Well, you've read the notes, the notes said Merry Christmas, and now it is time for you to post until the Christmas cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: JUBILATE!
-
And now - Dino at the piano.

Merry Christmas to one and all!
May the New Year be kind to you and those you love.
For the first day of Christmas I would like to offer this selection.

I forgot to set the alarm, so I ended up sleeping later than I intended. I'm still trying to wake up.
-
BK, I'm happy the "do" went well and was done splendidly.
-
DR Jeanne, what did you do about dinner? Did you eat the one that was delivered?
-
It sounds as though every DR had a nice Christmas Eve. Thatch and I watched the 1970 Canadian broadcast of Hansel and Gretel, which was beautifully done. The one "name" in the cast was the wonderful Canadian contralto Maureen Forrester as The Witch. Hansel was sung by mezzo-soprano, Judith Forst, whose name I recognized - probably from the Met's magazine Opera News - and she looked very boyish and moved wonderfully. The production, instead of having The Witch only appear in Act Three, had her stalking them earlier in the forest, and that added a Blair Witch Project to the proceedings. The dream-pantimime of the fourteen angels was really lovely.
-
Good morning.
-
And Merry Christmas to all!
-
Last night the rain let up so I walked over to the church for the Christmas Eve Service. It was very nice. Our new minister did very well. He has two small children, and Mrs. Minister was very busy with Baby, who just turned one and learned how to run recently. She kept running off, so Little Boy, who is almost three, sat with me and played cars. He calls me Grandma, because my GS calls me that, of course.
-
For the first time since my mother passed away, I am not doing the cooking. We are going to my son and daughter-in-law's house. We will have some delicious Filipino food this year.
-
Good morning, all. Merry Christmas!
-
Filipino food sounds delicious, Laura.
-
I had a lousy night of sleep. Allergies were preventing clear breathing.
-
Glad the do did its magic.

My favorite Christmas memories:
I used to work so very hard to make Christmas when my kids were younger. I over-stressed myself to make sure everything was "right." One year, Daughter and I decided to go to Las Vegas before Christmas (school was out a week before and after Christmas) to see Forever Plaid.
I got everything done for Christmas, and we were driving north and my hands were clenched SO tight on the steering wheel. I realized that if I hadn't gotten something done, it was ok; we were on vacation, and I could RELAX now. I literally felt my hands loosen their grip on the steering wheel. It was the best feeling ever. I relaxed and we had a very fun time.
We made Christmas Week Vacation a thing. It was great. After she graduated college and began to work, we couldn't do it any more. I still miss it.
-
That was a long story. Maybe next year I'll tell the story of the Errant Christmas Cards.
-
Merry Christmas!🎄🎁
May your day be merry and bright
-
This year we had no Christmas Eve gathering
-
I sent no cards
-
I bought very few gifts
-
Last night my mom and I went to the 8 pm church service
-
Usually the church is packed
-
It was less than a third full and a number of the choirs were pre-filmed and presented on the overhead screens
-
We all wore masks and kept our distances
-
And communion was done in our pews with prepackaged elements
-
Candles were replaced with glow sticks
-
I was the reader
-
The service was streamed and is on YouTube so I imagine more people were watching from home
-
This morning we will zoom with Vixter and Vixhubby
-
This afternoon we’ll go to my Moms and have dinner, the three of us
-
That sounds like a nice quiet holiday, Vixmom.
-
Time to get ip and make the macaroni and cheese.
-
I’m trying out Patti Labelle’s recipe. Five cheeses. Well, four cheeses and one cheese food.
-
DR vixmom, it's so good to see you. I've missed you lastely on HHW, but you are truly one of the bright lights on this site and in my life. Please send the vixter my best wishes.
-
I'm moving quite slowly today, and I don't care who knows it.
-
Good morning, all.
-
I woke up way too early (like, 4:00 am), laid awake for a while, and finally fell back to sleep. Then the crazy irritating dreams kicked in. Mikey got fed without me, thankfully, and is blissed out somewhere.
Merry Christmas to all!
-
Which includes vixmom. Thank you for being here this morning!
-
Those two Do foodstuffs are sounding mighty good. I want to make them sometime.
-
DR Elmore — That Canadian Hansel sounds interesting and fun. Is it on YouTube? I should go back and find your original post.
Edit: Maureen Forrester! I listened to so many recordings with her back in the day, but I don’t recall ever seeing her in anything.
-
Definitely glad I got that extra sleep. I needed it.
-

