Well, you've read the notes, the notes were an undeniable fact, and now it is time for you to post until the undeniable cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: VESPERTINE!
-
Topic of the Day: First, I'd love to fly to California and see one the of the Kritzerland shows live! I'd also visit my two aunts that live in the area...one's in Glendora and I'm not sure where the other one lives, but they're not too far from each other. Then, I'd love to go back to NYC. Not only to see shows on Broadway (and off-Broadway, and maybe even off-off-Broadway), but also to visit the east coast HHW contingent! ;D
-
This afternoon, the family is getting together at my mom's house. I'm sure we'll play Phase 10 again. If there's time after that, I might go to my sister's to help take down the cloth covering the gazebo in her back yard. It's all fairly lightweight, but it's tall, so they need help with that. But whether I do that or not, I have to be downtown at the Washington Center for the Performing Arts to work concessions for the WILCO | ODE TO JOY TOUR (https://www.washingtoncenter.org/event/wilco/).

Good morning, all!

A couple of weeks ago I posted about laste night noises in the street that I thought might be the garbage neb or a crew putting up scaffolding. Well, it happened again last night. I was awakened from a sound sleep ast 12:41 by a huge crash and a flash of light thjat made me think the TV had been hit by lightning. This was followed by sounds of shouting, grinding gears anda very ;pid noise of a huge engine., I got out of bed, checked the clock, and went to the window to see what was going on.
-
I could see nothing beyond very bright lights, but I sure heard plenty. A frightened Stella stayed by my side, but Annabelle and Thatch had vanished. I called them but got no response. I went back to bed. Two hours later I woke for a bathroom break, and there was no sign of A or T. I figured they were hiding from the earlier noise and went back to bed. Around 4:00 trhey showed up. Annabelle vrawled under the blankets and settled by my knees. Thatch pay on top of the blankets next to me. 5:30 came too early.
-
This morning I must make a trip to the 68th Street 10023 post office. I can't go to my local one because it has stairs. I need to send a direct deposit form to the Philly Pops and post my vote to the NY Board of Elections.
-
Good morning, friends.

Wow! This article about a new CD release of Judy Garland's famous Carnegie Hall concert says that commercial releases have always been sharp, and that the new release has been remastered and re-pitched (lower).

Good morning, all.
-
I have always wanted a repitched Judy Garland.
-
DR JEANNE that was a terrible story yesterday. I would suggest that you continue to try Consumer Cellular - my brother in law has it and he is most pleased and is saving quite a bit of money.
-
Last night I was tired from the running around all day, getting the two jabs, and partying it up at the cemetery. Came home, ate a comfort food pot pie, and called it an early night. I think I was zonked out by 10 pm.
Then, starting at 12:30 am, I began waking up almost every hour, thinking it must be almost morning... but except for one bathroom break at 2:30 am, I just rolled over (gingerly, very gingerly, on my two shot-up arms) and got right back to sleep. It was a good kind of exhaustion, and the sleep totaled about eight hours -- which is all too rare for me.

Saturday!
DR ELMORE obviously it is an alien invasion!

DR singdaw are you doing your vocal exercises?

My uncle did come home yesterday, but he is going to have home nursing care - NOT HOSPICE - for awhile.

Saturday!
DR ELMORE obviously it is an alien invasion!
Obviously.
I mean, it's so simple.
And the fact that no one else sees and hears this nocturnal activity is proof that THEY'RE COMING FOR YOU.
-
So I feel fine today -- as well as that can be determined on first arising -- but I shall very much enjoy taking it easy.
I'm thinking that watching a few good horror movies -- accompanied by more comfort foods, of course -- will be just the ticket.
-
More coffee!
-
Good morning, all.
-
Slept well. No crashes here.
-
I need to get moving.

TOD:
Buenos Aires for some tango lessons
Australia
Thailand
Scandinavia
Turkey after the dictator’s gone
Places in the US I haven’t seen, like Oregon and Missouri
-
I am home from the post office. I had one very good taxi criver and one so-so. I used the self-service atomatede kiosk, but it told e the street address on the priority mail for the Philly Pops offices was not a good address! It did accept the city and zop code, so I hope it gets there. I will keep my eye on the tracking number.

