Well, you've read the notes, the notes returned, and now it is time for you to post until the returning cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: DIFFIDENT!
-
~~~Most Excellent Vibes and Xylophones for BK's Reassuring News!!~~~
-
The first time I ever heard (or heard of) today's word of the day was in this lyric (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=imFQEdL4Bjk):
When a man with a timid tongue
Meets a girl with a diffident air
Why should the tortured creatures beat around the bush
When heaven knows mother nature always needs a little push
So I put my hand in here
I put my hand in there
;D
Today is my niece's 37th birthday(!), and we're all going to my mom's to celebrate. Her other grandmother and her aunt and uncle have been invited, too, but I don't know if they're all going to come over. It'll be fun. :)
-
But first, I'm off to bed.
Have a good day, all!
-
Good morning, all!
-
Not a bad night of sleep. When it got really chilly in the apartment around 3:00, Thatch snuggled up close to me and Annabelle or Stella crawled under the blankets to the bottom of the bed and settled into the space between my heel and knee.
-
In the dark I can tell the cats apart by these aids: Stella has the longest hair, Annabelle the shortest, and Thatch has a crick atr the top of his tail from where it was broken when he was still a feral cat on a Bronx garage roof.
-
So, last night when one of the cats headed under the blankets, I thought it was Stella, but this morning I'm pretty certain it was Annabelle. I thought it was Stella because she had been sleeping with me and Thatch most of the night, and I wasn't too awake when these early morning activities occurred.
-
I'm not doing much today, mainly snuggling with the cats and lying about.
-
DR Jeanne, I'm happy things appear to be progressing nicely.
-
BK, good news about the car. Since I'm not a driver, I am puzzled by this 50 mile situation.
-
Yesterday, I started to lay out events for my new book, Annabelle, Thatch, and Stella: More Cat Tales from 82nd Street. If I don't begin a new one, I'll keep tweaking the first to death!
-
~~~Most Excellent Vibes and Xylophones for BK's Reassuring News!!~~~
Ditto.
-
Good morning, all.
-
I am missing the beautiful weather back home. The temperature here is warming up to 46 degrees.

I had a good night of sleep, too, with one dream in the middle of the night and another in the morning -- the two of them somewhat related and on familiar themes, but nothing significant to report about them. It was a peaceful night.

TOD
Well, believe it or not, the one diet that has ever worked for me was what I was then calling the Atkins Diet. I first tried it in summer of 2001. I had an early version of his book that I sort of half-read. But the theory made sense to me, and I happen to love the kinds of foods you can eat to your heart's content, and I did lose -- I don't remember specifically now, but I'm thinking it was 15 pounds in several weeks and a few more after that.
And did I gain it back? Yes, after a while, because -- wait for it -- I gradually got lazy and returned to my former eating habits. You reap what you sow, I think someone said once. But I did it, again successfully, a couple of other times, and believe you me, it's time for another go at it. And like BK says, at this age you really have make a diet work because the older you get the harder it is to lose that thing around your waist (for men, at least, I don't know about women).
The thing about Atkins (aka Keto) is that you really must do it in a concentrated way at first or your body won't go into ketosis in which you literally pee out those fat cells. My first time, I got some of those strips -- I think they're actually called keto strips or something like that -- to prove that you're doing just that, and by God, I was doing it. And you can feel the difference in "tightness" and energy.
Like any diet, it works for some and not others. Apparently those of us with O-type blood are prone to doing well on it, and it seems to work for men a little easier than for women. And you have to stay on it. Like any diet, if you simply stop and go back to your old habits, your weight will follow. But here's the thing: After being on it strictly for several weeks or whatever it takes to get the body doing what you want it to, you can begin to introduce more of the "good" carbs into your diet and make it more balanced. You can even splurge once in a great while, because when you go right back to being good, the body will remember and behave appropriately.
Hell, I'd forgotten I have a couple of boxes of Atkins bars in a cabinet that are probably still good. Even if you aren't on the diet, they do make excellent "filling" snacks.
-
Good morning, friends.
-
I slept in until 7:00am - a real rarity.
-
And I would have probably slept even later, but a sound woke me up. One of the 3M "no-stick" hanger doodads failed, and a framed picture was left hanging at quite a peculiar angle. That picture happened to be right next to the bed.
-
Happy Birthday to the DN of DR George.
-
When I went to read today's notes, I realized that I somehow missed reading yesterday's notes. Whoops!
A few of yesterday's posts that didn't make sense to me originally now make sense.
