Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of the jerk in the SUV (Someone Unduly Venal), and now it is time for you to post until the cows in the SUV come home.
-
And the word of the day is: DEEM!
-
Good morning, friends.
-
It's a fine Sunday.
-
I was trying to type the word "pudding" on my phone. It suggested "puking," Really, phone? Really?
-
Good morning, all!
-
RE: the SUV... these days, I hesitate to express my anger or frustration with another driver, as there is a chance that they'll then pull out a gun and shoot at you, even if they were clearly in the wrong.
-
I am cautiously optimistic for all of DR elmore3003's irons in the fire.
-
The Sunday after Easter is sometimes called "low" Sunday.
-
I'm lyin' low, indeed. The choir is off today.
-
I slept quite well until 4:11 - I checked the clock on my bathroom break - when two cats, Annabelle and Stella, proceeded to make my life hell for the next 90 minutes.b During that time, thery wrestled over me, walked all over me, lay down beside me, and then repeated the process several times. Frisky cats, I tell them, lead risky lives.
-
Yesterday I lucked out completely on YouTube. I found several wonderful transfers of three LP recordings I have yet to find on CD in good sound.
-
In 1954, Antal Dorati', former conductr with the Ballets Russes de Monte Carlo and then the conductor for the Minneapolis Symphony, recorded the first complete Nutcracker ballet for Mercurty Records. It remains one of the best, but Mercury has never released it on CD. I assume it was the huge success that year of the New York City Ballet production that initiated interest in recording it. And sop began Dorati's trek through Tchaikovsky's threee ballet scores.
In 1955, the same conductorv and orchestra recorded the first complete Sleeping Beauty ballet on three LPs. It, too, is excellent, and Mercury has never released it on CD. A Dorati Society has released a very poor transfer on CD that costs a fortune, but it's lousy.
Dorati and his band also recorded a 2-LP Swan Lake, but it is nt Tchaikovsky's original score. Instead it is the same performing edition rthat's been used since 1900 or so with large cuts, music mopvewd to diffewrent places, and sevceral Tchaikovasky piano pieces interpol;ated into it.
-
So, I was playing on YouTube and decided to check out Antal Dorati's recordings:
The 1954 Nutcracker turned up! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zbP5QquNBz8
And then, to my surprise, so did the complete 1955 Sleeping Beauty! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8P3C1r678M&t=206s
-
I was on a role! So, I thought, let's see if the other LP treasure never to make CD has shown up on YouTube. This is the 1959 Kapp Records 2-LP set of the complete Nutcracker ballet, conducted by Robert Irving and the New York City Ballet Orchestra. By 1959, after five years of playing the score for holiday runs, the orchestra knows this music, and I've never understood why Kapp has not released. Well, it turned uyp on YouTube in excellent sound:

Good morning, all.

I am up early so as to enjoy a couple of leisurely hours before heading out to the My Fair Lady screening.

Hi, Larry and ChasSmith!
-
DR Elmore, what wonderful finds. Thank you for doing the Lord’s work.
I thoroughly regret having given away ALL THREE of those original mono Mercury LP sets in mint condition a decade ago. And I have neither had, nor heard, the NYCB one. I will be on these as soon as I get back this evening.
-
DR George, are you up incredibly early this morning, or still up from last night?
-
This all reminds me of a question I have:
Stage Door is re-releasing the Broadway cast recording of Carnival loaded with a bunch of extras. The cast recording itself will be a copy of a stereo reel-to-reel tape, which, given no other details, I’m assuming to be a standard quarter-track 7-1/2 ips commercial release. I wondered why that’s even necessary, but it looks like the standard CD of the original cast is out of print. I have the CD on the Polydor label, and — the nice extras notwithstanding — I’m wondering if Stage Door’s tape copy is presumed to be an improvement over the Polydor. (It looks like it’s also turned up on a couple of other labels over the years.)

Top o’ the morn’, vixmom!
-
And the word of the day is: DEEM!
Loved his TAYLOR.
-
I I woke up about three in the morning from one of those super realistic feeling dreams
-
When you’re not sure if it’s a dream or a memory
-
I dreamt I went to my neighbors to drop something off quickly
-
Left my van running in front of her house with my purse and phone inside as I was only going to hand her something at the front door
-
But she invited me to step inside as she had something for me as well
-
And when I came out of her house my van was gone
-
I woke up in a panic and had to check to see if my purse and phone were in their accustomed places
-
They were indeed and I went back to bed
-
But I couldn’t sleep
-
So I finally got up, went downstairs and looked through the front window at the driveway to reassure myself that my van was still there
-
And where my van was supposed to be
-
I can’t hold my breath much longer, vixmom...
-
Was my van
-
So I went back to bed
-
Thank you Chas
-
Well I’m coffeed
-
And I’m Wordled
-
So I must hie me to church
-
To repent of my sins
-
And serve communion
-
It looks like a lovely day
-
Wishing all of you a lovely day
-
And all the fried chicken your heart desires
-
I have had many such dreams in which my car, wallet, or phone have been whisked away. It’s undeniable how unsettling it all is, and what an incredible relief it is to awaken from those.
I should add that the sudden dream disappearance of each of those items, individually, is based in reality...whether just the fear that it’s really happened or, in the case of my phone in 2013, the reality of having accidentally thrown it into a city trash can along with my takeout lunch plate and napkin and soda can.
-
Hi, Larry and ChasSmith!
DR Geoge, get to bed! Is your cat keeping you up?

Stage Door did the same with the OBC of KEAN. The extras are really wonderful.

