Well, you've read the notes, the notes were together again, and now it is time for you to post until the together again cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: ROISTER!
-
Nice poster, BK.
-
Good morning, all!
-
I had a strange night of sleep in a bed filled with three strange cats. I was awake for much of the time, but I kep dozing. I remember bits of a dream in which Rob Berman, Sara Jean Ford, and I were in a coffee shop.
-
Much of my night was anxiety about today's procedure (https://www.radiologyinfo.org/en/info/fiducial-marker) and pondering my schedule for the time between kitty cleanup and my departure for the procedure.
-
Good morning, friends.
-
{{{hugs}}} for you today, DR elmore3003!!!!
-
I was going crazy trying to find a recording I had heard on WQXR which they didn't announce. I was almost sure it was Kathleen Battle singing.
When I found it, it turned out to be Heidi Grant Murphy.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Vibes and hugs for Elmore today.
-
Vibes for us all.

TOD 1:
The first that come to mind:
Hershy Kay for On the 20th Century
Jonathan Tunick:
Promises, Promises
Merrily We Roll Along
Follies
Company
Sweeney Todd
Larry Moore for Jubilee
Michael Starobin for Sunday in the Park with George
-
My MRI has been moved to Friday, but I do not have a time yet.
-
Friday! Well vibes for DR ELMORE anyway!

This is the information for my Uncle's services.

I like too many orchestrations to have a few favorites, but I do like the work of these gentlemen:
Frank Saddler, Jerome Kern's choice until his death around 1922;
Otto Langey and Harold Sanford, Victor Herbert's men; Sanford replaced Langey when he left M. Witmark & Sons for G. Schirmer in 1912;
Robert Russell Bennett. nothing else to say;
Ted Royal, underrated;
Hans Spialek, known primarily for Rodgers & Hart, but he surprisingly shows up as a ghost writer on other shows;
Don Walker, really versatile, but his work on Carousel, She Loves Me, and Most Happy Fella re stunning;
Hershy Kay, truly brilliant, and his NYC Ballet scores are amazing;
Phil Lang, gave Jerry Herman lots of glitter and beautiful work on My Fair Lady and Camelot;
Sid Ramin, Robert Ginzler, Irwin Kostal, Ralph Burns, the best of the "new" guys of the 1950s and 60s;
Jonathan Tunick, always amazing;
Alex Lacamoire, he amazes me.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Last night -- and this morning -- I could not have felt much more exhausted from the day's rehearsals and tech work. Even my sleep was rocky, but I have now eaten a nicely prepared breakfast and am relaxing over a second cup of coffee. I even washed yesterday's dishes and am preparing to do a load of laundry. I've got plenty to do before this evenings dress rehearsal, but it will now all happen in good time.
-
VERY BEST VIBES AND WISHES FOR A GOOD PROCEDURE FOR DR ELMORE THIS MORNING!
-
My list of favorite orchestrations couldn't hold a candle to DR Elmore's, so I shan't even attempt it. And like he said, there are simply too many to name.
He does omit one orchestrator highly deserving of mention, guy by the name of Larry Moore.
Interesting choice there, Alex Lacamoire. I didn't know the name until I began getting familiar with Lin-Manuel Miranda's shows, and then I discovered in retrospect that he had been responsible for the 5-piece (or is it 6?) Bat Boy, which is one of the earlier, quite complex - and hugely fun - programmed-keyboard orchestrations. He's also a complete nut on how his scores are edited and presented on the page, a quality that warms my pea-pickin' little heart in this era of bland, generic looking error-ridden Finale pages.
-
Oh, God, the humiliation of attempting a Fleet enema while Annabelle and Stella offer advice on what you're doing wrong!
-
As far as I'm concerned, these procedures and biopsies should require a full colonoscopy prep. It's a pain but so much easier.
-
I know!
TMI!
-
Not at all! Think nothing of it.
I will respectfully disagree, however, on Fleet vs. Full Prep. I find those twelve hours (or whatever it actually comes to) of prep an abomination that shouldn't have to exist in an advanced civilization. There should be a five-minute "thing" they could hook you up to when you show up for one of those procedures that gets the damned job done on the spot. Failing that, the five minutes of Fleet would be my choice. I don't know about the help from the cats, though. I can see that complicating things.
-
Good morning!
-
Lots of vibes for DR elmore!
-
Thanks for the birthday greetings, TCB!

When I found it, it turned out to be Heidi Grant Murphy.
I went to Western Washington University with her! At the time, she was Heidi Lynn Grant. We actually had a couple of classes together. She had an incredible voice back then, too. :)
-
Kurt Weill was a rather accomplished orchestrator.
-
Two!