I believe I saw Forrester in the NY City Opers production of Händel's Giulio Caesare with Beverly Sills and Samual Ramey when it played the Cincinnati May Festival around 1970.

DR ChasSmith, the CBC Hansel and Gretel is available from my favorite bootlegger:

CONGRATS to MR BK on the do! It sounds like much fun.
-
All of the videos and links from yesterday were much fun.
For a moment I thought a women had gone on for Hugh Jackman.....and then I kept reading the story....the video was most excellent.
DR GEORGE told us what everyone else got - what did the chickens get for Christmas?
-
DR ELMORE mention the angel ballet....back in the 1980's, I was a reader for a Play Festival that would choose 2 plays to produce during the summer.
There were many submissions. It was while I was reading these "plays" that I decided that typewriters should be registered like guns because not everyone should be allowed to write a play.
For one submission, I just had to comment that the "Abraham Lincoln ballet seemed superfluous....."
-
Everyone have a wonderful Christmas Day!!!
-
Good morning, friends, and Merry Christmas.
-
:)
-
Very few folks at the late Christmas Eve service last night. Families with young kids opt for the early service, as do the elderly who don't want to be out driving late at night.
-
A very quiet day planned here. We don't want to step foot outside. And we likely won't.
-
:)
-
There is a pile 'o foods here, received as gifts within the past day or two, that I really should not be eating: caramel corn, bread, cookies, chocolate, etc.
-
I had two very odd dreams last night that I remember.
-
In the first one, I was trying to order a chicken sandwich from a restaurant that had a very complicated menu. There were so many options. I finally opted for the largest/most expensive, which cost $19 and which, for some reason, was called "the Bear."
-
In the second one, I dreamed that bk revealed his next book in the Notes, along with a mocked-up cover. It was to be a suspense thriller set in Washington D.C.
-
And I thought (in the dream), how is bk going to research the environs?
-
Three.
-
:)
-
We are expecting a dusting of snow this afternoon.
80% chance of snow Sunday into Monday.
-
MERRY CHRISTMAS
-
You, too, DR Ron Pulliam.
-
May your CHRISTMAS have CRANBERRIES in it.
-
I hope Tom drops by for Christmas. And I hope he's feeling better.
-
Mom's still in a lot of pain, from what she says.
-
Wrapped the presents I'm taking today and need to get started on the mac/cheese. All of the ingredients are ready.
-
Great to see you, Vixmom. Many Christmas blessings.
-
Listening to A Hollywood Christmas.
-
I just saw a cauliflower mac and cheese recipe online that looked kind of intriguing.
-
DR elmore3003 - can you tell us a little bit about Moonshine and Mistletoe? Was a company assembled to make the recording?
-
DR elmore3003 - can you tell us a little bit about Moonshine and Mistletoe? Was a company assembled to make the recording?
We wrote it in 2010 after DJ had heard the New York City Gay Men's Chorus somg my Appalachian Carols in the 2009 holiday concert. Three of the carols ended up in the show. It takes place in the late 1930s in a mountain holler outside Louisa Kentucky at the hime of Lessy Boy (Ulysses) and his wife Curleen. They hae three children: Della, mother of three and married to a coal miner; Dovey, the oldest and unmarried who has her eye on the new preacher; and Fewy Joe, who has run away to avoid working in the mines and is now working in a Lexingtn(?) lumber yard. NOTE: remember Joseph was a carpenter.
It's Christmas morning and the family and friends start showing up. Besides Dovey and Della and her family, the new minister and Lessy Boy's friend Wilmer, who's just been in court for peddling moonshine, and Lessy Boy's widowed sister and her adult son Arly, who is mentally challenged. Her husband has died in a mining disaster the year before. Curleen still grieves her missing son who's been away for several years and there's been no word. After dinner, the long-missing Dewy Joe shows up with his pregnant young wife, who goes into labor. Curleen and Dewey Joe have a tense, angry reunion before all ends happily. There's one last surprise.