From George:
Our library selectors regularly get advanced reader's copies from publishers...with no obligation to do anything with them.
Nice.
-
From George"
The selectors rarely, if ever, read pre-pub books themselves when they're deciding on whether to purchase or not. They read literary reviews (Kirkus, Publisher's Weekly, Library Journal, etc.) because those are much, Much, MUCH (that's three MUCHES) shorter than reading the entire book just to make a purchasing decision.
;D
I suppose that is why I am sometimes shocked the latest book in a popular series isn't purchased. Or discrepancies, like the new Amor Towles, only one copy at the Pierce library while my local one purchased twelve copies.
-
George:
It's pretty cool to see a book that's not going to be published for several months, and be able to read it before pretty much anyone else.
I would think so, only you didn't do it in this situation ;)
-
I was able to read The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest before it was released here. My friend purchased it in England. First her husband quickly read it, then she did the same, then I got to read it. I was thrilled.

Only fatigue, that's great. I hope you are feeling good today.

My uncle did come home yesterday, but he is going to have home nursing care - NOT HOSPICE - for awhile.
I am sorry. I didn't realize he was that ill. Vibes to your uncle.

Yes I am, DR Jrand71. They seem to be helping so far.

Well I am going to test drive a Smart Car. I looked at it today and have read up about it.
So if I like how it handles on Monday - I will be a Smart Car owner. Photos will of course be posted.

Off to get my flu shot.
-
Picked up Bountiful Baskets for the first time in many months. Got some fun things to play with, including artichokes, figs, red onions and plums.
-
The peaches are a little underripe. I do hope they ripen. Also, there are some tomatoes that are barely pink. I don't have much hope for them.
-
Starting to watch Honeysuckle Rose, which I have never seen. Willie's just a natural. I don't remember Dyan Cannon ever looking this good, even in Heaven Can Wait.
-
Apparently, Sutton Foster's London turn in Anything Goes has been filmed. No word on American showings.
As much as I love the score, I think Sutton's original cast album is far too bland. Could be the sound, which wasn't great. But it could also be Foster.
-
I did see Patti LuPone in it on an Easter Sunday afternoon. The crowd couldn't get enough of it, and it remains one of my all-time favorite afternoons in the theater.
-
Lasy night I watched a bootleg of the 1995 Chicago production of The Golden Apple, with a fine 28-piece orchestra. The cast is quite good, and they sing the rhythms that Jerome Moross wrote. It's far superior to the Dallas Lyric Stage production, which does have some good performances but the dreadful conductor really screws with Moross' writing and even makes cuts in the score. The Chicago production should have been the one to get the complete recording.

My Latin is in need of radical remediation.
I didn't realize (or remember) that the plural of opus is not opi, it is opera.

I’m tired.
-
And I have to go dancing tonight.
-
I'm up, I'm up - almost eleven hours of sleep.
-
Yikes.
-
I told my boss yesterday that after my vacation at the end of the month, I still had three weeks left. I asked if I should take a day or two every week through the rest of the year. She said we’ll talk Wednesday.
-
Hopefully, that will take care of the lethargic and logy malarkey.
-
11 hours of sleep sounds nice.
-
I listened to a little Rubbra piano work last night. Beautiful.
-
I bought some fall plants today and got most in pots. Pansies, lettuces and herbs.
-
I still have a few that need to go in the ground.
-
Let’s move on …

Three!

Re the Judy Garland album - I commented on the site - the comment isn't showing up with the other comments and probably won't because I'm pretty sure I know what's what here: This is a UK company taking advantage of the EU copyright rule - over there, all albums issued pre-1964 are in the public domain, wherever they were issued. So, I truly doubt they're legit releases in the sense that they're not licensing from Capitol, which simply means they're not mastering from the tapes but from some previous release. I don't know from sharp, but their assertion that many LPs were mastered sharp is nonsense. And they say, "even though they weren't recorded sharp" - well, if that was the case, if they were using the original tapes there wouldn't be a problem, would there? But since this is a live recording, there could, of course, have been an issue with the tape machine at the venue. And they say "slightly sharp" - sounds like a big load of hooey to me.
-
Sounds like a money grab to me.
-
Interesting, bk. Thanks for your comments.

