Well, you've read the notes, the notes were the King Kong of notes, and now it is time for you to post until the King Kong Cows come home.

Interesting information on Federal Holidays, DR John G. Thank you!

Good morning, all!

I have lab work for next week's physical exam this morning. Access-a-Ride is hopefully picking me up around 8:00. I have much to accomplish before I leave.

Glad you are making good progress on your book, BK.

~~~TRAVEL VIBES~~~ for DR elmore3003 this morning.
Well, I'm feeling puny. I keep having these long coughing jags, but I decided after making the bed, and losing my balance and nearly falling while doing it, that I needed to stay inside today. I canceled the AAR and sent my doctor a message about rescheduling the lab and next week's physical.
-
Sorry, DR elmore3003. Feel better soon!
-
May we help you?
-
They should hire the guy or gal that salts the fries at McDonald's to do the roads.
My back is killing me but I am going to attempt to go to work
Referring to the shredding cat mentioned yesterday...
My work here is done!
-
Is the Louise of "Sing out, Louise?" ?
-
It is Tuesday, January 3.
I find it incredible that this year is three days old when it doesn't seem like more than a day since it changed over.
-
I would stomp my foot and shout that I am NOT having it, but experience has taught me that is ineffective and ineffectual.
-
I am not attempting to go to work
-
I am now attempting to go to a chiropractor
-
It is such a gray, dreary-looking day outside.
Temperature is 55 degrees, and it will be in the 70s today.
I don't feel like wearing shorts.
-
Oh, my!
I have started my third consecutive Page 2.
-
Every day has been a new adventure in pain
-
I am not enjoying this adventure art all
-
I seek a less adventurous life
-
Starting NOW
-
Keep smiling, DR vixmom!
Is there no one who can help you manage that pain?
Starting NOW
Starting HERE!
-
DR vixmom, I am so sorry you are going through this.
-
DR Ron Pulliam started page TWO on a TUESday.
-
How fortuitous.
It's like it was meant to be.
Meant to be what, I couldn't say.
I shan't.
Following a string of beautiful days, we now have a dark dreary rainy one.
Well, at least it's not that other stuff.
Health and pain-free vibes to everyone!
-
I am afraid I have a head cold!
Have been sneezing a lot, and my sinus congestion is prolific this morning.
It's what I get for being in large crowds the past two days.
-
Nothing like a Yasujiro Ozu silent to begin the day. Today’s is I Was Born, But …
It’s a sweet flick about boys being bullied who see that the biggest bully is the son of their father’s boss. And they think the boss bullies their dad. It’s a predecessor of Ozu’s great comedy, Good Morning.
From George:
John I looked Robert Lynen. He seems to have been very brave. It is a shame he was killed.
From Bruce:
I type quickly when I'm in writing mode. I type like the wind and I think we all know how fast the wind types.
Pain doctor vibes for DR TCB!
Good luck.
I am now attempting to go to a chiropractor
That sounds like a better plan, not that a chiropractor has ever helped me.
Fingers crossed the new chiropractor helps you.
-
Colds and flu are rampant!
-
I am trying not to catch either.
-
I'm up, I'm up - six hours of sleep.
-
Good morning.
-
I think I'm just going to wear a mask until summer.
-
I've baked a snowflake bundt cake, a dozen mini bundt cakes (cupcake size), ten mini zucchini loaves, and a gluten-free chocolate bundt cake so far. At the church I'll bake four dozen chocolate chip cookies and a big mess of Party Mix. I wonder if that's enough for 40 people.
My guess is a good number of them are on diets, so it's probably enough.
-
It's getting expensive to bake. Luckily, I found eggs on sale (they were about to reach their expiration date, but eggs are good for a long time. They are only about a week over the date). Eggs are about $6 dozen now.
-
I feel like I need something more, though.
-
I used to try to accommodate everyone. But the diabetics wanted regular sugar, so I always threw the sugar-free things away. The vegans won't eat anything, so I quite bothering. Now I just make something for the gluten-free crowd; they are always appreciative.
-
That sounds like a lot of food to me, DR Laura.
-
Maybe you can distract them somehow.