DR George I am sorry you won't be able to make the trip to Portland. Do you know what area he wants to go to? There are still shops open, however, he downtown is a bit sad.
We went to 23rd Street and walked around. The only store we shopped in was William Sonoma. The downstairs was as beautiful as ever but the upstairs was totally empty :-\
-
DR George maybe next week you can take a family drive along some beautiful scenery.

I have a question for DR ChasSmith.
Do you think that the other "masterclass coach" in Tick Tick Boom (opposite Sondheim) is modeled on anyone in particular?

You mean the guy who was contradicted and made to look foolish by Sondheim every time he opened his mouth? The character name is Walter Bloom, and if that's a real person whose name I should recognize, I don't. My immediate impression was that he might have been a critic, since they MIGHT have let a few prominent ones sit in as well, maybe to help moderate (?). And who would be more likely to be such a blowhard? Probably a critic, as opposed to a known "creative". That was my guess.

Thanks, Jane, but it's fine. I invoicing to finish today, so it's a good thing that I'm at work now. :) He said he wants to get an iPhone for one of his sons (he has two), but my sister's boyfriend said that Apple is having a huge sale (40-50% off!) begining tomorrow. So, we might go to the Apple store at the Centralia outlet mall, and since I have tomorrow off, I can go then.

They're also going to go to Voodoo Donuts and get a couple of vegan donuts for my niece...and probably some for the rest of us, too.

Thanks for the link, Singdaw! The story during college was that she came from Lynden, Washington (a town similar to the one in Footloose...conservative-wise) and just went to college to get her MRS degree ::) but found that she had an incredible voice.
-
She studied voice and won the Met auditions, then eventually married her accompanist.
-
And, of course, went on to have a wonderful career in professional opera.

Another day from hell!
The appointment was for 11:00.
I got a taxi at 10:15.
I arrived at Lenox Hill Hospital, took the elevator tp the fifth floor, and walked into the doctor's office at 10:45.
At 12:15 I was finally taken back to the "room" for the procedure, stripped, and put into the stirrups.
At 12:30 or so the doctor showed up.
Around 12:45 the procedure was over and I had to wait while they made sure I was okay.
At 12:55 I walked into the changing room and checked my cell phone' no word from Access-A-Ride.
At 1:01 I called Access-A-Ride and I was told I had a 5-minute wait. I was pit on hold forever, finally connected to a young lady who put me on hold for more than five minutes, then told me my ride would be there in five minutes. It was 1:25.
At 1:46 I got a taxi, and at 1:50 I got a message from Access-a-Ride that my ride would pick me up in six minutes. I walked into my apartment around 2:10 and never heard from Access-a-Ride. This really pisses me off.

Walter Kerr? Harold Bloom? I was also thinking Robert Brustein from your descriptions.

-
Made some really good guacamole for lunch. Two perfect avocados.
-
I’m glad you’re home, Elmore. I’m sorry you had to suffer to get there.
-
Ushering for Million Dollar Christmas tonight. It’s a holiday version of Million Dollar Quartet with Elvis, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis singing together.
-
Hey, if we had Plaid Tidings, I guess we can have this.

I wanted to go but we didn't make it. The closest I got was seeing a man on the street holding a box. I had other treats though and didn't really need a donut.
-
Thanks to DR ChasSmith, DR John G., and DR elmore3003 for your thoughts. Interesting stuff!
-
Sorry about the travels, DR elmore3003, but glad that you got it done.

