Well, you've read the notes, the notes were home, and now it is time for you to post until the home cows come, well, home.
-
And the word of the day is: UPLIFT!
-
Welcome home, BK.
Doesn’t it feel wonderful?
-
I really enjoyed flying during my years as an airline employee.
-
Now, I have come to dread the experience.
I find it dispiriting and exhausting.
What BK described is pretty common, at least for me, and has been growing increasingly more miserable.
-
They took a good system, and broke it.
The last time I flew, a woman both next to me and behind me, removed their shoes and socks, and placed their bare feet on my seat rest, and the other on the actual front row bulkhead by the tv.
-
The two women, both Korean, proceeded to ravenously devour the food they had brought on board.
-
What did they bring, you may ask?
I will tell you.
-
Kimchee.
It has a foul, sulfur like smell, as it is made from fermented cabbage which releases gases back into the container.
-
The overhead vents weren’t working.
The smell was overwhelming.
Then we hit major turbulence.
-
The woman next to me couldn’t hold on to her container of kimchee.
It fell upwards, then landed all over me.
-
You can imagine how happy I was.
I would be happy to never fly again.
The End.
-
Sleep well, Bruce.
You deserve it.
-
Today is Yom Kippur, the most important Jewish holiday.
It is known as the Day of Atonement.
-
I am not very observant, in general, but I do change my usual schedule.
I think about forgiveness, and how to be a better person in the coming year.
-
I do quite a bit of soul searching, and meditation.
It’s a somber and somewhat painful process, but I feel a sense of peace when the day is over.
I intend to do that on a more regular basis.
-
Have a lovely Wednesday, everyone!
-
I enjoyed reading about the HHW dinner at Joe Allen, and loved the photo posted of the event.
-
DR John G, I enjoy reading your vacation posts.
Looks and sounds like a most relaxing, scenic, and delicious adventure.

Good morning, friends.
-
So, DR Dear Lurker Iris, what I get from your story is that my grand idea to market a new perfume, Eau de Kimchee, might not prove successful?
-
Or, perhaps, only with a very tiny market segment?
-
Glad BK is home, safe & sound. And now hope that he can rest and restore his sleep deficit.
-
And ~~~VIBES~~~ for not getting sick!!!!!!!!!
-
Ya know, Singdaw, you could package it as a duo of olfactory bliss:
Eau de Kimchee along with Eau de Limburger.
Who could resist?
-
Another possibility is Eau de Durian.
-
I have not slept at all.
Better give it a try.
Good morning and good night.
-
Up early to drive the DH to services. He has to be there from 7:00am to 8:00pm, and there is no parking.
-
Good morning, all!
-
We didn't get home from services until 11:00pm last night.
-
Page Two.
-
So I feel tired.
-
BK, what you are doing wrong is not scheduling or budgeting first class flights for yourself.
-
And welcome home in one piece!
-
I have much writing to accomplish today, so I hope my eyes hold out!
-
DR ChasSm,ith, yes, I did watch the video. I could barely hear the melody.
-
I Could Barely Hear the Melody will be the cracking title for my next memoir.
-
Good morning
-
Glad to hear BK arrived home safely!

Good morning, all.