If you're tired of trying to distinguish between "affect" and "effect," just use "ǽffect."

Saturday evening greetings! My big effort for today was sweeping lots of dry leaves off our new front steps and patio.

I will be reading this when it is published in February.

This book is also due in February. Jeremy Denk is an amazing pianist, and writes about music as eloquently as he plays it.

Pretty.

Glad you felt up to it, DR Ginny. In a way, that must have been quite satisfying.

Saturday evening greetings! My big effort for today was sweeping lots of dry leaves off our new front steps and patio.
You can buy small leaf blowers that aren't too noisy. We have one for our small patio.

Of course, patrons and employees can submit a request for purchase for any title. That doesn't mean that it will be purchased, but it's an option if the selector hasn't purchased something.

When I was in high school, I remember one time when people said other mnemonics to remember the notes on the staff. The only two that I remember are "Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge," and "Empty Garbage Before Dad Flips." ;D

No, not this time. Too many other things going on.
Then I think it was a good idea to wait to read it. It shifts between five characters, two of whom shift between time lines in their lives, and a sixth story on top of it. Ones of the stories adds a sci-fi touch as it takes place in the future on a space ship. Two of the characters have a parallel story in the 1400's in Constantinople.

;D

It sounds more confusing than it is, and I am enjoying the book.

We are going to go see the grand kid.
As for traveling, I would go to Portugal & Spain.

I would like to go to Istanbul and to Israel.

I would like to go to Japan and other Asian countries.

TOD - I’m not much interested in getting on an airplane anytime soon, but, if I did, I’d go to Florida to visit my niece in her new home.

Just realized I didn't read today's Notes. Had better get on that, pronto!
-
OK. All caught up.

Good night, friends.

TOD - I’m not much interested in getting on an airplane anytime soon, but, if I did, I’d go to Florida to visit my niece in her new home.

Had a nice night of dancing. Not too many people, but they seemed to enjoy themselves.

I made a cheese dip that was rather interesting. You mix mozzarella, sour cream and cream cheese together and baked it with squash, spinach, 6 cloves of garlic, rosemary and thyme. Very low carb. And delicious.

No nibbles yet on Mom's house. Been on the market for a month now. I know it's after the home buying season, but still. There's an open house, so here's hoping.
-
Started a fascinating book today called The Library Book by Susan Orlean. It's largely a history of the Los Angeles Public Library using the horrific fire as a launch.
I hadn't read any of her other books, but this one makes me want to. I know of The Orchid Thief, but more from the movie Adaptation than the book itself.

Hello, 0 guests!
-
What's your favorite Willie Nelson song?
-
I would have to say Crazy, which is in a class by itself. But I also like On the Road Again and Whiskey River.
-
The music is what I'm enjoying most about Honeysuckle Rose. The script is one big long cliche, and not an interesting cliche at that. But the direction is interest, and Willie's low-key charm is winning.
-
And that's all he wrote.
-
Good night, all.

To Florida to hug my girl
-
We went to IKEA today to look at dressers
-
Everything we liked was “temporarily unavailable “
-
We did visit the cafe though

Swedish meatballs, mashed potatoes, broccoli, lingonberries and gravy
-
Mmmmmmmmmmmmm
-
Cinco!!
-
Lingonberry juice
-
And a slice of almond cake
-
Oh my that was so good
-
We quite forgot our disappointment with the non availability of the dressers

At my work, our sick leave has no cap, so if anyone has more than 240 hours of vacation time at the end of the year, it's moved into your sick leave, so you at least don't lose the time.

I'm back from working concessions for a rock group called Wilco.
-
Their opening act was just plain LOUD! :o
-
I didn't see too much of Wilco...we had to clean up the concessions before we could go in, and that took a little longer than usual.
-
Here's a picture I took:
-
During the pre-show usher chat, we were specifically told that photos and recordings WERE allowed!
-
I only took a few pictures, just because it was okay. ;)

I also took a short video excerpt of one of their songs...I didn't even record a whole song.