Good morning.
-
Yesterday we saw the tour of Hadestown. Interesting telling of the story. I enjoyed it.
-
DR JohnG, which Nero Wolfe series have you been watching? There are several on Amazon.
-
Very good links from DR ELMORE!
-
DR RON PULLIAM I am so sad that you had to settle for chops when you wanted chicken. It is indeed a sad state of affairs.
-
Shocking but not unusual situation for MR BK. It happens to me now and then.....I usually use the horn a bit....but as DR singdaw wrote - nowadays it could be dangerous.

DR VIXMOM the Dream-O-Matic 6000 says that your dream indicates you are anxious about the transitory state of your life and possessions right now. Make changes you are interested in making and watch for opportunities to improve your life....these opportunities will need to be acted upon quickly.

Sounds like the show was fun last night.....big laughs and heavy mitts.

Page Three on a Sunday!
Lovely weather here today again!

I once carried two sets of keys, one had all the keys I needed for work. Home, church. My moms house etc
The other set was just my car keys
-
One morning I came out of the house, locked up, threw the garbage out, brought the can to the curb and drove to work
-
But I was unable to get in because I didn't have my keys in my pocket, or purse, or car
-
The true horror of what I must have done hit me and I drove home in a panic, probably (My apologies to my fellow motorists) not unlike BKs SUV driver
-
Our sanitation workers had been right on time, and I sadly brought the empty trash can back into its place at the head of the driveway and drove back to work
-
I now carry one set of keys
-
Good morning!
-
Sorry for my absence yesterday I never got a text my friend Robin sent me and had to hurry to get ready yesterday morning. We were gone all day A group of Barbra fans met at the new Academy Museum and we took pictures on the "Barbra Streisand Bridge," toured the Museum and had dinner
-
My phone battery loses power very quickly. I have one of those portable chargers but it too is now on its last legs. We stopped at CVS and got another one . I hope it works well
-
Anyway, my friends and I had a great time at "L.A. Now and Then" Friday night! The opening number is so lively and infectious and really puts the audience in a good mood.

Happy Sunday, everyone! There's a new Broadway Radio Show up on the site for your listening pleasure. I am joined by the talented Matt Gould to chat about Witness Uganda, both the musical and the recently released cast recording. Matt and I also chat about his other new musical Lempicka, which will be playing at La Jolla Playhouse this summer. Tune in for great conversation and some wonderful music!

My friend Leonard really loved "The Black Dahlia" and "Midnight at the Roxy" and the song that mentioned the freeways. "The Whimsey Works" was a favorite of mine.
-
The performers were terrific and I was especially impressed by Jeffrey Rockwell's dialogue about being gay in the '60's. Lisa Dyson looked like someone you've seen as a sidekick in a sitcom and was great talking about the Pan-Pacific Auditorium
-
It was so great seeing BK. He had me laughing right from the start of our conversation. I hope more people find out about the show. It's great fun!

I am taking a "low" Sunday respite. Am not at church this morning.
Revival starts tonight, and I will be attending that. Four nights of a different preacher and music director.
That should clear the cobwebs I feel overtaking me.
-
Cobwebs? Or tumbleweeds?
-
Thanks for the great finds and the links, DR elmore3003!
-
I'm up, I'm up - barely - maybe six hours of sleep.
-
DR George, are you up incredibly early this morning, or still up from last night?
It was a split-shift. I nodded off, then woke up and couldn't get back to sleep at first so I posted, but needed to sleep more, so I tried to, and now I just woke up again.
-
I'm up, I'm up - barely - maybe six hours of sleep.
I think I got a total of six hours, too.

Good afternoon, all.

I love that show. I played Jacquot in a local production back in the '90s.

DR Geoge, get to bed! Is your cat keeping you up?
I did. Sadly, I don't have a cat...yet. Someday.

Hello, John.

I shall now be on my way to the theater, then to a fine dining experience.

I just noticed the time.
-
With so much sunshine today it seems earlier.
-
'night
-
The concert was successful musically, DR Jane. I don't know how much they raised for Ukraine. But the venue was full.
-
Good night, friends.
-
Back from a terrific matinee and pretty full house - at least thirty more people than the thirty I was told there'd be. They were a great audience and the talkback was REALLY fun.
-
After, I joined Robert Yacko at the Smokehouse. I brought along our stage manager and backstage gal - I had a gift certificate and that paid for everything. I had a small dinner salad, three pieces of the garlic cheese bread, and the tiny filet, along with creamed spinach.
-
Good night, all.

The concert for which I worked concessions today was quite good, too!
-
The conductor applicant, Zoe Zeniodi, is from Greece and she chose some very good music as her audition. Here's her video introduction to her concert:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yxYVXkfEDLs
-
The first was the overture to Beethoven's Fidelio, and the second piece was composed by a woman from Bulgaria, Dobrinka Tabakova (https://audienceaccess.co/bio/OSO-20613), Concerto for Cello and Strings, with cello by Nathan Chen.
-
The second act was Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade.
-
She got a deserved standing O!
-
After the concert, I decided to use one of the gift cards that I bought for myself and went to dinner at Stack 571 (https://stack571.com/).
-
I had the crispy fried chicken breast version of the Three Pepper Bomb...it was quite tasty!
-
Then I came home and now I'm watching repeats of Antiques Roadshow. :)

I'm now in the middle of a second episode of Antiques Roadshow.

I couldn’t find an Irving Berlin musical that I wanted to watch today. So, instead I watched BARNUM starring Michael Crawford. I am sure Mr. Crawford must have sung one or two Berlin songs during his career. I love BARNUM. I saw it on Broadway with Jim Dale and Glenn Close.