Question for bk:
So, with the Studio Ghibli films, can one get any set or version? Do they all have the Disney dubs, which you can just turn off?
-
Monday evening greetings! At about 10:15 this morning, Richard accidentally gave his right foot a bath with scalding hot tea. I immediately put cold compresses on it, but decided to call 911 when he started hyperventilating. They took him to the ER, where it was determined he has second degree burns. They treated him with pain meds and antibiotic salve and we were home after a couple of hours.
All in all, I would rather have gone to Target, which was our original plan for the day.
-
DR Elmore, I’m glad today went smoothly medically, but wish the logistics had worked better for you.
-
How awful, DR Ginny! So sorry to hear this.
~~~ULTRA-STRENGTH RECOVERY VIBES~~~ for DH Richard!
Thank you, DR Singdaw!
I don’t know sonker, but where’s pie?
-
Thank you, DRs Jane, Elmore, and John G. He’s taking it easy and watching his “comfort” movies.
Now playing: “The Shoes of the Fisherman.”
-
Good afternoon.
-
How awful, DR Ginny. My son did that to his foot. We had appointments with the doctor every other day for a while to be sure it didn't get infected.
One thing to know -- it will change looks as it heals. It may look weird and awful, but sometimes that's how the healing looks.
-
Thanks, DR Laura. Richard has been referred to the burn clinic at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, where I landed when I had my heart attack 11+ years ago.
-
Also, although it is not even Thanksgiving yet, I thought this was cute...
Cute, and somewhat healthy.
I forgot about the risk of infection. My hand became infected after burning it in the oven. Fortunately I could easily see the beginning of the red strip from the infection and immediately went to a walk in clinic.
DR Ginny did the paramedics do anything for the burn when they arrived?
Not really. They were not the best paramedics I’ve ever encountered.
No tax savings in Centralia, but big savings from the sale will definitely offset the tax.
Sorry.
-
As for compatibility, my uncle expects it to be. I guess you just need a new Sim card, and a power plug that converts the Euopean power to what this made-in-the-US phone uses.
Back from Million Dollar Christmas. Not my favorite type of jukebox musical, but the performers were fun and so were the songs.
-
It was basically Million Dollar Quartet repurposed for Christmas.
-
But it was also strange because it was a musical without a program. I have no idea who performed in it.
-
The Elvis was actually fairly good. The Jerry Lee Lewis was great. The Carl Perkins left no impression. And the Johnny Cash was no Johnny Cash.
-
They tried hard to give the girl some business to do. She sang Santa Baby and Mele Kalikimaka.
-
Gratuitous post No. 99!
-
There was an audience of only about 600 people, but they were really into the music.
-
I found the sound check so loud that I grabbed ear plugs.
-
I was originally supposed to be in the grand lobby, but I somehow ended up being the only usher in the balcony. There were eight people up there, all in the same party.
-
I also managed to get near the end of Cloud Cuckoo Land. I can't say I liked it. Can't say I disliked it. It just is. I never developed much interest in most of the characters.
-
I'm now back to The Stand. Will finish episode six in a few minutes. Yawn.
-
I've also started putting up some decorations in my study. Deciding what to haul out of the boxes and what to leave packed is taking longer than I thought it would. I forgot a lot of stuff I had that I really like.
-
Forgot this beauty.
-
I'm up, I'm up - and where the HELL have I been? Well, didn't get up until two - nine hours of needed sleep - and then it was just going and doing until my Zoom thing, plus writing what I needed to prior to that, then getting the holiday show announced everywhere, then food, then other stuff. I'm finally eating a salad (had Panda Express earlier) and catching up with everything.
-
Oh MY! VIbes for Fr. RICHARD.
-
DR ELMORE I am so sorry for your delays and frustrations!
BUT it is OVER!
-
Not much for me to do tomorrow - Wednesday is the Main Event....
We shall see who makes an ass of him/herself that day. My hope is NOBODY....but I cannot say that I am optimistic.
-
Question for bk:
So, with the Studio Ghibli films, can one get any set or version? Do they all have the Disney dubs, which you can just turn off?
GKids/Shout Factory released them all. Not in a set, but all of them at very reasonable prices - under twenty bucks for the regular packaging - all contain the Disney dubs, but the English subs for the Japanese version are done correctly and that's key. I'm sure there are complete sets overseas, but I think you have to be really careful that they're not bootlegs. I recommend the steelbook packaging - most of them are twenty each and they're beautiful, But the regular release packaging is fine and those are closer to sixteen bucks.
-
I love the score for THE SHOES OF THE FISHERMAN by Alex North.
I have played the LP many times......and of course it was included in a list of ALMOSTS in New York Magazine.
Novels: The Socks of the Fisherman.
-
There is some basketball on ... and I have been extended an invitation to attend an NBA game on Friday evening.
I think I will go - because WHY NOT? It has been decades since I have gone to a professional basketball game. But it IS Indiana....and I do love the game. So my sister Paula and I will attend with my cousin Carol and her husband Jerrell.
-
It is late.
-
For me.... Barnum is covered up, but he is wondering what I am doing on the computer after midnight and expressing himself....
-
I'm FINALLY home!
-
I went shopping with my sister (again) because she needed more stuff for the next couple of days, and she hates going shopping alone. ::)
-
So, I go with her...some times.
-
And now, it's time to turn the page to the...
-
PAGE FIVE DANCE!!
-
And here we are. :)
-
Why I oughta...
-
I have one more little bit to write before bed tonight - just a quarter of a page and it shouldn't take but five minutes. Then I'll have two big things to write of what was discussed today.
-
TCB the story of the semi driving over the car is shocking and somewhat of a miracle.
-
Hi, Tom.
Ginny, good wishes and prayers that Richard has a speedy (and painless) recovery.
Well, this is (in my humble opinion) a really cool solo-ish piano cover version of Toto's "Africa":
