Well, you've read the notes, the notes shouted bravo and mentored, and now it is time for you to post until the mentored cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: VERSAL!
-
Topic of the Day: so yesterday, I came across this video that's been up since December 2015. It's a concert of the music of John Williams, with Gustavo Dudamel conducting the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Walt Disney Concert Hall. There are interview moments between Gustavo Dudamel and John Williams and others, but they're all dubbed in French, and you can't hear what they're saying in English. But it's a good concert! Here's the link:

Good morning, friends.
-
:)
-
That mentoring session sounds great. I hope that teenager appreciates the distillation of knowledge she's getting.
-
Good morning, all!
-
I had a rather good night of sleep, but Jerry Herman's "It Takes A Woman" kept running through my head. Mayber I do need DR vixmom to bring that carton up to my apartment and then kick Mark's butt?
Actually, I would love a visit from DRs vixmom, ChasSmith, or others.
-
Today I must organize cat food. I got the Big Ladder out two days ago abd brought several cartons of Fancy Feast down and then ordered ordered more, the reason for delivery of one of the Chew.com cartons yesterday. Now I must organize their breakfasts and dinners for the next month or so abnd put the remainder away, which means getting the Big Ladder out again.
-
Then I took all the cans of Fancy Feast that my cats refuse to eat down to my neighbor Katy's apartment for her cat Lola.
-
I am very happy to see that BK has fallen for the macabre charms of Balanchine's La Valse. That and the City Ballet's full-length ballet Coppélia are two productions I really want to see live.
The City Ballet's Coppélia - choreographed by Balanchine and one of his ex-wives, the great ballerina Alexandra Danilova - was shown on PBS in 1978. It looks like the complete ballet was shown, but only Act Three is on YouTube.

DR George, that Stratford Festival production of King Lear is on DVD. I have it, along with several other Stratford productions.

And it's time for kitty cleanup! Then I will head downstairs with the recyclables.

Then I will head downstairs with the recyclables.
Just did that, myself.
-
Lola is gorgeous!
-
Good morning, all.

She looks like our little Kali.
-
And the word of the day is: VERSAL!
But it really should be BLUP-RAY!
-
The NYC Ballet in Paris disc sounds irresistible. I just put the Blup-Ray of it in my Save For Later.
-
Well, the 40 lb. carton still sits where I left it yesterday afternoon at the bottom of the steps into the lobby. I was really hoping some kind neighbor who carry it up to the lobby. I can deal with it from there.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Extremely tired today.
-
I've seen carts advertised with a wheel contraption that is supposed to navigate stairs.
-
And the word of the day is: VERSAL!
Isn't that some fancy French palace?
-
TOD
First Cow is the only movie in from the library
I don’t know what else
-
And the word of the day is: VERSAL!
But it really should be BLUP-RAY!
My thoughts, exactly.

Budweiser has a canned gin and tonic out. Avoid it like the plague. First sip tasted like the can with a touch of tonic. Second sip tasted more like the can. There was not a third sip.
-
Does anyone here know anything about this album? It doesn't appear to be available for purchase, but at least some of it it available on the Tube of You.
-
Well, we just had some good news. Randy called me. We have an offer on the Ohio property if we are willing to drop the price by $10,000. Should we?
I said, does the pope wear a tall hat?

My neighbor Judy, during Passover, brought me a bag of coconut macaroons. They were stale and tasted like burning rubber smells.
-
Oh, DR elmore3003 - I do hope and pray that the deal happens. Does Macbeth have to sign off on the drop in price, too? Is that possible?
-
Today is apparently the 60th anniversary of Judy Garland's famous Carnegie Hall concert.
-
Yes DR ELMORE. The stars are right.
-
Smog test vibes for MR BK and his fuel burning oracle.
-
Barnum is singing and playing with his abacus this morning. Maybe he's going to write me that check for his bird seed & treats.
-
Nice reading about the ballet DVD.
-
DR TCB I am playing King Louis XI - aka The Prudent.....But I will offer to understudy the lead - one never knows when an actor will fall out of the bell tower.
-
Signed: Steve Harrington.
-
I wondered about that smog test and what mileage had to do with it.
Here in CT you have an emissions check every two years, period. They send you a reminder and you can do it right away or wait till closer to your due date, but whether you've driven zero miles or one million miles is irrelevant.
Zillions of shops are licensed to do it, and it's $20. (Oddly, the $20 has to be paid in cash, even if you're having other work done and paying another way for that. I have no idea how or why that rule came about.)
It's easy and convenient, but when I moved here over thirty years ago it was HELL ON EARTH. The state did the testing at their own handful of locations where you'd sit in the line for hours waiting your turn. It was a horrible rite of passage.
-
HUGE VIBES for the sale of the property!
-
Den Mother Susan Gordon is on THE DONNA REED SHOW this morning - with Myoshi Umecki. Susan is a young girl who fell off a surf board while visiting in Hawaii. Alex and Donna travel there to help her - she's been seeing visions of her dear dead father.
I don't know what's going to happen!
-
Uh oh Harvey Lembeck just showed up as a doctor.
-
Oh, DR elmore3003 - I do hope and pray that the deal happens. Does Macbeth have to sign off on the drop in price, too? Is that possible?
It's a 2/3 vote, so if he does not, Randy and I have it, I hope! Like me, they are sick of property taxes.
-
Yes DR ELMORE. The stars are right.
I hope!
-
Awwww.......Susan can walk!! She thought she saw her Daddy, but it was a Navy Doctor who also was at the hospital after her surgery.
I wonder if this was a back door pilot about the Hawaiian hospital? Lots of stock footage and new sets......
At the end, Donna and Alex were dancing wearing leis and contemplating bringing Mary & Jeff over and becoming beachcombers. I couldn't help but think of the leis in the water at the end of From Here to Eternity.....
-
In the past two nights I've watched Two on a Guillotine, which made me laugh unintentionally, and The Awful Truth, which was a sheer delight, Dixie Belle's number "My Dreams Are Gone with the Wind" being the funniest nightclub number I've think I've ever seen.
Maybe I'm too jaded but the dated silliness and improbabilities of Two On A Guillotine drove me up the wall, from a wealthy heiress inviting a handsome stranger into her spooky mansion to spend the night to her insane and supposedly dead father lurking about the mansion without anyone being aware of it. There was a nice Thelma Ritter role sadly not played by Thelma Ritter,