-
We had a workshop of the show and a week of performances in November 2011 at the Hilton Head arts center, and a reading in 2015 after we added the song for Della and her husband "My Love Brought Me Summer on a Cold Winter's Day," but it was not well prepared. In August 2016, the York Theatre gave us a week's rehearsal and we had a pretty good reading. Our DR ChasSmith came to it.
The success of that got our producer working on a demo, which we recorded in March 2017. We selected the cast from the folk we really wanted who had done the various readings. For some reason, the produceer,. who's really a good guy, is dragging his heels about finishing the album and releasing it. I think the recording would push interest in a production or two.
-
Christmas Day greetings! We’ve had great fun so far, opening our stockings and a few presents. Everyone else went to an 11am service and I stayed home to get myself together for the rest of the day. I’m now enjoying a cup of coffee and a cookie.
-
Thanks, DR elmore3003. That really helps to put it in context.
-
~~~VIBES~~~ that the show has a future life.
-
.
-
I'm up, I'm up - not much sleep - maybe three or four hours.
-
Whoa. Not nearly enough.
-
We are watching Home Alone. The original one. I don't think I've ever seen one of these all the way through.
-
.
-
About to head off for my most relaxed Christmas in many many years.
Relaxed vibes for DR LAURA.
-
thanks to all at HHW for the vibes.
Waiting on a couple of checks to be added to the estate.....then working on getting the estate sale to the next level....probably an online auction of the remaining items.
Only one person has not picked up her selected items....my aunt of course. Hopefully she will do so next week.
-
Then we can sell the house and move on!
-
To page four.
That is a great story. I haven't the energy for those "stressful" days, yet they were fun and I miss them.
-
:)
Cute :)
Mom's still in a lot of pain, from what she says.
I would expect so :(
What type of cast does she have?
Not babysitting?
-
We had a very long family video chat and watched Freyja open her presents. She really likes opening boxes ;D
-
DR Ron, sorry about your uncle.
Vibes to your cousin Debra!
-
Speaking of uncles, I forgot to send 94th birthday wishes to Keith's uncle.
-
Done.
-
Bruce, it sounds like your Do was very nice, maybe extra nice with only eleven people. Did you have any other cancellations after the two you mentioned?
-
DR Jrand71, why didn't your dreadful aunt take her purchases with her?
-
Sad news: Harvey Evans has died. I used to see him around town. I had no idea he was 6 years older than I.
-
I had my leftovers for Christmas dinner. It was so good.!
-
Hello, everyone.
...and, MERRY CHRISTMAS!
-
DR Jeanne, what did you do about dinner? Did you eat the one that was delivered?
Yes, I ate it. It was a Flower Burger and potato wedges. It was cold, but still fresh. The bag was kinda soaked, but the food wasn't. If the driver had put the package on even the first or second stair -- a mere foot or so from where it was left -- it would have been protected from the rain.
-
Vibes to John G's mom. And everyone else, too.
-
I hope Tom drops by for Christmas. And I hope he's feeling better.
Yes, I hope so, too. We need a report on how you're doing, Tom!
-
Relaxed vibes for DR LAURA.
Ditto.
For a moment I thought a women had gone on for Hugh Jackman.....and then I kept reading the story....the video was most excellent.
DR GEORGE told us what everyone else got - what did the chickens get for Christmas?
They're going to get two new chicken sisters! A neighbor around the corner of my niece and sister had some chickens also, but have been slowly getting rid of them (to be kept as pets) because they're retiring.
-
There are only two left and my niece said that she'd take them when she is able to convert a shed to a larger coop, sometime next spring.
-
I had trouble sleeping and woke with a sinus headache. Sigh. I had planned to do a few things around the apartment today, but will just relax instead.
