Well, you've read the notes, the notes fell, and now it is time for you to post until the fallen cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: REGNANT!
-
Topic of the Day: I first joined MySpace because I was doing my first show with Theater Artists Olympia and they had their own page and sent cast information through there. Then, they also migrated to Facebook, and so did I. I don't post too much on FB, just "like" things that friends have posted. And I chat with a few friends on Messenger. That's pretty much it anymore.
-
I ordered a chicken sandwich from an all-night jernt - don't think a turkey sandwich is enough food for an entire day and I've been wanting to try this jernt.
-
Good morning, all!

My hurricane news is brief. Before I went to bed, the rain was very heavy around 8:00, but when I woke around midnight, there was no sound of anything turbulent occurring outside my window. I think New Jersey was much harder hit.
I wonder how it went in Deer Park, DR vixmom?
-
Speaking of our DR vixmom, I loved her new job reports.
-
I'm not sure what's on my agenda today. The worktable cleanup continues, and I have to prepare a package to send to Miami University Library of all the things I had intended to send in July's last carton shipment.
-
I'm trying to tie up as many loose ends as I can before my unemployment runs out on Sept. 5. I must admit the thought terrifies me since I see absolutely no employment looming for some time yet, and I have no idea what further bills may be looming. This morning I got a $50 co-pay on those hip and knee x-rays, and I have no idea how high the August utilities bill will be. July's was $236.00 because of the AC.
-
Good morning, all.
-
What an INSANE day, evening, and night of rainstorms.
So in less than two weeks, we've had some damage from two consecutive hurricanes -- a weak one that was a direct hit from the Atlantic, the other landing in Louisiana and traveling through many states to get here and still managing to kick the region's ASS.
And in that same amount of time, there have been two (count 'em) tornado watches/warnings in the area. I think there was some actual tornado damage in New Jersey last night, maybe up here, too.
Vixmom, any problems in your 'hood?
Isn't climate change fun?

We had a 13- or 14-second power outage here this morning.
I was awakened from a dream (which hasn't yet come back to me) by the sound of our generator starting to crank up. I saw my clock radio blinking and my phone said 5:29 am -- so the storm had probably just cleared our area not long before. But the generator didn't start, it just went quiet after cranking up. I sat up in a panic wondering if something was wrong with it. A few moments later I realized that even though the clock radio display was blinking, we did have power. I mean, without power it wouldn't be doing anything at all, and there was still a lamp on. So I got up anyway to have a look around.
What happens when there's an outage is that the generator detects it and waits for ten seconds. That's so momentary blips don't cause it to come on. Then it starts itself up. This time, the power came back just after that, so it didn't fire up all the way, and that was a tight bit of timing.
-
Good morning, friends.
-
~~~WEATHER VIBES~~~ to all DRs as needs 'em!!!!!
-
I have a couple of friends in the Bronx and in Brooklyn who have never had water issues when it comes to storms.
As of early this morning, the one in the Bronx has 18 inches of water in her basement, and has no idea what to do. The one in Brooklyn knew there was a little coming in last night, and has yet to get up the courage to go down and look this morning.
-
I hope the VIXES' basement is okay!
We had a similar one two days ago, around 8:00pm.
Happy Birthday to former DR Ron Pulliam.
-
I want to see a movie titled The Pride and the Passion and Dementia.
-
Nice posts from DR VIXMOM last night about her new job - but not the commute.
-
Knee approval vibes for DR ELMORE.
-
I feel exactly the same way about Facebook as MR BK does.
I post there a few times a day and read my messages. But there are people whose posts I suddenly NEVER see....
I use Facebook mostly as a communication tool when I'm doing a show....I create a private group and all cast/staff/crew members are invited to join. Of course there is always one Luddite who "doesn't do Facebook".....so I have the email them anyway.
-
Both my computer and Annabelle are acting up this morning.
-
Now I have to re-do the sound cues for the play. The director has decided to use REAL firecrackers....so I'll also have to make a sign for the lobby telling the patrons that....so nobody is THAT surprised when it happens.