-
It does. Until you set it out on the table.
-
DR Laura is the King Kong of Refreshments.
-
I used to take my own tables over. The church finally bought some tables that I can move myself. But they are bigger. So now the tables look empty.
-
Maybe you could serve a side of Alacrity.
-
Put all of the Chex Mix in many tiny little bowls and spread them all around. That will take up some table space.
-
I should probably do a vegetable tray. We got lots of cucumbers in our vegetable box. Maybe just cucumbers and carrots and dip. I really don't want to go into another store.
-
I thought of that, Singdaw. I think it's an excellent idea.
-
And maybe some little bowls of peanuts.
-
Or popcorn.
-
Guess I'll futz and finesse and see how far I get. I already laid down a sequence that's coming in a couple of pages, just the basics of it but that will be very easy to write.
I've never been to a chiropractor. A former co-worker went regularly and loved it.
-
I used to try to accommodate everyone. But the diabetics wanted regular sugar, so I always threw the sugar-free things away. The vegans won't eat anything, so I quite bothering. Now I just make something for the gluten-free crowd; they are always appreciative.
You can only do what you can do. ::)
-
Futzed and finessed quite a bit, but liked what I read. Then I wrote three new pages. Now I'll get ready to go to Marshall's abode to see the first cut of episode six. We'll finesse if there's anything to finesse, then I'll go to the mail place and see what's there, and then I'll cash a check.
-
I just threw away 11 eggs that had a use by date of December 23.....how LONG is too LONG?
-
John I looked Robert Lynen. He seems to have been very brave. It is a shame he was killed.
I will have to do that. He was an incredible child actor. To know that he died for the right cause is heartbreaking.
-
Or you go the Dr. Oz route and have crudités. Then again …
Thank you for not placating the vegans.
I think I'm just going to wear a mask until summer.
And then through fall.
I spent too much time today futzing with New Year folders and paying the first bills of 2023. I have eight bars to proofread on "One Person," which closes Act One of Dear World. I'll get to them as soon as I have my dinner/
Oh, look! It's Page Five! ;D
-
I had a blood sugar reading of 148 this morning. Not great, but manageable. I had a nut bar and two mandarin oranges for breakfast.
At the doctor’s office, mire than halfway through the stitches being removed, I told the nurse that I was feeling lightheaded and nauseous. Low blood sugar. I passed out. A juice box helped.
I’m now in carb overload at an Indian restaurant. Best biryani I have ever had. Loaded with cardamom pods and whole cloves. It’s only a small part of a slew of dishes.
I understand not wanting to eat the sugar-free stuff, but don't understand the vegans not eating something labeled vegan. Anyone will eat gluten free if it tastes good.
-
I should probably do a vegetable tray. We got lots of cucumbers in our vegetable box. Maybe just cucumbers and carrots and dip. I really don't want to go into another store.
I now I would be happy with cucumbers and carrots.
-
I can now get my thumb to close around the index finger. The doctor had to do it for me the first time.
-
I wonder if I can hold a knife.
This morning I began reading "The Escape Artist: The Man Who Broke Out of Auschwitz to Warn the World" by
Jonathan Freedland. The book begins with the first part of the escape, along with one other prisoner. I am hooked.
Do you take the reading before you eat? Does your level help you decide what to eat?
-
DR John I hope you were sitting or lying down when you passed out and didn't hurt yourself.
I am glad something good came out of your experience. Will the high carbs not cause your glucose to get too high?
Don't overdo it.
John G., congrats on getting your stitches removed!
Sorry that you fainted…I have fainted many times, usually in hot weather, and it’s quite unpleasant.
The GOP situation is hilarious. But when you consider the consequences for the county, that is tempered a bit. I am very worried about the debt ceiling limit next Fall.
I was waiting for the bus home from City Center several years ago when my blood sugar dropped. It's a terrifying situation, and Was terrified that I would pass out. Nice lady waiting for the bus saw I was in distress and gave me some candy. After that I carried a bag of cinnamon balls in my travel bag.
After I finished reading it this week, I saw that it had been turned into a miniseries (6 episodes) on EPIX.
I have watched four episodes....most excellent casting - at least one VERY NICE LOOKING gentleman.....alas no bare skin to be seen.
