Well, you've read the notes, the notes were stuffed and spoke of dance belts, and now it is time for you to post until until the dance belt-wearing cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: BIBLIOPOLE!
-
Good morning, all!
-
It was a restless night. Annabelle seems very happy with her new sleeping location next to me, and I am very happy to find her purring away the night with me while Thatch and Stella come and go with their whims.
-
I had an upsetting dream that seemed to be set in this period and also in an earlier one, somewhere west of the Mississippi. It was about a conflict between a town and a religious group, perhaps Mormons, and I was in the middle pushing a live and let live policy. I woke when the opposition led by a brass band attacked the "church," which looked like an renovated office building.
-
BK, I'm not surprised that Hollywood and the Hays office would suppress any sign of sexuality from male dancers in movie musicals of the 1940s and 50s. A woman';s cleavage was one thing; a man's crotch another.
My best friend in college, David James, was a NYC costumer in the 1970s. He designed several ballets for the Joffrey and Harkness Ballet companies and he told me that most male dancers stuff their dance belts with powder puffs, the quantity depending on their vanity and the choreographer's inclination.
-
I think I will attempt to bring up that carton of litter this morning. The remainder of my day will depend on the success of that project.
-
Good morning, friends.
-
~~~CONTINUED HEALTH VIBES~~~ for Carol, the DF of DR John G.
-
Good morning.
-
A batch of brownie bites just came out of the oven, and now a pan of gluten-free brownies is baking.
-
Yes, it is before 6 a.m. here.
-
The pastor's last day is today, and I want to give him a nice send-off, snack-wise.
-
Nothing like putting unnecessary pressure on one's self, right?
-
Good morning, all.
-
Nothing like putting unnecessary pressure on one's self, right?
Quite admirable, if you ask me.
-
No cherpumple?
No croquembouche?
No kransekake?
I'm sure whatever you serve will be delightful, DR Laura.
-
Turkey Dinner? ;D
Is that what the young folks are calling it, these days?
-
Morning grocery delivery dispached.
I woke up in a panic, thinking I might have slept through my delivery window, but all was fine, other than an unnecessary adrenaline rush.
-
:)
-
Hey, DR Laura - maybe you should try these:
Perfectly Pillowy cinnamon rolls:
https://www.kingarthurbaking.com/recipes/perfectly-pillowy-cinnamon-rolls-recipe?fbclid=IwAR3WnA-tn8Euwh6qAYxiNYLNH0qwo8Vl6s9xxqA5p6X3K-9Cs6dde3icAz4 (https://www.kingarthurbaking.com/recipes/perfectly-pillowy-cinnamon-rolls-recipe?fbclid=IwAR3WnA-tn8Euwh6qAYxiNYLNH0qwo8Vl6s9xxqA5p6X3K-9Cs6dde3icAz4)
They're so perfectly pillowy, in fact, that Mike Lindell secretly uses them instead of his own product.
-
Kitty cleanup is over, and the 40lbs of litter sit just outside my door in the hall.
-
Good morning, all.
-
yes, I managed to bring it up, but I will take a long break before dragging it into the apartment and getting it into the bathroom.
-
I was hoping someone would help you with that.
-
I don't know the rules of etiquette re having a super in NYC, but I'm guessing that having help with a heavy package isn't the kind of thing you can normally ask them for? I can't help but think of Val, and would he not have brought that thing right up to you days ago?
-
Crazy me, I would think delivering it to your door would be the responsibility of the delivery driver. But then I live in the suburbs.
-
Crazy me, I would think delivering it to your door would be the responsibility of the delivery driver. But then I live in the suburbs.
No, that doesn't happen at any apartment or condo I've lived in, anywhere. Everything gets dropped at the central mail place for the building.
-
the 40lbs of litter sit just outside my door in the hall.
Something else for the neighbor to complain about!
-
Moving on...
[a Sondheim reference]
-
TWO!!
-
:)
-
The 'burbs.
-
The Dance Belt. I wore one when I was in several dance numbers here and there - especially when I had to wear JAZZ PANTS.
Of course I never put anything else in there that wasn't supposed to be..... I still have them - I have a flesh colored one and a black one.....
I still wear them from time to time onstage.....especially if I am supposed to be running around in my drawers all day - I wear one under my boxers.