Although I know it's coming and I still jump!
-
Good morning, all.
-
I am glad I am off Facebook for the most part.
-
Happy birthday, Ron Pulliam.
-
I do not know what the day holds in store.
I do know we’re going to the symphony this weekend and that Carpathia Jenkins is singing with them.
-
Let’s move on…
-
Two!
I do know we’re going to the symphony this weekend and that Carpathia Jenkins is singing with them.
I love her! Encores! should have cast her and not LaChanze in the Ethel Waters role in their Cabin in the Sky.
I was just looking over the Naughty Marietta vocal score, and two numbers that were on the old Smithsonian release from 1981, No. 15 "Intermezzo" and 16 "New Orleans Jeunesse Dorée," that are omitted from Harbinger's Complete" CD release.
From TCB:
Actually, my friend, the Titanic struck the iceberg on April 14, 1912, but sank on the morning of April 15, 1912. Which is why April 15 commemorates the day we now pay our taxes. That way we can all experience that sinking feeling!
:))
-
I forgot to thank DR TCB for correcting my (mis)information. The "On This Day" website that I used stands corrected.
-
To former DR Ron,
I'm up, I'm up - probably six hours of sleep.
-
Vibes of not too much water to those in the path.
-
I can't remember the last time Mr. Pulliam was with us.
-
I wish the noon o'clock lunch were later, but alas...
-
He was on Facebook for a little while -- way back when he'd just moved to the Carolinas -- but I haven't seen him on there in a long time now.
Ask BK (on the wrong day):
What was the occasion of that 1991 presentation of "She's Moving In", and who was at the piano? Apologies if I missed this information in the booklet. I did look for it, maybe not thoroughly enough. Anyway, that was most enjoyable, and the playing was excellent.
-
Ask BK: (also on the wrong day)
What is the proper display ratio for The Court Jester in Vistavision? The version from Amazon Prime fills the whole TV screen. That can't be right, can it?
Any other DR that knows about these things is welcome to chime in.
-
Good afternoon!
-
Congrats, DR George, for paying off your mortgage!
-
My neighbor Judy says that those of us on Pandemic Unemployment Assistance will get six more weeks pf NY State unemployment, minus the Federal Government aid. According to the email I just received from the NY State Dept. of Labor, she's wrong. I need to call my state representative and find out what's going on.
~~~WEATHER VIBES~~~ to all DRs as needs 'em!!!!!
~~~Super Ditto!!~~~
Congrats, DR George, for paying off your mortgage!
Thanks, Kevin!
I waa wondering about that. I saw what was supposed to be the track list of the original vinyl album, and that had two extra tracks. If that was correct, then they did record them.
They were indeed on the LP set. I once owned it. Why did Harbinger drop them is the question, especially when they bragged about this being the firsr complete Herbert operetta recording in their initial ads for the CD.
-
What's the problem? They're stackable!
The recording of She's Moving In is from my club act at the Gardenia - it was the first time the song was ever performed. Rich Ruttenberg is on the piano.
While VistaVision could be shown anywhere from 1.33 to 2.1, no one ever projected it at 1.33, the Academy ratio. The recommended ratio for VistaVision was and is 1.85, so yes, it should fill your widescreen TV.
Back from a fun lunch with Kay Cole - Vitello's. Had the chicken Caesar wrap and a few fries.
-
Now I'm home and I've got the rest of the day and evening to myself.
Spent forty minutes on the phone with Apple earlier, because I got a pop-up thing that said my Airport/Time Machine had its name changed or some such thing and that it had no back-ups at all and would have to do a new one from scratch and to make sure no one had somehow gotten into the system and was trying to glom onto it. So, that was a worry and I didn't do the back-up. I ultimately got a Time Machine expert on the phone and she was great - we did a Malware Bytes scan of the computer and it told us everything was safe and sound, so that was good. She had me check a lot of other things, too, just for safety's sake. She ascertained that the device is ten years old and said it could have just been a glitch in the mechanics. On my computer, everything looked right - it was named properly, there was only one device listed, etc. So, she felt safe in doing the new back-up, which it's been doing ever since. I suspect it won't finish that until either late tonight or morning, as that's over 500 gigs o' stuff to do. I'm going to buy a new 3 terabyte back-up drive and back-up the entire computer to that, too, just to be safe.
