Well, you've read the notes, the notes marched into March and spoke of a new book, and now it is time for you to post until the March cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: REJUVENATE!
-
Notes consumed, ratified.

Ditto!
-
And love the cover, BK! Can't wait to read it!
-
I am very intrigued about the new book. The cover is a lovely callback to the first Benjamin Kritzer novel and its marquee. I love that it presents a milieu I know little about, the culture of previews and preview-people being less common outside of the industry towns. Yes, I am on board for this.
-
A Question for BK: since, as Marc Wanamaker wrote in his blurb, the novel is "Told in Preview Harvey’s own words that he’s recorded on a series of audio cassettes," will there be an audiobook version? That would be cool.
-
I'm thinking about an audio book - would have to find the perfect actor and I know who I think that would be vocally, but we'll see what happens.
-
So, I got the message that I needed to restart my computer to fix things, and this is the screen I'm on. I've never seen this before! :-\
-
It's doing stuff, so hopefully, it's either checking or actually fixing things.
-
It's finally finished with all that, and I was able to sign into my computer. Whew!
-
Took a while, but I finally was able to date the photo on the cover as Tuesday January 18, 1966. Amazing, huh? And that very preview does feature in the book.
-
I am now posting from my computer and all is right with the world. :)

That's less than four months before I was born.

Good morning, friends.

Listening to Lucijan Skerjanc's "Intermezzo Romantique" for violin and piano, which seems to be the only thing by him in iTunes. I'll check out YouTube.
-
Very excited about the new book and the concept of it. I love the cover!
-
Oh! I like the cover very much, hearkens back to the Benjamin Kritzer novels.
I am looking forward to reading this

DR vixmom, do you have any aardvark jokes?

Good morning, all!

It was not a good night of sleep. I was up too many times,

I have a busy morning: Amazon Fresh delivery, schedule tomorrow's Access-a-Ride, and finish my tango arrangement.

And I have to address Doug's notes about No. 2 in the ballet.

That's the title of my next memoir: Number Two in the Ballet (I was the runner-up).

A daring tale of hijinks en pointe.

It's arch like an arched foot.

Good morning, all.

The book jacket looks great, BK.

And the blurb is perfect.

DR vixmom, do you have any aardvark jokes?
Hmmmmm, I’ll have to think about that

Amazon Fresh is out for delivery. This generally means it will arrive anytime now from 15 minutes to 90! I hate the wait.

Good morning, all.

I am attempting to post on this phone using my thumbs instead of holding the phone in my left hand and pecking out the words with my right. You know. The way “everyone else” does. Or at least the Young People.
-
That took about five minutes to get right. :)
-
It’s not just the kids, some adults seem to manage it, too. It’s just something that’s been bugging me, so I’m trying. Probably best not to be seen trying it in public yet. I’m definitely not ready for prime time.
-
Okay, enough. Back later when I’m on the computer.
-
Ah, that's better. Much better.
-
You know what I find to actually be MORE awkward than thumb-typing on a phone?
Holding the phone and scrolling/navigating all over the damned place, between apps and everything, all in one hand. Maybe it's the size of the phone. I have one of the larger iPhones, and its protective case makes it even larger. Must observe more people and the size of the phone they're using.
-
Okay, truly, enough of that.
-
Definitely gratifying to see the Village Theater on the book jacket.
-
Speaking of which, this can now be an Ask BK:
BK, did you see my post #78 yesterday with the pic taken in Westwood? I was posting it while you were having internet problems. I didn't ask you specifically, but if you can shed any light on the things I was wondering about, that would be great.
-
I so wish I had a "film diary" and had kept track of every movie I saw, and where... like the one BK has stored in his mind!
-
So what is in store on this bright sunny day?
I need to get started on some laundry. I want to change the bed, and there's a load of clothes waiting to be washed.
But I don't have to go out anywhere today, which is good. So it'll be laundry, a little straightening up, and some piano practice.
-
Good morning!
-
Looking forward to reading your new book, BK. Nice cover!

I cannot shake the feeling that this is a Monday.
Yesterday - a snow day - had the two housemates at home, and it felt like a Saturday throughout the morning and afternoon. Then it felt like a Sunday evening. Today? Monday all the way, baby.
I've got to get myself back in sync by tomorrow so I don't forget to go places and do things.
-
I just read an Op-Ed column entitled "Matty Gaetz and the Performative Art of Dumbf**kery."
Yes.
-
From Singdaw:
The Zoom was with Daniel, the recipient of one of our first puppies that we raised for Guiding Eyes for the Blind.
It was a wonderful reunion. His current guide dog is named Boon - a black lab.
That is very nice. I am interested in how you became friends.
I used to babysit my friend's puppies that went on to become seeing eye dogs, all except one that failed.

We are supposed to get rain today. I hope so. That will really benefit the wildflowers this year.