Ooo...that would be cool if that's really what he's thinking! ;D
-
And I thought (in the dream), how is bk going to research the environs?
BK has ways!
-
I finished SOME DAYS ARE MURDER the other night. Very BK! I have truly never read another mystery like it.
-
Mom's still in a lot of pain, from what she says.
:(
~~~Continued Vibes for John's Mom!!~~~
-
TTFN. I'm off to do some serious relaxing.
-
Listening to A Hollywood Christmas.
My sister has a YouTube channel playing on her TV, and it's playing non-stop Christmas tunes...all instrumentals, no vocals. It's quite nice and soothing.
-

~~~DITTO!!~~~
Oh, look! It's Page Five!! :D
-
Sad news: Harvey Evans has died. I used to see him around town. I had no idea he was 6 years older than I.
Oh, no. :(
-
I'm at my sister's and no guests have arrived, yet.
-
I'm sure they will...eventually.
-
Here's our feast spread:
-
The white papers in the upper right corner contain mini rounds of four different flavors of brie cheese that we got from Costo.
-
Time to eat!
-
We're not waiting...the guests can eat when they get here. :)
-
It was pleasant walking in clear weather today. I am sure the rain will return soon. We were happy to see neighbors walking since we hadn't seen them in awhile. We stopped and had a longish visit.
-
Sad news: Harvey Evans has died. I used to see him around town. I had no idea he was 6 years older than I.
Loved him. Saw him in Barnum and later in La Cage.
-
Harvey was also the tar in Dames at Sea on TV. And a dancing chimney sweep in Mary Poppins' big Step in Time number.
-
Darling Daughter has come and gone. We stayed in, had a grand time reminiscing, looking at photographs, watching some of those driving videos, laughing, and she had some spaghetti and tuna pasta salad. She brought me two loafs - one cherry, one pumpkin, a fun mat with a walk of fame star on it with my name, some cookies, some caramels (she makes the loafs and other stuff herself), and two lottery scratchers. The first was a no-go, the second I get a free ticket.
-
Sorry to hear about Harvey - a lovely man and if you never read the interview we did when Follies was released on our CD, it's still up at kritzerland.com
-
I'm having some tuna pasta salad - no spaghetti for me.
-
Daughter forgot to take the big container of sauce I had for her.
-
I'll do a little viewing, and then I'll try to do an hour of writing on the project with David Wechter.
Great gifts, and of course this best gift is having her there with you.
-
Daughter forgot to take the big container of sauce I had for her.
Darn.
-
And I left a bag of cookies at the house where I had Christmas dinner. I'll get them Wednesday.
-
Mom had another fall today. Thankfully, it was minor.
My sister Annaliese and her husband made it to Louisville. While there, they were able to get her a cane with four feet on the bottom. A lot of the folks at the theater where I usher use those. They seem to be good.
-
Mom is also not drinking enough fluids, which is affecting her mental state. She's fuzzy when she doesn't drink, more lucid when she does.
-
But she hates the act of drinking, so she doesn't do it.
What a relief. I hope that is good enough, and that she uses it.
Hopefully this is why she is falling and she will make an effort to drink more. I once read we get less thirsty as we get older. Sometimes I have something a little bit salty to make me thirsty.
-
But she hates the act of drinking, so she doesn't do it.
Oh no. Does she like soup? Too bad melons are currently out of season.
-
DR John G., confusion is a sign of a bladder infection in older people.
I don't understand that, but medical folks tell me that's one of the first things they check for in older people.
-
We had such a relaxing dinner at my son and DIL's house. Well, for me it was relaxing. Not for her, probably.
I could do that every year now.
-
Interesting. I would think you would hurt if you had a bladder infection.
Celery & cucumbers are good foods to eat to keep hydrated.
-
I was hoping DR TCB would post today, and before I signed off.