-
I also talked to her about finally doing the update to the operating system - I'm two behind with Mojave. I told her I hadn't done it because of iTunes, but she told me there's no problem at all. It's just not called iTunes anymore - it's music-only and once you open it you see your library exactly as you saw it in iTunes. She, in fact, was screen sharing with me so she had me open iTunes then she opened her music app and said it literally looked exactly the same, the ONLY difference being there were no Video, Podcast, stuff on the left sidebar, as those now have their own apps. So, I feel safe doing it. She did say there's another new operating system coming later in the year, so maybe I'll wait, but I'm thinking I might just get to the most current one now.
-
Thank you for answering my question, bk!
-
Glad there don't seem to be any hidden problems with your computer.
-
Hello, everyone.
-
Happy Birthday to DR Ron!
Please return to HHW!
-
MEGA congrats to DR George on paying off his mortgage!
I know you want to save for your next car, but IF you need a new (to you) car before then your car payment would be quite a bit less than your mortgage payment, yes?
Vibes to DR John G's sister Linda and her husband, Mike.
There have been some articles in the alternative press about how to treat Covid naturopathically. The ones I've seen are in the online magazine Vitality, which is based in Canada. The recommendations often include vitamin D3, vitamin C, quercetin, astragalus, vitamin A. There are quite a few anti-viral herbs, actually. Many people are low in Vitamin D and benefit from supplementation in general. This approach can be used for prevention as well as treatment of an existing condition.
I hope Linda and Mike find an approach they feel comfortable with and meet with success!
-
I saw my osteopath yesterday. I had scheduled an appointment -- a much-needed appointment -- for late July, knowing he'd be going on vacation in August, but one of the nurses died and Cedars cancelled ALL appointments at the very last minute. (I find this a strange reaction.) It was six weeks until he had another opening, which was yesterday. Needless to say, we had a LOT to talk about and talked a mile a minute. Even so it took almost an hour for what was scheduled as a 20-minute appointment. Twenty minutes is never enough. I'm a senior with multiple chronic conditions and the vitals-taking from the nurse takes 7.5 minutes. I hope his next patient wasn't waiting long!
-
Good news from Vixmom! I hope all continues to go well and you find good alternate routes.
TTFN.
We have been doing D & C, and getting enough A from food. Still, if I were unvaccinated and got covid I would find out if I qualified for monoclonal antibody therapy before it was too late to receive it.
I am sorry you had to wait so long for your appointment.
Keith's cousin had plans to fly up and visit us on Tuesday. She and her boyfriend were then going to drive along the Oregon coast.
-
I knew covid was bad in the places we had planned to visit in Oregon, and the reason we have not rescheduled our trip now that we have a car.
-
She informed us it is also bad in Bandon where they are planned to spend the most time.
-
Yes, today she cancelled.
-
We did have a nice long phone call.
-
I am sorry, DR Jane. But I think it is probably for the best at the moment.
Hello, 0 Guests!
Gratuitous Post #77!
-
Good night, friends.
-
I am sorry, DR Jane. But I think it is probably for the best at the moment.
We agreed with her decision and were half expecting it. The big surprise was how bad it is in Bandon.
-
DR John I am sorry about Texas :'(
'night
Watched a motion picture that tied into today's notes, did a quick Gelson's run and got some creamy tomato soup from the soup bar, and a few other little items, now listening to music.
-
Soup was good.
-
Good was soup.
-
And may I just say - page THREE???
-
Most unseemly.
-
I gotta tell you.
-
Whassup?
-
Where the HELL is page four?
-
Where the HELL is page five?
-
Just had some good news. I like good news and who wouldn't?