That plane trip sounds like total HELL. As did Dear Lurker Iris’s and any others in advance that people care to describe.
-
One I will never forget was an enticingly cheap red-eye from LA to Cincinnati in the late 1970s with a stop in Dallas. The LA-Dallas leg was filled with young men on their way to boot camp, and an already tired DR ChasSmith was tortured for over three hours by the drunken screaming partying crowd. It was so unruly that, once we were in the air, the flight attendants didn't even try to control it - or, unfortunately, even to provide much service for the rest of us. It was impossible to have any quiet, let alone sleep, between, let's say, midnight to three in the a.m. I probably got a little sleep on the leg to Cincinnati, but was pretty miserable with my ears ringing the whole next day.
-
Today I must start my re-entry into Earth's atmosphere by going through my score and writing a few notes for the band. I must also choose a few things to play for a church service I'm subbing for on Sunday morning before our matinee. Fasten your seat belts, it's going to be a bumpy weekend.
-
You are right about that melody, DR Elmore.
-
We are in our (something)th day of dreary on-and-off (but more on than off) rain here. In case anyone needed to be brought up to date on the situation.
-
We are supposed to have temps in the mid 70's today with lots of sunshine. And that is fine with me.
-
Welcome home to MR BK.
Vibes for the reception of the two Important Envelopes.
-
I ate a banana - and then I read the notes and read DR IRIS LURKER's description of her flight - and now I am a bit sea sick.
-
The worst flight I ever had was one from Ohio to Baltimore......constant turbulence.
I was sitting next to a nice lady who it turns out was a nurse. She watched me for a few minutes and then handed me to sick bag.....patted my hand and said: "You'll need this in a minute....it'll be all right."
She was right on both counts.
-
Posting that memory didn't make me feel better.
-
Yesterday I opened a new bag of peanut butter sandwich cookies. The outside of the cookie had a nice raised design.....the flat side was against the filling.
Except on half of them in the bag, one of the cookies had the flat side out and the design side against the filling.
I decided it was someone's first day on the cookie machine.
-
I've never come close to needing the bag on a flight, but I am definitely prone to feeling it when riding in the back seat of a car under certain conditions. Haven't actually, er, lost anything, even then, but still. And don't let's even talk about being on a boat. Especially sailing, just forget it. I did eventually get my sea legs on an extended sailing cruise, but never again.
-
Very likely Lucy and Ethel, DR Jrand72.
-
I went to college with an outrageous campy girl named Laura, who was destined to be the stereotypical fag hag. Whenever she flew anywhere, she took ther sick bag and mailed it to someone she hated with the note "Thinking of you."
-
Good morning!

Ah DR CHAS SMITH it could have indeed have been a Ricardo & Mertz episode, I'm sure.
-
Uh oh - two Muncie city employees have been suspended after the discovery of some accounting "inconsistencies"....
-
Howdy, all.
-
It’s been a busy day of driving around the island.
-
We stopped at a honey tasting room and restaurant named Melissa, which is apparently Greek for bee. We tasted five honeys from the island. The wild strawberry honey was bitter. The others, including pine and orange blossom honey, were sweet. Thyme honey was the best.
-
Then we went to the restaurant part and had lukamades, which are like freshly fried donut holes soaked honey and topped with walnuts. Outrageous.
I had a more simple toast with plenty of butter and thyme honey. Delicious.
-
The winds were still strong, which made the beaches wonderful. One had kite surfers going crazy. I don’t have the upper body strength for that kind of stuff. And I am too old, so it was fun just to watch.
-
Lukamades
-
It’s blowin’ in the wind

-
Wonderful, DR John G.
-
Thank you for sharing your trip with us.
-
I'll bet you could windsurf. Just think of it as dancing. On a bit of a smaller area.
-
The woman next to me couldn’t hold on to her container of kimchee.
It fell upwards, then landed all over me.
I think at that moment I would have lost the contents of my stomach.
-
I am not very observant, in general, but I do change my usual schedule.
I think about forgiveness, and how to be a better person in the coming year.
The same here. Sometimes I go online and watch a bit of a service, or read my father's prayer book.
-
DR Jrand72, I really loved the video you posted on BookFace with the two birdie siblings.

Sweet. The first thing I do once I am in my seat is make sure there is a bag, then make sure it is in easy to grab spot.

The one time I went sailing I didn't get sick, or too sick. We were with my aunt and uncle and my aunt, knowing me, insisted I take a Dramamine. Keith declined and got sick.
-
Very nice pictures, John!