-
I realize I am living a fantasy life. At least as far as mail and package delivery go.
-
My kids both get package deliveries to their doors. There are no stairs involved, though. The mail they get at a central mailbox.
-
I would also say that where ever anything is when you put on the dance belt - there it will stay until you take the dance belt off.
-
Good morning one and all! There's a fun new Broadway Radio Show to enjoy. David Levy is back with a show of Rodgers & Hammerstein cover versions. We hear from every one of their musicals and you've never heard R&H like this. Check it out!!!
-
Good morning!
-
Yes, DR JohnG, April 24th should be a holiday!
-
I had not heard the term regietheater before today, but I have certainly heard folks deplore it.
Regietheater (German for director's theater) is the modern practice of allowing a director freedom in devising the way a given opera (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opera) or play (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Play_(theatre)) is staged so that the creator's original, specific intentions or stage directions (where supplied) can be changed, together with major elements of geographical location, chronological situation, casting, and plot. Typically such changes may be made to point a particular political point or modern parallels which may be remote from traditional interpretations.
-
Christa Ludwig died yesterday. Farewll, and rest in peace.
-
I’m finally getting up.
-
When the elevator was out for six weeks while they installed a new one, Val carried a carton of litter up three flights for me. I do miss him.
-
The Man with the Bike just might!
AKA Eurotrash.
Akhal-teke, a horse breed over 3,000 years old. As if woven from silk and pearls, the breed comes from Turkmenistan, where it is a national symbol. It is also called the "golden" horse due to its appearance. There are only six to seven thousand left in the world.
-
DR John I hope Carol is ok today.
-
A batch of brownie bites just came out of the oven, and now a pan of gluten-free brownies is baking.
Yum.
-
The pastor's last day is today, and I want to give him a nice send-off, snack-wise.
May he be happy in his new adventure, and may you be very pleased with the new pastor.
-
Crazy me, I would think delivering it to your door would be the responsibility of the delivery driver. But then I live in the suburbs.
I agree. Here our packages are almost always delivered at our door. Once in awhile they are left at the mailbox. Of course if they sit there more than a day someone checks on the person the package is for and takes care of making sure it is delivered.
-
My kids both get package deliveries to their doors. There are no stairs involved, though. The mail they get at a central mailbox.
Craig lives in a big complex of building and there is a delivery center. Often the packages are delivered at the door, or the wrong door as when Craig noticed a familiar looking package at a neighbor's door and checked to see if it was for him. Sure enough it was :)
-
The horse is exquisite.
Finally catching up to the rest of Les Miserables. Watched the second movie and will pick up the third part later tonight.
Just wonderful storytelling, largely because they stick closely to the original novel.
-
Glad you enjoyed the party yesterday, DR John G. Sounds fun.
-
Well said, DR vixmom.
-
Moving on.
-
to THREE!!!
-
Back from a good walk. Thinking about lunch.
-
I guess that could have been 2 posts.
-
I'm up, I'm up - six hours of sleep.
Yup. Of all the people who won't be vaccinated I have the most difficulty understanding this group of people.
Our waitress the other night never gets sick so she doesn't need it.
I just read an article regarding the increase of covid cases in Michigan. A 63 year old man who had been in my old local hospital, thinking he was going to die, said " My biggest regret is I didn’t get vaccinated. This is a life-changer for me.”
He survived but his brother in another hospital did die :(
Ted Nugent said something similar.
I have never worn a dance belt, nor do I think I know anyone who has.
Besides, I don't think that they would be made in my size. ::)
-
Christa Ludwig died yesterday. Farewll, and rest in peace.
Oh, no. :( I really only know of her work from Bernstein's conducting of Candide, but I really enjoyed her performance in that.
Did the Zoom thing. Decided to do the Stanley's chopped salad again, since it was so good and keto friendly. About to go pick it up and save eight bucks in fees and tip.
-
I've caught up with all of the posts today (so far), and now I need to get ready for my Zoom online union meeting. I don't remember what is supposed to be on the agenda, but I'll find out soon enough.
Have a good rest of the day, all!
-
Our waitress the other night never gets sick so she doesn't need it.
Ted Nugent said something similar.
I hope it works out better for our waitress as she does a lot of animal rescue work.
-
That was a delightful tail-wagging video!
-
Congrats to MR BK on saving $8.
