DR George I am sorry you won't be able to make the trip to Portland.  Do you know what area he wants to go to?  There are still shops open, however, he downtown is a bit sad.

We went to 23rd Street and walked around.  The only store we shopped in was William Sonoma.  The downstairs was as beautiful as ever but the upstairs was totally empty  :-\

TCB the story of the semi driving over the car is shocking and somewhat of a miracle.

Not at all! Think nothing of it.

I will respectfully disagree, however, on Fleet vs. Full Prep. I find those twelve hours (or whatever it actually comes to) of prep an abomination that shouldn't have to exist in an advanced civilization. There should be a five-minute "thing" they could hook you up to when you show up for one of those procedures that gets the damned job done on the spot. Failing that, the five minutes of Fleet would be my choice. I don't know about the help from the cats, though. I can see that complicating things.

:))

I like the idea of a "thing" that cleans you out in 5 minutes.

I have a question for DR ChasSmith.

Do you think that the other "masterclass coach" in Tick Tick Boom (opposite Sondheim) is modeled on anyone in particular?

You mean the guy who was contradicted and made to look foolish by Sondheim every time he opened his mouth? The character name is Walter Bloom, and if that's a real person whose name I should recognize, I don't. My immediate impression was that he might have been a critic, since they MIGHT have let a few prominent ones sit in as well, maybe to help moderate (?). And who would be more likely to be such a blowhard? Probably a critic, as opposed to a known "creative". That was my guess.

Thanks, Jane, but it's fine.  I invoicing to finish today, so it's a good thing that I'm at work now. :) He said he wants to get an iPhone for one of his sons (he has two), but my sister's boyfriend said that Apple is having a huge sale (40-50% off!) begining tomorrow.  So, we might go to the Apple store at the Centralia outlet mall, and since I have tomorrow off, I can go then.

Thanks for the link, Singdaw!  The story during college was that she came from Lynden, Washington (a town similar to the one in Footloose...conservative-wise) and just went to college to get her MRS degree ::) but found that she had an incredible voice.

Another day from hell!

The appointment was for 11:00.
I got a taxi at 10:15.
I arrived at Lenox Hill Hospital, took the elevator tp the fifth floor, and walked into the doctor's office at 10:45.
At 12:15 I was finally taken back to the "room" for the procedure, stripped, and put into the stirrups.
At 12:30 or so the doctor showed up.
Around 12:45 the procedure was over and I had to wait while they made sure I was okay.
At 12:55 I walked into the changing room and checked my cell phone' no word from Access-A-Ride.
At 1:01 I called Access-A-Ride and I was told I had a 5-minute wait. I was pit on hold forever, finally connected to a young lady who put me on hold for more than five minutes, then told me my ride would be there in five minutes. It was 1:25.
At 1:46 I got a taxi, and at 1:50 I got a message from Access-a-Ride that my ride would pick me up in six minutes. I walked into my apartment around 2:10 and never heard from Access-a-Ride. This really pisses me off.

Walter Kerr? Harold Bloom? I was also thinking Robert Brustein from your descriptions.

Ushering for Million Dollar Christmas tonight. It’s a holiday version of Million Dollar Quartet with Elvis, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis singing together.

No tax savings at the mall ;)

If he purchases an iPhone here will it be compatible in Germany?

I wanted to go but we didn't make it.  The closest I got was seeing a man on the street holding a box.  I had other treats though and didn't really need a donut.

Question for bk:

So, with the Studio Ghibli films, can one get any set or version? Do they all have the Disney dubs, which you can just turn off?

Monday evening greetings!  At about 10:15 this morning, Richard accidentally gave his right foot a bath with scalding hot tea.  I immediately put cold compresses on it, but decided to call 911 when he started hyperventilating.  They took him to the ER, where it was determined he has second degree burns.  They treated him with pain meds and antibiotic salve and we were home after a couple of hours.

All in all, I would rather have gone to Target, which was our original plan for the day.