Wow, I do not remember this episode. I am sure I knew about it at the time and watched it.

A crazy movie. I loved the visuals, including the My Fair Lady interiors. Too bad it wasn't actually a good film. That house is a museum or something now, in Riverside, CA.

DR ELMORE:
If you’ve been feeling a little scattered lately and have been having a hard time focusing, you’ll appreciate the grounding energy that asteroid Vesta provides now that it’s heading direct in practical Virgo. One of the biggest and brightest asteroids, Vesta has a lot of energy devoted to service and commitment, which are two of Virgo’s strengths.
So, with this pairing, comes a renewed dedication to hard work and doing what it takes to put the pieces back together of whatever has broken down in your life. You might feel like you’re on a mission now, that you have a real purpose for the first time in a long time, which can result in some extremely positive and much-needed changes.
-
I had never seen it either DR JANE. It followed the one that had Mary singing "Johnny Angel" at Donna's college.....I remember that one.
-
:)
-
The Awful Truth has been a favorite of mine for decades. I remember forcing Mom and Dad to take me to some museum or film class to watch it. Everyone loved it.
-
Irene Dunne had some fine comedic chops. I also liked her in Joy of Living with a very young Lucille Ball as her irritating kid sister.
-
I'm up, I'm up, maybe seven hours of sleep. I shall now be on my way to the car place, but today is a disaster already and I'm not actually sure what to do about it.
-

She's good with William Powell in Life With Father. I've never seen I Remember Mama, but I've read both the book and the play.

I had never seen it either DR JANE. It followed the one that had Mary singing "Johnny Angel" at Donna's college.....I remember that one.
Was it actually filmed in Hawaii? I think I would have remembered if she had gone there.
-
I remember a different episode with Myoshi Umecki.

Continued healing vibes for DR Vixmom!

Property selling vibes for DR elmore!

Back from an omelet at Art's and getting the motor car back - part has been put on the trunk and smog check is done so I can now renew registration. I'll know more about this day in a little while, I hope, but it's touch and go right now. I did get the galley and cover proofs and they look fine to me - I forwarded them to Grant and Doug so they can give them the once-over. Then I can approve.
-
Non disaster vibes for MR BK.

I'd never heard of this (not surprising), but it's listed in CastAlbums.org (https://castalbums.org/recordings/She-Loves-Me-1963-Danny-Davis-Chorus-Orchestra/14404/).

:)) Pretty much!
-
Myoshi was a nurse in this one. No, I don't think there was any filming in Hawaii.....just some establishing shots. Not even anything at the airport.
The other episode she was in, she played the wife of a new doctor that Donna wanted to teach American ways..... I remember that one, too.
-
And in other news, both Ben Bagley's Cole Porter Revisited (http://www.kritzerland.com/cole_revisited.htm) and Ben Bagley's Cole Porter Revisited, Vol. II (http://www.kritzerland.com/cole_revisited2.htm) have arrived in Tumwater!

Also received in the mail today: the original Barcelona cast recording of Scaramouche (https://www.amazon.es/gp/product/B01MSMF81X/) from Amazon in Spain. It did cost me $32.38 USD, but I decided to take a chance so we'll see what it's like. The booklet has some really cool pictures and what looks like a pretty comprehensive synopsis, but nothing is in English, so I have no idea what any of it is about.
-
This is the (computer translated) "Product description" from Amazon.es:
The prestigious Catalan company Dagoll Dagom returns with its new great show, "Scaramouche" just premiered this past September 23 [2016] at the Victoria Theater in Barcelona. A great musical comedy of adventure, love and revolution with a libretto and direction by Joan Luis Bozzo. The album that we present contains the 30 new songs composed for the show with lyrics by Joan Lluís Bozzo himself as well as by David Pintó and Joan Vives. The musical direction is by Joan Vives and the music and orchestration as in some of the great musicals of the company such as "Mar i Cel", "Flor de Nit" or "Gaudí, the musical of Barcelona" has been in charge of Albert Guinovart.