-
I remember a time when watching the yearly Oscarcast was a HUGE deal here at haineshisway.com. In fact, Oscarcasts remain the single biggest posting days we've ever had.
-
Let's be sure to have reports for this year's. That said, I haven't had a way to watch them in four years, but if I'm reading the e-mail I got from ABC, for the first time in forever, they'll be viewable on the ABC site (no cost) and on YouTube even. Maybe I'm not reading it right but that's what it seems like.
-
Salad was excellent again.
-
So, our pastor has retired. I read a children's story about good-byes and new opportunities.
-
Refreshments were a success. Everyone wanted a brownie bite.
-
Leonard missed me today. He is all over me.
-
You gave him a sweet send-off. I am sure he appreciated it.
-
After doing a bunch of nothing yesterday, I feel all tired today. Had a nap. But I could have another.
-
Jane, I think you recommended The Worst Hard Time. It's very powerful.
-
Well, this is a red-letter day. Not only is it the much postponed Oscar Night from some train station, but, also, the first time that BK has devoted a very looooong paragraph to VW's in DB's.
It actually sounded like a conversation that George and I might have had, but not so this time.
-
Page 4, at 4:20 pm on the West Coast! A good sign.
-
No Oscars for me.
-
Jane, I think you recommended The Worst Hard Time. It's very powerful.
I think so. I hope that also means you are glad to be reading it.
;D It was very entertaining.
Apparently, despite the click-bait e-mail, when you click "Go" to watch, it asks for your sign-in info for your TV provider. Figures. I hope this tanks so bad. But let's hear the winners and how it went.
-
Jane, I think you recommended The Worst Hard Time. It's very powerful.
I think so. I hope that also means you are glad to be reading it.
Yes, and it manages to be entertaining while covering some devastating topics. It is interesting, as the author points out in his introduction, but stories of the Dust Bowl generally focus on the folks who left for California, whether it's The Grapes of Wrath or the more recent Four Winds. But this is strictly about the ones who stayed. I don't know who had it worse.
-
:)
LOL!
-
Gratuitous post No. 103!
-
So, I'm hoping this 5-hour version of Les Miz wins the Oscar for best foreign language film of 1934.
:)
-
The revolutions scenes were just wonderful, unfocused except for a sense of the violence involved. I would hate to think it, but I think some of the horses might have been injured in the filming. They were that naturalistic.
I had never read anything like it. I think the title of the book is perfect. Non-fiction can be boring, I could barely put this book down.
-
So, the Oscars have started.
And The Father has won an award for screenplay. So, did Promising young Woman, which signals, at least IMO, a win for Carey Mulligan later.
-
I have seen few of the movies nominated.
-
I don't have a strong feeling regarding any of the nominations.
-
Apparently, there is no limit to acceptance speeches tonight. I hope they finish before GOOD MORNING AMERICA starts tomorrow.
I did like some of the fashion shots I saw. Regina King looked lovely, Amanda Seyfried was a red hot knockout and Andra Day was all glam in gold. But Colman Domingo stole it from the ladies. His bright pink suit looked perfect on him.
-
Daniel Kaluuya won Best Supporting Actor for JUDAS AND THE BLACK MESSIAH.
-
ANOTHER ROUND won Best Foeign Film for Poland.
-
Best Director went to Chloe Zhao for NOMADLAND (Big surprise).
Best Director went to Chloe Zhao for NOMADLAND (Big surprise).
.
I typed that post before they announced it 😜
-
Costume and Make-up both went to MA RAINEY’S BLACK BOTTOM
-
Ann Roth won for her Ma Rainey costumes. Apparently, she's nearing 90. Good for her.
-
Best Sound went to SOUND OF METAL
-
Best Live Action Short went to TWO DISTANT STRANGERS
-
The Nomadland Best Director is so predictable. It's not about what's best anymore. It's about race now and the rest be damned. Sorry, her film was the least well directed film of the year - all sun going down shots and meandering pace. The Father was actually the best-directed film of the year and, for me, that was followed by News of the World, which the stupid Academy voters wouldn't even watch.
-
From what I've read it's a VERY boring show, and if you go on Facebook, they RAVE about Union Station, to which I say a big WHO CARES?
-
I wish there were a way for them to prove who watched all the nominated films or even pre-nomination films. I think people voted blind based on who they like, what would be woke enough - it's a joke.