But then, it probably means that the desert will burn starting in May.

I'm up, I'm up - eight hours of sleep.

ChasSmith, re Bel Air - I'm pretty sure the camera shop in your photo isn't Bel-Air - I think they were always in one location. Of course, around a month after this photo was taken we'd be previewing Nudie Musical at the Regent, sold out, and resulting in Paramount buying the movie.
-
Jrand, no Margie - her husband occasionally called her Margo, but not me.
-
AH......I thought maybe they would because of her father's tv show.

I know. If only I'd been walking through there snapping pictures when Nudie was there.
-
Yeah, that sign would surely have included their name if it had been them, and I think you're right. It was only on Westwood. But at some point there was a change -- maybe they downsized, or completely redesigned the interior of the store -- because I have two distinct memories of how it was laid out inside.

DR Jane - that was the first guide dog we "raised." We attended the graduation, met our dog's person, and just stayed in touch over the years, even after our dog retired.

I know my friend went to, at least the first graduation. I don't remember her meeting the person that took the dog. I loved the dog. If she hadn't passed we would have been a four dog family as there was no way I was letting anyone else have her. That is if my friend didn't take her. She too was a black lab.

I like that dance DR LAURA.

The new Camelot sounds boring. And I really dislike the slow pace of Lusty Month of May. Too introspective. No fun.

Back from cashing a check and the news that Union Bank has now been bought by US Bank and no longer cashes using that giant ATM they have - very irritating. But there was no one in the bank, so I just had the teller do it, which takes five minutes longer than the machine. Eventually, I think I'm going to make an account there, then it will be easy, but I'm concerned that the merger or whatever it was will cause more people to come to that branch.
-
Then I went to Marshall's, we watched the trailer/sizzle reel thing, I think we only added one little sound effect to make one shot land better, and now he just has to wait until Doug sends him the cast cards in color and two little cards that we need, one at the top, one at the end.
-
Then I went to the nearby branch of my bank and deposited the cash. First time no one in there at all, so that was nice.

You visited me at Union Bank when I worked at the Wilshire/Beverly Drive office.

Then I moved to the office on Wilshire and Western. I was able to meet my Dad for lunch when I worked at that office.

When Keith started working at Caltech I transferred to the Pasadena office so we could drive to work together.

Well, guess who tipped her hand today on the film score message board. There's a thread about The Faculty there and I've been making a few posts, since I know a little bit about that film. And today there were two snarky responses and you know how hard it is to disguise a writing style, well, a light bulb went off, so I checked all the other times this person has posted since joining the board in 2019. First, a few innocuous postings in random thread, so it looks like a normal poster. But soon enough, the snarky responses to me begin - frankly, I didn't even notice them and missed several entirely. But today there was no mistaking our little obnoxious, obsessed stalker lady and without making a deal out of it responded and said I knew the deal and "want to continue this?"
Of course, I then went to the nice man who moderates the board and who has removed her countless times, only to have reappear under yet another name, and let him know she was back. Oops. If you're reading this, Barbara, and we know you are, congrats - you lasted four years this time before becoming obvious. What do we think about someone who has been doing this malarkey now for fifteen YEARS? I'd say maybe a visit to a therapist would be a good idea at this point, but no, it will just continue and continue and continue.

A frog goes into a bank and approaches the desk officer
-
He can see by her nameplate that her name is Ms. Whack
-
The frog says ,”Ms. Whack, I’d like a loan of $30,000 to go on holiday”
-
Patty looks at the frog in disbelief and asks his name. The frog says his name is Kermit Jagger, his dad is Mick Jagger, and that it's okay, he knows the bank manager.
-
Patty explains that he will need to secure the loan with some collateral.
-
The frog says, "Sure. I have this," and produces a tiny porcelain elephant, about an inch tall, bright pink, and perfectly formed.
-
House-blend coffee over Dreamsicle.
The top half is plenty for me.
Plenty and excess do not go together.
-
Very confused, she explains that she'll have to consult with the bank manager and disappears into a back office.
-
Mr. Jones?
Yes Patty?
-
"There's a frog called Kermit Jagger out there who claims to know you and wants to borrow $30,000, and he wants to use this as collateral." She holds up the tiny pink elephant. "I mean, what in the world is this?"
-
We’re waiting, Vixmom.
-
The bank manager looks back at her and says, "It's a knickknack, Patty Whack. Give the frog a loan. His old man's a Rolling Stone."

Just not having the normal freedom of being in our house without other people. And the contractor is cool, he’s a neighbor, doing fine work. Crew also cool. But I just can’t wait till this sort of thing is done.

It was supposed to take two months, but it took FOUR! :o

Fortunately, they were able to live with relatives and didn't have to pay rent on top of their mortgage and it came in at the estimated cost, but still, it took twice as long. Hopefully, yours won't, Rodzinski!