Lesson learned: Don't Skip The Notes! :)

~~~MOST EXCELLENT VIBES AND XYLOPHONES FOR THINGS TO WORK SMOOTHLY FOR THE NEXT FEW DAYS~~~ for bk!!!!!
-
Good morning, all.
-
Intermittent fasting seems to be working for me. I try not to eat, except from 10:30 am to 7:30 pm. That should actually be an hour shorter except I never get to dinner early enough. But it has kept my blood sugar down.
-
TOD: At one point, 15 years ago now, I was seeing a nutritionist and following her guidelines. I developed a personalized tracking sheet. And everything had to be tracked. Over a period of a year, I lost over 125 pounds.
And eventually, over the years, I went back to my old habits and gained it all back.
-
Intermittent fasting
I have been meaning to give this a try.
-
TWO mints in one!
-
Que es un "Diet"?
-
I think I shall watch the funeral this morning.
-
I plan to as well, DR Jrand70.
-
Intermittent fasting sounds like it has some definite benefits, and I would see myself as one who could do that without much problem.
-
Well, if you can believe it, it's a Saturday, once again.
And those crazy kids are off to Hartford to get their second Pfizer shots.
-
Good for them.
-
Already some striking television images from England.
-
DR Jane I am enjoying reading about your trip. I did not realize that your other son was there too.
-
Last week we had Summer temps, but this week it is much cooler. :(
-
(Still musing upon this): You know what would be my one (and it's a huge one) obstacle with intermittent fasting?
I could do the hours, and eating basically two meals per day -- at, say, 11:00 am and 7:00 pm or something close to that. But I have a late evening snacking addiction that seriously needs to leave the building.
Last week we had Summer temps, but this week it is much cooler. :(
Here, too. It was in the low 50s when I woke up.
-
Good afternoon!
-
Good morning.
-
I picked up a vegetable box this morning. There are 12 pounds of grape tomatoes, 7 pounds of red/orange bell peppers, and 11 white onions. And other things. I'm cooking down a few dozen plum tomatoes to make into sauce.
-
Yes, 12 pounds of grape tomatoes.
-
You know, I was just about to ask if I could borrow some grape tomatoes from someone till payday.
-
It's cool but absolutely gorgeous outside, which is making me feel guilty for staying indoors and doing indoors stuff today.
You can't win.
-
A little bit about the music from today's funeral service:
https://www.heart.co.uk/news/royals/prince-philip/funeral-music-hymns/
"Eternal Father, Strong to Save," aka The Navy hymn, plays a very important [art in Benjemin Britten's wonderful children's opera, Noye's Fludde.
-
12 pounds of grape tomatoes, Laura? You could make that TikTok recipe with the feta cheese with those. If you can find the feta.
-
To Scott Rudin, I have only one thing to say, "Bye, Felicia!" (Wait, he didn't produce the Friday movies, did he?)
-
Someone on Facebook has posted the video of On the 20th Century in the Actors Fund benefit with Marin Mazzie, Doug Sills and Joanne Worley. Here goes 2.5 hours and a reason not to be on Facebook.
I love the score of that show too much.
I love the score of that show too much.
I do, too, and the fact that Hershy Kay did the orchestrations makes me consider the show Coleman's Candide.
Yup. From the first notes of the overture.
I think Stephen Colbert is one of the tap-dancing, singing red caps on the train.
I'm up, I'm up - just about eight hours of sleep. Got up at eleven and had lots of e-mails to answer and answer them I did.
DR Jane I am enjoying reading about your trip. I did not realize that your other son was there too.
Thank you. Since he has also been vaccinated he took time off of work and came to us. I don't think he will be traveling by plane again in the near future as he ended up in the middle seat on a full flight. Understandably he felt very uncomfortable..
-
This morning we visited Bryan for a bit before he went to sleep.
-
Then we took Freyja for a walk ending at the park.
-
First she went on the swing and then down the slides. Keith & Craig took turns lifting her to the top of the slides and sliding her down. I would go up the steps, then Craig put her in my lap and we slid down to Keith, not that we really went fast enough to need catching. All in all she had lots of sliding time.
-
Once we returned her to Kate we walked downtown and did a bit of shopping and enjoyed a delicious cannelloni.
-
Part way back to the hotel we left Craig to explore a couple of record shops.
-
In total we walked 10 miles.