Fun. Sometimes there are kite surfers at our little beach here. I am sure it was much prettier to watch where you are.
-
Lukamades
Interesting as I didn't expect them to be so light. Honey & walnuts together, I would have to pass to possibly avoid a reaction.
-
It’s blowin’ in the wind
I love it :)
-
Go fly a kite
Yes, much prettier than here.
-
Ask BK: With apologies if I've asked before and am having a complete brain fart...
When did SUGAR play at the Dorothy Chandler, and who was in it? I can't seem to find anything I had on it. Also wondering about a production of WONDERFUL TOWN there at some point.
Damn. No hurry on these. Thank you!
-
DR Jrand72, I really loved the video you posted on BookFace with the two birdie siblings.
Oh, I need to go watch it.

Awww, sweet. They are both very pretty.

I'm up, I'm up - have been up several times, but I do think I got seven hours of sleep and I may try for a couple more later.

ChasSmith, Sugar was August 27 to October 19, 1974 and starred Robert Morse, Larry Kert, Gale Gordon (replacing an ill Cyril Ritchard), Leland Palmer, Steve Condos, and Virginia Martin.

Back from cashing a check - in record time, I may add - about two minutes in and out.
-
Haven't deposited yet - just waiting until after the lunch hour. Then I'll deposit and then I'm lunching with Marshall Harvey and turning over the hard drive to him.
-
It is quiet here.
-
We will be flying next month to see the grandkid, and I will be taking food on the plane to eat. I shall attempt to be quiet when eating ;)
-
I realize that what smell good to one person can be offensive to another. While not pleasant it is understandable that someone wouldn't realize their food was difficult for another passenger to tolerate.
-
Putting bare feet up on the seat is simply rude.
-
Nice pictures DR JOHN G.
-
I don't even surf the interweb in my bare feet.
-
My question for ASK BK DAY:
Did you see anything new or unusual on your walks in NYC? Or did you see any SEE-celebritees walking on the street?
-
I don't even surf the interweb in my bare feet.

DR John G. your photos are gorgeous.
The birds, the sky, the magnificent ocean…just spectacular.
Thank you for sharing with us.
-
John G. have you had kariokes and galaktoboureko in Greece?
We have a large Greek community in Baltimore and some great Greek restaurants.
-
Kariokes are delicious cookies filled with chocolate and walnuts and dipped in chocolate.
-
Galaktoboureko is made of phyllo dough pastry, and is filled with a creamy vanilla custard.
It’s good here, so I can only imagine how wonderful it is in Greece.
-
DR Jane, how nice that you’re planning a trip to see your granddaughter.
You must be very excited.
I expect you’ll be visiting when autumn is at its most beautiful.
-
I know you won’t be taking kimchee on your flight. 😁

DR Singdaw, that clock with the cat that moved its eyes was in my bedroom when I was really young.
It gave me nightmares, so it was moved to another room. 😸
-
Has anyone here listened to “Myths And Hymns” composed by Adam Guettel?
It was released in 1998 or 1999.
-
Not in a very long time. I should give that score another go.
-
One of the songs is so moving and so spiritual that I listen to it every year on Yom Kippur.
Its title is Migratory V.
Audra McDonald sings a particularly beautiful version.
-
It’s name is Migratory V.
I was just going to mention that one specifically!
-
The DH is home from the concluding service. He left at 6:45 this morning. I think he is ready to eat something.
-
I love Greek food. We some pretty great restaurants here in the Twin Cities.
-
Singdaw, I corrected the title.
I meant Migratory V.
I’m so happy that you’re a fan.
Must be very difficult to play his music.
-

Thank you. We might miss the peak, still it should be lovely. I just hope it isn't too cold yet.