-
Keep the winners coming, please.
-
Best Animated Short Film goes to IF ANYTHING HAPPENS, I LOVE YOU.
-
It is shocking they wouldn't watch it. Usually well made films from best sellers are popular.
Another pre-typed post.
-
Marlee Matlin and Brad Pitt. What an unusual combination.
-
From what I've read it's a VERY boring show, and if you go on Facebook, they RAVE about Union Station, to which I say a big WHO CARES?
The building is pretty and it is something different during covid.
-
Best Animated Feature Film goes to SOUL
Another pre-typed post.
Truly. I did enjoy the movie. But was it a best anything? Hardly.
-
Oh they aren’t presenting together.
-
It should be easy to predict most of it - hotbed topic? Win. Person of color? Win. Not who's best. Just who happens to fit the current woke bill.
-
Documentary Short Subject goes to COLETTE.
-
Is it REALLY taking this long between awards??? What are they doing, making sanctimonious speeches?
-
I think most of Puyallup must be on fire. The sirens have been going off for an hour or more.
-
After the death of Jean Valjean, I needed something brighter. So, Destry Rides Again is on. Haven't seen this one in ages. Love Dietrich and Stewart both in it.
-
Documentary Feature goes to MY OCTOPUS TEACHER
-
I think most of Puyallup must be on fire. The sirens have been going off for an hour or more.
Oh, no!
-
I pre-wrote that one, too; but I chickened out.
-
I'm home. After my Zoom union meeting, my sister asked if I would come over and help move and put together a couple of chairs that she recently bought. Her boyfriend also came over and we put them together (fairly simple for both of them) and put them where they needed to be put.
-
Is it REALLY taking this long between awards??? What are they doing, making sanctimonious speeches?
YES, with no limits.
-
Next up: Best Supporting Actress
-
But first! A lot of commercials.
-
Hi, Tom and John and BK.
-
I think the Minari woman should win.
-
But Colman Domingo stole it from the ladies. His bright pink suit looked perfect on him.
It did, indeed.
-
Best Visual Effects goes to TENET
-
I really think the kid in News of the World should win but, she wasn't nominated because the ASSES in the Academy would not watch it.
-
PAGE SIX COLMAN DOMINGO IN PINK DANCE!!
:D
-
TENET - was it actually released somewhere other than streaming?
-
So, who won supporting actress?
-
If I'm to have a snack I should probably go get it at Gelson's. I don't think the salad is enough for food. Need a little something else.
-
Best Supporting Actress goes to Yuh Jung Youn
-
So, who won supporting actress?
They changed the order.
-
The revolutions scenes were just wonderful, unfocused except for a sense of the violence involved. I would hate to think it, but I think some of the horses might have been injured in the filming. They were that naturalistic.
I don't think that movies back then had the animal's welfare in mind, or safeguards to insure that they didn't get injured. :-\
-
She was hysterical.
-
Apparently, there is no limit to acceptance speeches tonight. I hope they finish before GOOD MORNING AMERICA starts tomorrow.
:))
-
She was hysterical.
I agree!!
-
Ann Roth won for her Ma Rainey costumes. Apparently, she's nearing 90. Good for her.
That's wonderful!
-
Brad Pitt was very sweet with her.
-
After I left my sister's I drove through McDonald's because I hadn't really had anything to eat and I had one of their buy-one-get-one-free survey coupons, so I ordered a Filet-O-Fish (with extra tartar sauce) and a Quarter Pounder With Cheese (plus a little mayo added). Well, I paid and the payment window, and when I got to the pick-up window, the woman said, "You had the diet Coke and Quarter Pounder?" I said yes, so she handed me the bag and the drink, and then I said, "And the Filet-O-Fish?" She looked surprised and then went back inside and realized that the guy behind me had just ordered a diet Coke and a Quarter Pounder only, and she had actually given me his order! She then got MY bag with my Quarter Pounder AND Filet-O-Fish and said that I could keep the first Quarter Pounder that she gave me! So, I came home and ate the Filet-O-Fish, and then combined the two Quarter Pounders into one double Quarter Pounder and ate it...but much too soonly after eating the Filet-O-Fish! :o I was planning on having the Quarter Pounder for dinner later, but I didn't. So now, I'm too full! :P
-
It was all very good, though!