-
In addition to the soup, I bought some gefilte fish so I can feel like a Jew next week for the New Year. The best part is that one piece of it is only fifty calories - I had two and they were excellent and filling.
-
Composer Mikis Theodorakis has died at age 96.
-
Very fine composer.
-
Listening to music. The problem with this endless new back-up of the entire computer is that it slows everything down. I suspect it will be done by midnight.
-
Just had some good news. I like good news and who wouldn't?
Nice.
-
Had dinner tonight at a place that specializes in farm to table food, which is good because it’s name is Farm to Table. Open only on Thursdays.
-
Had a series of wonderful dishes, from pan-roasted chicken to lamb meatballs.
-
My favorite was a tomato tart with perfect tomatoes and cheese in a tart shell. That could have been my meal.
-
For dessert, the staff was raving about the cherry sorbet and peach ice cream, which were very good.
-
But they couldn’t hold a candle to a dark chocolate tart with a filling of baked apples. It sounded iffy to me, but it was actually brilliant. The apples stole the show.
-
This all took place in the childhood home of Henry Wallace, an agricultural giant who served as one of FDR’s vice presidents. It’s been beautifully maintained, filled with antiques, many of which were actually owned by the Wallace family.
-
Afterwards, we went out for drnks at a trendy spot. The drinks were good and the crowd was diverse.
-
But it all made me feel old.
-
I guess not going to bars during the pandemic has had an effect on me.
-
Earlier in the day we went to the Des Moines Art Center, which had some beautiful works, including a large number of women artists.
-
There was a Grant Wood painting of Herbert Hoover’s home that I really liked.
-
Here’s a link:
-
Sadly the colors don’t pop the way they did in the gallery.
-
The work was mostly modern, and I was taken by a Basquiat. But they did have a Rodin sculpture and a Goya that were worth seeing up close.
-
Then we went shopping and I tasted Iowa wine for the first time.
-
It was not a pleasant experience.
-
Bill said the red reminded him of sauerkraut.
-
Had to have a local microbrew to wash my mouth out.
-
We also visited an Asian supermarket, which sold boneless duck feet.
-
I would have bought some, but I guess I left thst recipe back in San Antonio.
-
How long is this page?
-
Underpants!
-
Cranberries!
-
Five!
-
What is this page five malarkey?
-
I’m going to bed.
-
Good night, all.
-
MEGA congrats to DR George on paying off his mortgage!
Thanks, Jeanne!
-
Most likely, a car payment would be less than my mortgage, but my thinking is, if I'm used to paying this much per month, why not pay that same amount regardless of the actual car payment amount and pay it off earlier...especially if I get a really good deal through Costco, like I did with this car?? :)
-
Just had some good news. I like good news and who wouldn't?
Congrars, BK!
That's really cool, John.
:o
Is it supposed to be like that??
-
Good night, all.
Good night, John.
Started reading James Lapine's book about Sunday in the Park with George. It's not much actual writing, per se, but, at least so far, mostly interviews.
He does comment about things throughout the book. That's mostly what he writes.
What is this good news you speak of?
They grow lamb meatballs? I wish I could grow me a pair.
A chocolate tart filled with baked apples? I’ll pass. Of course, i don’t like apple pie or apple tarts etc. etc. etc.
-
There was a Grant Wood painting of Herbert Hoover’s home that I really liked.
Was Herbert Hoover standing in front of the house with a pitchfork?
-
I don’t understand the thinking of these people. They go on television refusing to be vaccinated because it hasn’t been tested or they don’t trust the government. But they will inject themselves with horse hemmoroid medicine? Is their logic in there somewhere??
Or, they take so many different treatments, many that are even more experimental, that us regular folks can't get and that probably cost a lot of money, when they could just get the now-approved vaccine for free!! :o
-
Maybe that is the problem. Maybe we need to make the vaccine really expensive? Then everybody will want the shots.
Why not? What do we care? We already had our vaccines.
Because there are probably still people who might be convinced to...who am I kidding?? You're right! Just as long as the booster shots for people who want to get them are still free.