Hi, WFO!
-
Today was a lovely day. For the first time in awhile we went for an afternoon walk.

Fortunately, they were able to live with relatives and didn't have to pay rent on top of their mortgage and it came in at the estimated cost, but still, it took twice as long. Hopefully, yours won't, Rodzinski!
Seem to be moving fast so far. Re-floored two rooms in two days. But maybe it’s a trick!

Look what arrived today from Etsy (https://www.etsy.com/)!

Who is this trollish Barbara and what is the bee in her bonnet?

It's a print of an original watercolor on thick card stock and looks really nice!

That's lovely, DR George.
-
I'm stumped by your clews, DR Rodzinski. But I will look forward to the Big Reveal.
-
The Great Unveiling.
-
The Big Kahuna.
-
The Full Enchilada.
-
The Stuffed Taco.
-
I'm hungry all of the sudden.
-
But I'm a few sandwiches short of a picnic.
-
On page seven.
-
I'm not gonna make to to ten.
-
I can tell you that right now.
-
We need a frenzy or three.
-
Clever artwork, DR George!
Thanks, Rodzinski! It is. :)
-
Or a long monologue.
-
At least the dishes are done.
-
So when I conk out, there's not much left to do.
-
Look what arrived today from Etsy (https://www.etsy.com/)!

Thanks, Jane! I think I will. I can get a nice (but inexpensive) frame at Michael's, or I think even Fred Meyer.
-
Tonight, I listened to the original cast album of Newsies, which I don't think I had ever listened to all the way through.
-
It was pleasant enough.
-
That's lovely, DR George.
Thanks, Singdaw!

The songs that I know, I know from Debbie Gravitte's Menken album. Which I love.

We need a frenzy or three.
I blame BK! :D

At least the dishes are done.
“Dishes are done, dude.”

Wow. A classic with which I am unfamiliar.

It is funny, or scary?

The songs that I know, I know from Debbie Gravitte's Menken album. Which I love.
That original (movie) version of "Santa Fe" is a much better version of the song. I don't care for the show version.

What is the state of our sink, DR George?
-
Thanks for that tip, DR George. I'll check it out.
-
What is the state of our sink, DR George?
Much more important than the state of our union!
-
It is funny, or scary?
‘80s dark comedy for teens. I’ve never actually seen it.
-
I almost typed onion.
-
The steak of our onion.
-
What is the state of our sink, DR George?
No leak! :) It looks like the retightening worked!
-
I think I have a small plastic tub under most of the sink drains, just in case.
-
That is good news, DR George.
-
No leaks.
-
No leeks, either.
-
EIGHT!
-
What is the state of our sink, DR George?
Much more important than the state of our union!
Or the state of the water supply. ;)
-
EIGHT!
Wow! Who knew??
-
I have a joke that could be broken up to take up a whole page.
-
But it is in pretty questionable taste,
-
That is good news, DR George.
Thanks, Singdaw! I agree!
-
So I'm not going to subject the Hainsies and Kimlets to that.
-
But it is in pretty questionable taste,
And the problem is...??
-
;D
-
I think I'm pretty well done for.
-
For today.
-
Good night, friends.

Hmmmmmm, I was sure I had it that time!
-
Rodzinski , Are you in Alaska ?
-
About to do a quick Ralph's run for more soda pop and some waters.
-
Laura
Indeed.
-
Look what arrived today from Etsy (https://www.etsy.com/)!
Nice.