There are nine pages of MR BK related items up for sale on EBAY.....it's kind of like looking at the NYSE to see how valuable my goodies are......not that any of MINE are for sale!
Just finished Un Carne du Bal, the last of the Jacques Duvivier films in this set. He made it the same year he made Pepe le Moko.
Interesting premise: a newly widowed woman who married for money goes back to see what happened to all of the boys who danced with her at her first big ball. Nobody’s life has turned out as planned. One killed himself over love for her. One became a piest, another an abortionist, another a criminal.
Henry Baur and Robert Lynen were both in this and Carrottop. In reading the notes, I discovered Baur, an amazing actor, was tortured by the Gestapo, who believed he was a Jew. He died under mysterious circumstances, which many say was brought about by the Nazis.
What a load! It was very tastefully done scene. I cannot fathom that either actor suffered trauma at all.
Even so, it was 55 years ago. And it was shot in Europe, not California whose laws the lawsuit cites.
I've been using Montreal Steak Seasoning from McCormick.....I just looked it up and it contains....Paprika.
I went to check into my Humana Visa Account and found that my account has been "deactivated"......I tried to re-register - no go. I tried to get a new password....no go.
This is the first time I have had this card.....it gives me $50 a month for bananas, $100 every three months for Band-aids, and $1000 a year for a bill or two.....water & sewer is probably what I will use it for.
It's been more than four hours.....but I don't really expect a reply before tomorrow sometime.
I did not go to the pain doctor today. When I woke up, my feet were blowing up right now Goodyear blimp, or the Hindenburg. I knew I couldn’t stand up long enough to load my scooter in the trunk, so I just called and canceled. It also meant canceling lunch with my sister and brother-in-law.
-
It was my own fault. I put about a third of a can of stewed tomatoes in my cottage cheese yesterday. I know they’re full of salt, but I thought I could risk it. No such luck!
George, I still don’t understand why you didn’t get Monday off as a holiday. That makes no sense to me at all.
Did you, possibly, trade-off New Year’s Day for another holiday sometime during the year?
It could've been something like that.
The state (if I remember correctly) exchanged Columbus Day for the day after Thanksgiving, so that's why we get that four-day weekend, but I don't know why New Year's Day is the way it is.
I know some groups in the state service we’re trying to get election day back. We used to have it way back when. Now they want it back, but they can’t figure out what to give up for it.
-
Scraps for the Minister - that's the title of my new novel.
-
Where in tarnation IS everyone?
-
Just sitting there like so much fish?
-
Page ten has been waiting in the wings and is growing weary.
-
As have I.
-
Not sure we'll get there with no help.
-
No help will not get us there.
-
Help will get us there.
-
But there doesn't seem to be any help.
-
Not very helpful, no help.
-
Help is always helpful
-
That's an old adage.
-
I, myself, am an old adage.
-
I wonder if BK that fell asleep on the couch?
-
Look how there's no help.
-
George has left the room and gone down some rabbit hole, but TCB is still here.
-
Everyone watch the BBC Sondheim thing? I can't say the first ten minutes is any good, but hopefully it gets better.
-
Maybe The Beatles can Help.
-
But they're having a hard day's night on their magical mystery tour with Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.
-
I don't know, call me crazy, but page ten should be around here somewhere.
-
Somewhere over the rainbow.
-
There's a place for us, somewhere.
-
Did you, possibly, trade-off New Year’s Day for another holiday sometime during the year?
It could've been something like that.
We actually do get New Year's Day off, but I think they just may have changed the way we deal with it when it's on a day when buildings are closed.
-
Instead of taking the Monday off (which could be benefit some buildings and not others), they could've just negotiated that if NYD falls on a day that YOUR building is closed, those affected employees can either add the time to their vacation balance or get paid for it.
-
At last, page ten has made its errant and truant entrance. Better late than never say i.
-
George came out of the rabbit hole whole.
-
And in the damn nick of time.
-
George has left the room and gone down some rabbit hole, but TCB is still here.
No, I was typing.
-
Typing.
-
New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
I've read them.
-
I've seen them.
-
And they're up.
