.84 a gallon. That was nice.

They did not have any eggs and the sign up front said no water. But I discovered that that was just bottled still water. They had plenty of San Pellegrino on sale as well as other types of mineral and sparkling water. So, I grabbed a cased of San Pellegrino.

Walmart didn't have any water either. In fact, their entire perishables area, from meat to dairy, was empty. I don't know if everyone had bought everything or if it spoiled in a power outage, but it was empty.

I did grab the last 12-pack of lime-flavored seltzer.

I hope that's enough water for a few days.

Best of all, I got to feel some sun on my face. Felt luxurious, healing.

I know that wonderful feeling.

TOD

I can't think of anything we have seen I would say is worthy of Best Film.  MANK might have nominations for the acting.

The film we enjoyed the most was LOVE AND MONSTERS.

John do you have any eggs?

yes. I think I have eight. I'm not using them at the moment.

I am starting to watch the Italian film Martin Eden. I don't have high hopes, despite some rave reviews.

Jack London's book was a savage satire on the inevitable fallibility of socialism. This looks like it is an embrace of socialism, Italian style. For more than 2 hours.

It's also modern day, not set at the turn of the 20th century.

I think you will be ok unless you eat or bake with a lot of eggs.

Right. I am changing what I eat during this time. Things that don't need to be prepared by washing it in advance or by adding water. I have switched from apples to grapefruit only for a few days. I have eaten some produce, such as some cherry tomatoes, already washed. But I'm running out of those.

The good news today is that one area of Bexar County lifted the boil water advisory. Maybe my area will be soon.

I did some laundry and finished up with PBS's series on The Black Church. Fascinating.

Need to find some videos of Rosetta Tharp, who sang gospel in nightclubs and played a mean electric guitar.

DR George, thanks for the link, but that production with those dancers prancing about looks terrible.  I've seen Peleas and Melisande twice in my life, and I'm convinced it's more fun to listen to Debussy's score than to watch it.

That doesn't surprise me.  I like opera, but I don't "know" opera, so I don't really know what's supposed to be good or not. ::)

Tonight we're celebrating Nathan's birthday which is actually tomorrow. He's picked a new-ish Mexican restaurant delivery for the foodstuffs, a place I didn't even know about, and I'm greatly looking forward to that.

A Very Happy (but belated, by now) Birthday to Nathan!!

Walgreens/Duane Reade has turned me down for the virus vaccine because I said yes to their question if I had cancer, diabetes, sickle cell anemia, etc.

WTF??  Why would that matter??

Which reminds me of the time we were doing Pippin - and during the Catherine sequence, I told Pippin and the two boys to go off stage left, get their hoes, and come back across the stage.

One night in rehearsal they each came back with a random girl and walked across the stage.....

:o

Costco did not raise the price of gasoline, so I was able to fill up for $1.84 a gallon. That was nice.

They did not have any eggs and the sign up front said no water. But I discovered that that was just bottled still water. They had plenty of San Pellegrino on sale as well as other types of mineral and sparkling water. So, I grabbed a cased of San Pellegrino.

I love San Pellegrino.

I was in a play where San Pellegrino was mentioned in the script and the actor had a lot of fun with a bit in that moment.  I can't really describe what happened in that moment, but I just remember that it was pretty funny. :)

George, THE PROM does count, because it was released as a film.  HAMILTON would not count, because it was just a taped version of a Broadway production.