Rodzinski, the stalker used to be on our board for a bit, but at some point on the film score board, I said something that rankled her and she apparently snapped and has been doing her crap ever since. I threw her off this board but she's been back a couple of times under other names but always reveals herself in the end and then we nuke her again. She's followed me around to many other boards, has created a plethora of usernames, and done this same idiocy. It never stops with her. Most recently, she's "reviewed" two or three books on Amazon leaving poor and endless reviews that are clearly written by the same person but under different usernames. That's been her latest fun but there's no mistaking it. She's also done it on Goodreads, almost word for word but under yet another name. After seventeen years of this we can safely assume there is something wrong with her. She could have just gone about her business long ago, forgotten all about me, and probably been much happier. But no, not our Barbara.
-
What does an aardvark order on their pizza?
-
Ant chovies
-
I'm sure she's on other boards still doing her thing - and I'm suspicious of pretty much anyone who responds to me negatively multiple times in the same way. Anyway, they just threw her off the film score board but she'll be back after a while under a new name.
-
I am getting tired
-
Why I oughta...
-
My guess is Alaska as well. I thought he said he lived in the west.
-
The iPad is on 4%
-
Page ten is pretty damn good.
-
We’re on page ten
-
Guess I’ll go to bed
-
I hope TCB is ok
-
Vixmom, it's a shame you don't celebrate St. Lawrence Day. Telling bad jokes is one of the traditions.
-
The other tradition is eating hash browns.
-
My guess is Alaska as well. I thought he said he lived in the west.
Well he was in NYC so as far as I’m concerned, just about the whole US is west of here
-
Vixmom, it's a shame you don't celebrate St. Lawrence Day. Telling bad jokes is one of the traditions.
“Bad” jokes?! Hmmmph! These are the finest aardvark jokes known to man!
-
Or indeed to Mann
-
Rodzinski , Are you in Alaska ?
Thousands of miles away!
-
The other tradition is eating hash browns.
I can certainly do that!
-
While telling excellent aardvark jokes
-
Rodzinski , Are you in Alaska ?
Thousands of miles away!
Thousands?! Goodness!
-
This may be a grand day of posting page counts.
-
Barbara sounds quite barbarous.
-
Northern Mariana Islands?
-
Guam?
-
American Samoa?
-
We’re early to 300
-
Getting closer all the time
-
Where , I wonder, is George
-
Where, I ponder, is BK?
-
Look what arrived today from Etsy (https://www.etsy.com/)!
Nice.
Thanks, John!
-
I am sinking into sleep
-
My iPad is sinking into dead battery land
-
But we are soooooo close
-
Nearly there
-
300!!
-
Page 11
-
Good night
-
Where , I wonder, is George
I was reading and looking at the pictures of this article:
40 Of The Coolest Building Conversions (https://www.boredpanda.com/repurposed-converted-buildings/)
-
300!!
Hoo and Ray!
-
Good night, Vixmom.
-
So, a couple of weeks ago, I received from eBay an original window card from the original Broadway production of Big River.
-
Today, I remembered that I had some poster frames and in amongst them was a cardboard mailer with a couple of other Broadway window cards that I had forgotten that I had!
-
One was for the original Broadway production of Pacific Overtures:
-
And the other was for the original Broadway production of Amadeus:
-
AND that was is autographed by BOTH Ian McKellen AND Tim Curry!
-
You can kind of see in the first Amadeus picture that there's a big crease in the poster, but things like that don't bother me.
-
I don't buy these as investments. :)
-
Billy Porter is coming to the theater where I usher. I hope I get that.
-
Started Spoiler Alert. Liking it so far.
-
Billy Porter is coming to the theater where I usher. I hope I get that.
That's really cool! Hope you get it, too!
-
Where is DR RODZINSKI?
A HHW mystery.
-
Well Saturn has been in Aquarius since March 7, 2020 - on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, it moves into Pisces.....so things should be much nicer for everyone......
If such things are to be believed.....
-
Maybe he is in the U.S. Virgin Islands - or was that already guessed?
-
If you rearrange the letters of Rodzinski you get Skrod Zini, which means he’s not in Dubuque. Maybe it’s pointing to Argentina. What’s new, Buenos Aires?
-
Good night, all.
-
Skrod Zini here.
-
Things have slowed since that arrival at page 11.
-
It was so promising, now… slowed to a crawl.
-
Yet we are not too far from 12.
-
Perhaps just a post or two.
-
Maybe TCB will show up. Maybe George won't go down rabbit holes.
-
I must write some notes.
-
Could be just the thing to take us out of 11 to the land beyond.
-
But I'll check back.
-
But I sense page twelve is near.
-
TCB, we miss your late night presence!
-
I sensed right.
-
The Dirty Dozen of pages.
-
BK, what is your fondest memory of working on the film “Racquet”?
-
Meeting photographer Kathy Amerman. Having some fun conversations with Bert Convy. A horrible movie, but they paid me a LOT of money. :)
-
See what I mean? George disappears completely down some rabbit hole, TCB is a no-show and continues to worry people who care about him, so we hope he's fine, and we've had two postings since I went off to write the notes.
-
See what I mean?
-
Mean what I see?
-
Page twelve is damn good. If George hadn't gone off down some rabbit hole we could have even made page thirteen.
-
That's how it is.
-
Nothing to be done about it.
-
Can't fight it.
-
No way to fight it.
-
And here we sit.
-
Liza is singing away.
-
And new notes will be up shortly.
-
Someone posted in the Manhattan Transfer Facebook group the link to a documentary about Annie Ross of Lambert, Hendricks and Ross:
Annie Ross - No One But Me (BBC Documentary 2012) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5JHW1Di3W4Q)
-
Unbelievable.
-
Shocking.
-
Oh, look who's back.
-
I had no idea that Annie Ross was the girl in the Little Rascals/Our Gang (I forget which) comedies that sang "You Take the High Road and I'll Take the Low Road!" Here's the link to that specific spot:

This link is for the entire short:

-
New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
I've seen them.
-
I've read them.
-
I wrote them.
-
And I don't care who knows it.
-
Well, since we're so close...
-