My question for ASK BK DAY:
Did you see anything new or unusual on your walks in NYC? Or did you see any SEE-celebritees walking on the street?
I really didn't walk all that much. The only thing I saw that was unusual is the horror that is now Times Square. When I think back even to the late 90s, all the record stores and video stores and especially book stores and there's not a damn one of 'em left.
-
I never saw Times Square before it was a horror show. The only thing I liked about the area was the Carvel Ice Cream cone.
-
Good night, friends.
-
'night
-
Times Square is now loud, garish, unsafe, unbelievably crowded, and to be avoided at all costs.
I can’t think of anything to recommend the area.
-
There are criminals dressed as cartoon characters like Minnie Mouse, Tigger, Elmo, Cookie Monster, etc., who approach unsuspecting children to give them a hug. The families are delighted until the characters/criminals demand money and threaten them if they don’t pay. It’s totally out of control and a nightmare to navigate.
-
Most folks would tell you the old Times Square was the horror show, but it was the Times Square everyone knew. Now, it's ridiculous, with half of B'way shut down to traffic so people can sit and walk and it feels like some theme park. To me, a horror show is the non-existence of a single movie theater on Broadway, where there once were twenty or thirty or more, maybe. The loss of Virgin and Colony and the indie video stores. The ongoing raising of the Palace Theater. The random tearing down of not only old buildings but buildings that are barely two decades old. I could go on. Dear reader Iris was posting as I write this and said the other stuff. It's not a place for civilized adults anymore - it's a tourist attraction for kiddies, and most B'way musicals these days pander to that demographic, which is why you have these kiddies hooting and hollering every time a singer sings a new note - it's disruptive, disgusting, and makes me never want to attend a B'way show again.
-
Don't hold back, BK...tell us how you REALLY feel.
;)
-
Galaktoboureko is made of phyllo dough pastry, and is filled with a creamy vanilla custard.

My favorite. And it is even better here than back home.

I agree wholeheartedly.
-
I think the other thing I dislike about New York is how it’s too much like everywhere else. The stores are all chains I can find back home. It’s Barnes and Noble, Bed, Bath and Beyond, Target.
-
Times Square assaults your senses.
The billboards are huge, omnipresent, no way to tell day from night.
I forgot to finish my diatribe on the Times Square characters/criminals.
-
After they hug your child, they encourage the parents to take a photo on their iPhones.
That’s when they demand money…for the photo opportunity. I’ve seen parents burst into tears under threats of intimidation.
-
The last Broadway show that I attended was “The Band’s Visit” in April, 2019, which was very good.
I will never set foot in a Broadway theatre again, and I saw 20 shows each year.
The audiences are straight out of American Idol, as are the performers. Constant shrieking, many in mid-song. Countless standing “ovations”, also in mid-song.
-
John G, your assessment of Times Square and most of New York is spot on.
Chain stores everywhere.
Lack of charm.
Crime way up, post Covid.
-
I would rather hear about your adventures in Greece.
-
Sorry for the rant, but it’s been building up in me for a long time.
I am grateful that I had a chance to experience New York years ago.
I will always miss it.
Others will replace me, and New York will always thrive.
-
It’s blowin’ in the wind

I don’t know what you could possibly mean! Lea Michele only received seven standing ovations, mid-song on her opening night!
-
I have been watching a short series on Hulu, DAYS THAT SHAPED AMERICA. Apparently, there were only five such days in our history.
-
Last night I watched the 9/11 episode. It was really well done. Near the end I started crying when I realized I will never go to Ground Zero.
-
When I lived in New Jersey, the first thing I saw every morning, when I looked out the window of my room, was the tops of the North and South towers of the World Trade Centers.
-
Well, tonight's rehearsal went quite well...all things considered.
-
We only ran, then worked scenes from, act two, but we also wore what costumes we had.
-
There was a woman from The Chronicle (the local Centralia paper) who interviewed Miss Marple, Miss Blacklock and me!
-
We're the three lead characters.
-
She then stayed for most of the rehearsal and took a lot of pictures.
-
I don't know when it'll be published, but if the online version isn't behind a paywall, I'll post a link.
-
I will confess that I actually can barely believe that I got through as much as I did tonight without calling for lines!
-
Granted, I have fewer lines in the second act than in the first, but still...
-

TCB, your comment on Lea Michele’s reception is exactly what I meant.
She is enormously talented, but the audience is so busy applauding itself for being in attendance that you can’t hear her singing!

I was very surprised when I heard her sing, “People” on Jimmy Fallon last week. At age 36, she seems to have matured into the role.