-
So, last night when one of the cats headed under the blankets, I thought it was Stella, but this morning I'm pretty certain it was Annabelle. I thought it was Stella because she had been sleeping with me and Thatch most of the night, and I wasn't too awake when these early morning activities occurred.
DR Elmore - do the cats ever cuddle together?
-
Good Afternoon - not much happening this weekend. Some work, no play, etc. Glad to see everyone is doing well as well.
-
Present company excluded. Or at least, speaking for myself.
-
Continuing to enjoy DR Jane's reports. I understand your son's reticence about flying, and I am afraid that is what we will encounter in July.
There is absolutely no way that I would feel comfortable doing this even if I was vaccinated. Hopefully the other passengers were at least considerate.
Thank you. He flew Southhwest which doesn't have assigned seats and was unfortunately in the last boarding group. He said his return flight tomorrow is in the second group and he should be able to avoid the middle seat.
One was :D
-
He attempted to pay an extra $30 for early boarding and someone beat him to the last upgrade available.
-
After all the walking today Keith, Craig & I just went back up to the rooftop dining tonight. The view of the city is pretty.
-
I splurged and had a second Old Fashioned which I split with Craig who originally introduced me to them. It was one half more than I should have had D
It is a rare treat and will be a long time before I have one again.
-
I had a delicious 4 cheese grilled cheese sandwich with a tomato bisque for dipping.
-
Watching Mildred Pierce.
Which version?
-
Four!
-
Jane, your trip is sounding very relaxing. I hope you are enjoying it as much as we are enjoying reading about it.
-
I'm not going to get dinner until late tonight. Well, late for the intermittent fasting. I just put it in the oven and it takes an hour to cook.
-
I meant to start earlier, but I went shopping instead. Bought a plumbago and some more pots.
-
For dinner, it's mushroom and leek pot pie. The original recipe called for chicken, but I wasn't in the mood. Plus, I had plenty of mushrooms I had to use.
-
Now, it's time for Sorcerer.
-
I'm taking note.
-
Duly noted.
-
The scenes in Sorcerer of the trucks crossing a dilapidated bridge in a rain storm remains of the most tense, thrilling scenes I can remember.
-
Gratuitous post No. 99!
-
Jane, your trip is sounding very relaxing. I hope you are enjoying it as much as we are enjoying reading about it.
Thank you though I would call it relaxing. City life is a bit stressful for us.
They are just out of the oven. They smell great and look spectacular. Now to wait until they're cool enough to be eaten.
Eat or be eaten.
Good night, friends.
-
Good night, Singdaw.
-
Time to start The Wages of Fear. I haven't seen this movie in years either. And while it's based on the same novel as Sorcerer, the two are so very different while sharing some basic plot similarities.
-
Time to start The Wages of Fear.
For a second there I thought that was a threat
Today is my niece's 37th birthday(!), and we're all going to my mom's to celebrate. Her other grandmother and her aunt and uncle have been invited, too, but I don't know if they're all going to come over. It'll be fun. :)
Well, the other grandmother, aunt and uncle did come over to my mom's to celebrate and we all had a good time. My mom made schnitzel (German breaded pork chops) and some tofu schnitzel (for my sister and niece).
-
Another friend of my mom's (a former co-worker that we've all known for years) also came over for the party. We all just ate and chatted and had Costco cheesecake with pie fillings for toppings and a good time was had by all. :)
Back from a long three-hour commentary session - I think it went well and we covered a lot of stuff - it wasn't really organized as a discussion because I had no notes with me, but I wanted it to be spontaneous and free-wheeling, which I think it is. Doing the Outside the Box commentaries was really hard - to fit everything in in five or six minutes was daunting but we kind of did. Marshall and Hartley were great.
-
We finished just before six and then we moseyed on back to the Valley and went to Stanley's and dined indoors with a few others. I had my chicken Caesar and Marshall had a burger. Then I finally came home.
-
I was greeted with about fifty e-mails so I got through those, I think we're very close to finalizing the Blu-ray cover wrap, and then Doug will lay out the booklet and that will be that. I'm hoping that can go directly to their printers so that once they have their master ready they can replicate and not have to wait on the print.
Speaking of Titanic...I watched tonight's rebroadcast of a Saturday Night Live episode from 1998 and they had an animated segment for a (fake) Disney animated musical version of Titanic called Titey, starring Jason Alexander as the voice of Titey, Whoopie Goldberg as the voice of the iceberg, Gilbert Godfried as Napoleon, and Molly Ringwald as Anne Frank!
That was funny! :))
I found that you can watch it here:
