Well, you've read the notes, the notes were askew, askance, and akimbo, which is also the name of my accounting firm, and now it is time for you to post until the askew, askance, and akimbo cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: GARGANTUAN!
-
George, I’m pleased to hear that your rehearsals are going well.
Hope you’ll be able to post a link to your interview at The Chronicle, along with some photos.
-
Good afternoon, all.
-
TOD:
I miss the record stores most of all.
-
Good morning, friends.
-
:)
-
Good morning, all!
-
I have an Access-a-Ride trip early this morning, and I'm still not sure what I should wear outside. Shorts? Long pantys? T=shirt? Sweatshirt? Oy!
-
Yesterday afternoon was filled with much frustration , and I accomplished very, very little. By 6:00, when I finally lay down to chill out, I felt that nearly all of my morning goals had beeen shot to hell.
-
In August 1969 I made a long weekend trip to Manhattan to see Promises Promises and 1776. I remember walking down to 42nd Street and 8th Avenue around midnight, thinking let's see what's so scary about this part of town. I felt right at home.
-
I worked in the theatre district between 1979 and 1997, so I saw the beginnings pof the change in the area: tearing down the theatres for the new Marquis Hotel, the TKTS booth and its long lines before it became a stadium seating and much more comfortable, and the greadual decline of Olde New York into Mall Anywhere USA. When I left midtown in 1997 to work primarily at home, with only occasional jaunts into my old turf, the big changes occurred. I remember riding a 104 Broadway bus into midtown one night to meet friends for a show, and the old geographic landmarks I needed to tell me where I was no longer existed! I didn't know where I was and I no longer recognized the tune. In 2009, on my way to a performance of Finian's Rainbow, I took the subway to 42nd Street but I could barely walk through the mob from Broadway to 8th Avenue.
-
That's when I decided I no longer lived in the New York that I came to live in or work in.
-
With today's topic title, I am pondering the forthcoming Broadway opening of Kimberly Akimbo, a musical adaption of David Linsday-Abaire's play, with a score by Jeanine Tesori.

And starring a most overrated actress.
-
I knew that was coming! :)

Good morning, all.

Agree with the sentiments about Times Square and old NYC. The chaining and malling of the city is heartbreaking and unconscionable, and much of what made it NYC in the first place has vanished.
Sadly, the movie theaters and record and book stores we loved have largely vanished from the WORLD, not just from NYC. But certainly some exist, and it's despicable that they have been permitted ZERO presence in and around today's Times Square.
-
Here's a question: Has anyone here visited the new Drama Book Shop?
Me, not yet, guilty as charged. I don't even remember where I read that it's located. But since I've been in the city exactly twice since the pandemic, and only for two specific reasons, I guess that's my excuse for now.
-
I knew that was coming! :)
"See how hard I'm working" is not acting. It's boasting, and she'll have her PR person - could it be R.U. Femos?)v w2orking overtime to let you know.

Another excellent Access-a-Ride day! Pickup[ sche3duled at 8:29am., and at 8:17 I called to verify that. I called twicew, waited, and oth times was told they were too busy and to call back later. I called the main number, and it took seven minutes for the nice lady to check things out and tell me at 8:33 the driver would be there in 10 minutes. I locked up the apartment and moved to the lobby.. At 8:41 I called again the original broker's number I had called at 8:17, waiting while the young lady called the driver. She told me he was no longer my driver and they would send another car. Knowing I would no longer get tyo the appointment on time, I came back upstairs and called Dr. Glickman. I'm now scheduled for Oct. 26tgh,
At 8:56 the driver called and told me he was outside my building. I told him to go home and wipe his nose.
-
I must use Access=a=Ride tomorrow and Saturday. We'll see how it goes.
-
Am enjoying The Marriage Portrait, the new Maggie O’Farrell novel. It’s a highly original take on His Last Duchess.
-
I’m sitting by the pool. In the wind and sun.
-
One more.
-
Two!
-
I have ice cream only twice today.
-
Sad, I know.
-
It is a gray, gloomy day here. So, DR John G., enjoy every drop of that sunshine. And ice cream.
-
Did I mention ice cream?
-
Tip: if you're a politician going on a disaster tour, don't wear white boots. It just proves how much you're NOT doing.
ps: Nancy wore them better.
-
New score by Jeanne Tesori is an oxymoron.
-
I can't speak to the Times Square situation from here in Indiana - except to say that I agree with all that has been written here.
And the state of the theeder is dreadful and I don't think I could see a show on Broadway now the way the audiences act.
DR IRIS is so correct when she wrote that the audience applauds itself for being there....
And WOKE ain't my thing.
-
My microwave oven has a door that is being stubborn......and what should I get in my email today but a 15% off coupon from OLLIE'S.
Perhaps I shall drive over there and see what they have in that department......
-
From DR Iris:
There are criminals dressed as cartoon characters like Minnie Mouse, Tigger, Elmo, Cookie Monster, etc., who approach unsuspecting children to give them a hug. The families are delighted until the characters/criminals demand money and threaten them if they don’t pay. It’s totally out of control and a nightmare to navigate.
OMG that is terrible. Bruce did you see the cartoon characters?
-
I have ice cream only twice today.
;D I do that in Italy.
-
DR elmore3003, I wonder if this ingenious solution would solve your bed real estate problem?
-
Clairy made her own version of galaktabourico tonight. I call it galaktaClairyco.
-
It was outrageously good.
-
Now I'm hungry.
-
Well they didn't have any microwaves at Ollie's. I looked at an air fryer.....but I didn't make the purchase.
For some reason the clientele at OLLIE'S today was all OLD OLD OLD people many with canes and walkers - and women of a certain age standing blocking the already too crowded aisles.
I found a couple of books and some snacks.....but when I went to check out - there were only two lines open and the line went all the way to the back of the store.
I didn't need the books or the snacks that badly.....so I bailed.
Just so the trip wasn't a total loss, I went by the bank and cashed a check.
-
I wish I could send you something, JRand, but I ate it all.
-
I'm up, I'm up - barely. I don't know what's wrong with me but I cannot sleep. Last night, it was first tummy trouble, then allergies, even though I'd taken my Claritin-D. I may have gotten an hour or so of sleep but was mostly up until six. Then I finally fell asleep and got up at eleven. I have a phone session with Richard Allen to do fixes on the final three charts he's doing, so he can make piano guides for those songs. Of course, he's going to be gone until next Tuesday - he'll get one done, maybe two today, but the third will have to wait, which gives Sami a week to learn it, although she's had my rough vocal of it for a month.
-
Interesting story for today’s TOD:

Apparently the documentary is on YouTube.

This is a sad post.

I am not surprised.

You only ate one piece?

I'm on my dinner break: Zabar's divine chicken noodle soup. As an Honorary Jew, I'm celebrating Yom Kippur. I just need to complete this soup a few matzoh balls.

Sleeping vibes for MR BK.
And thanks for the info for my friend a few days ago! He was unable to make it.....HIS loss!
-
I am fighting like crazy to not get sick. I fear the moronic, selfish girl who was next to me on the plane had a cold and transmitted it to everyone who was nearby. I'm popping Sambucol and Airborne but not getting enough sleep is probably exacerbating the chances of getting sick. I have no time for it.
-
Did fixes for all the latest charts.
-
Stay well vibes for Bruce.
-
Bruce, what you’re going through is normal, considering how messed up your circadian rhythms are. It’s like an internal clock that regulates your sleep/wake cycles.
Your New York schedule forced you wake up at 5AM California time, some days 4:30AM, if I recall.
-
Stay well vibes for Bruce.
~~~SUPER DITTO!!~~~
-
The long flights and the 3 hour time change can be really disruptive to your system.
I think, and hope, that your sleep cycle will normalize in the next few days.
If it’s possible, try to keep your morning schedule as light as possible so that you can wake up when your system wants to, and not be interrupted by an early alarm clock.
-
I don’t know if your schedule permits that, but I suggest making it a priority.
Also, it’s better not to be looking at a computer screen after 10PM when you’re trying to go to sleep by midnight.
-
I have very little success adjusting to time zone changes when I travel, and always got sick. Now I schedule nothing on the first day, and sleep whenever the need arises, but I wasn’t working on the kind of tight schedule that Bruce was on.
-
Feel better vibes , BK.
Also, stay hydrated.
-
John G. I love that you named your cat Benjamin Stone!
Randy Rainbow has a beautiful white Persian cat with eyes that look like they’re outlined in eyeliner.
He named it Sweeney Todd, then discovered that “he” was a “she”. 😆
In other news,
-
We are on the verge of
-
Page Four.
-
And now we're on the verge of
-
Page Five.
-
But,
-
There's a little work to do first.
-
Alas,
-
A larger load than I can bear.
-
At the moment.
-
But I did make
-
A glancing effort.
-
However,
-
I do bid you all
-
Good night, friends.
-
To my shock the completely open schedule to book the new covid vaccination suddenly filled up. At least at the two Walgreens near us.
-
We wanted an appointment for two weeks away. I guess people have decided it is time to vaccinate again ;D
-
We booked appointments for a location a bit farther away but not too bad. We will just go to the Costco in that area after our vaccinations.
-
'night
-
BK, Larry mentioned Zabar’s delicious noodle soup earlier today.
Is there a place near you that delivers good chicken soup?
Worth a try.
-
Good night, HHW.
-
I imagine everyone here has already read this but
https://www.theatermania.com/s/tm-photos-production/154644.jpg
-
I got into bed at six pm, fell asleep quickly, up at 8:45, back in bed and now up an hour later. The last hour was fitful but the first three were the kind of sleep I need. So, that was very good and I'll try to be in bed soon after posting the notes, which I may, in fact, schedule.
-
Vixmom, I have read 4 reviews of the new production of 1776.
-
The critics have not been kind, so far.
-
More good sleep vibes for BK.
😴 🥱 😴
-
Good morning, all.
-
The winds are light, the sun is bright, deep in the heart of Kos.
-
Doesn’t quite have the same ring.
-
So much for that.
-
Can we get to page five?
-
Grecian push!
-
Five!
-
And I'm home.
-
Tonight's rehearsal went...not as badly as everyone thinks...at least, according to our director. :)
-
Sunday is the tech rehearsal.
-
Here's a quick and simple survey...how many of you (who've done theater of any kind) have heard the terms "paper tech" and "cue-to-cue," versus "dry tech" and "wet tech"??
-
For the theater I've done, it's been "paper tech" and "cue-to-cue," which I much prefer.
-
"Dry tech" and "wet tech" just sound wrong. :P
-
With today's topic title, I am pondering the forthcoming Broadway opening of Kimberly Akimbo, a musical adaption of David Linsday-Abaire's play, with a score by Jeanine Tesori.
And starring a most overrated actress.
Wow! Without even looking, I can tell you who that might be.
-
Well, you've read the notes, the notes were askew, askance, and akimbo, which is also the name of my accounting firm, and now it is time for you to post until the askew, askance, and akimbo cows come home.
Was that Spiro Askew?
-
He looks a little like my old kitty, Benjamin Stone.
Was he a poet? Or a lover?e
-
Just the famous Benjamin Stone.
-
The 1776 reviews were much more positive than I had expected.
-
Here's a quick and simple survey...how many of you (who've done theater of any kind) have heard the terms "paper tech" and "cue-to-cue," versus "dry tech" and "wet tech"??
I have heard both used quite often. I would say that they both are used equally well, as long as every member of the production is aware of what is meant by each.
-
When is opening night, George?
-
Almost midnight! Only about four and a half hours before sleep should arrive.
-
When is opening night, George?
A week from tomorrow! :o
-
Monday will be the first run-through with costumes and props (I only have two of each), and no stopping...unless it's a train wreck!
-
Monday will be the first run-through with costumes and props (I only have two of each), and no stopping...unless it's a train wreck!
I am sure you will be fantastic, George. I am just sorry that I probably won’t be able to see it.
-
I am sure you will be fantastic, George. I am just sorry that I probably won’t be able to see it.
Don't be. Maybe they'll film this one like they did Mamma Mia! and I can PM a link.
-
There's always hope!
-
It seems to me that the reviewers of 1776 are simply scared to be too negative. Many clearly hated it, but they're tempering their comments. That's because of the blatant statement that's in the press materials about the cast and all the gender boxes that are ticked. From what I've seen of it, I would not be tempering my comments.
-
New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
And I don't care who knows it.
-
I do hope George has some video of his performance.