Once again, DR George to the rescue! :-*
-
FOUR!!!!
-
This day seriously needs to be over.
-
I think I've been on the phone for almost two hours trying to sort through stuff and the new storage facility's ineptitude. I think we've got it figured out now.
-
That's awful, bk. I hope things get settled.
-
I had my first covid shot today. The finally lowered the age to 45 (it was 55). I'm feeling a bit fatigued and headachy. But those were listed as the symptoms for 50% of the people. But I'm otherwise fine. And very happy to have finally become eligible.
-
Settling the storage issues vibes for MR BK.
-
DR JOHN G I also love THE AWFUL TRUTH......I even can watch the remake LET'S DO IT AGAIN with Ray Milland and Jane Wyman - but mostly because of Aldo Ray in the Ralph Bellamy role.
And I love Cecil Cunningham as Irene Dunne's aunt:
"You forgot to touch second."
"Your toast is burning."
"Here's your diploma."
AND the dog!
-

Wonderful :) :) When do you get your second one?
-
Glad you are on the way, DR Jennifer.
-
We watched THE AWFUL TRUTH for the first time tonight and enjoyed it. It has both a cat AND a dog!
-
We iz stalled.
-
Good night, friends.
-
Does anyone else get nauseated when wearing new glasses?
-
On top of that my nose is dented & raw from the nose guards. Monday I will see if I can have them replaced with something more comfortable.
-
I am going to go read as I don't need to wear my glasses and can give my nose some relief ;D
-
I am, quite thankfully, done with this day. The warehouse move is rescheduled for Wednesday and until that's done I won't be able to breath easy, but hoping it's not a crazy ordeal.
-
Got a steak (not a cube steak, a real steak) and that's in the oven broiling away now. After that, I'l hopefully watch something.
-
Got another person for the Kritzerland show.
-
On top of that my nose is dented & raw from the nose guards. Monday I will see if I can have them replaced with something more comfortable.
I'm still getting used to the nose guards on my new glasses. If I put on the sunglasses, they're so comfortable, I forget they're on. I had to go back to the car tonight after I checked in at the theater because I forgot I was wearing the sunglasses.
-
Got another person for the Kritzerland show.
That's good news, though I will miss Kerry.
-
I ushered tonight for a concert that I was not prepared for. It was advertised as Doc Watkins with Strings. It said he was playing with the Classical Music Institute Orchestra. There wasn't a program, but it listed Bernstein, Gershwin and Debussy.
I'm thinking classical music. Nope. It was a swinging, Sinatra-style evening with a jazz combo playing in front of a string orchestra that was probably made up of students. Everyone was excellent, and the music was out of this world. He did songs like Nat King Cole's Frim Fram Sauce, Tom Waits' Picture in a Frame, Nat Adderley, some original tunes and yes, works by Bernstein, Gershwin and Debussy.
-
The shows nowadays are without intermission to prevent socializing. But he played two hours, which is long. But it didn't feel it. And his drummer rocked.
-
Most enjoyable evening.
-
Gratuitous post No. 113!
-
The length of the show, however, meant I wasn't able to get to the supermarket, which closes at 10 p.m. these days.
-
I was going to make a recipe tomorrow I have for Bill Clinton's Lemon Chess Pie, but I need lemons.
-
Life gave me limes instead, so I need to find a good recipe for lime chess pie.
-
When I got home, I finished watching all of the extras on The Wages of Fear. It only took a week.
-
The library only has two other Henri-Georges Clouzot films, Diabolique, which I haven't seen in more than 10 years, and La Verite, which I saw about two years ago. I placed Diabolique on reserve.
-
One more ...
-
Five!
-
Hello, 2 guests!
-
I need to find that recipe.
-
Good night, all.
-

Not nauseated. It takes a couple of days to really get used to them, but I've never had any other problem. :-\

Ditto, and ditto.

I think the upcoming events at the WCPA are also going to be intermissionless.

Most enjoyable evening.
That's pretty cool, John! I really hope that I get to usher next month!
-
I just logged into YouTube and I came across the San Jose Civic Light Opera's 1987 production of Follies (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZWmH6GLyM8Q). It's the whole show...just one camera from the back of the theater, but it looks pretty good. And it's not the 1987 London script. Ben sings "Live, Laugh, Love."
-

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oVVnTUUxSC4
I will have to watch this whole clip and see if a childhood friend of mine is in the ballet. He was a principal dancer with the New York City Ballet. I am not sure if he was still there in 1978, he may have moved on to the Boston Ballet by then, but I don’t think so.
-
No, he was apparently with the Connecticut Ballet Company in ‘78, where he was busy choreographing his first full ballet..... Coppelia!
-

I got mine as soon as they lowered the age limit to under 100.
-
What a day. Fortunately, I watched a brilliant ballet and that made me feel better.

Well, I wanted to see if Ben sang "Live, Laugh, Love" or "Make the Most of Your Music." This was from 1987, which is also when the revised London production happened, so I jumped to the end to see which version of the script that they used.