-
Didn't ChasSmith recently get an extra order, too?
-
Documentary Feature goes to MY OCTOPUS TEACHER
I realized tonight that have never typed octopus before, and I had no idea how to spell it.
-
Don't you hate it when that happens??
-
Well, I got supporting actress. Sadly, I think if this goes the way it's seeming to go, best actor will not go to the best actor, it will go to the person of color who also died and who also is in an ensemble film and probably should be up for supporting. At least the BAFTAS got Hopkins right because - they care about what's actually best and they ALL watched the films, unlike the lazy morons here. I can't tell you how many Academy members said "I don't want to watch The Father, it's too emotional for me." Well, then get out of the Academy, chums.
-
Didn't ChasSmith recently get an extra order, too?
From Popeye's, I think.
-
Best Production Design goes to MANK
-
Good night, friends.
As well as Cinematography.
Best Cinematography goes to MANK
Destry is more wonderful than I remember.
Well, that's a joke, IMO. Much better photographed movies .
I gotta tell you.
Shouldn't we be on page fifty-three already?
Can't decide on snack.
I am afraid that you are probably correct. The pre-show was basically calling it a coronation.
-
Best Film Editing goes to SOUND OF METAL
-
Can there be a coronation if the king is already dead?
-
Humanitarian Award (#2) goes to Tyler Perry
-
Soul gets best score.
-
The first Humanitarian Oscar (tonight) went to the Motion Picture and Television Fund.
-
Best Score goes to SOUL
-
John Baptiste from The Stephen Colbert Show
-
I don't know if they agreed to only have Jon Batiste speak, but if not, he didn't let the other guys speak.
-
Film editing should have gone to either The Father, which is the most complexly edited film of the year or News of the World.
-
Best Song goes to JUDAS AND THE BLACK MESSIAH, “Fight for You.”
-
Now we are going to play a game! Oh please.
-
???
Best Song goes to JUDAS AND THE BLACK MESSIAH, “Fight for You.”
Does that mean Dianne Warren lost AGAIN?
Nomadland.
-
I thought all the theaters were closed last year. I didn't even know any movies premiered last year.
I think there were limited releases and online releases.
-
Best Picture(?) goes to NOMADLAND
-
Sorry. You go ahead, George.
-
Well, Destry was just as wonderful as I remembered. I'll have to listen to Harold Rome's score this week.
-
So, they gave out Best Picture before actor or actress?
-
seems odd.
-
Frances McDormand won Best Actress.
-
Anthony Hopkins won Best Actor!
-
PAGE EIGHT DANCE!!
-
And then they just ended. Very underwhelming.
Hopkins won??? Well, hoo and ray for that! But McDormand did not deserve the win at ALL. She just stares throughout the entire movie. Ten years from now when we're free of all this woke crap, people will look at Nomadland and wonder how they could have ever given it this award. What a joke.
-
Hopkins' win was a welcome surprise.
-
Watched two of the Destry extras. I'll pick it up again tomorrow.
-
Good night, all.
-
In the Oscars: After Dark show that's on now, they showed people putting the names on the trophies just before they went to commercial. Get your name plate while you wait!
-
Good night, John.
-
I think most of Puyallup must be on fire. The sirens have been going off for an hour or more.
:o
-
'night
-
I just put my fourth load of laundry into the dryer.
-
I probably haven't done this much laundry in one day in quite a while.
-
Gratuitous
Room Page 222! ;D
-
My fourth load of laundry is now finished and folded.
-
Just had to share. :)
-
I'm now actually doing a little work for tomorrow.
-
Can we not get to page nine?
-
Have we not tired of page eight?
-
Is page eight not a thing of the past?
-
It's been a long day's journey into page nine.
-
Page nine is elusively elusive.
-
Is someone messing with my already messed mind?
-
Am I being gaslit here?
-
Has page nine gone the way of the dodo bird?
-
Well, it's not gonna be up to me.
-
I also have to go into work about an hour earlier than usual because we have to test a new report. Hopefully, it'll actually work.
-
I'm now watching an episode of Antiques Roadshow that I recorded last year.
-
I haven't seen this episode.
-
I actually have been recording all the episodes, new and repeats, and I keep track of which episodes I've watched in a note app on my phone.
-
And now since we're so close...