-
I need a little levity, so it's Buster Keaton in Split Marriage for me. I've never seen this one before.
-
'night
-
We followed up Home Alone with Grumpy Old Men. A couple that are friends of ours live across the street from the house that Ann Margaret lives in in the movie, not far from here. They call their house Grumpy Old Manor.
-
I was hoping DR TCB would post today, and before I signed off.
Me, too.
~~~CONTINUED VIBES~~~ for the DM of DR John G.
-
Glad you had a nice visit with your DD, bk.
-
Tomorrow is the Feast of Stephen that Good King Wenceslas looked out on. It's also the DH's birthday.
-
Good night, friends.
-
Happy early birthday to Singdaw's DH.
-
Spite Marriage isn't Keaton's best, but there are still some amazing stunts and sight gags. One where he's trying to put on a fake beard is just a hoot.
-
Merry Christmas to any who may have missed me!
-
I hope Santa was good to everyone.
-
Santa was very good to me.
I have some good friends and good relatives who greeted, feted and supplied me with good cheer.
-
Has anyone else felt as if today were Sunday?
-
I had a lovely Christmas lunch today. It was a bean burrito (No cheese) which they forgot to give me salsa or sour cream for flavor. It was served with a scoop of mashed potatoes, minus gravy, butter, margarine, or salt! It was a lunch I may never forget.
-
Merry Christmas, Ron. All the best to you.
-
My dear friend, Kelly, tracked me down and gave me a call. It was a wonderful surprise.
-
Monday I am expected to check out of the rehab center.
-
Merry Christmas, Ron. All the best to you.
And to you, Sir Tom of Birkeland.
-
I will be heading to my sister’s house until January 7, at least.
-
How did you spend your day?
-
Has anyone else felt as if today were Sunday?
All day.
-
Sending you all sort of vibes and love, Tom
-
Good to see you, Tom. Sorry your Christmas dinner was so, well, sucky.
-
My dear, vixmom! Merry Christmas to you and vixdad (and the Vixettes).
-
Been reading more of James Ivory’s autobiography. He has a hilarious story about Foxy Sondheim that’s as nasty as any her son told about her.
-
Good to see you, Tom. Sorry your Christmas dinner was so, well, sucky.
And you, John.
-
Let’s move on…
-
Seven!
-
I’m sure you’ll be glad to leave rehab in a couple of days.
-
I’m sure you’ll be glad to leave rehab in a couple of days.
I would rather be heading home.
-
I’m sure you would.
-
Have a good night.
-
Sorry, John, I got caught up in the 48 HOURS story about Natalie Wood’s death.
-
Not that they had much that was new.
-
I still think that the British documentary that quite clearly stated that the first marriage of Natalie and RJ ended when Natalie caught RJ having sex with another man; had a lot more to do with her 1981 death.
-
It's been raining pretty hard all night. Took a drive to the mail place and picked up a couple of nice envelopes and a screener for a movie I'm halfway through now and really liking a lot - Coda.
-
The Darling Daughter got cash (her favorite present), Some Days Are Murder, the Tonight's the Night Blu-ray, and this great thing I got right here on Facebook called Past Book - they take photos from your wall and make a book out of them - it's not that expensive and the quality is absolutely amazing - and they do it chronologically, which is fun. She LOVED it.
-
She's not on Facebook so she's never seen a lot of these photos.
-

My dad had a cane that he liked, and I got a few of those things to add to his cane, but I had to keep getting them because even though I measured the size of the bottom of his cane and I bought that size, they never fit! None of them! :P
-
He didn't want to get a new cane because he really liked the wooden one that he had, so he just kept picking it up when it fell when he was sitting. ::)
;)

Happy Birthday to Singdaw's Dear Husband! :D

New notes are up.
-
If you don't believe me go look.
-
If you don't look, go believe me.
-
And I don't care who knows it.
-
Has anyone else felt as if today were Sunday?
Not me because I have to usher again tomorrow, so I know it wasn't Sunday.
